Here's what the best i can make out of what the setlist was with the little amount of energy left in me. I am quite sure i have included all the songs, but the order will be disfunctional for the most part and i hope someone will correct it later:

(now this is when trent invited saul williams on stage)

(then, trent went back to nin songs, and saul got off stage)

The show was amazing, because of the purpose it felt so real and wonderful, and the energy in the crowd was amazing. I had to try real hard to stay on my feet. Trent said "Glad to be home", somewhere in the show, which was quite touching to me, since i call New Orleans home as well. Saul talked about the hurricane, how the goverment's response was shitty, how there was racism and ignorance involved, and I was really impressed that he cared so much about the cause and was willing to show up at a moment's notice. He and Trent were great live together. Such a great performance, so much energy, I feel so happy to be part of it. I am looking forward to the correction of my setlist so i can remember how it went exactly. Anyway, i'm tired, so i'm gonna go rest my eyes. I might post tomorrow if remember anything fun. Night.

More about NIN in New Orleans (10/29/05)
(At about 4, while The Bravery was on, Trent was backstage checking out the band, so i got to see him before he was dripping in sweat)
NIN came on an hour late (at 7:30) because of the delays of the previous shows, and because they had to set all the spiffy lights up. Trent and "the gang" jumped on stage and started with Head Like A Hole. The whole idea of the projection screen and the setlist that has been played for the past couple of months was abandoned (I'm guessing because of the limited time, the special guest, and the occasion), so that's why the setlist differed. Even though the show was shorter, it really felt like several punches straight to the face, in a good way of course. My favourite parts of the first set of NIN songs, would have to be Terrible Lie and Right Where It Belongs (which strangely was played all it's lonesome without BYIT). When Saul came on, Trent sang along with him on "African Student Movement" and "List Of Demands". List Of Demands made me jump just as much as Gave Up, because the whole band would come in for the chorus, and it rocked very much so. After Saul talked about the hurricane, Wish was definitely more powerful than it ever was for me, just because i associated alot more meaning with it (and i'm assuming Trent did too, which probably made it better). I didn't even recognize Only at first, but then when i heard it, it was incredibly groovy and even better than the album version (As was every song in the show except The Frail/The Wretched). During hurt, the piano sounded different. (Has anyone heard any difference in hurt live lately?). Overall, i believe it was a concise, meaningful show, that served its many purposes: to lift the spirits of those that have been affected, appreciate those who helped, condemn the pigs that ruined people's lives, and raise money for the cause. Thanks Trent, for a wonderful and memorable show!

So, I was able to volunteer and get a sweet press pass to hang around my neck for the event. The publicity staff were really nice. I was able to meet Saul Williams, a very cool guy, before the show who was just hanging out in the crowd during Queens of the Stone Age. I saw TR and the guys backstage, but didn't talk with anyone. I was too busy looking with a silly grin on my face.
Maynard was there. There were rumors that he was going to perform with NIN, but I never saw it happen. I left right after Hurt so I didn't see if they played an encore. I'm thinking they did not since no one else has mentioned it.
The set list looks good to me. I was standing right next to the sound stage during the show. I saw the "video guy" (I don't know his name?) filming various parts of the show, he definitely caught both of Saul Williams performances so hopefully the rest of you will get to see what was a truly powerful performance.
I can't remember the song, but at one point during the show Trent threw his mic stand behind him. I experienced a sense of deja vu. During his club tour in support of TDS I saw him throw his keyboard and hit his drummer, knocking the guy out during his performance. He just barely missed Alex when he threw this mic stand. I have to say, that I wasn't sure what to expect from Alex. I know some of the reviews have not been glowing so far this tour. I think he did a great job, especially during that last part of Hurt. You could really see him feeling the music and making sure that the beats fell in time. He's a tall guy, so he wasn't hidden behind his drum set as some drummers often are.

I just have to share this: I was backstage in the artist area. My supervisor had just stepped into one of four portolets(sp?). She wasn't in there two seconds before the one next to her's opened and a girl came out...quickly followed by a guy! I was just staring, trying to decide if I should laugh or puke. He was very happy and told me, "it's my birthday", gathered me into a spontaneous hug and planted an enthusiastic kiss on my cheek. When my supervisor came out I told her what had happened. She didn't believe me at first, but I told her I couldn't make that up. I guess that's just part of the rock and roll experience for some folks.

Despite the shortened setlist this was a great performance all around. I had a great spot right up front and center. The most notable performances were the 2 saul williams songs and only. Nin opened up strong with hlah and got a great response from the crowd (I had a ringing sound in my ears after hlah due to the audiences shouting). I was really pleased with terrible lie too, they reworked it in a really creative way that incorparated alot more guitar and bass which made it really punchy. Aaron, of course, was all over the place the majority of the time but I don't think he ever smashed a guitar (mic stands took most of the beating). Alex's drumming was also really impressive; I'm a big jerome fan and was originally upset that he quit the band but I think alex is a really strong drummer who fits in well with the nin live band. As far as dissapointments go, I think they couldve had a longer and better setlist with more less known material (and with teeth songs like beside you in time, atlinw, and the collector). I'm also not a big fan of the frail/wretched and wished they would've dropped that as well but they definetly played the song well, it's just not my taste. On a positive note, the saul williams songs were absolutely spectacular, I really hope these performances get posted on either nin's myspace or webpage. In short it was worth the $500 I payed for plane tickets since I've been in austin since katrina and wont be returning home until december.

I was a little surprised at how much NIN has turned into a rock and roll band. Trent seems to have lost a lot of the angsty goth prancing that he used to favor in tours during the 80s & 90s. Maybe it's age, maybe it's the guitar he now has around his neck, but I liked the change.

I thought it was great he played his hits. Playing at Voodoofest to people who may have only shown up because it was free entertainment---it was a good choice. Saul Williams was okay, he tried to make a political statement about Katrina response that I felt was inappropriate, but his songs were fine. And he got Trent to scream "where my niggas at?" in the chorus of one of his songs. That was hilarious.

Other notes: Hated the mosh pit that kept breaking out next to me, as did about 95% of the folks in the area. There were a lot of old people in the audience that just don't have the patience for that kind of crap anymore. Still not feeling it with the new guys, not an ounce of charisma in any of them. I miss the days of Robin & Chris.

I found the mosh entertaining. I'd have rather moved around some way then stand there like an idiot watched Trent play like I was watching it on TV or something. There were too many people in the crowd who weren't into moving/dancing/moshing for my taste. And nobody really likes old people anyway.

I have no clue what you're talking about. Every NIN show ive been to this year, the band has had a ton of energy. They've won me over every time.

I couldn't have asked for a better birthday weekend.

I was up front, on the rail, right in front of Aaron. I sang along with every song, and moved around constantly. From now on, I will never see a NIN show unless I can be on the floor, going wild. The crowd was relatively small compared with previous years' crowds, the weather was nice, and it was an all-around great experience. Surprisingly, moshing didn't start until Saul Williams got up and did his thing. Trent saying "Where my niggas at?" was pretty priceless.

I probably annoyed everyone around me by going nuts, but at least I stayed in my own personal space and didn't touch anyone. I rememberd something else. I saw this guy in the crowd who had a nail, nine inches long, stuck through the top of his cowboy hat. I appreciated the subtlety.

man definetly the best setlist ever!!!!! (the only thing i couldve asked for woulda been a limp bizkit cover but hell it was still funky fresh). the highlights were definetly love sweet love, deep, the beautiful people (LOLZ who lwoulda thought manson was gonna show up?!?!?!), the johnny cash cover, and safety dance. During safety dance trent shaved his back using a beer bottle it was fantastic. He also played MY SONG (the “fuck you like an animal” song) and looked directly at me the entire time For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen LOLZ!!!!!!! However after safety dance trent threw a bunch of beer bottles (empty ones) at alex and they had to take him to the hospital (not to mention he was going into mad seizures from all the cocaine they did) and had to be taken off the stage. JOSH FREESE was luckily on call and managed to bust out his mad grooves for screaming slave, jerome dillons obituary (which involves a phat beat) and the beauty of being numb. oh and i almost forgot to mention barry manilow, he is one crazy son of a bitch (he punched out aaron north 5 times!!!!!). My only regret might be taking 5 hits of acid before the show (cuz i think it woulda really rocked even sober) but the lights sure were cool.

Yeah, man, that show was awesome. My favourite part was the duet Trent did with Barry. THAT WAS AMAZING!! I was the guy with the colourful fanny pack and the Option 30 shirt. I really liked I Wanna Fuck You Like An Animal, too. To me, that is definitely the best NiN song. Wasn't it weird though when Manson came on not wearing any makeup? It was even weirder when he said that he was now a devout Christian and that he and Pat Robertson were totally buddies now. WTFOMGBBQLOLZ!! I really wished that that tall guy didn't move right in front of me during Jerome's funeral. I was really grooving out to those tunes. Anyway, Trent I love you YOU ARE GODD!!!LOLZ!!
(P.S. I'd like to send a wurd out to all my g's on Camp St. Hey Clayface, where's my D, yo!?!?!)
