How long did we stand around waiting for them to fix the sound? I think it was at LEAST 30 minutes. Seemed like it, anyway. It was one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced at a show.
All of us in my area think something blew on the sound board. ("Somebody go get another fuse!!")
The part where they were testing the sound was funny.... "Left" "Right" "Left" "Right" and we were all going "ooo, this show's gonna be in STEREO!" and pretending that we were dyslexic... okay, which is my left, again? driver's side?
Then Ozzy Ozbourne came out and apologized and said something about them fixing things but we'd already figured that out, thanks Ozzy.
Another funny part: During the first two songs, the guys around me were [sarcastically] saying, "shhhhhhh, everybody be quiet, so we can
hear," so everybody around us started saying that, except for the guys in front of me yelling, "this fucking sucks! we can't fucking hear you!" Haha.
After they "fixed" the sound, it was still not very loud as far as rock shows go.
I was in the middle and center of the pit, just behind the moshing area that would break out every so often, mostly instigated by this guy with no shirt who was both drunk and apparently on CRACK (with that wild-eyed "my head is gonna explode" look) and I must say that the highlight of the evening for me and the 19-yr-old girl next to me from Portage Indiana, who'd obtained one ticket via her b/f saving up money to buy her a $120.00 ticket was, her words, "I've never been to a concert with so many fucking short people! This rocks!" Seriously, we could see a lot of the stage, and a lot of Reznor, through most of the NIN set, which is really weird. There were only a few tall guys around us in our area, and they were quickly shoved to the side; it was like a short people revolution.
God DAMN I was hot and sweaty in that pit. It was like a sauna. My jumping around alot aerobically probably didn't help. Lots of fun.
Right after the show, we went to the drive-thru at McDonalds on Milwaukee (I hadn't eaten, literally, all day, and I wanted a Chicken McGrill), and it was still relatively early and really nice outside, so we headed over to Exit.
(I hate the DJ at Exit on Friday nights, please remind me to never go there again on Friday, please, thank you... sorry, I digress...)
Anyway, we started off over by the High Voltage fence, watching bad goth dancing, but we got bored and headed over to the bar over by the stairs, and we sat at the bar shooting the shit with the really nice uber-Goth bartender chick (who was bitching that she couldn't get any NIN tickets without spending entirely too much money), and we were growing more bored and were just about to leave... It was around 1 am...
I looked over and told Beavis, "hey, Beavis, Jeordie is standing behind you."
Beavis said, "who??"
"You know, Twiggy Ramirez."
"Oh..." He looks over... "yeah."
"Hey, Beavis, now Jerome Dillon is standing behind you."
Him: "Who? Oh, is he the drummer?"
"Yes"
Him: "Oh. Yeah. I gotta pee."
Then Jeordie jammed next to Beavis' seat, and the ultra-Goth-bartender chick was flirting with Jeordie, and Beavis said she tried to buy Jeordie a drink but he politely declined. Then Beavis went to the bathroom and Jerome came over next to me and ordered something that looked like beer with a friggin' LEMON in it, yeck.
They were with a guy who looked REALLY familiar to me and it's bugging me, now, and we kept looking at each other, but I just can't place him...
Anyway, they got bored after about, like, 4 minutes, and Jerome returned a barely-touched drink to the bar and they all left.
Just then, Beavis returned from the bathroom and said, "you wanna split?" and we did, and we saw those three waiting for a car out on North Avenue.
We woulda offered them a ride but the thought of Jerome trying to squeeze himself into the back seat of my car was just too funny...
Weird. "When Worlds Collide."
Oh, regarding parking: They had a few homemade pay lots last night. We parked over on California near Fullerton. (A few blocks from the Logan Square Starfucks, there was a Lexus in front of me and behind me, so I didn't worry about leaving my car, tons of street parking over there.)
Oh, and some guy at Exit dropped one of those [With_Teeth] album-cover-poster thingies on the floor by the Men's room and he didn't care so I picked it up, dusted it off, and now it's taped to my wall, after barely escaping Beavis' fake-Red-Bull getting sloshed on it.
