2005/12/08 - Reno, NV [Reno Hilton Theater]

everyone will write out the details, but some guy rushed the stage and attacked trent. this question is for people closer than i was- did trent punch him or just push him?

I'm way too sore and tired to post much right now. Excellent show. Nothing much to note about the setlist. Pretty standard. I was very impressed with the opening act. Glad they're from Portland as I'll be checking them out at ASAP. My first time seeing Josh drum and he was flawless. Trent and the crew were as alive as ever and really put on a nice performance.

I'd like to give a big fuck you to the worthless shit that got on stage during Starfuckers. I hope to Christ that got you arrested. You probably think you're some big cool NIN fan being a goof but you're a real piece of shit. I was embarrassed as a fan but it was great to see Trent going after a piece of you. Watched you get thrown down a few times by three security guards...looked pretty rough...made me happy.

EDIT:
Looked to me like if Trent had caught him he was going to kick his ass. He was pissed (and rightly so).

I was pretty involved holding ground during Starf*ckers INC so I guess I missed the "low-light" of the performance. Trent's not tall, but he is big up top so I wouldn't want to trade blows with him.

I was thrilled with the set and the drumming was good. I wanted to hear "Sunspots" but will only be attending this show so, serves me right.

The Reno Hilton is an enticing venue, my first time there. All red velvet and booths. Has a touch of class that NIN doesn't fit in well with.

I can't wait for an NIN post-apocalyptical tour. Seeing them in the ruins of a 20th century colliseum amongst twisted steel and busted concrete . . . anyone know the best venue for NIN?

What was up with Trent stating that they began and ended the tour in Reno? Looks like they began in Fresno and will end at the "Almost Acoustic" KROQ in LA.

trent looked startled and pissed off, probably not at the guy but at the security...in a time where people get shot and killed on stage (dimebag) i'm sure it shook him up for a second . . hopefully that guy got a beating backstage.

Another great show. The setlist was similar to the one posted in the Santa Cruz tour journal, except we also got Sin. Josh Freese kicked ass. Believe the hype. Starfuckers is not a favorite of mine, but Josh fucking killed it.

The venue was small and the pit was tiny. We were on the barricade in front of Trent. I'd have to say this pit was one of the worst for me. Some fat, drunk MF thought it would be cool to push the girl behind me all night. I'm covered in bruises.

Trent said twice that he should start and finish his tours in Reno. I hope that was a joke.

The Reno Hilton security guys were very friendly and cool, but totally not able to handle this show. The security guy in front of us could barely pick up the crowdsurfers and girls that needed to get pulled out. Several were dropped. Funny. Not to mention that they couldn't control people getting on stage. The first asshat who got up on stage was up there for a while before they tackled him. (BTW, Sweeney was not at this show). I hope someone got video of him. But just to fill you in: he gets up there, and stands beside/behind TR, and has a look on his face like "shit, I can't believe I'm up here. Shit, now what do I do?" Then he waves to the crowd, goes directly behind TR and, here's the best part, decides to rub TR's head. Fucking idiot. Trent was oblivious to him at first (or maybe thought it was Aaron), but the head rubbing got his attention. He looked pissed and went after the guy, but, finally security got involved. During HLAH, another guy got on stage but never made it past Aaron. Security tackled him quickly, but Aaron went off stage during the last minute of the song. (Maybe he was getting a few good kicks in, who knows?)

I met so many great West Coast fans and saw lots of familiar faces. Love you all, especially my new "crew."

Last, waiting around for the show was non-stop NIN sighting. Trent, Freese, Jeordie, Rob and some crew guys casually strolled in and out of Johnny Rockets, which was right next to the Spiral line, and walked around the casino. Alessandro and Aaron (separately) also were walking around all day. People, for the most part, were cool and didn't mob them.

Now, time to get the hell out of Reno...

How about a little clarification regarding the stage jumper bastard...

I saw what happened with the stage jumper during Starfuckers perfectly. Out of seemingly nowhere, this scrawny boy just apeared on stage jumping around and grinning like an idiot. Contrary to what people are saying, he didn't acutally "attack" Trent or anyone else, he was just jumping up and down, but he did grab Trent's shoulders to do so. That is when a security guard finally and completely tackled him from a running start and the force took them by the front of the drums where Trent, after a seconds delay, joined in the mad pushing (he didn't hit him though, damnit). After that he was to the side of the stage and the security had him pinned down, it looked pretty violent like the guy was trying to wriggle out. They took him away and that was that. On the Spiral someone is saying they saw the guy in the casino later bragging, but pretty much everyone hated him. I've got to say, seeing the way the security guard tackled him, and how Trent joined in, it was very entertaining!

Great show!!! We got a table right next to the soundboard and it sounded awesome, but the sound was a little clearer last March when they played there. Still one of my favorite places to see a show. Somebody wrote it is too classy for NIN to play there? WTF The acoustics are a hell of a lot better than any arena. That place was made for music!! I hope Trent doesn't get pissed off about the people jumping on stage because I want them to play here in Reno again as many times possible. I took 10 of my friends to this show and converted them into fans. PLEASE COME BACK TO RENO! COME BACK! COME BACK!!!

For clarity:

There were actually several hooligans who got on stage, 3 to be exact.
They were accessing the stage, moving behind the velvet curtains running along the wall. This allowed them to wander past security who were simply looking for people bypassing the barricade.

The first was tackled before getting to Trent, and promptly hog tied.

The second, during Starfuckers Inc., actually got to Trent. It looked as if Trent (who was busy rocking out and looking at his guitar) thought that it might be Jeordie. The goon then put his hands on Trent's head, by which time security mobbed him. It was after this that Trent realized it was not Jeordie, so he took a run at the guy. Needless to say, Trent looked very upset that someone could run on stage unabated, able to touch him or his band mates so easily.

Not sure if anyone else saw it, but during Head Like a Hole, there was one last guy making an attempt to get on stage. He got nailed before getting past Aaron. What was even more funny is that while security was tying him up, Aaron climbed on top of the speaker stack and looked down in awe while playing as Johnny Law administered justice.

Another interesting tid bit:

Aaron tried smashing his guitar at the end of the show, but to no avail. So he just threw the whole fucking thing in the pit. There must have been 20 people playing tug of war over it, for at least 5 minutes. Never did see who got it, but I can guarantee some people left unhappy.

So yah, got into Reno kinda late (5:30pm) checked in and then slowly made our way down to the line. By the time we got there, the spiral line had already gone in but we were still able to get a good spot on the second row of booth seats in front of the mixing desk. I would say that this show would have to be the best out of all of the smaller venue shows and im glad i went. Only bad thing were the two drunk idiots in front of us who kept getting in the way. The girl kept standing on her chair and at one point, the table, while her boyfriend stood up and kept flailing his arms around. I know it doesnt sound that bad but when you have been driving for three days straight and spent all this money on tickets blah blah blah, the last thing you want is two drunk ppl in front of you jumping up and down and falling on you. (oh and also, i seriously hate the "FIST" "FUCK" bootleg shirt) other then that, it was great. And a room at the Reno Hilton for only $29.99? Doesnt get any better then that!

great show, but not the best i've seen this year... i met a few cool people while waiting in line for hours (although i didn't line up at 6:00am like some crazy people...)

anyways, highlight for me was seeing Trent watching the opening act right in front of me - just thought it was pretty cool... there were a few lowlights... first, the stupid fuckers who were just shoving people around behind me, then there was the dumbass behind me that kept swinging around a ribbon or something and kept whipping me in the head/arm during most of the fucking show... then there were the assholes who thought they had a right to be on the stage and shit... oh well...

also, NO ONE got the guitar... security had to break it up and then one of them took it onto the stage... and it didn't look like Aaron was trying to smash his guitar - he was banging it around a bit to get different sounds out of it at the end of the song, and then he just tossed it (i'm sure he knew it would be a total mobscene trying to get it...)

oh and there was someone trying to sell off these really fucking ugly NIN shirts in the casino after the show- and i actually saw someone wearing one - it was probably one of the most horrible looking non-official shirts i've seen... i think they were charging $15 for them or something.. too bad i didn't get a picture of that...

I will be posting pictures at some point in the next couple of days... just got back home Friday night, and now i'm at work...

yah, the group i was trying to eat with after the show in Chevy's had to deal with these people walking around and asking if anyone wanted a shirt. They were at all three shows too, each time selling the shirt with the date for that show.

Yep, saw them at chevy's too. I have no idea how those shirts are so popular. It must be some group operation going on. They're seriously the most ugly freaking shirts i've ever seen...

I arrived in Reno around 1:30pm, aftering checking in I went to the elevator and Jeordie was standing in the middle of the elevator area floors 17-26 and I just was looking at him as it registered who it was. Then a split second later as the elevator door opened I walked towards it and Trent walked out. I thought "Oh fuck " but did not say anything. All I could do was just smile at him. He smiled but was busy talking to Jeordie who was obviously waiting on him. I could not believe that happened right when I had arrived at the hotel. But what a lovely surprise since I had flown all the way from Charlotte NC for the show.
They show was great. When the stage crasher was hanging on Trent at first TR did not pay any attention. Then he seemed to realize and he pushed the idiot really hard and then security began fighting the guy. Security was pretty shitty. At least no one hurt any of the band.
As far as Aaron's guitar, he threw it about 5 ft behind me and about 4-6 people were fighting very hard for it. Finally security and a roadie came down there and got it back.

I'd like to think I've actually kicked the NIN super flu this time, but we'll see what happens when I go back to work on Monday. That always seems to kick whatever shit is ailing me back in full force.

And yes, Josh was indeed rockin and everything is right with the world! Looking forward to the 2006 dates. Midwest in blizzard season....sounds like a party to me!

Great show, great crowd. Went to Chevy's after the show and no-one said a word for 1/2 hr - I think we were all too fried. Decided not to ask the guy in front of me when we were in line whether I could buy him a beer *cough* Didn't see the point :)

Highlight of the night? Meeting the girl who said "Wooo - Let's hear it for Nine Inch Nails, that was good!" on the HLAH CD.

Fun weekend. Met a wide range of peeps. But ow, do I ache...

Amazing, words cannot merely describe my experience in Reno but I shall try. I met up with Gunr in Houston and we flew to Reno and hung out most of the day. Wednesday at 8pm we met up with the Spiral peeps at the Gararge. We hung out, talked a bit and prepared for the next day. Gunr got on line at 7am to hold 3 places for me, my friend Carrie and Lynn, someone I met on the boards, who was flying in from Cali and going solo to the show.

Fast forward to noon. We are all in line and I decided to go to Johnny Rockets to get a grilled cheese sandwich to go. I place my order and who is entering JR from the back entrance? Rob and Trent. Trent goes to a table to sit down and Rob walks over to where I am to talk to the host about seating. Rob and I exchange hellos and then he goes to sit down. I get my food and then Gunr, Carrie and I go to the sports book to wager and wait to watch the chaos that is about to unfold. You see the Spiral line was next to the front entrance of JR and Trent so you know, I didn’t sell you out. Jeordie did, he used the front entrance! I watched Trent leave and quite a few people actually chased after him. Whatever, not for me to judge. And just in case you are wondering I did not go to the table and meet Trent.

Fast forward to sound check, okay there was no sound check, as usual for me. I am 0-4.
Oh well, at least I got to hear it.
1. Sin
2. Frail/Wretched
3. Wish

They let us in the venue and we got a front row booth almost center, directly in front of Trent, behind the pit. The venue was awesome except for two things:
1. No bathrooms inside, you had to go back into the Casino, is that even legal??
2. They seriously pat you down. I know they have to check but really?

On to the main event:
By the end if the 3rd song I was sitting dead center, in front of Trent, on a booth and I was in heaven. This is the closest I have ever been for a NIN show since I don’t do pits. And the pit was out of control.
I need to thank the blonde girl for letting me hang back in the booth with her and her friends. I was afraid the rail between the booths and pit was going to break and by the end of the night it was bent back pretty good. So thanks guys for letting me hang, I had a blast.

I met soo many great people who follow NIN all over and who have invited me but I can’t do it. I went to the Hollywood Bowl show and this show because of the uniqueness of the venue. And now after Thursday night, I will never see a better show in an arena because of the intimacy of the Reno Hilton theatre. It just doesn’t get any better then that!!!!

Carrie: My bestest friend for making my birthday unforgettable by making sure I didn’t miss out on this show. By the way she is 0-3 on sound checks.

Gunr: I am so glad we met; I would have been so bored in the boring town of Reno without you! I had a blast with you and thanks again for the guitar pic. And the airborne, you saved my life. Hehehe
I hope we meet up again soon!
P.S. My flight was delayed 30 minutes last night in Houston.

And on a side note. I was feeling sick most of the time I was in Reno so sorry if I was a little too whiny or grumpy.  But as Carrie explained to Gunr I was off my schedule.

Anyway despite feeling a bit sick, I had a great experience. I say, let’s do it again next year. How about it Trent?

I was right in front, and saw everything, except how the moron got on stage in the first place. He seemed to appear all of a sudden- I didn't see him climb on stage. He was jumping up and down beside Trent then behind Trent. Trent seemed to ignore him, he was in his element. Then the moron decided to jump on Trent's back and rub the top of his head. That PISSED Trent off, as it would anyone. He reacted very quickly- pushed the moron away and went after him quickly- It looked like he was going to hit him with his guitar. When he saw that the security guards were all over the moron's shit, he quickly was back in his element. He was very professional and he never missed a beat.
The stupid moron was bragging about it outside the Hilton after the show- why didn't they throw his stupid ass out of the entire Casino.........

Yes, they were decent but it is always difficult for me to watch bands I have never heard of which is true of every band NIN toured with this year.

I must say...I have been most impressed with trent's choices for the supporting acts...I was already a fan of dresden dolls...autolux is still growing on me...QOTSA are great...on a whim I bought the Standard's record wire post to wire....it is amazing...and everyone should check that record out. did anyone that actually knows the standard see them? if so, how were they live?

at first i was a little uneasy about The Standard. but by the end of their set i was really pleased and i might give their record a shot. Christmas has made me broke so no luck in getting it now

The Standard were AMAZING! Kind of a cross between Tool and Radiohead, but actually a sound all their own as well. They are from Portland (where i'm at) so when they decide to play here locally I plan on being there, wearing my NIN shirt of course. I am also planning on purchasing their cd. I enjoyed them much more than Autolux, although they were good too.

As I said before, I loved them. Quite surprised by them. I just picked up ther first album August a couple days ago. I'm loving it! Can't wait to get the other two and see them live. They're taking a break for the holidays (a couple of them live back east while the others live in Portland) but hopefully they'll be playing around here before long.
