Well, I am honored to be the first to post. No Meg White on the drums, it turns out it is that 23 yr old kid from San Diego, who, by the way, fucking sucks. He was consistently missing beats, fucking songs up, and the band played the worst version of Reptile I have ever fucking heard. Set list was as follows

I think that is all the songs, the order towards the end might be a bit jumbled. I have to say that drummer is the worst drummer I have heard backing NIN. He is just awful and I think it detracted from their performance. In reptile, it seemed as though everyone was playing a different part all at once. Sounded real fucked up. Highlights were definitely the lighting and the video footage.

Also, I have to say, the spiral is a fucking waste of money and I fucking regret ever giving them money. All in all, I thought it was a pretty shitty show.

Give the drummer a break. It's his first show with them. The show was excellent. The highlight for me was meeting the band. The first 30-40 spiral members got into soundcheck for the last song and then the band walked around and signed autographs. Trent was very nice. He looked everyone straight in the eye, smiled a lot, very talkative, and just seemed really down to earth. It was a great experience.

The visuals for the most part were really good. The videos for "eraser", "rwib" and "byit" were the highlight of the show itself. The only thing i was a little dispointed about was the lack of use the LCD screens got. They only used them in about half the songs, and I thought those were the strongest aspect of the stage design. When they were on, they were amazing, like with "The Line Begins to Blur."

I thought that the show was great! I did miss Jerome though on drums, but I don't think that the temp guy was bad. I was not nor have I ever been disappointed by NIN.

Ruth, are you sure were at the Allstate Arena tonight? That show was extremely TIGHT. The crowd was great. Trent and Co. were on fire. I think we'll see Trent say that was a highlight of the tour so far.

I agree it was an awesome show and just to hear "reptile" get pulled out of the archives for a live performance thrilled me to death. The new drummer will get better as will the rest of the band, they haven't had that much time to gel. Great Chicago show from Trent and Co.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. First, the drummer did not suck...while he wasn't Jerome (or John) he did a respectable job. Second comparing this to the Seattle show I saw two weeks ago - this one kicked its ass...the sound was better, the band and the crowd seemed more into it, people stood in their seats and there just seemed to be more excitment and electricity. I looked for fellow ETSers, but sadly saw none. Hopefully all you in Section 111 had a blast.

That was cool to hear that you early arrivers got to sit in on the soundcheck and meet the band.

After years of quiting smoking, I feel as if I have now started again thanks to the asshole couple next to me. They talked and smoked through most of the show. The woman kept rubbing her ass on my thigh with her "dancing." At one point she pulled up her long top/skirt to reveal her thong which she pulled out of her ass not once, not twice, but three times during the show. Say it along with me now "ewwwww"

Trent was the silent type again (did we really expect anything more?), although he must have said "thank you" a half dozen times.

The show was fucking amazing. Loved how they had the curtains pulled and used em as a screen for a few songs. Loved hearing Pinion opening up. Eraser live was godly.(I got a kick outta all the yelling when Bush dancing with his wife was on screen) Was surprised to hear Beside You In Time. No Piggy though :[ But still, amazing show. Aarone was crazy, and everyone was great. The drummer was pretty damn good too.

Which leads me to my next piece of info.

On the way to the show, we were listening to a local radio station, Q101. They had mentioned that Jerome was injured and wouldn't be drumming. Then, they said that the replacement drummer, was the drummer from A Perfect Circle, and not only that he would be subbing for this show, but for the rest of the tour as well. I don't listen to APC so i dont know if thats him in teh current photos of nin.com, but im just sayin what I heard.

All in all, AMAZING show, can't wait for the next, gonna do anything to get floor tickets for it.

The drummer did start too early after the break in reptile...but the band caught the beat. He did ok. Eraser was phenomenal with the projected images...wow. The projection was moving...Queens of the Stone age sucked...i was the one that told him to kill himself.

The drummer's name is Alex. That's the only info i got. There was no introduction to him during the show. Trent introduced him to the people at the soundcheck.

NIN was great, no doubt, but everyone's gone over that, maybe I'll cover the other two acts.

Queens of the Stone Age was great, although I wish they would have played more noticeable songs, I have two of their albums and I only recognized the most popular ones, myself. I felt bad for them though because they had a great stage presence and attitude but the crowd full of black NIN shirts didn't really get into it. Josh Homme had a great sense of humor about it though, especially with his Knock Knock joke.

Autolux sucked. I've only seen four bands live in my entire life, and I don't think I'll ever see a worse act. I think even one of the guitarists got fed up with how shitty they are, halfway through their last song he unplugged his guitar and just slothed around on stage. The other guitarist wasn't much better, they both handle their guitars like five year old girls playing with batons, but the female drummer was pretty good, even though her singing wasn't any better than the other two.

I'm glad I didn't check out their music beforehand, like I did with the Dresden Dolls way back when. All of their songs sound the same, disjointed beats and barely audible singing. It was pretty much just one big long piece of shit. Imagine LCD Soundsystem without the talent, slowed down five or six times, and that's Autolux.

EDIT: And I was the one that yelled that they sucked during their set.

Good show. Poor drummer.

Maybe I have been spoiled by seeing NIN twice before with such a skilled, professional drummer like Jerome, and once with Vrenna.

Honestly though, the guy on stage tonight was at best an ok amateur drummer. While the rest of the band was absolutely top notch, he was clearly having problems keeping up and his technique was not very good. I wonder if You Know What You Are? was dropped due to his lack of skill. It's one of the tougher NIN songs for a drummer.

Anyone else notice the large cue cards on the right side of the stage he was following? They were charts of the songs with measures, repeats, and cues to help him out.

The low point was definitely Reptile, which I at first was excited to hear. Regrettably, the drummer started too early after the pause and completely threw off the song. The synths were playing the verse while the rest of the band tried to keep up with the chorus. Then after the chorus was destroyed, the drummer displayed a classic 'deer in the headlights look' and brought the song to a halt. Luckily, Aaron was right by the drums and began playing the song's riff. He saved the day. This got things back on track for remainder of the song. Pretty disappointing.

It's a real shame, though. I hate to focus on the negative. The rest of the guys were in great form. The Eraser/Right Where/Beside You section was fantastic. The crowd was great. I just hope we get some explanation from Trent as to why we were stuck with such a rotten drummer. I think we deserve better.

I'm not a big QOTSA fan, but they were pretty good considering their audience, and they had fun with it. plus, there was some lady behind me and a few seats down that was completely WASTED during their performance, and was swinging her shirt around and screaming and dancing all drunk. quite fun to watch.

What song was it that Aaron was like, upside down laying on the speaker playing and getting feedback? was that him saving Reptile?

I don't see it that way. I was thrilled to hear Reptile, fuck-ups or not. The way I see it is that we got a version that no one else will. Everyone else will here the perfect (or near-perfect) version.

I think it's fair to say that there will probably never be a bad, mediocre, or even just ok NIN show, and I absolutely enjoyed myself tonight and thought they were great. However, of the 5 times I've seen them this year, this probably ranks at #4 (1. Coachella, 2. London July 4th, 3. Hollywood Bowl, 4. Tonight, 5. Club opening Fresno show). Aaron was not as wild tonight and his antics were missed to their true potential. Once again, not bad at all, and to say so, great(!), but just not as good as other times I've seen them this year.

Crowd on the floor was rather pushy, comparable to the London show. A few morons next to me not only were snaking EVERYONES spot around me, but kept babbling during all the Right Where It Belongs about incoherent garbage. I also am on the second week of mono, so part of the stamina was my fault (I'm pretty wiped out). There was a lot of cool people in the crowd too, so it was ok.

Set list (as posted above) was pretty much the same as the Hollywood Bowl except minus You Know What You Are, and like everyone's been saying Reptile was fucked up quite a bit, but I kinda liked that, it's like when someone messes up on a solo, and you kinda then realize that they're actually making this music/riffs/noise there in the flesh (or at least contorolling/manipulating loops live). I had a little chuckle.

The new drummer wasn't anything special, but he didn't suck either. He played everything the way he was supposed to, minus a few Jerome-isms that were used to by now. Only part of the Reptile fuck up was due to him, other parts just seemed to be because of lack of cohesion of the entire band.

I'm getting nervous that this set list is not going to be very diverse, especially with new drummers galore (although this one is supposedly going to stick around for a bit). Call me blasphemous, but I'm getting tired of hearing Burn, Suck, The Hand That Feeds, and Head Like A Hole (as a closer, definitely play it during the show though). I'd really love to hear Deep and Down In It (it seems realistic enough since he's done them about 5 times already on the stadium tour). Other realistic (as of now) possibilities I'd still love to hear for the first time include TDTWWA and No You Don't. Why is there NO love for The Fragile this tour?

I have one more show to fill out the year in Boston. I hope I don't get the same set list.

I thought the show was excellent.
Autolux sucked.
Queens of the Stone Age were great.
This was the fourth time I've seen nin, and it was the best.
And although Reptile was fucked up, it didn't seem like it was all the
drummer's fault, because Alessandro seemed to have fucked up some
of the keyboard parts as well.

He may have done it more than once while I was getting thrashed around on the floor, but he traditionaly only does it during Head Like A Hole, which I saw him do tonight as well.

That's a totally cool way to look at it WiggleButt. It was definitely interesting to watch them recover so well. The version of Reptile I saw at the Congress a few months a go was 'perfect' so I guess I can't complain.

It wasn't Reptile where Aaron was hung over the half-cab, but some other song towards the end. That was pretty amusing. He's definitely becoming a great part of the NIN live show.

Personally, I'd take Piggy over Only and a few more any day of the week

But maybe it's a good thing the new guy isn't trying to atempt the drumming at the end of the song.

all i got to say is that i had a great fucking time!!! okay okay so maybe reptile wasnt " perfect" , but shit what in this world really is? it was a great great show i hope Trent felt the energy of the crowd which was totally into it. i was kinda afraid that they might turn into the Sac. crowd when the pit barely let out a whisper and barely moved during QOTSA. i thought Queens did a pretty good job love them or hate them they did play a pretty tight set. AutoLux ... i didnt mind there art stylings but i just wish there were lyrics sung during there songs and that you could hear the lyrics they did sing in the first place. anyway, i really thought that trent and company played a very tight set even with the new drummer, which IMHO is a credit to him as a musician, i mean c'mon Trent did pick this guy and im sure he had his pick of the lot when it came to avaiible drummers. Aaron really did piss on Robin Fink's shoes i really enjoyed his energy. Alessandro was doubling up on the synths with one hand on each synth about arms lenght apart. Jordie show more energy then i though he would and was really consistent on the bass. and trent sounds so healthy... i cant say anymore.... i dont have a voice from the singing... AWSOME FUCKING SHOW

Artgirl and I were standing and watching Autolux (their CD is decent...wanted to see their performance). I turned around and thought...nah, can't be. So I pinched Artgirl.

And yes. Yes. It was Trent. Behind us during Autolux. We were both startled, but I didn't notice him until he was walking away, so we just stood their gaping away.

Artgirl's "It's Him..." comment with a squeak cracked me up.

I couldn't yell out, "Yo, Trent" because he'd be mobbed. So we let him walk away, unnoticed.

The security guy got a great laugh out of that.

The show was cool, though. Glad I only got moshed on a little bit because that drives me nuts.

I enjoyed The Wretched - love that song.

They finally got rocking girl shirts - woot! Very happy with them. I got the black one with the logo thing - SIN.

And I chatted with Rob. He's a sweetie.

Bad:

I"m a little upset about missing the Soundcheck - I could've been there earlier, but was told we couldn't get our tickets until 5pm (via phone AND email). So that was quite mismanaged (those who went to the Soundcheck got their tix well before 5pm). So the rest of us had to freeze outside. I'm still cold.

$5 for a Pepsi? WTF!

No 'real' surprise? I was hoping they'd play a special tune. Like Last. :/

Autolux was GREAT!! I was standing by the soundboard on the main floor. (I saw Autolux at Coachella but I couldn't really SEE them at Coachella way back in that little tent.)

I should have stood in front at this show, but I didn't know if it would be too rowdy up there. But everybody was just standing around. I wanted to jump up and down and dance and commit frottage. Oh well.

I could almost reach up and touch the projection light, oooooo...

Oddly, my friend and I agreed that the sound at this show was WAY better than at the Congress shows. A LOT better.

Where were you and Artgirl, Sugarplum? Maybe you were sitting by KONSTANTIN!! (Who texted me a funny message during QOTSA... )

Hey, Beavette - I wondered where ya were, I did! During Openers, we were up on the right...about 10 rows back. Durning NIN, on the left about 12 rows back. I was standing by some 7 foot tall dude. Thank goodness he was behind me.

For some reason, really tall people seem to move in front of Artgirl. It's like she's a magnet...

I've been around the block a few times, but this was my first NIN show. Incredibly tight, controlled, and knee-shakingly powerful.

The new drummer was Alex Carapetis, a drummer from Aussieland who has done work with Diesel and Lenny Kravitz. Considering his first rehearsal with the band was last night, he did a creditable job.

This was my first NIN show and far from my last.

Okay...stood out in the spiral entrance for 5 hours...but it was worth it. Trent, Alex, Alessandro, Aaron, Jeordie...a pleasure to meet all of you. Thanks for being so courteous. I'll get back to Alex in a bit.

Autolux wasn't my cup of tea. A couple of their songs had me grooving, but all in all, the drummer was fantastic.

QOTSA...not too bad. If Josh would give up the same old jokes, I might have liked their performance better. He was in good voice tonight, though.

NIN...first off, I have to give Alex much respect. When I shook his hand at the soundcheck, I didn't even notice his right hand was bandaged. Apparently, this man has been eating, breathing, sleeping the drum parts of the NIN catalogue for the last 48 hours or so. That dedication and his energy show that he'll be on top of his game sooner than later.

Trent was in great voice tonight. Aaron's energy is spectacular. Everyone did a great job.

Sugarplum - I can relate to artgirl, I have the same affliction. Sorry we didn't end up meeting at this show, liked we'd talked about in Spiral Chat - the brunette the redhead and the blonde.

Alright, let me start by saying this is the 6th time I’ve seen NIN in concert. Obviously I had huge expectations for this show. And yes, I was a little concerned with having a new drummer, as well as the choice of venue.

Let me just say that this was the best fucking show I have seen PERIOD. I had an ear to ear grin from the moment Pinion came on, to the very last note of Head Like a Hole. I was buzzing so crazy after the show, I couldn’t even think!

The setlist was perfect. Yes, they didn’t play enough stuff from the Fragile. Fine. Whatever. The setlist rocked! To hear Eraser, Reptile, Burn, Right Where it Belongs and Beside you in Time just made my day.

The drummer. Yes, there were times when he missed a beat. But this was a LIVE show, not a fucking STUDIO record! He was awesome. Totally awesome. Not a Chris Vrenna though (he always was my favorite).

The sound was amazing. I couldn’t believe how clear the sound was, considering it was an arena tour. The lights. Holy shit, the lights. Fucking awesome. Trent had 4 layers of lights going! There was the huge screen in the front, the cool teethy light thing (from the With Teeth theme), then some more cool lights… can’t really describe them.

I was buzzing crazy when I walked out. I wasn’t even able to think straight! He played for 90 minutes straight, without an encore. No need for an encore. The band was so tight. Waaaay better than they were 6 months ago when they were here (and they rocked the house then). Aaron was a crazy fuck as usual, and was awesome. Trent was the man. Such a professional.

I can’t say enough. Best show PERIOD.

And Reptile rocked the fucking house, I don’t care what anyone says.

PS If you wanted to see a bad show, you should have seen U2 a few weeks back at the United Center. Worst…. Show… EVER.

I have to agree with Reinhardt. I thought this was one of their best. Visually awesome. I was excited every minute of the show. Reptile sounded great. Thought the drummer was fine. Sound was very clear and so was the vocals. NIN Definitely rocked the house.

I wasn't impressed with any of the other bands, but have to admit QOTSA made me laugh with his corny gay jokes.

In Summary, Kick ass concert. Enjoyed every minute.

Yeah, just got back from it now (Went to steak and shake to grab some food after the show).

Anyway, I thought Autolux was wonderful until they bursted out into this strange orgy of feedback that included strange dramatic crawling and shit.

They weren't great, but they weren't terrible (I would have fuckin' loved to have seen Death From Above, gah, but things cant be perfect), 'blanket' was fucking awesome live.

Queens of the Stoneage did an okay job I thought. Josh was hilarious but I felt bad for them because they were getting heckled pretty bad (At least in my area), and the audience (at least what I could see of the pit) looked pretty dead.

Does anyone know why Josh stopped in the middle of one of his songs to talk to that security guard or something? Was some dude beating up kids or some shit?

Anyway, Nails hit the stage and they blew me away. Seriously, Everything seemed spot on tonight (I really didn't mind the new drummer dude, there were a few things that he didn't do quite like Jerome, but I got over 'em pretty fast, he'll be damn good by the end of the tour).

Man, what a surprise 'Only' was, the intro was something way different from what I expected. 'Right Where it Belongs' was even better in concert, it was simply awesome.

Add in the musings of a drunk dude that almost pissed himself when he figured out nin was playing burn, a chain smoking granny who dances to march of the pigs, and you have a near perfect evening.

After the show, I got the fuck out of there as fast as possible.. I didn't feel like dealing with traffic.

Autolux sucked balls. The last song of the 5-song set went on for what seemed like forever, and it was equivalent to a little kid pounding on a piano, as my boyfriend had said.

QotSA were great, I absolutely loved them.

NIN fucking rocked my world. It was my first concert and I loved it, except I kept getting all these tall fucks in front of me and I'm only 5'8". Gah. I still managed to get some awesome video clips (though they're soundless). The pictures leave a little to be desired. Hard to take good pics with a pretty motion sensetive camera while bouncing up and down and being pushed around in the crowd.

Opening bands weren't terrible. Autolux wasn't as good as QOTSA, but nobody was there to see either of them anyway.

NIN fuckin rocked. The sound was perfect. I've never gone to a concert with such perfect sound quality. Aaron North was fuckin crazy as always, and Trent was at his best. I think this drummer deal is getting blown way out of proportion. If you were really into the show you didnt even notice a beat getting missed here or there. The lighting and video footage during eraser, RWIB, and BYIT were fuckin amazying.

All in all it was by far the best concert i ever went to!
Did you see the pit during THTF and Head Like A Hole, they were goin nuts!

autolux: although i respect them, their set literally made me sleepy. i got the feeling half their songs were more or less improvised.

qotsa: great set. josh has an amazing voice, and their guitar/bass player was incredible, even though he looked like a hobo. but how come josh was smoking? i thought he quit.

nin: blew me away as usual. lots of energy and the lighting and stage design was mesmerizing. but was it just me, or did trent eff up a line in the wretched?

First of all, I agree 100% with Reinhardt's review. I'm too tired for coherient post, but here's some things that come to mind:

The drumming was not as good as Jerome's, but cut the new guy some fucking slack. If he's still fucking up 5 shows later, then it's time to start bitching.

I assure everyone that Autolux just had a bad night. I saw them at San Diego and they were awesome. I got their CD the other day, and am very happy I did.

QoTSA was really good tonight compared to a bootleg I heard and the San Diego show. I found myself really getting into them this time. I still think the lead singer is a moron though.

The sound was AWESOME for an arena (at least right in front of the stage). I was really impressed.

Aaron was a madman at the beginning, but by the end, he was mostly just pulling a Jordie (standing...or walking in circles).

I've got to say that this concert was awesome. Everything wen't really well, especially considering the inexpierenced drummer. I hardly noticed some of the errors since I was so into the songs. I think it's my favorite concert EVER, and that's saying something.

I think I need to find tickets to another NIN show soon.

Back...finally!

We missed three Autolux songs, sadly. The ones we did hear (Blanket and Plantlife) were good. Some tatooed redneck dickbag in front of us was heckling them the whole time we were there. I kept saying, "You think they're bad? Just wait for the next band..."

And, of course, QOTSA sucked. Their lighting was almost as annoying and bad as Josh "El Douchebag" Homme's sense of humor. "Get drunk and get laid..." "Take the dick out of your mouth..." Just miserable stuff. The music sounded a little better live, but that didn't help poor Josh's crappy voice.

NIN were fantastic as usual and I was wondering what happened during "Reptile," so thanks for the info. Trent also flubbed the beginning of "Closer."

Highlights:

--Seeing LINE live, finally.

--TLBTB is quickly moving into one of my favorite live NIN songs ever.

--The crowd seemed on...we all knew the words to every song, except when "Burn" started and people who hadn't been to any of the club gigs didn't recognize it right away, but then when Trent started singing, joined right back in.

--THTF is also an excellent live song.

--The silk screen presentation was very cool.

--NIN's energy. The setlist overall was quite aggressive with just a few slower paced songs. The meltdown at the end of HLAH was classic NIN.

Lows:

--"Sin" sucks live now. I prefer the AATCHB era version.

--The issues during "Reptile"

--The lack of Reznor banter. He said "Thank you" a bunch of times, that's all. This is the third time I've seen NIN and the last two times he spoke alot. It's a small bitch on my part but I feel more "at home" when he interacts a bit more.

--BYIT sounds alot better on my bootleg of San Diego than it did tonight.

--For the love of god, trade in "Sin" or even "Hurt" for AATCHB!!!!!

Overall, it was a great show. I was and am very happy with tonight's performance.

Please tell me one of you taped it and we'll finally have a WT era Chicago bootleg!

I might be wrong but I'm really convinced they played a new nin song over the speakers after Trent and gang left the stage. And it was really damn good, probably better than anything I've heard off of WIth Teeth. It had the droning sound of Eraser with a lot of bizarre beats, it was a bit hard to make out as it was turned down but I could clearly make out Reznor singing thru out it. If that wasn't nin, someone please tell me what the hell they played once the lights went on.

Also, great show, I was hoping that the keyboards would have been a bit more prominent where as they had guitar solos covering up the keyboard solos but not a big deal there. Still wish they would have played more new songs like All THe Love In The World and Everyday Is Exactly The Same.

QOTSA's lead singer was an obnoxious little bitch. I felt like I was watching a 13 year old throwing a temper tantrum on stage. Their music, while not terrible, was completely and utterly boring. They take the rock in rock music and give it warm milk and make it watch Matlock until it passes out at 5 pm.

Missed Autolux so I can't vouch for them but I'm sure they would have been great.

it was cool seeing Billy Corgan on the side of the stage for a few seconds during The Hand That Feeds. i immediately thought the next song was going to be starfuckers and he was going to help trent out, but i was surprised when he never came out totally on stage and trent didnt even acknowledge him.

The drummer situation wasn't bad at all. Granted I've not been to any NIN shows for this album besides the first night at The Congress. We DID get a perfect Reptile that night, so tonights embellishments seemed unique and probably something most of us that went tonight will always think about and smirk while listening to the track in the future.

We came from Indiana(yea, I know. ugh) and with the shitty weather and road rage traffic it took us over 2 hours to get there. The driver forgot his ipod, so we listened to Q101 and they replayed the interview Trent did on Tuesday. Nothing in the interview stood out as being "news", but the story of Trent's best friend getting shot was upsetting.

We missed Autolux. I downloaded a few tracks when they were announced to get a feel for them and they had my interest, but I wasn't that upset to miss them.

We got to our seats in Sec 116 "just in time" to see QOTSA. Before I comment, I'll say I am a semi-fan for them and picked up their last CD. I saw them at Q101's Block Party with Interpol and Hot Hot Heat. They were entertaining and enjoyable THAT night. I won't say they sucked, but it was sorta blah. It's hard to give them a fair break when the crowd was really harsh to them. NIN is my favorite band/music/love, but Queens was not a very good opener for the genre styles. Queens are good at what they do, but what they do don't spark interest in NIN-ites. I enjoyed them as much as I could. The guitar riffs are very ZZ Top-esque. I mean that in a good way. lol

Nine Inch Nails were, as always, great. I caught the first nights of the Fragility tour in 2000 and the Congress club show eariler this year and I have to say this was my favorite NIN experience. Of course there were songs I wanted to hear that they didn't play. I've still yet to see Down in it performed in person, I'd of loved to of heard Deep, and some random goodies like Sanctified, The Becoming, or WITT, but oh well. On the way out, everyone was hyped and all smiles. That is what counts. We paid our money to see NIN perform and put on one helluva and show and that was accomplished. Being the fans we are, surely we'd want to hear every song in the NIN catalog, but there's only so much time. As much as none of us want to think about it, tours usurally have the agenda to sell more albums. So obviously we're to get a plethera of With Teeth songs with the major singles and a few other classics. Seeing RWIB live for the first time was surreal. It seemed there was more lighters up for it than Hurt. I think in time, RWIB will be the finale song that it merits to be. I've been half ass keeping up with other set lists, can anyone confirm if the entire WT track list has been played live by now? I feel like there's only one or two songs, if any, that's not been played atleast somewhere.

Anywho, on the way out I picked up a litho for $20. There seemed to be a lot of them left. I ended up getting it home safe with no bends, rips, or damages. On the way home, Q101 did an hour of NIN. Being that they're really the only option now for new rock music in Chicago, it's good to know Chicago loves them some NIN.

I am wired. One helluva show, one helluva night, one helluva experience.

Queens of the Stone Age was fucking awsome but no one seemed to care. They all just kinda sat there with blank looks (unless of course they were busy heckling them).

Really unfortunate that no one seemed to give a shit about them. I thought they fucking rocked. I was really impressed.

Didnt get there in time for Autolux so I cant comment on them.

As for NIN

Highs:
-Love Is Not Enough behind the curtain was really cool.
-Burn was fucking amazing.
-Only sounds better live, and the visual effects they had were cooler than the music video.
-No Starfuckers Inc. I didn't miss it.
-Crowd was really into it, seemed like 1 out of every 3 people knew all the words to every song which is pretty damn cool.
-March of the Pigs, Wish, Terrible Lie, The Hand That Feeds, and Head Like A Hole were all awsome as usual.

Lows:
-Somebody messed up durring Reptile and there was a lot of confusion as everyone was playing a different part of the song. But it did sound kinda cool at times.
-They didnt play You Know What You Are (due to the new drummer i guess?) :[
-The video footage from Fragility 2.0 was way better than the projector movie on this tour.
-People in Chicago drive like fucking manacs. Jesus, do all of you people go 120 in a 65?

Err.. anyways, this show was one of the best Ive ever seen for sure.

P.S. did anyone else get alil buzzed off the second hand pot smoke? i havent touched that shit in four years, and i could swear that my sausage links at IHOP, after the show, tasted just like pot makes everything taste- really really good

On that topic, when you're really high and watching "The Wretched" live, that screaming animal noise sounds REALLY FUCKING WEIRD!! I started wondering if that noise was coming from the stage, almost started worrying that a giant monster or lion was roaming around in the crowd somewhere eating people.

I just got back from the Chicago show and it was my first NiN show!
I'm still quite excited about the whole event and even with a new drummer it was great.
I noticed reptile was a bit off and the drummer seemed like he was platying catch up quite alot, but you guys who said he sucked need to chill because it's his first show with the band and remember last week he was just a normal average Joe and now he's the drummer in NINE INCH FUCKING NAILS.

The screen was brilliant and they didn't play one song i wasn't totally into.
I would go on and on about how much of a great time it was but everyone who attended should feel that way (except the jaded few of you)

The ride home sucked (i hate chicago..or my friend who i let drive my car)

I was in section 111, but i was late so i didnt get to meet many people, let alone ask if anyone was from ETS.
I love you all regardless.

So, I see people have a problem with my post. There is so much of a problem that it has been mentioned on theninhotline.com. Let me explain myself. I have seen NIN during the downward spiral tour, during the fragile tour, during the club venue portion of the with_teeth tour, and now this show. The beginning of the show was fine, then it began to worsen as it became more apparent that the drummer did not know the material well. He tried to put in some "fills" into the songs which just didn't fit and sounded very amateur. I am a drummer, and hearing poor drumming on these songs just makes everything else sound off-beat. Honestly, it may be hard to deal with playing in front of 15,000 or so people, but that should not be an excuse. I am sure there are plenty of drummers that can play the nin songs, fans and professional drummers. Anyone who has heard the live shows or is familiar with their songs could probably rock that out any night, any set list. For example, Reptile is probably the easiest song to play when it comes to drums and this kid, Alex, fucked it up bad. You people like to say that you got a unique version of Reptile, I like to say that you got a severely mangled version of one of their best live songs.

Onto the spiral, the spiral is a piece of shit. It would have been great if Trent or Musictoday said that they would be issuing tickets earlier in the day and that only a select handful of the people who wasted 60 would be able to see the soundcheck. I arrived at 330, had to wait till 515 to get my tickets and then wait outside until 600 when they finally let us in which was all of 10 minutes or so before the general crowd. Granted, I did get a cool spiral stamp on my left hand and I did get a nice looking ticket, but who the fuck cares. Does anyone else share my opinion?

All in all, I think this was a pretty average performance. It started off great but I think it ended poorly. I think most NIN fans would be happy if Trent came out and slept on stage for 1.5 hours or let us watch him do laundry. You are so fucking blind to the fact that it is possible to have a shitty performance. The energy of the crowd was great, but I just felt that the drummer was the low point of the show which, unfortunately, affected everything in my eyes.

I wish I knew what Beavette looked like, too because I see people's posts here all the time from everyone, but wouldn't know squat if I saw you guys on the street. it's such a weird situation.

...but anyway...!

The show was SO SO SO great. I had one of the best times of my life - even without getting into the soundcheck (I will cry alone later... hee hee) but sugarplum and I had our trent-spotting during Autolux, and we met Rob although I'm pretty sure he thought we were total geeks because he told us that the new drummers name was Scott - and lo and behold, it's nothing even close to that... oh well... I thoroughly enjoyed the show and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

and yeah, I am a magnet for tall brick-wall type dudes, but you gotta expect that when you're in the pit and not quite 5'2"... as long as I can HEAR the music, I can have an awesome time!

one guy was really nice to me and let me stand in front of him (which actually gave me a much better view for a little bit!- thank you mystery man!) which doesn't usually happen, and I was grateful. with the exception of moshy-boy (who needed to get his ass to the middle of the pit with the other drunk-ass steriod-using neanderthals rather than smacking into me and everyone else around him!) the crowd was very cool on the floor.

oh man, I'm still reeling from the excitement and DEAD TIRED at the same time. great feeling. great show. thank you!

edit: sugarplum said that she doesn't remember rob telling us the drummer's name was scott. maybe my earplugs were malfunctioning and he said something else and i made it up in my head to be "scott"??? what the hell. i don't know.

You shouldn't take that too seriously. But you might want to pay attention to what I was quoting.

Have you not read any of the threads on this board or the Spiral board? It's common knowledge that only the first 30-60 people who get to the venue get in for the soundcheck. Quit complaining about this, it's your own fault -- you were unprepared.

I thought the show was great. Yes, there was an issue during Reptile, but the band handled it professionally and saved the song. (It's not like they just stopped playing.)

I really liked the lighting and the visuals.

Anybody notice the extra fills during Gave Up? They weren't bad at all..

Overall, Alex finished out pretty good, considering the amount of time he had to rehearse. Before the show, I could hear, from ouside, them rehearsing Eraser, Only, and Suck.

I'm beginning to think I'm the only person who was sad that they didn't play Starfuckers or You know what you are?..

..The visuals were incredible. Everyone was going fucking nuts on the top level when the last chorus to THTF was playing.

Oh contrare, I loved QotSA as well. I hated Autolux and hated the fact that I got there earliy enough to sit through their dumpster of songs. Autolux: Just more proof that having a chick drummer doesn't make you cool.

I don't see why people bitch about Josh's humor. They're probably the same people that would watch Dave Latell (sp?) or South Park, or half of Adult Swim and not mind that, but yet when Josh spouts some humor about getting laid or being drunk, it's not okay anymore *rolleyes*

Anyway, after Autolux, QotSA made me feel like standing around waiting for NIN some more. If I wasn't towards the front standing on the floor with a pile of people around me I probably would have just sat down during Autolux.

On top of that, I'm sure there are quite a few people (not all, mind you) that wouldn't have necessarily noticed as much of the "poor drumming" if they hadn't known beforehand that it wasn't Jerome Dillon playing. Just my opinion though.

One more thing. If you don't like the opening acts, keep your fucking mouths shut. I don't mean on the message board, I mean heckling. Believe it or not, there are actually people attending who appreciate Autolux & Queens and would prefer to listen to them without some double-digit I.Q. holder bellowing their disapproval. If you don't want to see the opening bands, then arrive at the concert later. I noticed a post a couple of pages back, where some clown wrote: "Queens of The Stoneage sucked... I was the one who told him to kill himself." Wow. Brilliant. I can't fathom the level of pride one must feel after owning up to such a moment of hilarity on an internet message board. Give yourself a pat on the back, champ. You get a gold star.

Missed Autolux, and QOTSA were great. My only gripe about Queens is that they dragged their songs on a little bit too long. I thought the crowd was actually pretty damn receptive to Queens. I think that was pretty evident by their participation in the lame knock, knock joke, and there was an awful lot of cheering and clapping heard back in the reserved sections. Granted I couldn’t hear the “heckling” in GA but I saw an awful lot of hands being raised and clapping from that area also. So, I think for this show at least, it’s a misconception that the NIN crowd hates QOTSA.

NIN was great. There’s not much I could say that hasn’t already been said. They put on a quality show. Minor rant: The seats we had sucked. I don’t regret joining the Spiral, but I’m very disappointed that that was the best Allstate Arena would provide. The seating situation was made even worse for me as everyone in front of me was tall and I could only see Trent and the drummer as long as I leaned forward to the right and stretched my neck, which wasn’t so bad but I would have enjoyed seeing the whole stage. Ah well, seating situation aside, the show was still great.

I wasn't a fan of Autolux or Queens of the Stone Age, but I respect them for what they do.

NIN was awesome as always, I thought the new drummer did a great job given the amount of time he's had to learn these songs. Plus, I caught a drum stick, so I am happy! Eraser was probably the highlight of the show for me since it's an incredible song and one of my favorites. Though, I was hoping for Somewhat Damaged. I loved how they started with that on the Fragility tour to get the adrenaline flowing!

After reading Trent's response in the TR section, I can understand why the energy and antics wasn't at 100% last night, and you know what, I commened the band for doing such a good job concidering their crazy schedual. Good for them. Now I'm just hoping for balls to the walls insanity at Boston, he he he

Billy Corgan was sidestage?!?! Wow! Fuck, I can't beliefve I missed that! If Trent didn't even introduce the new drummer, I can see why he didn't announce Billy. He probably didn't want all the after show attention anyways.

Oh, lemme comment on the opening bands.

Just because of how it all worked out, this was my FOURTH time seeing Autolux, and I'm glad DFA 1979 is going to be on the second leg of the tour. I'm a little burned out on them after four shows. I really like them though. They started out pretty well but the technical problems the bass player had during Turnstile Blues really kinda sunk me, as it's my favorite song of theirs.

I love QOTSA and this was my second time seeing them live. I liked that they played a surprisingly different set of songs than at the Bowl. I really want to see them when they're the headlining band so more people are into them, because it's not as fun when almost everyone in the pit is pretty much just standing there. I feel bad for Josh and co for having to give it their all and not get the type of response they're used to. His banter is kinda juvinile, but I guess so am I so I had no problem with his silly trite jokes. They played a good mix of new and old, and actually, played a good majority off their debut self-titled and Rated R. Regular John was awesome live, as well as I Think I Lost My Headache and Song For The Dead.

While this was my first NIN show, I was in no way disappointed over their preformance. The new drummer didn't seem bad at all, and in all honesty I didn't even recognize the "fuck up" during Reptile. Now I wish I had, but the whole show was great for me.

Ohh man i had the best time last night. Unfortunately, i was all the way up on sec 212 row B i believe seat 9, but i still had a blast, the guys up there were nice. Seeing Trent Reznor gave me goose bumps. Everyone in the crowd was getting so into it i dont think there is one person in the joint whose bones ache as much as mine do. Thank You all for the great energy, i was buzzed all night long!

I am one of the people that wanted to see autolux!

I like them a lot! I only wish they wouldve played more songs...namely "here comes everybody"

I also noticed some of the drumming for nin was off too. It was still a great great show!

Although I was looking forward to hearing Down In It and Not So Pretty Now, and the guy with me wanted to Starfuckers inc, it was still a damn good show.

I thought Autolux was pretty good. I wish they would've played more songs. Solid performance, and I'm looking forward to see them again on Tuesday.

Queens were great. There were a bunch of kids in front of us who were really into them too. Josh Homme seems like a pretty cool guy. His sense of humor is perfect for a drunk dude.

As for NIN, I was kind of dissapointed with the predictability of the setlist. The visuals were excellent. Better than Fragility. Fuck those nerds that were bitching on the spiral board.

I agree that some parts sounded weird with the new drummer, but I'm hoping they'll have that all worked out by next week.

I was in the seats, but as soon as NIN came out, everyone stood up. I was glad because it felt really akward sitting during QOTSA and Autolux. I felt sorry for any short people behind my 6'5" ass, but I had to see too!

The show was SO SO SO great. I had one of the best times of my life - even without getting into the soundcheck (I will cry alone later... hee hee) but sugarplum and I had our trent-spotting during Autolux, and we met Rob although I'm pretty sure he thought we were total geeks because he told us that the new drummers name was Scott - and lo and behold, it's nothing even close to that... oh well... I thoroughly enjoyed the show and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

and yeah, I am a magnet for tall brick-wall type dudes, but you gotta expect that when you're in the pit and not quite 5'2"... as long as I can HEAR the music, I can have an awesome time!

one guy was really nice to me and let me stand in front of him (which actually gave me a much better view for a little bit!- thank you mystery man!) which doesn't usually happen, and I was grateful. with the exception of moshy-boy (who needed to get his ass to the middle of the pit with the other drunk-ass steriod-using neanderthals rather than smacking into me and everyone else around him!) the crowd was very cool on the floor.

oh man, I'm still reeling from the excitement and DEAD TIRED at the same time. great feeling. great show. thank you!

It was the 'suprise' - but the funny thing was, Trent didn't announce anything. He didn't talk during the show, really. It was funny cuz everyone was like "Who's the drummer?"

Man, last night was my 8th time seeing NIN live, and I must say, it was by far the worst. I dont know if it was the band, the venue, or what, but the concert just didn't have "it" for myself or any of the other 7 people at all.

The drummer was pretty bad, but he'll get better.

I was SEVERLY upset with how bad the With Teth songs were live. Only was horrible, THTF was marginal, at best. I'm all about playing all kinds of live instruments, but sometimes it's ok to use the mixer board a little bit, to get those sounds that might be a little harder to copy live.

Hopefully it gets better throughout the rest of the tour.

Wow, yeah, what can I say?

This was my first NIN concert, and I thought it was amazing. We were on Jeordie's side, as well, at least, I'm pretty sure. Aaron didn't seem to have a side, he was everywhere. Actually, if the crazy moshing guy had long hair and a grey shirt, it was probably me, so sorry in advance if I intruded on anybody. We were pretty close to the stage, and everybody was moving for Nine Inch Nails. When the projector was down, everyone took the time to chill a little bit, but it was cool looking behind at all of the lighters, wow. I thought Reptile sounded cool with the fuck ups. It almost sounded intentionally different, and I liked it. The sound was phenomenal. I wasn't disappointed by any of the songs, and sang every word. My voice is still recovering. Also, it got nuts in my part of the pit for THTF and HLAH. By the end of the concert, I had lost my flannel shirt, almost one of my shoes (How do you lose a pair of high top chucks?), my pants ripped half way up my legs, and my shirt was completely drenched. Totally worth it.

As for Autolux, I enjoyed them. I liked what they were trying to do, and I think that they have potential. Their set could've been a little rearranged, it seemed like it took a while to gain momentum. They should've played some of the groovvier/faster songs first. I like the weird feedback noises.

Queens did a really good performance. Definitely very tight. I'd agree that there was an audience mismatch, but whatever. Actually, while waiting in line, one of the security guys pointed out some girl in an orange hoodie and said something about everyone else wearing black, or something.

All in all, I'd have to say this show was amazing. The energy was there, and I'm still sore. It's a good pain. Really.

Oh, and whoever said they got the drum stick, I must've been right next to you, or not too far.

I know this is late and all but I just got caught up with this thread and I couldn't help myself.

I guess I should write about the show, eh? Unfortunately, I couldn't get there any earlier than right before Autolux's performance because I had to wait for the man to get off of work. So, no getting to meeting Trent and co. I'll try to restrain myself from killing the boyfriend in his sleep for that one.

Autolux... I have mixed feelings about. I kind of dug their performance but they seemed like one of those bands that gives out a great performance if their audience is into it and a medicore one if they aren't. So, maybe it was the vibe of the crowd but it just seemed like they couldn't care less. A shame, really.

Qotsa were great. I know a lot of you thought Josh was an ass with his jokes but I dug it. I was in the seats (sec. 102, row A/B... long story) and it looked like the crowd got more into the set after he fucked around with them a bit. I am sure he was frustrated but I think he also kept a good sense of humor about it (ex. when he was talking about how everyone was there for NIN). If it weren't for that, I don't know that the crowd would have shown ANY interest. But like I said, it looked like the crowd got into it more during the last two or three songs.

NIN, as usual, were great. I think I am going to be in the minority when I say that I thought their first Congress show was better. Understandably so, what with Alex having his debut performance last night. I thought he MAYBE effed up a little bit but I was so into it that I couldn't be sure and really didn't notice it. I think it took a set of big, brass balls to get out on stage with NIN after one rehersal and perform in front of what could arguably be one of the most intense NIN crowds in the nation. Credit where credit's due, ya know?

On an aside, I did a bit of reading up on qotsa last night and read that Josh Homme and Jeordie had a side project together called "headband". And Dave Grohl did the drumming on one of the qotsa records. Kind of interesting to see how that all ties in with the current state of NIN. Hell, we could easily start playing "Six Degrees of Nine Inch Nails".

ok. so for the guy that said the spiral was a waste of money.. me and my girlfriend got there at like 2.30 and got in line for the spiral. we were about the 20th in line.. and we waited around for about 2 hours.. and a guy came out and began to let people in.. he let about the 1st 25 in, me included, and took us in for the soundcheck.. we got in just in time to see them finishing up "suck" and trent saying "and you guys got here just in time for the end".. and we were all pretty freaked out that we were sitting there watching the band play like that.. and then the band comes down and signs autographs and shit.. and yeaaaaaa.

i got everyone's autograph, and we then got to come down to the stage early before they let everyone else in so we were guarenteed great spots on the floor. i was against the wall the entire show and feel that my 60 bucks was VERY well spent.

edit: also, i dont know if anyone else saw this (or if it's already been mentioned) but from where i was standing during the show, i could see that alex had a big white sheet of paper to the right of him that, from what i can tell, had like.. the drum lines written down on them.. in case he forgot his place or something. after everysong, a guy would pull the sheet down and the next song would be on there. im actually pretty impressed that he did as well as he did, as he was still reading from the script, if you will.

Hey Crackityjohn, now I can match a name to the face. How did your girlfriend fare down on the floor? Great picture. This was my first NIN concert and I love it. I was able to get in to the sound check , which was unbelievable and get everybodies autograph (which is already framed). I'm already looking for tickets to other shows. My only reget is that I had reserved seats in 102 and it seemed that people around me weren't that into the concert. The couple next to me left after the QOTSA set. Huh, what up with that. Next time I want to be on the floor.

Show was AMAZING. I was surpised by Reptile and found nothing wrong with it, though the lights in that song were pretty blinding. I loved when Burn started, and no one around me could tell what it was and I was screaming "BURN!!" it was fucking amazing. Autolux was boring, way to many bands sound like that. And Queens!? HORRIBLE! The singer is a fucking frat boy telling stupid jokes, the only thing that made me smile was when he kept going 'wooo... nine inch nails!' and their intro was kinda funny, with 'whose afraid of the big bad wolf?' The video during Eraser was amazing. Pinion made me want to die it was so amazing, Ive been wanting to see NIN for the past 5 years, and when all the lights went out, and i hear Pinion building up, it was the most amazing thing ever.

And person who asked what song that was in the middle of Closer, it was The Only Time.

QOTSA: I though Josh's voice was dead on. He sounded that good. A good mix from their catalog.

NIN: FUCKING AMAZING! This is my 1st NIN concert, so my opinion might be skewed a bit. But they sounded awesome, and Trent was really getting into his performance physically and vocally. The energy in the stadium was nuts, and I hope the band picked up on that.

Besides I'd take a fucked up version of Reptile over Starfuckers any day.

to be honest i thought qotsa were the best opening act trent has ever picked.

now granted they were mighty monotonous to the point i thought they played a couple songs they jsut played earleir in the show, and the singer was whiny as fuck, but otherwise a decent rock band. i wouldnt buy the cd cause i d get sick of it in a week but opening act not so bad.... although he talked way too freakin much about people not liking them and all that self deprecating crap

im actually a fan of QOTSA.. but primarily, not their recent album.. im a big fan of 'rated r' and 'songs for the deaf'. their new album is boring.. and they pretty much focused mainly on playing songs from it.. but it was obvious the rest of the venue wasnt enjoying their set. from where i was.. i looked like the only one that was enjoying them at all. everyone else stood around pretty blankly. the same can be said about autolux. i think that obviously nine inch nails' audience isnt really the place for them.. but having heard their cd before seeing the show, i was actually very impressed. i think that they sounded very good and didnt get the appreciation they deserved (which probably was the reason they did a 30 minute set). they're music is good in a subtle way.. but im also a big fan of feedback manipulation (as long as sonic youth isnt doing it.)

Between the couple that left before NIN started and couple that kept going in and out thier seats much to the annoyance to those around them. There were others around me acted like statues. I missed Autolux due to traffic. I entered midway of Queen. They were okay for a couple of songs I listened too but they got on my nerves. Sorry, I hate PLAIN ASS ROCK MUSIC WITHOUT ELECTRONICS. I wish Trent would pick a Synth Rock band for opening acts.

Overall, the show was okay. The Fragile era was better. Something seemed off. I can't say it was the new drummer. He was working it (or at least the best way he could). Everything just seemed so mild for some reason. Trent didn't get wild enough for me like in the clips of the Denver show. And I am not sure I am liking this Aaron North person. I could hardly hear the keyboards from section 115. And when I did, the playing wasn't all that great to me. I like Charlie Clouser a whole lot better. Jeordie played will like stiff old man. Trent, like I said, wasn't all that into it.

The only person that made NIN Nine Inch Nails was Alessandro. His ass was animated and flying around like a squirrel on crack. I think most of the time I was wathing Alessandro, not Trent. I mean, that dude fucking hyped up!!!!!! His ass works for his money. Jeordie acts like Trent is paying him $5 on stage...and so does that Aaron dude. Alex, the drummer, even if he made mistakes for his first night trying to do a rush job learning his beats, he still worked for his money, too.

umm... Alessandro was playing keyboard.. and he stayed in one spot the whole night. arron was playing guitar and he was kicking ass.. he actually almost nailed a stagehand at the end of the show with a thrown guitar.

QOTSA is not for NIN fans. They are a little harder for alternative rock but they are nowhere near the genre of music as NIN. But I am happy I went to THIS Chicago concert than the one in Spring. Because I would have been fucking pissed off at Trent for making listen to stupid ass Dresden Dolls. That fucking way off from NIN as you can get. I don't want to listen to circus music before a NIN show.

Like I said, Trent needs to pick a synth pop/rock band for opening acts because people who like NIN basically like synth rock music in the first place. NIN fans may have a wide range of taste as for music but basically we are not big time metal nor alternative rock fans. We got a little industrial in us, regardless that NIN strayed from Industrial-influenced music a little bit. But still, Trent needs to remember where his fans largely came from. Don't give us opening acts that sound like they would open up for Green Day.

If that was Aaron his hair was sure ass long. Which makes me believe that was not Aaron because his hair in many photos is quite short. Aaron does not have shoulder lenght hair. Only Jeordie and Alessandro got it.

I was saying the same thing that you just said as I walked into the Congress on the first night. I was dreading listening to that crap and then I paid attention to their performance. They truly do have a stage presence which keeps your attention. Then to hear Amanda's voice? Like her music or not, you gotta admit that she's a great singer. And the fact that they covered "War Pigs"? They got the respect of much of the crowd based on that alone.

A few weeks later, I found sone of their tracks (specifically "Coin Operated Boy" and "Good Day") stuck in my head. I bought their album from iTunes and it blew me away. Trent successfully converted this fan into being a Dresden Dolls fan.

I saw Dresden Dolls on Jimmy Kimmel show about 3 months prior to Trent announcing that they were going to tour with NIN. When I saw them on Jimmy Kimmel, I laughed at the two man band with Cirque du Soleil Unplugged music. I was not impressed.

I gotta disagree with you about opening bands. Personally, I love watching them. Sure, some may not be to your liking but I've also gotten into several of them, too. In Trent's case, almost all of his opening bands he's personally selected because he likes them (iirc, he didn't select APC on the Fragility tour). He's trying to expose his fans to music he thinks is cool while helping out a smaller band in the process. I fail to see how this is a bad thing.

1.) the cunt that we saw in the parking lot before we went in, she was a bitch. and most importantly,
2.) the two cunts that said 'fuck hurt' and 'this song(hurt) can seriously go fuck itself'. fuck them. yeah i know its a nin staple and to some it could get stale, but its a damn good song (like the rest) and it means alot to trent. so by them saying that. arent they kinda saying, go fuck trent and trent can go fuck himself, or fuck trents feelings or something to that effect?

I thought the show was excellent. I enjoyed Autolux, especially the last two songs in their set - and I like their drummer a lot.

I thought QOTSA was fun to watch but they really need to chill out with the false endings on like every fucking song.

NIN was amazing. This was only the 2nd time I'd seen them & the first from the pit and it was awesome. I didn't realize who was drumming until I got back home but I thought he kicked ass. Only thing I was disappointed in was that I couldn't see the visuals projected on the curtain all that much but that was my own fault for being on the security barricade and off to the side. Highlights for me were Love Is Not Enough (although I wish that one wasn't behind a curtain), Burn, Eraser, Sin and The Hand That Feeds. Also, I didn't even recognize Only until he started singing, that shit sounds crazy live... All in all probably my favorite show ever.

Autolux was quite boring and Queens were o.k. NIn rocked though, but seeing them at the congress a few months ago was way better. The screen thingy was pretty fucking cool like when eraser was building and then in beside you in time when the screen went from all cloud stuff to fuzzy particles and then trent hit the curtain and they showed themselves. I agree that Reptile did sound kinda weird and the highligts were Frail/Wretched best I,ve seen or heard, Eraser, and Beside you in time. A little disapointed that the set-list is not changing much.

First off, a big fuck you to the designers of the Illinois tollway! We got fucked into paying three extra tolls while we got lost on the way to the arena. Nothing like paying for someone elses mistake! (end of rant)

Anyway, the show was of decent par. Nowhere near the calliber of the Fragility tour though. I find it interesting to read these articles of Trent saying that he doesn't fear playing live like he used to. I think he was better when he was afraid;)

I was a bit disappointed with the visuals. The scrim curtain/projector combo was a bit of a throwback to the self-destruct tour days, and the stock footage was pretty old hat. Although the bush footage really got the crowd reved, I could really have done without it. Not that I like bush or anything, but that kind of crap just cheapens the performance.

The mishapen video screens made me laugh a bit. "Live, WITH TEETH" indeed;). The combo of the projector with the screens, to me was the only interesting part of the show visually.

As far as band performance was concerned, Jeordie was the only member that didn't appear to just be going through the motions. He was all over the place reving the crowd up. Bravo Jeordie. I saw the drummer and was like, "Is Josh Freese wearing a wig?" LOL didn't find out it was someone else until I got home.

I don't know, the show was... okay. I miss the old band. I could have down without all of the new stuff. I doesn't mix well with the rest of the catalog. Although Love is Not Enough sounded okay live. Better luck next album, Trent

aaron north is an acrobiatch. alessandro, i think, proved himself friday, spot on. jeordie plays bass, and hes good too. i was kinda upset that we didnt get too see what the show was really supposed to be like (deep, down in it, etc.) but thats just how the cards were dealt. in all honesty, i think the lights for queens were alot better than their performance, he kept deep throating the mic, like ruthenium. autolux didnt really seem to play to the crowd. if they had qotsa's presence they would have been more appreciated by the crowd. i think i would have rather seen saul williams open up. there, my feelings from the first part of the show.
anyway, fuck that guy.

Started in high school with the 20 holed Doc Martins, black leather with NIN scrawled in white paint at the bottom, post Pretty Hate Machine pre Downward Spiral. Ahh those were the days...anyhoo have seen them live several times, first time with Marilyn Manson in 94 and the last being Friday in Chicago. Throughout the years the only thing that remains a constant with NIN is that Trent is the soul of the "band" and no matter if he is sober, drunk, or dead he puts on one fucking great live show, never dissapoints me. I felt like the show was short but maybe that is cause I did not want it to end, it felt that way at the Congress in May too, and it ended so abrubtly, but I think that was the point like putting an exclamation point on the concert. Great show, hope I dont have to wait till I am 40 to see another............Bu Bye all

Good show. But, then again, all of the shows they play are good. This is only my 3rd time seeing NIN.... but every time, it seems to be the same show... The setlist hasn't had any major changes from 5 years ago. This show was better than Chicago last may (even though I got to meet Trent and Jeordie at that show)... but this show did NOT live up to the show I saw 5 yrs ago in Madison on the Fragility v2.0 tour. So... this one gets 2nd place in my book.
But I do think seeing NIN is much better in an arena than in a club

Posted here is a screamingly pretentious review of Friday's show. It is 3:30AM Monday.
The last time Trent Reznor brought his show to a Chicago audience he was dressed in white—a symbol of his newfound sobriety. Discarding his idyllic garment, the Nine Inch Nails auteur stepped onto the Allstate Arena’s stage with his head shaved, shoulders exposed, clad in characteristic blacks and grays. It was, of course, more characteristics of the kind of lyricist who pens lines such as “ my head is filled with disease, my skin is begging,” or “I will let you down . . . make you hurt.” But given the man’s newfound clarity resulting from trading in drugs and alcohol for pull ups and vigorous recording habits, one could easily discern that Reznor’s deliberately dark art communicated more than it had in past outings last Friday night.
Marked by solipsism and internal violence that became physical onstage, past records were offered sympathy and catharsis to record buyers seeking retreat from an animalistic landscape. In 2005, the landscape has only worsened. World leaders have dragged two countries into a war with neither the public’s consent nor a legitimate excuse. Patriotic non-sequitors have replaced rational thought. Gas prices continue to soar. Sons and daughters continue to kill and die on foreign soil, and those who are willing to articulate opposition without inciting further hysteria are few and far between. Even the most commercial artform that has in the past been a megaphone for public protest has now been cheapened and prostituted to the point where people purchase singles for their ipod, not albums for their record player. And even the singles are more important for their accessibility as a ring tone rather than accessibility to one’s world.
Where Trent Reznor’s oeuvre had previously drowned you in aural environments that could cradle or crush according to the man’s whims he’s now reduced his little sound sculptures to their more operative elements and now seeks to convey something more substantial than he has in years past. Approaching the crowd as someone who’d survived a past where romanticizing self-destruction and alienation was as closest a body could come to fulfillment; Reznor stared down those in attendance, listing all we worship, hate, the people we can still embrace and those whose physical presence is forever gone, asking “and you’re really all alone?”
Still moving further, a silk screen descended showing images of predatory violence and images of war, one of the 90’s central musical figures looked back on ten years of his life in the world, and decided it was time to take part in it. The show ended with a twin punch of existential empowerment. Head Like A Hole, the audience was well familiarized with, but after images of our president dancing, laughing while young men ran into one another with tanks and bombs, guns and hate, The Hand That Feeds, written earlier this year was presented. Making it clear that we were not separate from the world but a part of it, and it was ours to take back Reznor left ten years of alienated agony and encouraged his legion of followers to do the same with one question: “do you wanna change it?”

The show was amazing!
I had been waiting so long to see the screen with the projection,and it was great.
The new drummer,in my mind was good I didn't notice any fuck ups,but then again that could be because I was too into the music screaming the lyrics and headbanging.
I think I pissed of Jeordie because I was trying to get his attention so while he was looking my way i flipped him off with both hands,expecting him to smile or flip me off in return but instead he just shook his head and started playing again.

Anyways,the cops there sucked.
Security was nice and gave me a pick.

A girl standing there got her poster signed cuz it was her bday. She was Then the nice sound/security dude got used picks off the bus and gave them out to a few folk. Yeah! Even though I don't play guitar, it's cool to have.

The spiral tickets were bad ass (the ACTUAL tickets...silver nin stamp and cool colors). I went to the Chicago and Detroit shows and to my surprise the Detroit show did not sell as well but the crowd was incredible. Mind you I walked out of the Chicago show and was thinking...no way will tomorrow's show be this good, but WOW the Detroit fans were all about it. Chicago, they killed you during Hurt, it sounded like everyone was singing in the whole place. Incredible. I've seen NIN 4 times now and I've never heard Trent talk this much...he seemed to be really happy with the crowd in Detroit. I caught a drumstick in Detroit and saw some lucky fan being escorted out with half-of a smashed guiter...couldn't tell if it was Aaron's or Trent's...way to go man...

This trip around we took a different approach. Today we were to get up, drive to Chicago and have little time between our arrival and going to the show. We arrive about 4:30 and check into the hotel, take a cab the mere ¾ of a mile to the venue and scout out some places to eat before the doors open at 6:00.

We had seats this time (great ones at that- Thank you siNNer) since Amy is now 7 months along. We arrive at Allstate Arena about 30 minutes early and realize just how cold a Chicago October is. Unbeknownst to us we end up in the “Spiral Entrance” line and head over to another entrance because of our lack of membership.

Once inside we settle into our front row seats in section 110. We have a perfect view of the stage and are nearly eye level to it. For the two opening acts we have virtually no one around us and I am contemplating how much room I am going to have to go nuts once NIN comes out. I like to watch people and the interactions going on. On the floor I pick out people I hope will survive. The two most notable: The kids standing on the security barrier in the pit with his unrolled/un-tubed lithograph with a look on his face as if he is going to go to sleep or vomit at any moment (I’m not sure which), and the girl in stiletto heals walking around the pit as if she was out for a day at the mall.

Regarding the opening acts I came to a conclusion that Nine Inch Nails must be one of THE hardest bands in the world to open for. Even with a nationally known act like Queens of the Stone Age the reaction from the crowd was nil.

Autolux:
Autolux gave a pretty good performance, I think they still have a bit of anxiety for being out in front of a crowd this large, opening for a band this big, but it didn’t phase them one bit. They went out played there set and were given a polite applause upon their departure.

Queens of the Stone Age:
Queens of the Stone Age really didn’t get the response that frontman Josh Homme wanted. His constant whining to the audience about “no one likes us” or “they think we suck” coupled with the oh so captivating “dancing partner” and “dick sucking” comments overshadowed any playing they did. At one point I heard someone behind me in the crowd yell “Shut up and Play!” They did have a few fans in the audience that I could see were giving 100% back to them, but as a whole- in Chicago- Insulting the crowd to get something back didn’t seem to work well at all.

The show starts with “Pinion” with the lights up, once again I’m nearly the only one in my section standing (I’m really not so sure why this is so difficult, the pre-music goes away and “Pinion” is starting- now is a good time to get up off your ass!) Considering that it “hits” just as the lights go out. Into “Love Is Not Enough” and I’m jamming. At this point all those vacant seats around me have been filled and I have about a 2-½ foot space to work in. Thank God for the rail in front of me to hold onto since I was really unable to jump around! “Wish” starts and the Pit goes mad. From my vantage point I get a birds-eye view of the stage and the pit. People are already being pulled out left and right; it seems hot and cramped down inside.

“Terrible Lie” brings the crowd even higher, and it seems to have even more people singing that I can recall at any of the (4) NIN shows I have been to. The older material was perfectly balanced in the set tonight, as the vast majority of the people around me were not very “With Teeth” educated. This shown clear when “The Line Begins to Blur” was played and the section got a bit “quiet” and then burst back into full attack mode when “March of the Pigs” started! To me this was the end of “Act 1” so to speak. The crowd is exhausted already and the tide turns slowing it down to “The Frail.” When it came on I knew what was up next was fully anticipating “The Wretched.” Onward to “Closer” and I have to give Chicago crowds a lot of credit. Usually, when “Closer” gets played the noise level in the particular venue from the crowd jumps from 10 to 20, in Chicago the noise level went from 10 to 12. Not so many “Closer fans” in the crowd tonight. People around me who had not seen the club tour nor heard any of the recordings from it were gleefully surprised at “The Only Time Breakdown” during the song.

Continuing to build up next was “Burn” and as I heard the first notes of the song I couldn’t wait for it to start. As usual the song kicked my ass and I had a hell of a time singing back every lyric. Up next was “Gave Up” and I told the fan next to me “Watch this, when the lights come up that whole pit is going to go fucking crazy” and it did. People were absolutely slamming down inside and it was a wondrous sight from slightly up above. This seemed to end “Act 2” and once again we slowed down for the screen to move into place and “Eraser” starts to play.

Throughout “Eraser” Right Where It Belongs” and “Beside You In Time” images were constantly playing while the band played behind the curtain. From where we were standing the curtain was not fully closed and Trent was standing right where we could see, it was cool to be able to watch the imagery as well as glance back down to see the actual performance as well. The crowd reacted well to the imagery, and cheered loudly when the monkey caught the bird as well as booed when the image of President Bush and his wife appeared on screen dancing.

After the three more mellow songs “Sin” kicks in and the crowd once again ramps back up to be rewarded with its final beating. “Only” was the first time I had heard it live and it was powerfully played, but wasn’t one of the songs I enjoyed most. On the heels of that was my now solidified, favorite live NIN song “Reptile.” I heard it played live in Chicago on 5/6 and was blown away the power of that song as it fills the venue and swallows you. It is unable to be repeated by listening to a recording or the studio version.
And although some people are complaining about a few missed beats, it was still a stellar performance of the song! Since I was up in the seats the only thing I could do was to stomp and bang on the rail and stand up on it while screaming back. I stomped so hard during “Reptile” my boot came untied and I spent the first few moments of “Suck” tying it up!

After “Reptile I was actually winded. When “Suck” started I jumped up as quickly as possible and joined back into the melee. The four-song stint seemed to go by too fast (Sin to Suck) and it was onto “Hurt” Once again the crowd mellows a bit and the lighters come out for a phenomenal rendition of the song. Most people are probably contemplating that this is the end of the set when “The Hand That Feeds” and “Head Like a Hole” are waiting up Trent’s sleeve to finish us off.

The show went by so fast that when the lights came up I thought they must have been trying to find the guitar that Aaron tossed into the crowd. For a moment I thought, “There is no way the show is over!” The masses down below begin to face the exits and make their exodus out of the venue. As I wasn’t counting the songs I was sure their had to be at least a 3 song encore coming. But it was not to be.

Trent and Co. Gave a balls out performance tonight. I’m always impressed every time I get to see the band live. The crowd was great; they were fully into the show and gave back what was being given on stage. We got a few “Thank You’s” from Trent but not too much ad-libing tonight. Trent was there to offer up a stellar performance and meant business!

I have heard a lot of people bitching about how “the drummer fucked up Reptile and Closer and…..” All I can say is that this is a live performance and things are not perfect as they are in the studio. This is not a controlled environment. There are no second or third or fourth takes so that it can be just the way the artist wants it. Alex started with the band 18 HOURS before this show. 18 HOURS! As Trent said, I think he did a hell of a job getting down what he did. To anyone bitching about it, stay home next time and leave the show to people who can forgive a slight mis-step, a bad note, a botched lyric and still say that the show was as great as it was!

I thought the way they used the screens was really cool, like during The Line Begins to Blur. I dunno what he's talking about.

i was one of those guys (i thought the only one!)- on the left side behind his "dancing partner" toward the center of the crowd... the funny thing is, i don't know any queens of the stone age songs (except the one radio song everyone knows!)... i just thought they were good (and felt bad for them- chicago creowds are notoriously harsh and zombie-like for opening bands)

he did do a great job considering, i do have to say... but reptile WAS noticably fucked up. it's easy to blame him because he stopped after the first chorus for a measure, but i think the whole band was messed up... jeordie was by the drums for a second, aaron was by the keyboards, trent looked (more) pissed- but like you said there are no second takes and the band recovered admirably.

ps- it was aaron who threw the guitar after the show...

...And I'm sure that the moment you yelled that, they improved immediately. Yelling to a band that they suck, etc. doesn't benefit anyone at all. I think it's obvious you have never played in a band yourself before, or you might have a bit more respect for the work that goes into putting on a good show. If you don't like them, don't go see them again.

I thought it was a great show myself. Queens of the Stoneage weren't "bad", I just don't like their music. lol NIN rocked. The only thing I could have asked for was a longer show... not that this wasn't long enough. They just have so many more songs I would have loved to hear.

Someone stated about people off of the floor not being into it.

I moved up so I'm not sure what section I was in (about 111, maybe 5 rows back) but I was NOT standing still EVER!!! I don't comprehend how you can listen to NIN and stand still but that's just me.

Billy Corgan on the side of the stage - I'm sorry but who cares. I cannot stand the guy, he whines when he sings and it's (in my opinion) annoying as all hell.

The show was FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC and so was the set list!!! I've seen NIN many times through the years and this one of the best (if not the best) performance I have seen by Trent and Co.

Trent looked great and I have to give the new drummer credit, the set was not the easiest to learn and play in 24-48 hours of practice.

The band had practiced the night before with new drummer at midnight at allstate. exhaustion. the show was amazing, as someone who was around for the first tour in 90' reznor only gets better. Aaron North was great, and so was everyone else. Queens was good, maybe a bit flat, but still by all standards really good. one person stopped the show and Josh handled him wiht humor. pretty funny. hysterical actually. Autolux...........well.....not sure on them yet.

alright i've waited too long to post this since it's been quite two months to the day of the show, but i can't just read all these posts slamming autolux and not reply.

first off, let me preface this by stating that i flew all the way from texas to see the show -- i'd never been to chicago, so i figured "what the hell?" one of my best friends flew in from vegas to meet me since he'd never been there either. while i have to say that we bought both plane and concert tickets wanting to see nails, they were by no means the sole reason to see the show. this leads me to the purpose of the post....

autolux fucking rocked (and continues to rock). i say this without hesitation and aimed directly at all of you who say they were horrible, sucked, etc. i always find it terribly ironic that you, who blindly follow trent's every word, cannot learn to appreciate the music that inspires him. say what you will about the band, you've that right, but to dismiss them totally based upon your talentless, one-track mind is ignorant. perhaps i give you too much credit in thinking you've taste in what is good. afterall, i'm sure every single one of you who is slamming the band was wearing your NIN shirt purchased from hot topic the day before or from some NIN show from way back because you're their "biggest fan" at the concert. i guess it's just me getting older and realizing the huge amount of assholes who can't appreciate an opening act that was, in fact, ASKED to be on the bill by the very band you came to cheer and clamor over. this isn't of course to say that you had to like the band, but to go on and say that they were one of the worst bands you've ever heard/seen is probably the stupidest comment to make. (user: SpriteRemixClock -- if this was only your fourth band to see live, you've absolutely NO room to draw comparisons or make predictions...i'm sure your next green day show will be much better...)

i suppose the major point i'm trying to make here is this: for those of you who can't appreciate a band for what they are, keep your sunlight-fearing, pasty goth ears glued to your nine inch nails and marilyn manson cd's -- the rest of the good-music populous who venture outside of your shallow bubble will move on.
