Dresdon Dolls on stage

Me with the Dresdon Dolls after they rocked out their set

NIN 1

NIN 2

NIN with hott blue lighting (my fav)!

NIN 4

The show was amazing!!! Even better than last night. Trent was definitely more into the performance or more comfortable with the venue. I was in the balcony, but pretty close to the front with an aisle seat, so I could see everything. It was a better viewpoint than my spot on the floor Thursday.

Highlights for me: Reptile (again...so amazing), Wish, The Wretched, and TDTWWWA

Also seeing Alessandro and Aaron chucking water bottles back and forth at each other was hilarious.

edit: linked pictures because they are huge

I'm so glad someone posted a proper setlist - I lost all train of thought after Trent was going crazy during March of the Pigs!!

Tonight's show was so awesome - I soooo had to go and totally do not regret buying a ticket outside - 8th row, left center!! The band was so much more into it tonight - Twiggy was even more animated! Him & Aaron kept laughing at each other across the stage before throwing water at each other! Loved it when Aaron knocked over a bunch of the drumset - Bet Jerome was thrilled!!

Cannot wait for the fall tour!!

Missed Dresden Dolls last night - they kicked some ass tonight - wicked impressed!!

So happy now...
Bricklayer
yeah, it was better than last night. march of pigs was insane tonight!
more fragile centered. nice to still have Burn too.
also, i was able to record it, which will make its rounds in due time, so don't ask.
Master Traveler
That was fucking good.

Dresdon Dolls made a new fan.

Loved the Fragile songs I'd never heard live, though I would have also liked to hear "Love is Not Enough", "With Teeth" etc. too.

I love my earplugs.

My throat hurts.

Goodnight!
Bricklayer
Tonight was awesome. Instead of second row, I was about 9 or 10 rows back in the orchestra, but damn. It seemed like Trent had a lot of energy tonight.

The DD continued to impress me with their opening set. They handled the guitar string breaking rather well, I thought. Too bad it screwed up the song ("Amsterdam", was it?), though. I liked that one.

Weird story, though... My friend and I had all day to kill, so we showed up at the Orpheum really early. We heard part of the soundcheck (they played "Piggy" and "Getting Smaller") and stood around. After a while we went to eat and then headed back. We were standing across from the bus when this girl all in pink set up a little sign next to one of the street cones, leaned against the tour bus, and started reciting her poetry. It was kind of... er... well, akward to say the least?

So as she was carrying on, the alley kind of emptied out (the line moved into the building and there was a lull... it really was the two of us and maybe three others a little bit further down). So Jerome came out and got on the bus, walking past the girl. My friend smiled at him and he sort of jokingly raised his eyebrows. A few minutes later, I heard a noise, turned to look at the girl in pink again, and saw that she was soaking wet. Another friend who had joined us was laughing hysterically and said that a window on the NIN bus had opened up, a hand had appeared holding a cup, and the contents were quickly turned onto the poetry girl's head. She kind of stormed off and we just stood there laughing. I honestly felt bad for her, but I want to know who doused her. It could've been Jerome but we also saw Aaron jump off the bus and walk down the street, so I guess it could've been him, too.

Oh well...
Bricklayer
Photo of the envelope I wrote the setlist down on during the show, plus my ticket.

night_solace beat me to putting it up, but has the exact same list I have. plus, night_solace confirmed my suspicion that it was a clip from Beside You In Time that started it off.

The show totally kicked my ass. A full review will be up soon on ThatLittleBastad.com (EDIT: Review is up now). But, briefly, my favorite music-related moment was the "Down in It" bridge during "Closer" and my favorite crowd-related moment was when the shirtless guys in front of me started yelling the chorus to "Hand That Feeds" at the security guards.

I remembered to bring my earplugs today and it made everything so much better!!

Pictures from tonight.

I was sitting in the Orchestra Row Z on the right side and security and the ushers pretty cool to let me sit on the ledge for so long.

PS: What was Trent holding in his hand during Piggy? It didn't look like a mic.
Master Traveler
Fucking amazing show, the dresden dolls kicked so much ass, that is one bad ass drummer. The cover of war pigs was so good the energy they put into their show is great. NAILS OH MY GOD 4th show for me and it blew me away i deffinatelly rocked way out and screamed right along to every song. The band sounds so tight and Aaron is a mad man and so energetic, damn. Jeordie was so cool and collective he is the man as well. great fuckin show.
Master Traveler
I forgot to mention that WBCN was there, and they were handing the collected dvd out of their truck window to people who went up and asked for one. me and my friend saw some chick with it and we asked her where she got it and she told us so we went and got copies from them, my friend got 2 copies from them.
Bricklayer
The show was great, though a little bit too much off the fragile for me, but I will live. March of the Pigs was just amazing. I was in the orchestra section left center. I was wearing my trusty KMFDM shirt because it keeps me warm. Uh huh. The Dresden Dolls were good stuff too, a very good opening act for a theater tour. I don't think they would have been a good match for an arena tour, but in this enviroment they were quite good. But anyway, NIN was great, and I can't wait for the fall shows.
Bricklayer
Damn I'm tired. Water fight during "Hand That Feeds" between Aaron and Jeordie was pretty damn funny. "Reptile" rocked my ass. On that note, enjoy the pics...setlist seems to be right...but I wrote it down as:

The Frail
The Wretched
You Know What You Are
Line Begins to Blur
March of the Pigs
Piggy
Terrible Lie
Burn
Closer
Reptile
Big Comedown
Gave Up
The Day the Whole World Went Away
Suck
Getting Smaller
Even Deeper
Wish
Hurt
Hand That Feeds
Starfuckers
Head Like a Hole

Rock solid, rock solid...
Bricklayer
Great fucking show with a really sad ending. The band started out not really that into it, but by the 3rd song all hell broke loose. Very intense. March of the Pigs and Piggy back to back worked really well!

About 2min after the show, we waited by the back exit for Trent to come out on to the bus that was parked there. After about 15 min, a crowed of 60-70 people were there. Then a line of about 7 to 10 security guards came out with Trent in the middle. And right onto the bus he went. People were screaming and going nuts and he just got this big smile on his face. I think it really sucks he makes no effort to meet with is fans. You had to be there. It was like fucking Prince or something! But I did get to meet him yesterday so I shouldn't bitch too much. Anyway, here are some photos.

i was hoping they'd play with teef or home again but to no avail. at least i got to see two more songs i wanted to see this tour: the big comedown, getting smaller.

i will mention this now....
between half jack and girl A on the dresdEn dolls set brian did a march of the pigs tease. it was funny.

my friend and i parked a few blocks away like we did the previous night and went into the borders again to use the free public restroom. when we were going UP the escalator low and behold going down the esculator next to us was mr. JEORDIE WHITE...we said hey jeordie and he said hey and that was that. we would have pursued it or something but we're not "creepy must annoy someone famous" type of people...well maybe if i was drunk which i was not. and quite frankly we had to use the bathroom. when we went down he was in the magazine section reading....Revolver. :)

I just got back from the Orpheum. It was my first NIN concert and it definitely won't be my last. I had really crappy balcony seats and I could just barely see Trent, but it was a great show overall. I have just have one complaint about the fucking immature punks up in the balcony. Usually, I don't get mad at somebody for expressing themselves at a concert, but just don't fucking yell out "Yankees Suck" over and over again during "Hurt." I have been waiting a long time to see "Hurt" live, and that pretty much ruined it for me. I wasn't the only one feeling this way either, the people to the left and the right of me were also telling that kid to shut the hell up. Other than that... it was a great show.

Yeah, the drunken machismo factor was a little bit much tonight, but I did my best not to let it get me down. I've been to much worse shows.

Anyway, I have to say, having been to my first NIN show back in January 95, and having been to two others between then and now, you picked a pretty good time to go see them for the first time.

Edit: Total side note/question--Anyone have the setlist for the Dresden Dolls? I'm missing the 2nd, 5th, and 6th songs. The rest I knew. That'd be the song between Good Day and Coin Operated Boy and then the broken string song (Amsterdam?) and the "shoot me from my good side" song, both of which came between "War Pigs" and "Karma Police".

Edit 2: Found it on the Dolls' message board. In case anyone wanted it:

Good Day
Modern Moonlight (!!!)
Coin Operated Boy
War Pigs
Amsterdam (started, but brian broke a string on the guitar)
Gravity
Karma Police (w/Jerome of NIN)
1/2 Jack
March of the Pigs Tease
Girl A
I was in the orchestra left side, about fifteen rows back from the stage. Incredible show. The dynamic was so real and alive. I've seen the DVDs a million times, listened to all the halos a million more, but it wasn't the same as hearing their real voices.

I didn't hear the Yankees Suck chant since I was down below, but my friends on the balcony told me about it later. I hope that kid got pounded on his way out.

I wish I had my camera with me for a few shots...

They once again had a big light setup both on them and behind them. What I found interesting is that the system they used with it changed extensively for the time period of each song. TDS-era songs had the very electronic feel from that era. reptile featured chasing red and green patterns on the backdrop with white flares during the chorus downbeat with green floodlights on the band.
fragile-era songs had a lot of the "visualizer" type effects that were so present on the fragility tour. he didn't try to adapt all his songs to one theme like he did during that tour and they really benefitted from it.
the broken-EP songs didn't really use the backdrops other than the big "flare" type lights, but made heavy use of the strobes and floods like they have in the past. gave up was fucking intense with those. it felt like four minutes of staring into a strobe light.

Some of their old material they'd done live before was in a drastically new take though. Their new version of terrible lie was much more rock-style than the old electronic feel of the song, and the vocals came out much clearer because of it. the studio versions make it impossible to hear the "hey god" opening and close to the chorus. this version almost made it an emphasis.

several other songs featured a revised look, such as burn and reptile. it seemed like Trent went back to all his early 90's material and reworked how to perform it on a stage, and came out way better for it. These things sound way different than they did at fragility.

yea, that was awesome. everyone started screaming when he did that. he was drumming it at full speed (lp version) too. jerome played it later for nin at the typical 1/2 bpm for live drumming (you can find the the bpm listed on halo 7). the dresden doll drummer was just fantastic and quite amusing on stage. and it was nice to see jerome join in for karma police.

I really liked how You Know What You Are turned out live, and it was nice to finally hear Burn live (a personal favorite).

First night I was third row on the left side in front of twiggy. Second night first row mezzanie I guess. If you remember where that black lady was standing showing people to their seats I was front row of the section in front of her. It was nice. I wish I could switch seats with more people.

Over? Only getting started for me... hehe.

Dolls tonight near Albany...then NIN in NYC Philly, and then doll again in dc next Friday.

holy shit! the dolls impressed me. loved the war pigs cover. Brian was insane

NIN...word cannot discribe how i felt last night. The show was fuking intense, it was being beaten for 90 kinutes, and never letting up. my neck is killing me but im gld it hurts. the setlist was fucking awsome. so many great song...Getting Smaller was played that just great. i broke my seat hahaha. Burn rocked my face off. and for a split secon i thought they were gunna play Beside You In time...but it TDTWWWA, that done very well. You KNow What Are was jusut...dude all was just so fucking good...god-like. the lighting was so powerful. if anyone has a boot of this show, please send it my way. does anyone know what trent said after he said "I Just want to take a minute to say thank you.." cuz all drowned out by screaming fans. just fucking awsome!!!

I can't believe it's over either - wish I was going to NYC - too bad my best friend and fellow concert junkie moved to CA or I'd definitely be going to NYC!! Sigh...until the fall...

Can't even get over how awesome last night was - I am so happy that I decided to go - had to go it alone but you're never really alone at a show like that are you?!

Have to comment on a few posts - I saw the poet chick and company before the show changing on the side of the bus - I was talking with a friend and we thought it was youngsters having to change after leaving the house (like I used to do back in the day!) then when I came back to go into the show, I saw them in front of the bus reciting the poetry and thought to myself "WTF??!!" Wish I'd stuck around a little longer, probably would have seen them get doused - how funny!!

Also noticed Brian's breakout into MoTP and thought that was awesome!

Thought there was a lot more obnoxious yelling during Hurt - couldn't place most of it, but somehow I'm not suprised to learn it was a Yankees Suck chant - of course, I agree - the Yankees do suck, but there is a time and a place and most of the Boston frat boy crowd doesn't seem to understand that...sorry for anyone not from Boston for that - it's bad enough we have to deal with it on a regular basis at every event outside of Fenway Park!

The show totally rocked though and I'm so glad that I was able to go both nights!! Can't wait for the fall tour!!

Going to go hit the gym now and crank it up on my iPod so I can relive it all day!!
Master of the Ninth Arch
First of all....hi Jon! hi Izzy! Sorry your seats last night were so crappy...and hi Andi! Great seeing you before the show last night!

Thursday's show was great, no doubt about that, but Friday night blew me away--it had a couple of slower spots (which were good; I could try to give my feet a break and slug down some more of that $3.50 Poland Spring water), but all in all it was a totally cathartic experience, which I needed badly after getting a new asshole ripped at work that morning by my boss for slipping out early on Thursday to go to the theater with my basket of goodies. (Was upset at the time, and am now mostly pissed--yes, I should have handled things better, but there was no need to unload on me the way she did; her bitchy Jekyll-and-Hyde personality has been getting quite a workout ever since the election.) Anyway, getting to pound on the backs of the seats in front of me throughout the shows definitely made ME feel better, even if I do have Orpheum grunge still stuck under my nails. :-) I think the appropriate phrase here would be "rode hard and put up wet" for both audience and band; Trent seemed to be a LOT sweatier last night (although Julia thinks part of it was periodic baptisms of bottled water--BTW, we got sprayed by some of Aaron's water a couple of different times), and was utterly ringing wet by halfway through the set; while those of us out in the seats were left soggy, exhausted and (hopefully) satiated when it was all over. Whew...better than any sex I've ever had, that's for sure!

I won't do the set list, etc. because people with much better memories than me already did, but as for everything else...Thanks to a netfriend in the NIN entourage, my friend Julia and I were on the list for last night, and had even better seats than the ones we scalped on Thursday--Row OO center in the orchestra. (Apparently OO was the "nothing guest list" row, as we ended up talking to other people in it afterwards who were also on the list. ) These particular folks knew a crew member, and filled us in on a few details around the tour which go a long way to explaining Trent's speedy exit last night: (a) they left right away because they all wanted to get to NYC ASAP for a number of reasons, including wanting to get some rest and, alas (b) the ongoing legal mess, which is being hashed out mainly in New York, from the sound of things--apparently Trent has been having to fly in and out of there from various cities on the tour to deal with the whole sorry situation, poor bastard, so while it was disappointing that he and the rest of the gang didn't stick around, I do understand why, and I don't think it was intended to be fan-unfriendly. (This would explain why we didn't get aftershow passes from our connection, as he would have known they would be hauling ass out right away; a friendly security guy, however, did let us hang out with the rest of the passholders until we were all told that everyone had already left. Oh, well...would have been nice to thank my friend again, but I guess I'll just have to e-mail him.)

Fall down go boom now... *thump*

yes sir.

only problem is im a somewhat novice and for now just tape shit with my mp3 player...so the best i have to offer is mp3s at 192kbs no flacs or anything fancy...this place didn't do pat-downs so no problem getting my thing in so i decided to tape the second night..first night i was much closer in seats acting...drunk...and seeing NIN for the first time in 5 years :)

i'll get around to sharing it in a few days. im getting ready to see the dresden dolls on an off-nin show. and i'll be in NYC for some unknown reason the next two days ... who knows? ;)

I'll be looking forward to this when/if it makes the rounds. The closest thing I've ever heard to a bootleg of a show I was actually at are the recordings from MSG of NIN with Adam Ant in 1995, which were recorded the night after I saw them in Worcester. So, I'm dying to hear what you got, regardless of quality.

don't worry i tape dd shows. i've seen them 13 times and that was my fifth time taping them...ive been a huge fan of theirs for a while now. yeah i taped nin's set. don't know about nyc...i doubt i'll be able too...i havent gotten up to the stealthing mode yet. as i said previously they barely looked at people at the door in boston so it was no problem getting my stuff in the second night knowing they didn't look at me the first night. this time around we'll be in nyc and they're usually somewhat strict there.
Hey guys,
just wanted to say hi and I went to both show's thrusday and friday. They were both awesome, friday totally rocked because my friend and I got to take home water trent drank and handed to us. Also he gave us the mic to sing the rest of march of the pigs. I was also to obtain trent NIN guitar pic, and twiggy was so adorable. I thought it was suprising during closer he got on that little stand and started to gyrate in front of me. I felt like ok I just died.

here's are some picture I took from thursday show opinion are welcome. link
hey there...

I was able to video a few dd songs (coin operated toy and war pigs) and most of the NIN set. There were cameras everyone. Some asshole event staffer wanted to eject me for the taping the show. Eventually I gave thim the batteries to my camera and he left me alone. Luckily I had another set of batteries and kept filming.

I also have an eztra lithograph if anyone did not get one.

I will not be able to post pics until I return home to Florida (prob Monday night) but check back and I will post where they are.

Eventually I gave thim the batteries to my camera and he left me alone. Luckily I had another set of batteries and kept filming.

I also have an eztra lithograph if anyone did not get one.

I will not be able to post pics until I return home to Florida (prob Monday night) but check back and I will post where they are.

or email me...

what happened to everyday is exactly the same. did it sound like shit? why did they stop playing it, they didnt cut any other songs. i know it goes with the other set list but where did it go
Master of the Ninth Arch
Hey, well i had much better seats for the second show. being relatively close to the band was eerie and sorta gave me deja vu from watching the live DVD so much. it was hard to believe that I was actually there.

it's hard to believe i have the oppurtunity to see the band 3 times. (third show tomorrow in NYC)

Well we heard some commotion in the back and saw some guards running outside. one of them said 'back alley this time!' so my friend said that we should go to the back and see if we can see anyone and i thought it would be neat. there was already a bit of a crowd when we got there...maybe 30 people. the 2 guardrails (1 on each side of the exit of the alley - and where I wanted to be) were both filled up so I didn't bother there. we waited a while and then a bunch of guards came out and walked briskly to the tour-bus and sure enough, it was trent they were all trying to hide. some nerd tried to rush them as they were getting onto the bus and it looked like he got roughed up a tad...if you're reading this, said nerd, you're a tool and the reason they have to take such precautions.

my camera fucked up and I didn't get a very good shot of trent getting on. he's in the pic I took, it's just difficult to tell which person he is

the other shots are of aaron (i think that's him at least) and jerome and as you can see in the pics, they weren't anywhere near as precautious as they were with trent, and I guess for good reason since no one said anything and I seemed to be one of the few who even took a picture. Oh well, i thought it was cool to get some shots of the band leaving. a great ending to a great 2 nights up in boston. hopefully i won't screw up putting these pictures in so you can all see them...

just wanted to say hi and I went to both show's thrusday and friday. I felt like ok I just died.

here's are some picture I took from thursday show opinion are welcome. link
piggy

but who's counting? ;)

yeah i saw you holding that mic and singing your little heart out all the way up in the balcony. good job.

it made me smile when trent gave out two or three waterbottles to you people for singing too.

fieryredfairy21 is your pic red? i got trent's pic on thursday night so i'm wondering if you got the same one. sounds like you had an awsome time!

I'm the other friend. Heh. I honestly couldn't believe it when Trent handed the mic to me. Piggy is quite possibly one of my all time favorite NIN songs so the whole experience is probably going to go down as one of the best memories in my lifetime.

The water thing was great too. He actually came back around and handed me another bottle later on during the show. That one I shared with the people behind me. Didn't want to be too greedy. ;)

What an amazing show. The man has definitely not lost his touch. Not one single bit.

very cool. you should have saved the other bottle of water for when jeordie, alex, and aaron threw water at each other during thtf. that was so funny to watch. i was like what the fuck are they doing?!

another cool moment during the show was march of the pigs. in the second verse trent threw his mic stand about 10-15 feet in the air instead of singing and ran around stand getting wires around jeordie...he launched a bottle of water into the balcony about 2 rows directly behind me...it was a nut house :)

Ben,
you said you tape DD. Did you get anything of them covering karma police? I really wanna hear/see it.
Master of the Ninth Arch
I came from the Middle of the Quebec to see NIN in Boston for the first time in my whole life. I was fuckin destroyed!!! Let me say too that the setlist was flawless. I was thinking that he will play WT, i wanted to see Trent tambouring (i fuckin' dig that song live, saw it one time on a video bootleg) but they didn't so i didn't care enought especially because they played Reptile tight and TDTWWA (personals live favourites). Hoped they begin with BYIT as an intro then The Frail and The Wetched, so i was destroyed right at the beginning. What an intro to a show with a so fuckin' much rockin' songs! I'm fucked!!!!
Here is a pic of me and Amanda before the show. She is a cutie.

I taped friday also....screwed up and did not get HEAD LIKE A HOLE though. Also the sound was a bit much for my mics ( sonic studios and no bass roll off ) at times...I was like 10 rows back in front of the left stack. But if you turn the bass down a tad it sounds pretty good for the most part. Also got the Dolls set intact.
I saw the message about the bootleg page but can't find it. I'm new around these parts, but would be happy to sawp and trade the show.
Fourth time seeing them and it may have been my favorite.

hay would the fragile CRC sessions be any worth to trade for the show? i was there friday too so

Heh, I totally forgot Trent tossed the mic stand during March of the Pigs. That thing did a mid-air cartwheel. I have some amazing pics that I will post when I find out how to compress them. They are all 500kb plus.

I'm not going to sit here and go on about how awesome the show was. All I can say is 5 years of waiting is now over. It's so bittersweet. I'm so happy the show was so amazing. But... It's sad. I really have nothing that meant that much to me to look forward to. =/

Now I have a crazy throat problem... it's just like really swollen... took a few days, but my throat is a mess. from screaming so god damned loud. The guys infront of me were probably like "Is that coming from a girl???" lol

Anyone going to the Dresden Dolls June 7th show at Avalon? I just might be there
Master Traveler
my first nin show and it was unreal. i was on cloud nine. the new take on closer is insane live, way better than could be captured by bootlegs. i hope for a dvd or something in the future with a quality version of this.

by the way, did anybody get it recorded? i've heard a lot about it, but so far have seen no bootleg.
Still can't believe Trent played 'Time and Chance' during the encore.

I wonder if she'd give up her photo pass?
Heh!

where is the bootleg from that show?

trent saying "actually, i do feel a lot better." during march of the pigs touched me on a personal level for some reason. hard to explain. throwing the mic stand and then the mic on beat was a nice touch. aaron was excellent. he's more the kind of musician i'm used to seeing/being, jumping around, swinging his guitar and doing kicks. jeordie had a pissy attitude all night (or at least it seemed that way to me) and at one point i think the jack came out of his bass, and instead of reaching all the way down there to plug it back in he turned to one of the tech guys and clearly said "what the fuck?". then he just stood there with his arms out until the tech ran over and fixed it.

jeordie's little-girl attitude aside, this was the best show i've ever seen.

by the way, what was with that empty cab onstage that no one was using? was that there just for aaron to throw his guitar at?
I felt that too gnv when he said that. Terrible Lie was awesome. Just got back from the Berlin show. Boston to Berlin, not a bad trek to see NIN.

Anybody grab an extra litho? Will send you tons of good karma and some $.
