Oh my god. Seriously, the show was fucking awesome. Setlist -

The Frail
The Wretched
You Know What You Are?
March of the Pigs
The Line Begins to Blur
Piggy
Terrible Lie
With Teeth
Burn
Closer (The Only Time)
The Big Comedown
Even Deeper
Suck
Wish
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole

Or something like that. Fuck you, you weren't there, eat my cock. If you were there, fuck you because you were paying too much attention to what songs were being played instead of Trent's fucking bulging arms. Seriously.

Genie, Jordan and I made it about 2/3 of the way to the front on the right side. And fucking Jordan left after Burn so he could see The Blood Brothers. What the fuck. So, Genie and I just rocked out towards the end. A highlight was someone yelling "FUCK JOHNNY CASH" after the second verse in Hurt. Excellent comedic timing.

Seriously, I had a blast and shared this awesome experience with some very cool people. I'll let them talk more about in detail or just echo my sentiments like a bunch of fucking sheep. TO THE POOL!

You fucking ass smack. You forgot "Wish."

I was at the far left of the stage against the rail, had a great view of it all, but mostly watched Jeordie and Alessandro as they were directly in front of me.

For me, the highlight of the show was the destruction. I have never seen Jerome trash his drum kit before. It was enjoyable watching him go at it long after everyone else was done breaking their shit and departed. I was hoping to see some real damage on this tour, and in this case, sixth show's a charm.

I thought Jeordie was going to fucking kill someone as well over the guitar snafu at the end. He usually seems so docile, but I wouldn't want to be the one to answer to him when he gave up waiting for his replacement guitar and stomped back to grab one. Also, he was extremely animated throughout the whole show, a bit more than we've seen on the other shows. Lots of fun to watch.

For once, Alessandro was in a position under lights, so we could actually see what he was doing...I never realized how much guitar work he does. Particulary neato was use of the vocoder for "With Teeth"...I hadn't noticed he was using his mouth for that.

I am being kicked out so some members of Chez ETS can make fuck. Perhaps more later on...most likely not as I am lazy.

It was great. Kinda a lame crowd, but i was up front so it was all good. Looks like jerome is going to need to buy a new drum kit. did anyone catch it when jerome threw his cymbal and it almost crashed right into aaron? there was some annying guy up front with me, he acted like he was the aurthority if NIN knowlege, and he was trying to hit on some chick on the other side of him. he was bringing up real obvious things to her and acted as if it was inside knowlege or something. i even corrected him on a few things, and he would turn around to the girl and be all "what i meant to say was....". after that he was asking me a lot of questions and would turn around and tell my answer to the girl on the other side of him like it was his own knowlege. really annoying. i locked myself up against the rail. some bitch actually told me to let her into my place. she actually had the gall to say "let me in your spot mother fucker". I said "fuck you, ive been waiting here all day, go fuck yourself". she then started to scratch the back of my neck, so i called up one of the security guys, cuz i didnt want to get my ass kicked for punching a girl. he told her to be nice, and that ended it. lots of people were passing out and were getting tossed over the barricade. the audience was pushing so hard up against the barricade that it was starting to bend forward. great fucking set. they really rocked. but i will never go to coachella again, way to far outta the way and way too long of a day. but i got Soma tickets so that will be sweet.

Thanks again E. Cool stuff for the most part, being all of Trent practically. Bad move by so-called photographers in my eyes. Same goes for all the other bands that photos were taken of, all front members. I want some wide shots for once. Lazy fans, get to the sharing. I live far far away from California, and everyone who's out there, should do their duty. Yeah.. yeah..
Master Traveler
I was right up against the barricade, upfront, center... I got some good pictures. ...The best I could get while being crushed. I'll post them a little later tonight-- amazing show.

Oh, by the way. All of those fucking photographers needed to be pelted in the motherfucking head with a fucking blunt object. Those cushy, fat, bald assholes with their fucking fancy ass press passes were standing up on seats between the barrier and the stage, blocknig the view of all of us who had been waiting for five hours, bloodied and beaten, just to see nine inch nails.

I said some choice words to those fat asses.

Don't look at their fucking lame ass pictures. I hope they all fucking die in a twisted bus wreck.
Master Traveler
all i have ot say is, i was upfront at the baracade at first, pulled into the pit durring you know what you are, and stayed there for the rest of the show. I am destroyed. Thank you Trent.
Prince Adept
Verd, I like your post.
Master Traveler
Great show!! I was on the right side near the front, right in the pit which kinda suck cus i wanted to take good pics. The set list was great but during the day i met jerome. i was at the food court when i see this really tall guy wearing black with-a pass haning around his neck. so me and my friend followed him to the mojave tent. I was able to take a few pics with him and chatted a bit, he wouldnt say anything about the set list as if it was a secret. very nice guy.
Master of Achievement
I had a press area pass but you needed a PRESS PASS to take pictures up front so really the only good thing my press area pass got me was clean flushing bathrooms... which is awesome if you think about it.

I had an AMAZING time, i'm still stuck in LA with the great Yorsh i'm going home tomorow, that sucks.

I will post pictures when I get home, they were mostly from the screen cuz i'm short and I almost got killed in the mosh pit (actually I saw te future of what would happen if I stayed so close to the stage that I just left) fucking smokers.

Anyway, with a little tweking I could pass then off as artsy. :?

Gotta go watch a movie.bye.

I just got home after a weekend that was all in all an amazing experience. Pit details to follow shortly.

i would have to say the highlight of my day on sunday was bumpin' into Joanowl and watchin' M.I.A. They were surprisingly good.
Master of the Ninth Arch
This was certainly a great first concert experience. :) While the crowd sucked a lot (not being able to breath, moshers, blond chicks, poor vision), it felt good to be with other NIN fans and sometimes singing with them. One of my favs was everyone saying 'fist fuck'. Though a few times I got hit in the head and I fell down, though with other people too (like dominos). It was kinda surreal to see Trent onstage because he always seemed to be just someone I saw in pitures and stuff, a weird feeling.

It was a good playlist, I was expecting something suprisingly put in at the last moment (something like only) but I got to see the big comedown, burn, and even deeper which was cool. Aaron kicked ass, one of my favorite parts was when he was trying to add feeedback to his guitar by putting it against the speaker. Plus they left in a that good ol' smashy way.

I also met someone who claimed to be Ms. Reznor.
trentsinmypants wrote:i fucking hate Coachella Valley and all who live there.....i will never attend another coachella event again.....nuff said
oh, and fuck you too.
Prince Adept
Trentsinmypants: What happened that made you hate Coachella so? Before the show on Sunday [well, I showed up at 5:30, so before the show for me] I was at this little mom and pop gas station to get change to use the pay phone [I'm one of the last people on planet Earth without a cell phone] and I felt like I had stepped into a movie. I half expected to hear "Dueling Banjos" in the background. It was very surreal. I sort of got this vibe of, "we don't like outsiders in our town," but the woman was nice, so my fears were unfounded.

The show was fucking amazing. It was awesome being among fellow NIN fans. The feeling you get being among thousands of people who are singing along as you scream "God himself will reach his fucking arm through," was worth the trip alone.

At a certain point during "Hurt", you could see a close up of Trent's face on the screens, and he was sort of smiling, and I remembered the L.A. Times article where they briefly mentioned that Trent was touched by how warm the crowd was to him at the Reno show. It definitely seemed at that moment that he was really enjoying the vibe he was getting from the crowd, and at the moment I was thinking this, some woman in the audience cheered really loudly [it was pretty quiet between verses during "Hurt"] and he seemed to chuckle a little and smile a bit more. I don't know if anyone else noticed this, or if it's all only in my head, but it was a pretty cool moment, it definitely seemed the whole show, but specifically there, that he really connected with the audience, and seemed very appreciative that everyone was supporting him, and that there were so many hardcore fans there.

After "Closer," I had to yell out, "That was so fucking amazing!" I was wondering if anyone would respond, and sure enough some dude in front of me was like, "Fuck yeah, it was!" or something like that and high fived me. That was pretty indicative of the crowd. Everyone there was very cool.

Oh, and between the new ending to "Closer" and "The Big Comedown," [among other things, but that was the highlight for me] that was the best show I've ever seen.
GentleRed
Jonelle, you cunt, I can't believe I missed you. I did, however, get a pic with the bench.

I must say, the most impressive part of Coachella for me was having superhuman powers in the pit. I helped boost out two girls who really were too short to be in the pit, wore a skirt that didn't (entirely) fall off, a halter top that didn't get untied, and managed to walk out without having lost my flip flops. I was on the fucking rail, for gods sake, and I didn't get destroyed. I wasn't trying to get up there in the first place, I just got pushed when the crowd rushed after New Order.

Speaking of New Order, uhm, I'll stick to listening to their music at home. Seeing them live was a pretty boring show. I guess I'm spoiled. Oh, did anyone else notice that he was reading his lyrics off of a small monitor at the edge of the stage? Too funny. He should know "Blue Monday" by now.

I say this knowing full well that it's rare for some songs (like "Reptile") to be sung without fuckups, but hey, those are funny!
Master Traveler
NIN fucking rules!!!!!

anywho, i was up front row on the left side about 7-10 ft away from the left screen next to a couple of cool blonde goth girls. i wore my Pretty Hate Machine shirt, sun glasses(during day) and had a pony tail. i got there quite early in time to see most of Gram Rabbit's(sp?) set and settled in my spot since then. then i had to leave my spot for a while to go get some water i needed, told the nice cool ppl next to me on the rail to save my spot(thx u ppl), so if u saw me asking to get back to my spot up front after Futureheads or whatever, sorry, but no fucking way was i gonna let my good spot go that easy. so i stayed there the whole time til NIN(god) was done. it was tough but i've had worse so it wasn't really that bad. anyways, NIN was amazing, i was one of those ppl staring more at Trent's arms than singing along only coz i thought there needed to be more ppl knowing all the words not only to Hurt or Closer. my highlights were yelling "fist fuck" with the lot of fans, with teeth+tambourine playn trent,The Big Comedown live finally though i didnt hear many ppl singing to it,destruction of instruments, and...was that Trent smiling during Hurt?

and yes, fuck those photographers(except for a couple of cute ones :P), i could've taken better pics of the guys!!!! and tambourine trent. only because of that big goddamm space between the band and crowd am i never going to another festival again. that and trying to enjoy bands during daylight

lets see. me and my boy flew from hawaii to LAX to the camping thingie.
first of all, you mainlanders have no respect for the enviroment. i aent no hippie freak, but fuck, pick up after yourself. at the camp, trash everywhere, at the concert, bottles everywhere on the ground, it was shocking to see you ppl are pigs. i held on to my empty bottles even after being smashed during nin.

anyway, the highlights are Wilco and NiN easily. i was near the front for wilco and able to move my body with the music and my god, if you mainlanders have a chance to see a Wilco concert, you better go. Jeff was fucking the shit out of his guitar and it was only a 50 min show and that really sucked.

Nin didnt headline on sunday, which sucked cause time was limited since 'black star" (for all the white people who think they are black and hates the goverment but dont know why) was the last to preform. anyway NIN was superstrong, and it wasnt because it was my first time and i was just excited, but it was like a perfect, strong, sounding...i really cant describe, it felt bigger than a Rolling Stones or some super power. New Order before was ok, but the BASS was FUCKED UP and i was hoping that the speaker didnt blow, but when NIN started it was super perfect. me and my boy was getting crushed, we were on the rails on the sides. we were there since 2pm enduring some rap crap watching the most stupidest audience in the world...sluts acting black and white college guys acting black what a sad fucking sight.
twas kind of a bummer not being able to move during nin and the guy next to me was about to pass out so he looked like he was bored but he was really hanging on to life.
but yea nin rawked it was worth it flying here to see wilco and nin
and bright eyes had the best intro presentation.
Master Traveler
Uh, yes, fuck the photographers, but no, you probably wouldn't be able to take better pictures than them. Trust me, I've tried. From right up front, pressed against the barricades, I took the following pictures..

These were the best ten out of probably fifty pictures I took. Most were just motion blurs or too fogged up. (No, I didn't carry any expensive camera into the pit. These were all taken on a digital camera-- Sony DSC T-1)

They're in chronological order. If you were there, you might be able to place a few of them with a song.

Note this picture... With the photographer cut out of it.

Here is the same photo with the photographer. ...See my point?
Image

This is the shit I'm talknig about. I was in the front. Pressed against the barricades. All of those people? Were photographers. And they all kept standing on things, getting in the crowd's line of sight. Blocking us from the show... For more than half of it.

Forgive me for being a little pissed, but I flew all the way from Miami to see Nine Inch Nails. I spent five hours standing and watching all of the preceeding bands, getting the shit beaten out of me (5'3" 100lb FEMALE)-- and then these fat bald fucks with no regard, stand infront of all of us. Preventing us from seeing much of anything.

I'm just going to remind you that I took those in the pit. ...With those fucking photographers in the way.

oh yea had problems with our tickets it was on hold through connections with goldenvoice, but they found the envelope with a vendor pass. i was kinda depressed that the guy Kevin didnt give me and my boy backstage passes, but hes a nice guy and came to front to open the gate for us cause we didnt know where to go with our vendor bracelet, and we called him, which i felt bad cause hes busy as fuck. and he personally let us through security on the side.

but it was a free show so cant complain about backstage pass. 8)

NIN fucking OWNED me! I finally got to see my favorite band.

Got home late last night, haven't had time to resize any pics or have much to do but I'll make a post later with pics and vid. For now enjoy Tamborine Trent!

Has anyone bitching about the photographers ever actually been to a concert before? They're always there, and they're always doing that. It's their job. Live with it. As far as the NIN show, well, I ditched after Burn to go see the Blood Brothers (as noted earlier), and have absolutely no regrets with regard to that decision as the Bloods were fucking awesome. I do, however, regret choosing NIN over Pinback. Ah well. Lesson learned. New Order were pretty awesome, though.

I liked Coachella, we met some really nice, cool people over the weekend. Especially Minneapolis Rob and Stephanie from the Coachella Shuttle van, and our wonderful Palm Desert driver, Diana. I'd go again.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my undying love for LUNATICA and her friend, JORGE, for bestowing upon me a V.I.P. PASS, which I lovingly called the "V.I.PEE" pass, since it enabled me to use very clean toilets that actually flushed. Thank you thank you thank you Luna and Jorge, you rock. (Plus, you were really cool to hang with Sunday evening. Te amo mucho.)

We got to the main stage for Gang of Four but Luna is really shrimpy so she bailed and went over to the side of the stage. She came back to get us, later, but I hate being on the side, so I went back to where I was, closer to the center. We stayed there for New Order, too, and then Luna and I linked arms and jammed our way toward the front and center before Nine Inch Nails.

The closer to the stage we got, the thicker and deeper it got, and I looked down on her (I'm only 5'5" but I felt REALLY TALL right then, since even I could see way more than Luna) and I said, "Ummm... Are you sure about this?" I mean, any closer and she was going to get smothered. I recommended that we stay put for a few minutes and assess the situation. When Luna realized that she couldn't even see either of the big screens, she decided to bail and head for the side of the stage.

Good idea. We stayed put, and things were fine for a few songs but then a pit broke out about 2 feet to our right, which of course caused giant surges in the surrounding crowd. That only lasted for one song, I think, and it was actually pretty funny while it lasted. When it broke up, it provided a huge gap that most of us quickly filled by surging forward.

My opinions:

* White shirt = very good
* Black tank top = very brian kinney + shows off traps and delts
* Closer: girls screaming through part of it = very funny
* Hurt: girls screaming through part of it = even more funny
* Set list: muchas gracias (please do The Collector on Friday in Chicago??)
* "To Hell with Poverty" = O.M.F.G. (oops, sorry, wrong band)
* I would hate to be a rock star and have my face THAT HUGE on a friggin' big screen t.v.
* "Regret" = Screwed-up live, due to bad bad sound, I hope they do it again tonight and it's not screwed-up please, and oh please please please also do Ceremony (oops, sorry, wrong band)
* Peeing at the V.I.P. lounge = good
* Crowd = very cool, some really nice people
* NIN = Tight, the lighting was way cool -- looked like giant radiators with motorcycle helmets on top; I still wish he'd play more from With_Teeth but whada I know?
* I thought the Tesla coil would be WAY bigger than that! (It was louder than I guessed it would be.)
* Deconstruction of the "Baby" art exhibit was WAY friggin' cool
* I ended up being by myself for most of Gang of Four, New Order & Nine Inch Nails, but we all managed to find each other, afterward.
* We lost Jorge 4 times and we found him, later
* It really amazes me that we ran into people in that big of a crowd
* Palm Desert is really really really beautiful, but it'd be even better if I golfed. There was a sand trap outside my hotel patio balcony. Golf carts everywhere!
* M.I.A. was great
* The b/f decided that the Futureheads were better than anybody; I wouldn't know, I was waiting for a toilet in the V.I.Pee Lounge
* Rock climbing at Joshua Tree = way cool
* I missed the Arcade Fire so I could see Gang of Four
* Autolux was really boring, bummer
* They shoulda put the Prodigy on a main stage, from the size of the crowd they drew (which went WAY outside the tent)

I'll post pictures tomorrow. Maybe.

Uh, I know the photographers were only doing their job, but if I paid $95 and stood up front all day watching bands I don't like just to see one band at the end of the night, I'd be pretty pissed off too. I can certainly understand where they would be mad.
Site Admin
Well, there was one photographer by us who would take people's crappy cameras up front and take nice pictures with them. I don't know his name, but I thought that was really fucking cool of him. The staff were very helpful too, with the pouring of the water in the open mouths and such.

Lots of interesting acts there, some of them not so interesting. Glad to have caught a bit of The Locust, or perhaps more glad that I caught a bunch of people catching the Locust. Their facial expressions were priceless.

I also have to say, New Order bored the living hell out of me. But then they said something about sharks and being tired, so perhaps they were having trouble keeping their eyes open too.

Managed to watch the whole Nails show from the side of the catwalk barrier. The show definitely got progressively better, and the band is tight as ever. Surprised by some of the stuff Alessandro's pulling off back there. The fellow behind me started crying when they played Hurt, and cried for the rest of the set. Heh. Very friendly crowd where we were.

Too much to talk about. I have to go and buy a Dualdisc now.

I have to agree that New Order was pretty damned boring. And I noticed, too, that the show got progressively better. The turning point was the amazing reworked version of "Closer" and then "The Big Comedown." Everything after that was just amazing.

We were to the right of the center, about ten people pack, with a perfect view of the screen and a less perfect view of the stage. I'm 5'3", and I don't think I have ever felt how SHORT I am so acutely before. There were times when I felt positively claustrophobic, which normally doesn't happen to me, but on Sunday I was just having issues with it. The crowd where I was was pretty nuts, with the surging and all. My hair got pulled, but all my clothes and shoes stayed in place.

After MArch of the Pigs, which was insane, we found ourselves getting pushed a little further back, so I could enjoy the rest of the show. It was AWESOME. There was a goofy girl next to me who was dressed in vinyl and positively PANTING over Trent, which provided some amusement when I couldn't see anything else. I had the best time yelling along to The Line Begins to Blur and THTF, and to echo everyone else's sentiments, I really liked the smiling Trent. The first time I saw Aaron jumping around and doing the amp-stand thing, the first thing I thought of was Meathead's costumed Aaron upside down, and I just about lost it.

All in all, a spectacular time. Of course, the fact that it was in BEAUTIFUL setting, and I was staying at an amazing house with amazing people, didn't hurt. Oh! And it was great meeting all the people I was able to run into at the show. Lunatica, I STILL can't believe you were able to recognize me.

I haven't slept in over 24 hours, what with the plane back to Florida and it's finals week, so I'm completely loopy, but it was so so so so so so worth it.

Im the one on the far right leaning on the barricade, immediately on the right hand side of the long haired Canadian staring right at the camera.

could someone explain why Gang Of Four was slated in the later half of the day? I felt that they should have been on a small stage as they were not very good. How long have they been around?

my friends and i walked by their tent and turned our heads. it took us a full minute to realize what the fuck was going on. i had no idea human beings could make music like that. it blew my fucking mind.

i don't want to repeat what has already been said, so I'll just talk about how great the big comedown was. it was during this song that my drugs were starting to wear off, and since irony is a great thing sometimes, i took the cap off my next hit of e and just snorted it. it kicked in when the breakdown started, and well, best moment ever. wish kick ass too.

I wondered what that was all about...I could see him holding his hand out and groping around at nothing for a while, and was rather confused about it until he went off stage and returned with a guitar.

I was very happy with the show. I was on the left side of the stage, with a pretty good view of everything for the most part (some tall fuckers kept blocking the right side of the stage for me, though...I hardly saw Aaron the whole time). I was happy with the setlist, but I'll be honest, they probably could have performed show tunes or the itsy bitsy spider and I would have been happy to see it. I was just glad I got to be there at all, since it was looking so unlikely for a while. I still wish I could afford to go to any of the other shows, though... Atlanta is so close to me, but I just don't have any money left.

Oh, one last thing... Trent with the tambourine = best Davy Jones impression I've ever seen. I could not stop laughing. I also bet I am the only person who made that connection... but I am a huge Monkees fan, and well, Davy plays tambourine.

Yes, it was nice running into you as well. Thanks for the water! You were like a water fairy, you handed me the water, and then you were gone. It was somewhat magical. I hope you found who you were looking for and had a nice time. And M.I.A was so good. I have to say I was very excited to see her live, and she didn't let me down. I can't wait to see another of her shows.

I'm surprised you were able to find my truck (and the bench) in order to take a picture with it. I couldn't even find the fucker when I was trying to leave. I wandered around that parking lot for 30 minutes, completely lost. But thankfully, the special connection the bench and I share brought me back to it.

Highlight of the day for me was definitely M.I.A. Oh, and of course choosing to wear the wrong shoes and having to buy a horribly overpriced pair of sandals, just so I could stay on my feet for another four hours. That was fun too.

One of the original late 70s punk bands. A lot of bands have jobs today because of groups like Gang of Four. They are/were hugely influential. I'm going to guess that our boy was a fan and probably had a poster of Sara Lee in his locker.

They deserve their spot on the big stage.

well, not much to say...im fucking speechless and fucking sore...we were settled and crushed 2 guys away from the left side of the gate, off the right fence square up front (someguy was confused yelling "all you fuckers go back to the rave tent" or something to that effect , fuck we had been there four hours near the mixing desk during new order then were pushed all the way to the front square gate!!! didn't even try to get closer. as soon as some tall guys were pushed into the pit Trent was straight ahead!!! Fucking amazing set and in particular the sound quality kicked fucking ass compared to other bands, i will put up some "hurt" footage once i get it out of the camera, i started recording with my right, took out my cell with the left, and called my girl...which lead to a cool recorded message of about half the song...only problem? it prompted every tall person in front of me to take out their cell phones and block my view!! but they quickly came down after that when things got moving!!! fuck fuck fuck it was amazing!! this was lame but can't get it out of my fucking head !!! phoenix here I come!!!

sorry to ask, but what the fuck happened??? I hate fucking festivals too, but it was actually ok, and I also thought MIA were a hightlight, and the cops & attendants looked the other way while I was drinking outside the booze areas & while my friends smoked it up with no shame. did the NIN set not do it for you?

My first festival experience, and I can honestly say half of it was extremely fun and the other half, well, just sucked.
Not sure why all the complaints about the photographers. They have a job to do too.
Anyway, aside from a bunch of shitty so-called fans, the show was amazing. I loved the setlist, and I loved the energy Trent and Co. exhibited up there. It was really fucking great.
I do agree with what another poster said about everyone not knowing a lot of the lyrics to some of NIN's more important songs. I seriously laughed my ass off when all the teenie boppers around me were pretty much static the entire show until he played The Hand That Feeds. Too fucking funny.
And I'll never get over how many girls in the world are just plain slutty groupies. Fucking disgusting. I'll keep it at that.
Great show.
Hot weather.
Too many morons.
I'd do it again, though.

Can't wait for Chicago 5/7!

Does anyone remember during the Wretched if Trent sang "Fuck it" instead of "Forget it?" I am 99% sure he did, but I can't fully remember. I do know that it made me grin.

great show.
Very fun.

I don't know why girls try to make their way to the front. they just pass out after the first 3 songs anyway...

That said, the crowd was good where I was.
People helped those that fell, they lifted the girls that died, and everyone knew the music and jammed.

One little fat girl yelled, "Somebody's down" and everyone kinda formed a little space hoping to help the person up... turns out she just wanted to get some room for herself for a moment. Sneaky beyotch.

Anywho, after they finished their set, they trashed their equiptment. Some keyboard pieces flew in our direction which was cool.

A+ show.

Can't wait to see 'em in Phoenix.

Coachella was incredible. We had an amazing time and will definitely be going again next year. The past few months work has kept me crazed and this year Coachella was book ended by a few very hectic weeks so the timing was perfect.

For both Saturday and Sunday we had VIP passes so between gigs like M83, Mid Lake, M.I.A., Jem, and others we would run back and down mixed drinks.

We stayed in the VIP area through-out most of New Order's set but with two songs left, ran out from behind the fence and pushed towards the left side of the stage finally ending up just in front/left of the sound board guys and Jonathan Davis. After four songs we cut out from the swarm and ran to the far back of the crowd to soak in the overall performance. A few songs later (we had already seen NIN in Fresno, Reno and soon Soma) we left and decided to head over to where the Prodigy was going to start playing.

When we got to the Prodigy's tent, my girlfriend leaned up against the fence on the far wall and when the gate slide a little. She looked at me and then slid sideways between the rails and entered the backstage area. Without a second thought I dove in behind her and next thing I know we are quickly walking up a cart path and headed to the main backstage road, away from the Prodigy, and back towards Nails and the main stage. After making the long "L" path back to behind the main stage we came to a busy intersection. One fork led to the exit where a number of utility vehicles were stopped. Another led down a walkway that eventually poured into the VIP lounge. Yet another led into an outdoor seating area with two trailers equipped with bar and food stands and one more led directly into the back of the main stage. This was the only path that was guarded.

It only took a moment to decide where to go next.

I flashed my wrist at the two guards, somewhat distracted by the continuing NIN set and a roadie stacking equipment cases. At the time I was wearing a camping band, Saturday's VIP band, Sunday's VIP band, the 21+ drinking band and a black leather watch. I held my wrist up to them and pulled my girlfriend in close to me.

They waved their flashlight and we walked past them. We sat down in the grass directly behind and next to the main stage at the foot of the stage stairs and watched NIN perform the remainder of their set.

After about five more songs, knowing the area would start buzzing once the set ended, I held my girlfriend's hand and we left the mainstage area and walked back out and onto the cart path and again past the security guards. Directly across from the main gate were the NIN tour buses. Directly in front of them a small security station with four guards standing in front.

While I was waiting for a golf cart to pass, and still thinking about where to head to next, my girlfriend who had been chasing my consumption of mixers one-to-one all night, started to lean on me and complain about being a little dizzy. I grabbed her hand and we ran across the street and cut between two buses and leaned against a fence slightly obscured by shrubbery. It was the closest patch of grass and it kept us out of sight of the parked ambulances and guards just up the street.

This is where I started really not feeling good about the situation. Without getting into specifics, backstage is not something at all unusual for me and I'm not a groupie/groper by any stretch. The last thing I want is Trent and company to come off the stage and head towards their buses only to get surprised by a strange couple seemingly hidden in the plant growth next to their tour bus. I kept thinking, "Thank Christ neither of us are wearing anything NIN."

My girlfriend kneels down into the thick grass and starts holding her head while I pet her hair and rub her shoulders. I'm looking left and right waiting for the inevitable moment when someone is going to spot us and either get scared thinking we are a couple of sick fucks hiding out for them or boot us out the back gate (the later of which I would be much more comfortable dealing with).

So while she is sitting up on her knees in the grass holding her head trying to relax a little, a woman comes between the buses and tries to pull open her bus door. She is standing to my right. I bite my lip and look at the guards about one bus length to my left. The girl knocks on the bus windows and looks around. At this point, she still had not seen us as it is dark and we were off the sidewalk and partially obscured by hanging palm leaves. Pre-empting a scream, I loudly say to my girlfriend, "It's ok- you'll be fine. Just a little dizzy. Relax." The girl looks over at us squinting. At first she stepped away from us and then stopped, looked around, and nervously inched towards us.

I do my best putting my face in what little light there was behind the bus and try to speak in my meakest voice possible (I'm 6'2, built and wearing heavy cargos, a tight black shirt and a black backpack so this isn't an easy feat). "Hello. She's just feeling a little dizzy at the moment-" Now I'm talking to my girlfriend, "Are you ready to start walking again? Are you ok?" She shakes her head no. Fuck.

The girl comes closer and stands about two arm lengths from us, speaking with a beautiful accent and looking positively adorable, while staring at my girlfriend she asks me, "Who are you?" Her voice is soft but there is anxiety hanging between her lips.

I tell her both of our real names. "-And where are you from?" Perhaps feeling a little more satisfied with our responses anxiety turns to inquisition. I give her an honest answer but worded in such a way that makes us sound more like press or extended family of people that actually belong where we are. "New York. We got in last night and tomorrow we are headed out to Vegas. I think around-" Turning to my girlfriend, "We head out in the afternoon, right?" She nods her head without looking up, now clutching her knees. Everything I said was true, I was born in NY and eventually made my way to Vegas. By Monday night, I will be back in LV again. This is important because when we get asked all of this again later, we were always honest.

Her anxiety fades away and she pulls a bottle of partially drunk water out from her purse and hands it to me. Then she kneels down beside us and says, "Tell her to drink some of this." We start talking and she tells me who she is and who she is here with (not going to be said here). All the while I am still petting my girlfriend. After a short while, I sit down in the grass and while partially cradling my girlfriend, she sits down next to me. We talk for about 20 more minutes until my girl finally feels better and sits up a little. For the first time she looks at both of us. Her eyes are a little watery but she smiles and hits me with a flattened hand. I laugh and so does our guest.

I thank our new friend, shake her hand softly and my girlfriend gives her a warm smile. I lift my girl up with both arms and give her a hug then we start cutting back between the buses. I'm facing backwards saying good bye to our friendly acquaintance...

What happened next was a series of yet even more surreal moments that were interwined together forming one of the most unusual and circumstantial nights in recent memory. Needless to say we had an incredible time through-out the whole of Coachella and we both wished it did not all have to pass so quickly.

Coachella and the fields were beautiful during the day and absolutely gorgeous at night. We had an amazing time camping and saw, heard and experienced so many wonderful moments we cannot even begin to record them all here.

I know this is a tour diary and I should probably talk a little more about NIN's show, but our experience was something totally different.

Well, I woun't post pictures till I get this piss of shit camera to work for me.arrgh!

I wanted to meet all of you but, everything was so hectic that when you all sat down to eat I was ready to see other bands... so maybe later, i'm sure.

Beavis&Beavette: You guys were awesome, thanks for sticking by me when Yorsh would disapear, you didn't have to (as he said the world revolves around him so he wouln't be hard to find) and that pizza didn't set me well... too much cheese for this lactose intolerant, bad indegestion... you know the rest.

Jordan: You were shorter than I thought. And I thought I would see you again and but I didn't see you again so I thought that short greeting was increadibly stupid of me. :x

Jade: You were shorter than I thought too, and yeah, I saw you first but I wasn't sure, I was like: "Is that..." And then I saw Greg and I was like: " yeah, let me follow these people for a while"

The rest: I hope I wasn't too creepy, well, we didn't talk much did we? :(

Joanoll I saw you at the M.I.A. show but I didn't say anything, I wanted to meet you too! I tried making my way through the crowed but I lost you. sorry!

I didn't go to the pit this time because mostly I wanted to enjoy my first NIN concert experiance and suck it all in but next time I WILL do it, I DON'T CARE!

I'm glad I backed away anyway there was a little hill and I could see fine from it, plus, I lost Yorsh for the 5th time and I was all alone, nobody could hear me or see me or bother me. There weren't any NIN fans were I was so everybody was looking at this crazy chick belting all the songs and jumping around like a maniac! Yorsh found me halfway in the show but he had to pee so I lost him again and then I found him again and we started dancing and stuff, it was so much fun.

And yeah, I saw everything but I didn't take pictures of him in the white shirt because I was literaly stuned for the first few songs thinking "this is actually hapening!" my heart was jumping out of my chest and when he sang Even Deeper and, good lord I almost cried! but I didn't...

I had V.I.P. passes for Saturday and Sunday, I didn't tell anyone because I wasn't sure if I would get the Press Area pass but when I got that one, I started looking around for Jordan so that I could give the Saturday one to him and the Sunday one to Beavette so I didn't use the Saturday one cuz I didn't see ANYBODY from here that day. :(

It's still unused if you still want it Jordan. :?

(like Beave said the only thing I saw that was spectacular about it was the bathrooms)

Everything else there was people drinking and not enjoying the festival with the mere mortals.

Edit: I forgot to say I got the CD that same day Thusday morning, (just the regular one cuz by then I was seriously broke) and I lisened to it all the 12+ hours to Puerto Rico and I didn't get sick of it... loved it, didn't even skip one song.

It really is the best, all I can say is: I have an itchin' and it's for more tambourines. 8)

EDIT2: INEEDBOOTLEG!

Edit3: I could have sworn he said in Burn : "this mother squirl's gonna have to pay" this is eating me away. I need the bootleg.

i was at the front rail from about 5 until 11. at least 4 people directly next to me begged security to pull them out partway through the set, but i had no problem, and i weigh 100 lbs (vagina included). i saw one unconscious woman get pulled out. the water angels poured agua in our mouths a few times, but it really wasn't that hot.

one woman next to me was there with her boyfriend for their first nin show. she used an inhaler earlier in the evening, so maybe she asked to be pulled out because she was afraid she wouldn't be able to breathe. she screamed every time the crowd pushed (until someone told her to shut up), and later she put my hair in a bun because she had to eat strands of it every time the wind blew.

the woman on my left had driven 25 hours down from Canada to be at the show.

looks like my other Coachella post escaped into the ether somewhere....

I would like to go on record, here, by stating that I wish New Order would STOP playing "Love Will Tear Us Apart." They played it at Coachella, then again here in Chicago on Tuesday. That's one of the most depressing goddamned songs ever written, and they do it like it's "If You're Happy and You Know it, Clap Your Hands!!" They can also stop putting Kylie Minogue samples in "Blue Monday," thank you very much.

Also, Gang of Four's set was a like a goddamned out-of-body religious experience. For me, at least. Although, there was a guy next to me, about my age, who seemed to be having the same experience. He kept messaging somebody with his blackberry and holding it up for sound, and shaking his head like he thought he was dreaming or something, and the ear-to-ear grin never left his face. Mine, neither.

I thought the show was incredible! I have some pretty good pics but no where to host them. (I'm not good at that sort of thing)Allot of awesome shot's of closeups from the jumbotron. I was a bit further back than most of you, about halfway between the sound booth and the stage, as I like to have room to jump around, and being 6'4 I can see the stage just about anywhere. The festival itself was amazing. What could of been a stressful fiasco, turned out to be one of the most well organized events I've had the pleasure of attending.

So that guy who was a few people next to me recording the show on minidisc had the microphone in his outstretched arm, right in front of my face. And I couldn't help but talk into the mic and say something really stupid. If a bootleg comes out from Coachella that sounds really good except for, during one song, a guy is talking into the mic saying "Meathead rules," you can blame me for ruining it.

Sorry, dude with the microphone, but your setup sucked and festival bootlegs usually suck too.
hey uh, did anyone else who saw MIA happen to witness the swarm of bees that decended upon the rear right side of the tent where i was standing? shit was CRAZY! hilarious. i just walked slowly away, but people were fuckin screaming and running and it was one of the funniest things i've seen in a long time.

i flew from baltimore to camp out at the festival all weekend and i had a fuckin blast. on friday night in LA before the heading to indio, i got to go to the hollyood home of david fincher(fight club, seven, alien 3, etc., etc.) to pick up one of the guys who was going with us. unfortunately, fincher wasn't around, but his wife and cats were real nice!

considering all the things i got to do all weekend, nin was really just icing on the cake, but they were one of the main reasons i went to coachella, and i was not disappointed at all. luckily i managed to squeeze my way to the front(left side) by the time the second song started. if you were there, i was wearing a red beret(perhaps you remember me?) anyway, what a crowd - i don't know if i've ever been so concerned for my well being at a concert event, only because there were SO MANY people trying to fit into a certain area that didn't really accomodate that many people. i'm not a 5'5" girl either, i'm a 6'3" guy who was rather concerned at times for others who aren't as big as me. anyway, i think for the most part everyone was cool, although i was disappointed at the lack of singing being done by fellow crowd members. i sang/yelled the whole time with exception to times when i simply couldn't breathe. maybe i'm just too much of a loudmouth. thx to those moshers who picked me up when i fell down a couple times during "burn." no thx to the beefcake asshole who told me to stop touching his neck(wtf?) anyway, i was completely satisfied with nin, the crowd, the whole experience. shit was loud and roudy as fuck, topped off with the destruction of the set to end the set. i've absolutely no regrets. still waiting to develop and scan pics that my gf took, but i'll try to post em here once i have em. out...[/i]

i came in with four friends from Hawaii and one from LA. we camped out from The Futureheads to the end of the NIN concert in the little cove that was the open part of the t-shape in the middle of the crowd. best fucking decision ever. none of us got crushed, the two guys that were with us played doorstop to most of the flow that moved around as NIN performed, and the security guard was nicer than he probably should have been (and we had to shush him once while he was flirting with this blond chick).

i screamed, i howled, i sang along, i jumped, i danced, i took blurry photos with zoom (which i still need to upload), and none of my LJ phone posts worked (fuck you and your shitty reception, Coachella - i didn't even get just crowd roar. NOTHING registered).

it was a dream come true, motherfucking HEAVEN.

i only had to beat up about three assholes that tried to shove their way through us in drunken/drugged/berserk frenzy.

and if anyone can put Wish in its proper place in that setlist, i will love you forever.

Leviathant, i wish i'd known you'd be there!

Best Coachella ever! It's my 3rd trip out to Indio and this was by far the best year. I flew out from NYC and it was so worth it. NIN was definitely the highlight for me but the whole lineup on Sunday was satisfying. I was up front for New Order (only so-so and the sound was of unfortunate quality--the bass was problematic). I was in the pit originally but decided to enjoy the show from a little farther back. The sacrifice was that my part of the crowd was a little more docile but definitely still cool. A group of us worked together to help the shorter folks get a few glimpses of the stage. Despite a few knuckleheads I thought the energy of the crowd was great.

I'm glad to see there are some other folks amused by tamborine Trent. Both times I've seen With Teeth live, it's reminded me of my church going days in the south (long, long ago). It looked like Trent was really channeling the Holy Ghost. It was a nice balance of the old and new stuff and the band looked sharp and relaxed out there. For me, two shows down, 1 more to go.

I was right by the back part of the tent when the bees decided to pay M.I.A. a visit right in front of me! It was so freaky! My buddy and I thought it was an omen of some kind. The entire day was just awesome. Gang of Four was great and it was nice to drop in on the Prodigy and Black Star. I regret not seeing more electronica but there's always next year.
