show was cool.
Setlist i think was identical to last nights philly show with even deeper and dead souls inserted.

Unlike alot of people i heard talking i quite liked dfa and quotsa, dfa for 2 people man get some cool shit out.

QOTSA lead singer went off on some guy who said they sucked in the crowd, quite funny. Made references to the man having aids "no seriously, aids!"

When nin first got on stage during "love is not enough" the screen didn't go up and than for march of the pigs the screen was kind of up than down up than down. So the part in march of the pigs "and doesn't it make you feel better" trent made a comment to the extent of "ya know what would make me feel better? punching the guy who does the screens in the face a few times" not word for word but that was the gist of it.

Crowd where i was at was real active, but i can't really attest to much more than that.

had a great time, hope someone can give you all a better review.

well this finished my 3 shows in 4 nights. i had front row seats for this one, but it wouldnt have mattered anyway cuz it looked like they only sold lik 1 fourth the of the venue.
same setlist as philly, minus something i can never have.
trent got mad at the curtain operator as mentioned before.
also after one of the first couple songs trent said, "thank you, we are spinal tap" or thats what i thought he said...
all in all it was a great show like always.

I'm too tired to write anything else right now, but something needs a definite comment... This was, hands-down, the least-smelly pit I've ever been in. Seriously. Honest to god. Of any show I've ever seen, in any location anywhere. I was shocked. It's clear you folks up in Wilkes-Barre are "sure," because I had no problem with everyone throwing their hands up.

Bumblefuck, PA has some awesome dance clubs.

Wish they would have JD playing. TR is a cheap motherfucker. Jerome will be eating an Apple soon though.

i would have to assume that this was one of the shows with the worst ticket sales because the entire back was practically empty, along with the upper levels. i'd like to thank trent for even playing here because it is the closest he has played to my hometown since i was too young to go to a nin concert. after a 21 hour day yesterday for the philly show, it was nice to have to travel less than 2 hours to get from my hometown to the next show. i would have liked to show up early enough for the soundcheck, but i simply needed sleep, so i missed out on that. i enjoyed the show, and i felt bad for the band when that curtain started coming back down at the wrong time...they are on stage kicking ass and some dumbass doesn't know how to operate the curtain. i would have liked to hear "with teeth", but i can't complain...it's been a fantastic weekend. i think hearing "the collector" live has made me like the album version more.

what was played at the soundcheck and was there a meet and greet? like i said, i couldn't get there early enough.

There was no meet and greet, just soundcheck. They played:

The Frail/The Wretched
Deep
Wish

Too bad there was no meet and greet, I was kinda sad...but I can't complain, I got into soundcheck!

It's past 4:30 am here, and I can't make coherent thoughts, but suffice it to say that the show was kick-ass as usual! More detail tomorrow! Nite!

That was fun, but I'm a bit disappointed that Spinal Fucking Tap didn't play my fave tune, "Big Bottom." Bastards.

Awesome show. NIN kicked ass, and I met a lot of really nice people. But the arena was so empty. The whole back and upper levels were totally deserted. It was really disappointing.

Does anyone have an extra litho they'd like to sell? I left the arena last night in such a tired state that I completely fucking forgot to stop and buy one. I'd really appreciate it.

Quick notes for now.

Crew fucked up raising the curtain during You Know What You Are? It stopped halfway up, dropped back down, finally got raised during 2nd chorus. During MOTP Trent cursed out whoever was in charge and said punching him in the face again and again would make him feel better.

Deep (in soundcheck) is fucking AMAZING! Holy shit I love that song now.

i know!!! compared to msg, and phlly. it was strange going to see them with noone there, but my friend and i agreed that they didnt tone it down at all. i was also glad that they didnt play a shorter set or anything, though i would have liked to hear Deep.
i really hope they tour again soon, i dont think there is any other band i really like seeing live, or that i would go see more than one show.

All I can say is that you've never truly lived until you've moshed it up with meathead, Anita, nothoney, Athenia Animus, and Violent_n_Delicious and her crew to THTF and HLAH. If I had more space I would have added that this show was one of the best I've been to setlist-wise, and I would have gone on more about Alex's drumming. I know it's kind of a dead horse around here, but I was really disappointed. He sounded like a filler - not to diss or anything, but I totally know drummer friends who can play like every NIN song flawlessly. Again, not to say he wasn't good - I just would have expected more.

Anyway, enjoy the review, I loved the show.

Oh, and Dorna (am I spelling that correctly?), if you read this, shoot me a PM. I thought you guys were going to come to the super awesome dance club with us last night but I guess you took off before I had a chance to say goodbye.

Well, there certainly are a lot of opinions flying around these boards, aren't there?! And, since I was in Wilkes-Barre last night, I get to throw my thoughts into the mix.

I'm old (and there were A LOT of older people there last night). My first NIN experience was in NYC in '89, and my first comment is that the performance now is a lot less dangerous.

I thought that the curtain problem during LINE kind of enhanced the performance, since it created some interesting backlighting and shadow effects during what would otherwise have been a standard "five guys playing their instruments" scene. And when the curtain went up, down, and up again on YKWYA, I could see Reznor snap. I thought - and hoped - that he would take that aggression out on the set, the instruments, and the performance. Unfortunately, the most he could muster was dropping a keyboard and tossing a guitar.

I absolutely loved the musical performance, but I think they could have benefitted from sequencing the show differently, especially in a town like Wilkes-Barre, which was definitely "hit" oriented. I thought the crowd lulled from Closer through Dead Souls. Songs like The Collector and Only would probably be better placed near the beginning of the set.

Nobody has mentioned that they played Gave Up, a favorite of mine that I hadn't noticed on many of the set lists I've seen.

And, production, new drummer, or not (I've seen the arguments), NIN could certainly take a page from the Cure's book and change the set list every night. It would make it a heck of a lot more thrilling for people traveling to NY, Philly, and Wilkes-Barre and the only difference being SICNH, Dead Souls, or Gave Up. But what the fuck do I know?

I guess I will always miss the edge of seeing the band adjust when Trent would actually succeed in ripping the guital out of (Richard's, Robin's, insert guitar player's name here) hands or knocking him on his ass. It was theatrical, yes, but the energy and aggression were sincere and tangible. Knowing the whole thing could implode at any moment made the great musicianship that much more impressive.

That said; it was great to see them only 45 minutes from my current home, after spending years traveling to see them.

And they WERE excellent.

Were you up against the rail or no? I'm wondering if you were the dude to the right of me or the one that was directly behind me; both were taking photos. I was the tallish girl against the rail with black hair & lip ring. Not that it matters, I'm just being a nerd.

NIN put on a great show even though the place was half empty (half full, if I was an optimist). The WB crowd was a lot younger than in previous shows. I thought the pit would be crazy given this, but it really wasn't.

I was, again, on Aaron's side. He came on stage with black make-up on his eyes and was as animated as ever. Also, at the end of the show, he unplugged his guitar and jumped off stage to give it to a blonde girl in the front row.

I'm sure Trent's seeking resumes to fill the now-open "curtain-lifter" position.

Waiting outside for the soundcheck sucked because it was so damn cold. But, as with other shows, the company made it a lot easier to bear.

DP, it was nice to meet you and your friends.

Oh, and thanks E-Quilizer for giving us your floor bands. Too bad we were denied by the senior patrol.

Hey! What an amazing show.. 3rd time seeing them (94, 99 prior) and they destroyed, as promised. I can't believe that there were so many ETS'ers in front of Aaron - cuz so was I! (Blue Shirt, Black knit hap until nails came on) At the end I accidentally grabbed Aaron's wrist while he was giving the guitar to that lady.. then I was slapped on my wrist by her friend because I touched the guitar for a sec. What the hell did they think, that I was gonna bolt with it?
Was the first 'arena' show in a long time where I thought that most in the crowd were very cool, friendly and respectful of others. It was tight up front of course, but well worth any pain.
Observation: I thought that TR was extremely impersonal with the crowd. Saying thanks a couple of times, was nice. In the previous shows I'd been too, he practically was stroking the audience by saying things like, "well, I thought about giving up this tour, cuz we play the same shit every night, but TONIGHT, something happened...." etc. Not that it's necessary, but shit, ANYTHING to acknowledge that we weren't just dollar signs would've been cool. It irked me to read that he was berrating his crew early in the tour, and last night it was the same uncomfortable feeling. NO ONE NOTICED the curtain 'issue' until he mentioned it. Maybe in his bubble of perfectionism it's hard for him to step out and realize that the little things don't always make up the big picture. It's his strident belief in perfecting his recorded and live music that is an inspiration to me as a musician and a radio producer, but I'm also aware of the "Don't Apologize on Stage" rule.
The Wilkes-Barre performance superceded any of that, though. I didn't go to watch him pontificate... I travelled from upstate NY for the unbelievable experience TR and the rest delivered.
and I'm pissed I didn't spot Meathead (if he was there) I'm just as much a fan of his commentary (and flash movies!!!)

Well, this was my last of four arena shows and I'm dead right now! I have completed my "NIN tour" and I wish I could go to more. But I am thrilled that I got to meet trent and give him a hug at MSG! Once again I have been destroyed by Trent and I am honored!

I got to meet some great members on this board as well. I'm sorry I'm too tired right now to mention names but you know who you are! *waves*

I met trent @ MSG & he was VERY VERY nice. He had over 200 people to meet with and spent a few minutes with every single person. He is far from impersonal or insincere. I just wanted to clear that up...

We traversed PA and returned to the hills. I thought western PA had the rights to the odor of cow shit, but the last 100 miles to Philly was totally ripe. My niece missed catching a water bottle that TR threw and she’s been bitching and moaning ever since. I guess her life is over now. I hope I don’t find her dangling or anything. On a happier note, she did take a few pictures at Wilkes-Barre. They are here:

Dead Souls - Wonderful, classic Joy Division song beautifully covered by Trent. I can't think of a better musician to cover this haunting song.

Thanks. In that case I suppose you'd need an exorcist and not AT&T. I never listened to Joy Division, so maybe that is the key. But hey, a fun time never the less. I wish I were heading to MA right now.

Anyway, this was my first concert ever. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The people at the Wachovia Arena are assholes but I didn't let this bother me. I was fairly disappointed that there was no meet and greet. However, the sound check was amazing. Trent was in perfect form. He got pissed about some of the things not working. He was flaming mad at the beginning of the concert. He was jumping around the stage and kicking things in anger. For example, after he got done playing "The Frail", he kicked the keyboard over. This Trent reminded me of TDS era Trent. However, once things got sorted out, he began to contain himself. I couldn't have asked for a better set list. LEA, it sucks that they kicked you out. You have to admit, however, that our seats kicked ass. I am glad I didn't go on the floor. I enjoyed it more than I would have out there. It depresses me that there were so few people at the show. I am thinking that they will probably never come back here now.

In conclusion, I can officially say that this concert changed my life. I now know what a concert experience is supposed to be like. I was saving my first experience for NIN. I can say that it was undoubtedly the best decision I have ever made.

Sorry, I only recognized Meathead. I was a bit scared to even ask if he was who he was because all day I kept messing up recognizing people. And when I finalyl called his name I really didn't know what to say, and didn't want to bother you guys. "Hi Meathead, I'm Papagolash from ETS. Ummmm you're funny. OK I'm going to akwardly walk back to the line now."

I only recognized him though, had no clue who the others were. Even when 2 girls came over to talk to us about Bobbie getting her arm possibly broken I asked if they were from ETS and they said no. Sir Meat is friggan tall, you couldn't miss him in the crowd.

Awesome show, even though the arena was really empty which was slightly disturbing. In any case TR didnt use that as an excuse to half-ass anything and my friends and I had a blast. Fucking amazing...

I had the shorter reddish hair with light ends. I pretty much stood in one spot and tried to keep dirt from blowing into my eyes.

Yes, Meathead and I were back at the hotel watching a marathon of "The Blue Collar Comedy Tour" on tv.

First NIN show. I went with a bunch of kids. Had an awesome time. We ended up staying at the holiday inn. So my plan of going to Bennigans fell through. Anyway back to the show. I though it was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t put my arms down. I got slammed around pretty hard during wish. Started getting that woozy feeling but it passed pretty quickly. Both of my shoes went missing after the first coupla songs. I didn’t see a lot of the band being a shorty. But I sure as hell heard the songs. Everything off of With Teeth was spectacular. And dead souls was a highlight for me. Well every song was great. So yeah.. I basically couldn’t have been happier. And I’m sad that it’s all over.

P.S. Thanks a million times over to Tom? that gave all of our sorry asses a lift to the show. Basically we were hiking it to the arena because we missed the cab. And we stopped at a store on the way, and there just happened to be this guy going to the show with a big ass van. Anyway thanks again for the lift dude you saved our asses big time. Expecially because one of the guys that was going messed up his leg like two days before the show and could barely walk.

P.P.S. And thanks again to the everyone that helped me locate my shoes. It would have sucked to have to drive all the way back to upstate NY shoeless. So yeah.. Thanks!

I'm not sure if I met people from ETS or not. I was wearing some ripped up jeans, studded belt and a black corset kinda looking shirt and I have dark shoulder length hair.

One thing that really pissed me off about that night was the fact that the arena was so unorganized. First of all, I don't even think they knew that the Spiral members were supposed to be let in early (Some guy at the front of the line even yelled "You lied to us!" at the bald guy who was with Brandi). Then, the arena workers kept moving us from line to line, asking for all the Premium Spiral members to get in one line. But at the same time, another guy was telling us to go in another line. It was chaos.


Eventually it all got sorted out, and the Spiral members got in about 5-10 minutes before the masses. Which was good, because then everyone had some time to check out the merch stand, go to the bathroom etc.

First of all, I had a great fucking time with all of you on the floor at this show. DANCE PARTY!!! *head bangs* The Barracade Crew was a fucking TRIP. And watching Meathead and Anita going at it and getting duuuurty on the dance floor was great!

Okay, I have two interesting stories to share with you guys in regards to traveling with TR's head in a green plaid bag.

When I was flying out of MIA, airport security pulled me to one of their side tables and asked what was in the bag and wanted me to open it for them to search. Apparently it didn't show up like something they would recognize on the x-ray. I complied and basically pulled the head out and placed it on the table in full public view. This guy passes the wand over it and asked me what it was. I thought of the fastest thing that would get me out of that situation.

"It's a face cast of a dead person. He was fam..."

Before I could even finish the sentence he told me I was okay and told me to pack my things and go.

And I thought that was good.. But then in NYC:

At LaGuardia, I went through the security screening check point and I waited for my Bag o' Trent's Head to come out of the x-ray machine. It took like 3 minutes of moving the conveyer belt back and fourth and stopping before it came out. The moment it cleared the opening a grizzly, 40+ weathered NYPD cop appeared out of NO WHERE and grabbed the bag before I even got to touch it.

"Please follow me this way."

I smirked knowing where this little confrontation was going to lead and I figured out the story I was going to tell (freshly made death mask of a beloved family member). So I didn't say anything, grabbed the rest of my shit and followed. I walked down this pathway and went into this room that had a table, a stainless steel bench, and a woman stationed with gloves on and wand at hand.

The cop put the bag on the table and asked me to unlock the bag and if he can search the contents inside. I unlocked the bag, stepped bag and said "There you are. Go nuts."

He looked up at me with the "WTF?" face and then proceeded to wave the woman over as he put on a pair of gloves. He unzipped the bag, looked a bit puzzled at the bubble wrap and the SPIN magazine (that Cliff had given to me) layed on top, pulled the top layer off and pulled out the towel.

Then he just DEAD STOP.

He stared into the bag for a little more than a minute while the women was confused as hell, looking between me and the cop.

He looked in the bag then at the magazine on the table then bag in the bag again. I will never forget what he said when he looked up at me. In a heavy New Yorker accent "What is Trent Reznor doing inside this bag????"

I swear to GOD I nearly fucking died when he recognized it. I was so totally expecting to ask me who died or what the fucking is that. But he actually fucking said that. I was so stunned that I forgot to answer him. He waved a hand in my face and said "Uh, hello?"

I proceed to explain to him what it was, where it came from, how I bought it, my trip to go see the concert in Philly and Wilkes-Barre and that I was luckily enough to have met Trent and have him sign the head. I took the head out of the bag and showed him the signature. The next thing you know he turns into my best fucking friend and a totally NIN fan geek. He proceeds to tell me that he is a huge fan and so was his son (who is a NYFD fire fighter), how long they have been fans, how he attended one or two of the club tours, how his son has every cd, how they had a fucking great time seeing them at MSG and etc. The man talked my ear off. He asked me if he could hold it and I said sure. And then he asked me if he could take a picture of it with his camera phone to send to his son. Sure, why not.

I have never meet anyone who wigged out like that. I was really suprised. So after some more nicey nicey (he told the woman to skip wanding me and searching me), I packed the head away and was allowed to leave. Even though I had an hour till my fight boarded, he insisted that he drive me to my gate in the security cart.

Totally fucking nice man. It was just to funny to see a hardened NYPD cop turn into a fanboy for a moment.

So yeah. There ya go.

did any one notice aron north playing guitar for queens of the stone age, I watched him real close he threw out some of his signature hand jestures , although his hair was diferent and he had a jacket on. im positive it was him.

Yeah, the wind sucked, I kept getting dirt blown in my eyes and lost a contact lens. I managed to not let it bother me though.

Soundcheck was awesome, everyone was so polite! I'm so glad I got to experience that.

Show was INCREDIBLE. I was on the rail in front of Jeordie the whole time. Everyone around us was cool except for one jackass dubbed "hairy arm guy" who kept trying to get up to the rail. Almost started a fight with my boyfriend, but he backed off considerably once I pointed him out to security.

I'm really sad that this is the last time I'll see them for awhile. Maybe they'll come by western/upstate ny in jan/feb? I sure hope so!

I think I was sitting by you, amendsen83, were you in the first row, Jeordie's side? I was sitting on the end by myself, my friend bailed on me 20 mins. before we were leaving.

I have to say that they sounded incredible. That place is notorious for sounding like s*it. I know they were discussing doing something to fix it, but I don't know if they did. If they didn't they should consult T. Rez on how to do it right.

The highlight for me was probably The Frail/The Wretched.

I have to laugh at everyone hating on WB ~ if you think that's bad, you should have checked out Hazleton!!!!

I saw NIN during their 2000 tour and they were great. Wilkes Barre was pretty good too, though the opening bands needed to quit.

I didn't realize Ashton Kutcherd played drums in Death From Above 1979, but he should really think about investing some of his acting money in more band members. They sounded like someone beating a bag of shit to death on stage. WE WERE ALL PUNKED!

Queens of the Stoneage were cool when I saw them during Lolla, but good lord they sucked at the Wachovia. They incomprehensibly mumbled and noised their way through their set. Josh yelled at some person who told him his band sucked, and made "your momma" and "dick sucking" jokes for ten waisted minutes of my life.

After the Queens set, everyone pretty much were mumbling under their breaths and agreeing with the "you suck guy." I have never wanted a band to quit playing so much as I did Queens... Josh was trashed and just sucked.

NIN put on a very energetic show. Trent put visuals to the reasons everyone he knows goes away in the end as he threatened the curtain wielding stage hands.

The videos he showed of war and dancing reminded me of why we fight, to defend capitalism and our wonderful lifestyles. I gave GW the ole thumbs up when it turned out to be him dancing, but my lone hand was in a scene of Hitchcock's, THE BIRDS...

All in all my ears are still ringing, but hell I was too old to be there anyway. I am glad I didn't reveal who I really was to Levi or Meat, but they wouldn't have remembered me any way...

I was sad to see the theater barely 1/2 full. I can't believe the crap I saw today known as, Trans Siberian Orchestra, has sold out that venue three nights in a row this weekend. They had like two good songs and the rest were enough to put me to sleep.

Anyways... I am doing my best to sound like a big fan boy... goodnight.

this show made the 2000 show i saw (in miami on his birthday) completely suck. that show was something like 88 minutes with a curtain call. this was longer and the music came out so much more oganic. the lights were better then, but who goes for the lights?
some girl next to me was dancing like NiN's a club band - whatever makes her happy.
"and doesn't it make you feel better? you know what'd make me feel better? finding the guy that does the curtain and beating the fuck outta him...that'd make me feel better." oddly, that was about the loudest the crowd got.
speaking of the crowd, i talked to some guys and they said since NiN was all over the area with the small tour and then in Philly the night before, it wasn't a big deal to get to this unless you were traveling like my sorry black ass. 150 minutes from ithaca, ny.
for the first time, the music AFTER the lyrics of closer easily kicked more ass than the song.

This was the first Nine Inch Nails concert I was fortunate enough to attend. I was blown away. The energy of the theatrics was so real and perfected...its indescribable. All I can say is that I hope he comes around here again very, very soon..he already sold one ticket.
