literally one of the best nin shows i've seen. combination of the venue, my location in it, and a very powerful setlist knocked me over. the band seemed tighter in general - as though they're settling in with one another.

was that an ipod shuffle i saw attached to the very special mike stand?

a good deal of the merch was different than the fresno/reno selection - there was even a sticker potentialy worthy of my MINI.

(i'm still thinking about it...)

DAMN! that was one of the best shows i've seen as well! i loved hearing them start the set with the frail & the wretched. i'm sonically & visually destroyed! the only part i didn't enjoy was when several idiots had to yell out & ruin the moment during the beginning of hurt. that's just disrespectful! my location was perfect - dead center at the first railing. the sound was excruciatingly loud, but good. once again, they ended with head like a hole & didn't have an encore. it was a great set list tonight. sorry i didn't write any of it down. i'm sure someone else will be posting it soon.

i was looking forward to seeing audioslave this sunday, but since i've been destroyed by trent, i don't know if i can enjoy any other show for a long time!

Awesome show. That venue is so cool. NIN on Market Street! Doesn't get better. I wish they did more songs off the new album but the performance was great. Better than the Davis show. The Big Comedown needs to become a permanent fixture in the setlist, that was definitely the highlight for me.

Edited to fix setlist. How could I forget Gave Up?!?

that should be it. the last few, and the first few are in order of performance. it is somewhat screwed up in the middle section, but this should be the set of songs that were performed to perfection! can't wait for tomorrow's show, and i hope they change a few songs, and add some others (mainly material off pretty hate machine==> down in it, sin, something i can never have would make my day!)

yeah, i was thrilled that they did the big comedown! one song i was hoping to hear, that they didn't do, was with teeth. i want to go to tomorrow night's show so bad, it hurts!

this was a really amazing evening, from start to finish.

dresden dolls were impressive and drew a big round of applause from the crowd. i wasn't impressed by their album but thought they were great live.

opening with the frail and the wreteched was fantastic. a nice intro into a song that builds and builds. i thought the set list was great. standouts were pigs, even deeper, reptile, tdtwwa, and closer, with the "only time" riff drawing a huge reaction. but wish was tops, with aaron flying all over the stage and tr screaming his lungs out.

i couldn't get over was how great they sounded. hard to believe these guys have only a handful of shows under their belt. tr has taken great pains to let the sound of the new album permeate the live versions and the effect is a very cohesive show. i really hope someone recorded it because i would love to have a copy (pm at will).

the only drawback besides a few minor tr mic problems was the smoke. people this is nin, not the moody blues.

i picked up one of the lithographs for $20. they seemed to have plenty. rob was walking around with his camera so i wonder if we will see any of this footage in the future. thank you tr. your passion is contagious and overwhelming.

some of the bros in the audiance were annoying, but a good show. felt like a mini fragility, was hoping for morea teetha.

I was the guy in the purple shirt.

matt925's setlist seems pretty accurate but he forgot gave up and happiness in slavery. at least I'm pretty sure they played happiness in slavery. it's all still kind of a blur for me right now.

Anyways, this was the best show i've ever seen in my entire life. I am not one to write a detailed review, but just know that the band was tight, and they did not dissapoint me at all. I was very satisfied that the setlist included alotta Fragile material.

Best moment for me: Reptile

I've got a few buddies going to the show tommorow, so i'm hoping they can bring me home one of them posters.

the show was fucking awesome! trent was on key the whole night and almost broke his guitar..commented...ooops...lol

jeordie looked kinda bored on stage during the middle of the performance, new guitarist was fucking great and acted crazy humping his amps and jumping on amps galore. jerome was great and synth player was kick ass too..I RATW this show a 10 out of 10.

Incredible show. They seemed even tighter tonight than in Davis. Reptile was absolutely amazing, very slow and grinding, probably the highlight of the show. The Big Comedown sounded great, again. After one song, I can't remember which, Trent flung his guitar backwards over his head, then told the crowd "I forgot how much fun it is to break shit". I coudn't have possibly hoped for a better show, wish I could see them tomorrow night as well.

The show was amazing!! I think I had a smile from ear to ear the entire time. They were so tight although I got a bit nervous when Trent jumped/fell off the stage. (Thought for a second he was hurt there.) All of the songs were amazing but my personal favorites were Reptile, Suck, and The Hand That Feeds. I just wish that they had played more new songs and played longer. It was so worth flying out here from NY, I can't wait for tomorrow's show.

still buzzing! although i was bummed not to hear more of the new stuff - in particular love is not enough & home - i think this setlist worked very very well as a unit - building and building (then resting) then building and building until the crowd pops. trent's always been brilliant at that.

i'm so glad that he's mixing up the set lists - we must have seen them 8 or 9 times on tDS tour and although "the play" was excellent, it did get predictable. then again, it then became a great treat when he threw something different in to mix it up. "oh my god, can you believe they played xxxxxxxxx!"

it's clear to me that they've been rehearsing quite a bit since the first round of shows. i saw fresno & reno and there were numerous slipups. they felt raw, tentative somehow, and oh so tender - this show was very confident.

now, the strange thing about that comment is that in the moment in fresno and reno i felt the tenderness and rawness accutely. the recordings of those shows don't necessarily reveal these sentiments - though you do hear the slipups. ah well, that's the beauty of actually being at the live performance - there are intangibles created in the moment that can never be mechanically recorded, just imprinted on our minds, souls, hearts. ok, i'm even a little embarrassed by what i just wrote here but i can deal, can you?

seeing the band this closely, in this type of venue - it's the perfect concert experience. i'm so glad they chose to book the tour this way - generally small venues a couple nights running. seems to come out better for both the fans and the band.

in terms of the crowd - yeah, it sucks when someone feels the need to scream out lyrics (out of tune and in your ear), or beat you silly because the crowd is thick and they wanna "mosh". but then again, that's the essence of a live concert experience and one has to find humour in it or not pay the dough to go.

i can't wait for tonight - it will be my last opportunity for a while to see them so close & personal.

coachella's gonna be interesting - probably too packed for close-up viewing though i will try. i was there a few years back for björk and the front of the stage was packed before siouxie started - and these people were not siouxie fans. it was strangely brutal. luckily i think the weather will be reasonable.

Show was good but eff the crowd. They weren't really that rough (worse than Davis though) but it seemed to be full of pricks. Who were the fucks SLAM-DANCING during the Dresden Dolls?! (DD BLEW me away by the way - can't wait to see them at the next few shows. Wow after seeing bland ass Tori twice this past week it was SO refreshing to see a chick on a keyboard with some balls. Nice)
People started crowding and rushing waaaay before Nails took the stage which created a few verbal spats for me. Heh. Oh and just a warning if Im in the front at a show and you get pulled out more than once - you WILL get shit from me. Some guy received a nice big wad of gum in his long hair courtesy of me after his third pull-out. If you can't stay in the first time - DON'T GO BACK YOU DOUCHE. I really don't enjoy your ASS being scraped across my head, Thnx. Oh and I also can't stand the fucks that stand there and jump around after being pulled out either - I punched one guy twice in the head for that. Haha. I love releasing my aggression on idiots.

I'm so sore and tired today (waited in the freaking RAIN yesterday from 7:30am) but it was fun. Didn't get quite as much fan-girl groping during Piggy as Davis (only got his hair this time) but eh. Whatevz.

I would have LOVED to hear Getting Smaller again but the setlist was good nonetheless.

So nice seeing everyone again and I SO SO SO wish I could go tonight. :/ Can't wait for Vegas!

Superb show last night.... they sounded great, played great. Either Aaron got something out of his system during the warmup shows, or Trent told him to tone it down a bit, but he seemed no more animated than Robin. Banana withdrawl perhaps? He did a fine job last night.... all of the guys were great. Jeordie sure can belt out the backup.
It's a bit odd to hear them open up with The Frail/Wretched instead of TL, but it works really well. Loved hearing The Big Come Down.... Trent had some great jerkiness during this one.
Nice choice of back-wall lighting on Reptile.... was like an old video game.... Millipede or something.

Loved the "Oops". Such a funny guy.

Like he said, it feels good to be back.

Yeah screamers suck but hell that's what a live show is about. I was also expecting more songs of with_teeth as they did play some of them until now but I can't complain cause I'm going again tonite and hopefully they will play new stuff.

Show was pretty tight and very loud, Trent seemed to have fun so that's cool, I hope he isn't gonna wait another 5 years before he comes back...

last night was so superfantastically amazing i cant believe it. it was so unreal.
ive been waiting six years for this, and finally i got to see nin. to see trent, live in person, right in front of me, i fucking touched him. and now, nothing else will compare. i wish i could see them again tonight. i'd give anything. God, i wish i was seeing them right now. also, i didnt get to buy one of the hoodies, which is sad. but still, the show was soooooooooo good. it was way more than i couldve hoped for. he played everything!!! i was so happy with the setlist!!! and he introduced reptile as one of his favorites, thats so great! argh, here i am supposed to be writing a paper and all i can think about is going back up to san fran to try and scalp a pair of tickets.
im so glad everyone else had such a good time too.
for something ive been waiting for for so long, it was perfect.

I think that this was by far the most guitar dominated show that I have seen. Drummer was excellent!
That is an awesome venue. I have been going to shows there for 25 years.

One question, tho: Why no encore?
This was a bit of a letdown.

Ummm they did it on Fragility 2.0 tour. There are probably no encores due to the small venues. When's the last time you saw a band do encores in a small venue?

Trent has a fucking fire in his eyes this time around.

After a five-year wait, NIN came back...well, with teeth. Suffice it to say, it kicked the ass of the living and raised the dead from their graves.

The Dresden Dolls were surprisingly good live, as opposed to the available recorded material. Excellent light show, good posturing at dynamic moments, and very solid variety of music (especially for just two people). Not a single sign of displeasure from the audience.

In such a small venue as the Warfield, NIN's performance was even more soul-rending than when Rammstein or Marilyn Manson came around. The backdrops and lighting were mostly blue, making the changes more piercing when they came.

Starting out with The Frail and The Wretched, the show began with a crescendo instead of a crash. The audience was thrown into a trance, and were literally thrown aback when You Know What You Are was played. Alternating between second/third person front center in the pit, I got a face-on view of the entire band as well as capturing the feel of the crowd. There was a tight fake-out between March Of The Pigs and Piggy, inserting The Line Begins To Blur with the same opening beat...nice move.

Terrible Lie was more rock than epic with this particular band lineup, which is probably the reason Trent didn't want to start out with it. He still has an uncontrollable urge to kick ass, but he's a little more careful about his aim when the furniture starts to fly. He played Burn, which needs no explanation as one of the highlights. Closer was a classic ride, but the loudest reaction from the audience came with the first notes of Reptile.

There were only 3 new songs played, not even With Teeth itself, but the variety of old songs certainly made up for it. Add Reptile and Burn to The Big Comedown, The Day The World Went Away, and Even Deeper, and you've got a rare live show.

Some bumfuck pigs started yelling behind me during the opening of Hurt...one assmonger yells out "Johnny Cash!" and another goes "How about you play something that rocks!" I turn around and yell "How about you SHUT THE FUCK UP!" He waits 5 seconds, and asks "Who said that?" I look him in the eye, flash the fangs, and say "I did. WHAT?"...after which he promptly shut the fuck up. So I go "Chill," turn around, and there was no more shit to put up with during the emotional apex of the show.

Dillon's drumming is as solid as ever, and Aaron and Alessandro are good players with good energy who definitely play because they want Nine Inch Nails to become what it hasn't been before. As for Jeordie...all I'll say is that when The Day The World Went Away began, he and Trent centered on stage facing each other (homage to Halo Seventeen), and swayed to the rhythm that they brought to life...old friends holding on to those who remained true at the beginning of a new era.

Trent's voice has improved, simply as a better command of vocals balanced with more intense screams. The look on his face has replaced desperation with a confidence which has grown in magnitudes even from the previous leg of this tour.

Anticipate the fall...big things are coming.

I've seen countless bands in the Hammerstein and Roseland Ballrooms here in NYC, and ALL of them did encores.

i want a show recording...... that show was awesome, and yes alot of the people did suck, its very wierd for me to say that i got my ass kicked in the pit during even deeper, i mean first of all i was involuntarily in there and secondly it was during EVEN DEEPER. but i walked away all smiles, got two water bottles, got to sing the second verse of piggy with trent, trent threw my glow sticks back out to the crowd, and jeordie threw me a bass pick! awesome, paid a serious full body bruise price.... until the fall- freshoil. anybody know how to get a recording let me know, freshoily@hotmail.com- laters

Trent fell off the stage durring Piggy. I was second-row center stage maybe two or three feet away form him, and me and the guy right in front of me were beckoning him to come down like he did on the AATCHB DVD, and finally, when he did, he fell off, and alterred the lyrics to something like "All of this for fucking you". He seemed like he was REALLY hurt for a while, but got back up and kept on going ... WITHIN HUGGING DISTANCE. I held on to his left hand for the next minute, it was SO awesome. He's fucking strong now.

Did anybody else notice him crying near the end of Hurt, or was that just me?

Encores are what differiantes a good band from a great band. I've seen the Dresden Dolls do up to three seperate encores at their headlining shows. If you like them with NIN you will love them solo. They've been doing two hour shows lately always a different setlist.

The mic got overloaded during the louder parts of the set. Sorry. I think I was a little too close the stage. - but it's live and loud! And if you don't mind a little distortion from time to time and the occasional screams of joy, it's a fun recording.

I'm only going to leave this up this weekend.

The mic got overloaded during the louder parts of the set. Sorry. I think I was a little too close the stage. - but it's live and loud! And if you don't mind a little distortion from time to time and the occasional screams of joy, it's a fun recording.

Thank you Tremans! I've only got The Frail/The Wretched so far but it sounds pretty good. Slight distortion in the backing vocals, but as you said you were probably a bit too close.

It is great that you've already got this out there in both FLAC and mp3.

I'm a people person, just not a crowd person. But sometimes, I have to make the exception, join the huddled unwashed masses and attend a concert. In this case I was without a doubt going to the first Warfield show of Nine Inch Nails.

I eagerly bought overpriced Ticketmaster tickets to the first Nine Inch Nails show at the Warfield one early Saturday morning online. It sold out in mere minutes. And I was all giddy for the first time in a long time. I was going to see Nine Inch Nails in a decent venue and I wouldn't have to camp out or see them play a huge arena.

Of course, once I got there I soon realized that I may have been jumping the happiness gun. Before I begin to whine, let me first say I'm not a snob. If you look like Tom Cruise and listen to NIN, fine, no biggie. If you are an Avril fan and Trent is your hero -- sure, okay, fine. But if you're a hippie and you have Muppet hair and you like to dance like Phish is permanently playing in your head, don't stand in front of me at a Nine Inch Nails concert!

Not only was a hippie dancing right in front of me, but in the nosebleed seats in the balcony where I was seated, I was also near every kind of Nine Inch Nails fan that I never thought should exist -- dancing hippies, bored soccer moms, drunk frat boys, Morrisey-lookalikes, screaming sorority girls and believe it or not an old man wearing a cowboy hat. WHAT IN THE HELL?

For a minute, I thought maybe it was a prank. Like I was on some annoying MTV show where they mess with innocent people's heads. But no, this was all too real. And it made me wonder what the band must think.

As I listened to Trent sing all his greatest hits with the strobelight flashing into my eyes from the stage, I craned my neck over the side of the balcony to see if the crowd was any better in general admission. It was a different crowd alright -- a sea of writhing blackness of sweaty tour t-shirts, leather wrist bands, goth girls trying not to let their mascara smear and lots of flailing fists. I caught the eye of many smooshed people looking up at me probably wondering if my seats were any better.

Trent played "Hurt" at the piano, but instead of being able to let myself get caught up in the dramatic moodiness of the melody, all I could hear were the wasted frat boys behind me yelling "play that animal fuck song!" over and over. I wondered why the same type of boys who used to push me into my locker for listening to this stuff, now love it? Or was it just that "animal fuck song" they adored oh so much?

Weird thing was, Trent barely played anything from the new album at all -- the majority of the show was a best of Downward Spiral, some Fragile and a couple from Pretty Hate Machine. No complaining from me since I haven't heard a lot of what he played live before, but it was odd he didn't bother promoting With Teeth which I figured was the whole point of this tour. Meh.

Trent did seem to have fun during the show -- throwing stuff around saying, "I forgot how much fun it is to break shit" and jumping into the crowd below a few times. Aaron seemed to have the most fun jumping off the amps and such, so it was fun to see how the new blood was acting on stage.

Aside from the crowd I was trapped in, I have to say the concert was AMAZING -- especially if you wanted to hear a lot of the old stuff -- including "Burn" which he rarely plays om tour. But alas, no encore.
All in all, it was a great show even with the drunk frat boys and such. Heck, I think the old man wearing the cowboy hat even enjoyed himself.

It was a good show, but the Reno show was so much better. The crowd sometimes makes or breaks a concert. It was all GA in Reno and more people were jumping and rocking out. The Warfield show was seating even if you were standing on the first floor. Fuck not having alcohol on the balcony. That's CA for you! No cigarettes in bars or alcohol on balconies. It's just a little time until that PC state bans alcohol in bars so they kiss up to MADD!

Great show though!

Wow, this was my first show ever with Nine Inch Nails and I still remember it vividly, especially how it opened with The Frail/The Wretched...that was beyond amazing. Oh, and The Big Come Down was the best one, definitely. And You Know What You Are...

Wow! I like going back through these shows. Hopefully it'll get people going back and looking at their first times here.
