I guess I'm the first to reply with something of relevance. One word. INCREDIBLE. I regret to say though that I honestly felt sorry for Trent tonight. He put on the most incredible show I have ever seen (this being my second NIN show ever) and when observed the audience around me, people were just standing there, having cared less. Quite frustrating to say the least--especially for Trent. He put everything he had into tonights show, and noone seemed to really give a fuck. Oh well. Incredible show Trent. See you in Nashville tomorrow night.

The crowd was absolutely horrible, but not just for NIN. Hell, I saw a better crowd response at Coachella than at Memphis.

I just got home after a short, two hour drive back from Memphis. The setlist was the same as New Orleans, I believe, but I'll post it anyways.

Words cannot express my gratitude for not only NIN, but the entire lineup of the Memphis date for showing their dedication and time to such a needed cause. It's definitely an occassion I will remember.

I'll post a more thorough review tomorrow after a good night's sleep, but let me just say that Saul Williams performance with NIN was absolutely amazing. Too bad most of the crowd wasn't familiar with the artist or his reportoire. As a fan of both artists, I would love for them to release the performance as a downloadable single--possibly iTunes--with all the proceeds going to NORF. That is, if there is an audio recording of their performance. A fan can dream!

First time to see NIN and they blew me away. i'd have to agree with orestes that the crowd was terrible. I felt like i was one of the only people excited to be there. The Saul Williams part was incredible. However, there was a racist moron behind me that wouldn't stop shouting insults at him. Thats fucking Memphis for you. I would love to see Nails again and preferably in a better crowd. Also, Queens of the Stoneage was awesome and alone would have been worth my ticket.

The show was absolutely amazing. I was in the front row, dead center, right in front of Trent. I had a blazer on that read "TRENT REZNOR SAVED MY LIFE". I can't say how the crowd was but i had a feeling that it sucked ass. I was terribly excited the whole night. Rob Sheridan walked by and i screamed "HI ROB!!" with much enthusiasm and he did the same... like he knew me, which I thought was funny as hell and very kind of him that he actually acknowledged me! Probably one of the best moments of my life!! And when Saul Williams came out I was screaming "I love you Saul!!" and the people around me just looked confused. I was also the only one who screamed when he said they were gonna play "List of Demands (Reparations)". And I sang all the words too, and I think I was the only one. Another great highlight was seeing Trent doing backup vocals to "African Student Movement" and him sing "where my niggas at?" I will never forget that. Overall it was a beautiful experience. I can't thank Trent enough for coming. He was pretty vocal and started talking about how devastating it is in New Orleans and thanked all the bands that came to support the cause. I am flying out wednesday night to go to NYC in Madison Square Garden and I think the set will be better, and hopefully the crowd.

Oh, and I was at the festival as well. I have a rather interesting tale to tell but I'll post that when I have more time to type it out.

Hey, I saw you with the custom jacket on during Cowboy Mouth's performance. I'm surprised you keep your earrings on throughout NIN's performance. I was a few heads to the left of you, wearing a Tubeway Army tee.

I have to admit, if it wasn't for the lackluster crowd, I might have enjoyed the concert better. When the band just walked onstage and kicked into "Head Like a Hole", hardly anyone near the stage was moving. I was on the front, dead center, and I was taken back by the lack of movement from the audience. However, once the band went into "Terrible Lie", a pattern quickly emerged: the audience only responded to the "hits" shall we say, and their response was to violently sway to and fro. I didn't see any moshing whatsoever, just a sudden push from time to time and the occasional crowd surfer. Towards the end of the show, the situation had become ridiculous. I was literally standing to my side during THTF because there was so much crowd movement. And for fuck's sake, why do grown men feel the need to make an ass of themselves during "Hurt"?![/rant]

I still can't get over the rare treat of seeing Saul and NIN perform! I've been listening to "African Student Movement" and "List of Demands" repeatedly this afternoon. Yakoo, I have to agree with you on the audience's response to Saul Williams. There were a few cries from the audience when Trent announced him, but other than that, nothing. I had my fist up in the air, madly singing along to "List of Demands"; partly out of exhilaration but also as a sign of appreciation. *sigh*

Trent was relegated to bass for "African Student Movement" while Alessandro had a small drum set up. I'm not sure what kind but it was smaller than a snare drum. And even though the audience seemed to have cared less, Saul was all over the stage, griped microphone in hand. He was absolutely mesmerizing to watch.

All in all, NIN's performance had a rater somber mood to their performance, which I'm sure was the purpose with such a specific setlist. Still, it was nice of Trent to address the crowd about his previous days in Nola, and about how important it is to continue aid and support for such a great city. I went to Voodoo not to just see NIN, but also to show my support as well.

Orestes, I didn't know you were there. Ah, well. I was in the very back on the barracades so my short self could see. I was probably one of the people you heard yell when Saul came out. I saw him for the first time in NOLA the night before and was so blown away by him. I couldn't stop telling my sister about how great his performance was. I was so excited to see him again that I was yelling my head off in the back.

I agree with the general consensus that the crowd wasn't very energetic, but it really didn't bother me. I have my own little concert bubble that I get into. I still think NIN performance was spectacular and I was loving every moment of it. We had our own little rocking out section on the barracades. I'm surprised we didn't topple them over.

Something that was different about this show versus the NOLA performance was the amount of set that they brought along. I would say that the NOLA performance probably had most if not all of the tour set up. The Memphis show only had the bottom row of back verticals. It did not have any of the staggered vertical rigs. There were only about 3 or 4 rows of PAR cans above the stage and a minimal wiggle lights (for a rock show, anyway). I think the light tech did a great job adapting to the scaled down show, except during Closer. He had this pink and yellow gobo on the wiggle lights from the back that was total cheese. It just looked bad. The rest of the lights looked great.

From my perch on the barracades I enjoyed watching Aaron North. He does this kick thing when he's really rocking out that is quite a sight. He really works the stage, sometimes running to SR, doing his kick move a couple times, and then running back to his mic just in time to make his vocal cue.

It was interesting to see Joerdie White's performance in contrast to Aaron's. My view wasn't as good of Joerdie, but I could still see him interacting with the crowd. I think it was during Burn when he sang a chorus part that was so cool, it was run through some sort of effect. I also saw him pointing at the crowd at parts of the show. So, after seeing him, I came to the conclusion that it's not that he's not into the show, but more of a different approach.

I had press passes again for this show. I'm just a bit embarrassed to say that I was too intimidated to ask for a picture. He was meeting a few fans and taking some pics with them backstage and I still couldn't get up the nerve. Also, that man has one scary looking bouncer. The man looks like he could have been a pro wrestler or something.

For the girl who had my cell phone...I know you found it on the grass right beside me, I even saw you pick it up (I didn't realize it was mine.) and walk off with it. I was short with you when I found you in the audience and pulled it out of your pocket because I thought that it was shady when you found a cell phone that wasn't yours on the ground and didn't ask anyone around where you found it if it was their's. I'm sorry if I was a bitch. I seriously thought I was going to have to fight a drunk over a cell and really didn't want to go down that road. Thanks for not calling every person you ever met on my phone while you had it.

I didn't know you were there as well. I tried looking for Adzukie to no luck. :/ I still think the band gave a great performance, despite the limit of time. Crowd behavior be damned! Also, despite what TIMP may say, I haven't grown tired of "Burn" live, especially watching Trent's gesticulating patterns across his face. Plus, watching Trent give a low bow at the end of MOTP was ummm cute, for a lack of better words.

[Sidenote: A couple of NIN spottings before the show. As I was driving downtown, looking for the closest parking deck to the ballpark, I passed by the hotel the band was staying out. Rob and bunch of guys were goofing off in front of the hotel. I was later informed I should have stopped and offered him a sandwich, hehehe.

Also, did anyone else see Alex watching QOTSA set to the side of the stage?]

What was wrong with the audience? I was 15-20 ft from the rail, dead center, and there was definitly some energy there. Maybe those near the rails were worn out from sitting there in the sun all day? Immediately from HLAH to MOTP, everyone was going wild. Jumping, cheering, bumping into each other, singing along, putting their hands it the air, etc. What were people doing during hurt? I must have missed it....

Anyways, I thought it was a great show. They put a ton of engery into it. I only wish they had more time. I guess it was their way of saying thanks for coming out.

This was my first NIN show, so take it for what it is worth.

Has anyone posted vids, tracks, or photos yet? I saw many cameras and a few video cameras.

Wow! What an amazing show. Those first three songs whooped my ass! I turned to the person behind me and said "If they play "Gave Up" or "Wish" next, we're gonna die." SICNH was especially cool with the drums. Then they played "The Frail;" some people started moshing and I said "Wait til the next song, will ya?" "The Wretched" and "Closer" were cool (especially the "Only Time" cameo). I think the crowd wasn't jiving to "Burn" or "Right Where It Belongs," but I did.

People were scratching their heads when Saul came out, but they boogied to his first song. On the next one, "List of Demands," the chorus went like "Where my niggas at?" It seemed like an interesting question since there were only 2 black people in the crowd (by my count). My friend wasn't too thrilled with Saul, but I enjoyed him for the most part.

Then came "Wish," I think. At first I didn't recognize the drum beat and assumed it was "Only." Whenever the chorus was about to start, there was a feeling (by me anyway) that there was about to be a fight (and there was moshing, of course). On "Only" Trent left out the second "fucking" in the chorus and the "Yes it did!" part was REALLY funny. "Suck" was okay, but I hadn't heard it in a while so I didn't know all the words. THTF was another fun sing-a-long, and then came "Hurt." The ending to this song was really powerful thanks to the guitar and the pounding drums. People shouted for an encore, but I already knew the deal. As I left, I felt like singing "Hurt" some more, but I didn't do it.

Overall, it was a kickass, fun show. I appreciated the variations like the "Only Time" interlude and the extension of "March of the Pigs." I just wish there had been more Fragile material besides the "Frail/Wretched" combo. I would've liked to hear "Starfuckers, Inc." too at least, and maybe some more from the new album. Also, I was mad at the drunk people during "Hurt" who were shouting "Play some Tool!" and "Washington, PA!"

Right after they played MOTP, I thought to myself, "if they play Wish, I am gonna end up getting hurt." Sure enough, they did it.

I never expected Suck, so I was very happy to hear it.

Oh yeah, one of the drunk guys I was talking about would start to shout "And you could..." during the wrong time in the chorus (on purpose, I think he did it two or three times).

Yeah, I saw him. I saw him walking around earlier in the day as well and both times he looked like he was just happy as hell to be there. Lucky guy! He has one of the more kick ass jobs on the planet.

This was my first NIN concert but won't be my last. I have to say, Trent sure knows how to put on a show! That guy is a God!!! I was there with my 15 year old daughter and she took some photos... Most were blurry from all the crowd movement, but I am including a photo of Trent while singing Terrible Lie.

I was there on the barricade over on Jeordie White's side. I was rocking out to Queens before. And like every other NIN show with Queens opening the audience has been a little bit dead. Those stupid guys with their voodoo cameras kept aiming them around me.. I do not like being on camera..

NIN set was good. I'm pissed at myself for not bringing enough film so I could get a picture of Jeordie playing the accoustic guitar.. seeing that most times you can't see that due to the curtain. I'm sorry but Trent's backup vocals on that first Saul Williams song had me cracking up so hard. I felt a little bad about laughing but it was too funny.

Well, I just got back from Memphis about an hour ago. I sort of echo the sentiments of everyone who has posted here.

Trent and co. gave it their all and it was probably one of the most energized performances I've seen in years, but shit, the crowd just sucked. There was no energy (at least on the left side front where I was. It seemed like the middle was better). NIN kept giving and giving and kept wanting the fans around me to reciprocate. I mean, it sure seemed like I was the only person having a good time. I have to say though I got really irritated with the number of things people threw on stage: glow sticks, a shirt, bottles of water... What a bizzare sign of affection. Someone had the galls to belt out "I want you to fuck me like an animal" during SICNH. WTF?

The whole band looked amazing. I was screaming my head off when Saul came on and then I was embarassed because I was only person in the area who seemed to be excited about seeing the two of them on stage together. That part of the performance really blew me away the most.

Pictures came out like crap. I was too far left to get a good shot and the camera was dying (spent a lot of time in Graceland. Guilty Pleasure), so I couldn't zoom or use flash. Here are a couple half decent ones:





I only ran into two people I knew (Sorry Orestes, Greg and others. If we did cross paths I didn't recognize you. I hope no one feels snubbed. Performance wise I thought this was an amazing concert. I thank NIN and the rest of the bands for doing this and I wish I was able to go to New Orleans as well, but my husband and I were in Tennessee attending a friend's funeral. This is another reason why I wasn't too particularly social at Voodoo fest.

Sidenote: I saw Ville, Linde and Gas of H.I.M. across the street from my hotel Saturday afternoon. If anyone was staying at the Holiday Inn, those guys were there! God, Ville is just looking awful these days.

Hey, I saw your husband--up in the concession area, I believe--but his huge hawk kind of made him stand out. If I had known he was with you, I would have said "hello".

Btw, did anyone see a guy near the middle right of the stage who looked like Trevor Reznick? I was trying to not stare but he was creepy to look out with this skinny physique and bare chest and jacket. o_O

Okay, here's a pic of my husband (top left) and buddies Matt (red sweatshirt) and Gary (priest) in case anyone interacted with them. I KNOW a very cute blonde chick was rubbing up against Gary and we're all wanting to get a name here....

I saw Gary! Ha! I thought he was a hot priest. I wasn't the blonde chick rubbing up against him, though.

Seriously, I think more people were taking pictures with their tiny digital cameras than watching the show. I only brought a OTUC so it's a crapshoot how well they'll turn out. However, I was standing right in front of Trent for a majority of the show, so we shall see. I saw several people in costume, one a guy dressed up as a nun. I snapped a pic of him in queue for the porta potty, hehehe.

My friend and I slipped inside before FLP came on, and stayed the entire day. The whole fest I thought was great, though Mindless Self Indulgence I thought put on the best show aside from NIN themselves.

As far as NIN went, I was a little to the right but really close to the stage and it was a good deal more energetic there than how most people make it out to have been elsewhere, but it was still lackluster I thought. I was way too in to it to much mind, but had the crowd been more energetic and into it it would have been much better, for the band too I'm sure. Setlist wise..I remember the first few and then it's all out of order, but 'Right Where It Belongs' and 'Terrible Lie' were some of my spotlights, though Hurt would've been euphoric hadn't I been standing right behind the ignorant redneck that was shouting the prementioned 'Play some Tool!" and other senseless bullshit.

Skipping back, Saul was great. Had never listened to him before but he seemed very impassioned, very sincere about what he was saying, his mini performance really shocked me, I was sad to see him leave. When they said they had a special guest, a few people got all riled up (heard some Maynard rumors flying around, so that's probably why) then when they said it was Saul (as was previously announced online) a few took back their praise and traded then for some sighs of disgust. Morons.

Wish I could remember more, but hell, it was a great fucking show and I enjoy the hell out of it.

Needless to say, I have more costume pics than actual concert photos. So, was anyone as amused as I was regarding the number of VIPs in the "press" are early on in the set? It was almost as crowded as the pit and quite a bizarre sight seeing all the dinky digital cameras mixed amongst professionals trying to get a clear shot. Eventually security cleared them out, but it was funny nonetheless.

This was my first NIN show and if I hadn't known what the setlist/stage setup has been like all tour, I would have gave the show a 10. But I was sort of angry that I didn't get to see the Eraser/RWIB/BYIT montage nor did I get to see all the other cool shit and we had to have less songs in the set...but, I think a lot of NIN fans would have wanted to see the occasion I saw last night and hopefully I'll be able to see NIN again.

Other than that, I had a great time, I was on the right side of the stage, like 20 rows (?) away from Aaron North....I enjoyed seeing Queens for the first time as well...during their set, some nice girl named Tiffany started to grind all over me and throughout the New York Dolls (hah) and the NIN show, she was all over me. It was a fun night. Very sexual, like NIN's music has always been to me. The situation was how I wanted my 1st NIN show to be. Making out during the "I am so dirty" part of Suck was perfect.

Trent was fucking awesome, I laughed so hard when he fucked that mic stand up with the guitar at the end of one song, he just hit it like he was hitting a baseball off of a tee. Oh yeah, the "where my niggas at?" part was making me laugh so hard. I don't think anyone will believe me when I tell them about that little hip-hop/NIN experience I had. I liked the sound, the PA sounded better than I expected. The bass sounded awesome, especially during Right Where It Belongs and Hurt. I thought March of the Pigs was gonna be louder but then again it was an outside show. Aaron didn't get as crazy as people usually say he is. During the beginning, in the middle of some of songs, Jeordie would just walk around, take off his bass, and then go get another one, I didn't really understand what he was doing. Alessandro and Alex were great.

I really wanted to see Reptile, Eraser, and all the other new songs....especially You Know What You Are? and Beside You In Time. I can't help but be pissed about it.

Just woke up after getting back from Memphis. 10+ hour drive. DAMN but worth it! Pics go in tomorrow. Hopefully will scan and throw up links. I got a voice recorder into the show and got the entire NIN performance. I haven't listened really yet. Sounds like it might need a little EQ tweaking and I'm not sure how much of the bass it picked up but we will see.. I assume it will get hammered pretty hard so I need to figure out where I want it hosted before I go throwing up links. Ja Mata - I'll post more when I wake up.

ps. whoever kept yelling "[indistinguishable]...STACIE...[indistinguishable]" when saul was on stage, FUCK YOU - I almost have hearing back in my left ear.

Delysid, I can understand why you feel cheated out of a full NIN performance, but this wasn't a routine concert for many reasons. I'm sure the setlist was adjusted to better suit the mood and appropriateness of the occasion. Also, it would have been near impossible for the stage crew to set up a full scale version from the arena tour in such a short timeframe. Not to mention the added hassle of everyone else's gear onstage too. Remember what happened at the outdoor festival in Switzerland?

Speaking of stage gear, before NIN came on, I had the "pleasure" of conversing with some inebriated, short bitch who kept whinging about the tall guy in front of her. Anywoo, she was so drunk that she thought the lights set up behind the LCD panels were gargoyles. Bahahahaha. She also was convinced that M.I.A. was R'n'B music. Ummm yeah.

the more i think about it, the saul willliams/NIN part was so incredible and i feel really lucky to have seen it. So yes, while we may have missed out on songs like Eraser and BYIT, we got to see something that many people never will.

The two songs with Saul were alright. But nothing special. The first one they did seemed to drag on a bit. It was a bit different to hear Trent scream "Where all my nigga's at?" lol... As far as the songs YOU missed out on, there's no way it could have been setup like the rest of the tour. I went to the Madison, WI show and it was sweet. With the screen and all. The led panel was also much larger and complex. I would say though that the performance for this show was better. They were shooting video of the whole thing and voodoomusicfest.com has archives of past performances so with luck we'll get to see some of the performances. As I said before I have an audio recording which I will post a link to shortly. Once I figure out where to put it.

Me and my buddy Robert were waiting in line to get food at one of the concession stands. The 2 (maybe 3, I can't remember) guys cut through the line. One of them is a big baldy, the other is a shorter guy with a buzz cut. I'm thinking to myself "They didn't even say excuse me! Who do they think they are?" Then I looked back and realized who it was. I was waiting on my hotdogs or I would've bolted. But then I did get my hotdogs, and all I could do was just say "oh my fucking god!" to myself. I was frozen stiff. I finally came to my senses, but it was too late. He jetted out of there and my one chance to talk to my musical hero was vanquished. :'(

MEMPHIS DOES NOT DESERVE NIN! I was a bit dissapointed by the memphis show, especially after seeing the nashville show last night, the voodoo show doesnt even exist compared to that show. The crowd sucked especially the obnoxious drunk assholes that wouldn't shut the fuck up during hurt, and the sound should have been alot louder, nashville was above and beyond the shit though, I only wish they would have dropped the curtain when hurt came on, and made it like the video.

Well, with music fests its a mixed bag. I think that's partially why the crowd was lame. I mean, a good bulk of the people around me had only heard of "closers." I just wish they didn't throw so much stuff at the band. I swear I have never seen that much stuff fly on stage from such a small crowd. Yeah, I thought some people were a bit disrespectful during the quieter songs.

I still vouch that Trent and Co. had TONS of energy that night. They gave it their all. I wish the audience gave back for them. For NOLA. Apparently my friend Matt got in a fight with a guy during MOTP *groan* because the dude wouldn't stop fondling Matt's friend. She was not interested to say the least.

Did anyone else see the guy in the clown (Captain Spaulding) mask from House of 1000 Corpses? He was pretty close to where I was. did you guys use a flash on your camera

my pictures came out looking rather shitty.. but i turned my flash off.

Out of about 28 photos, only about 10 came out well exposed. I didn't use a flash for when the lights were fully on, but I should have when the lights were dimmer. I'll post the decent ones tomorrow.

i have been a nine inch nails fan for about 8 years (im only 21) and being from rural arkansas this was my first chance to see them and i was blown away. i was about 10 feet from the stage the entire show and im pretty sure i was the only person wearing camaflouge in about a 100 yard radius. and i was damn near the guy in the captain spaulding mask. but that show was all i could have hoped for. saul williams was interesting but i honestly would have rather had two more nin songs in there. on that note wretched and wish were my two faves. i would have loved to been able to go to nasvhille and see them last night but i just couldnt swing it with class and such today. out of curiosity when did trent shave his head? cause when he first came out during head like a hole i didnt recognize him till he started singing. looked like a damn abercrombie model. lol.

Looking back at it now, I'll just say that if I knew the set and the stage/lights was gonna be like that, I would have went to another show, like the Atlanta one, because honestly, I'll be really pissed if the tour doesn't make another round of US dates with a cool stage setup. I would pay a shitload of money to see it again.

I told all my friends how badass it was gonna be and I was thinking about the Eraser/RWIB/BYIT everyday for like two weeks before the show, and I don't get to fully celebrate/appreciate my experience of the new album. Its a shitty feeling, mostly my fault though, considering I've followed NIN so closely for the last year.

Truly, I wanted to accept the flashlight only to beat them with it! There was also another group of people peddling shit out in front of the venue. I thought the people attempting to scalp tickets for a concert meant to benefit victims of Katrina were also particularly shitty and worthy of being pushed in front of a moving vehicle. I was glad, once inside the venue, everyone seemed to be really cool and ready for a good time.

Were these videos just audio only? I decompressed the .avi files in DivXDoctor, but allI could pull up was audio.

Same thing happened to me. I was able to get a picture after uploading it to windows media player, which directed me to the missing codec.

They are audio and video combined...they should open directly if you have Real Player...anyone have a suggestion on a better place to upload to than yousendit.com?

Tonight I will go back and save the .avi files as .wmv (Windows Media files) and reload...sorry to tease...I will attempt to rectify...

OK orestes and HallowedHeart...let's try again...I created some .wmv files but the compression tore them up, so instead I opted for a new codec for the .avi file creation (Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 codec), so these should open fine in the Windows Media player....and as a backup, I also converted them to Flash Shockwave .swf files for your viewing pleasure....and if that doesn't work then you can just call me a frigging tease. Let me know if it works for you.

You're very welcome....I loved "List of Demands"...I've downloaded Saul's version on my IPod and can't stop listening to it....wish he would do a recording with NIN...the concert version had just the right amount of edge to the sound...

i agree with you. i was at the memphis show, and the crowd was really irritating me and pissine me off. i mean, here u have FUCKING NIN right there....and ppl look so placid, jaded, and almost bored. its very sad. i was about 15-20 feet away from the stage, right up front, and ppl were like...duuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh........ so pathetic. but THE SHOW WAS FUCKING GREAT.
