tonight was pretty kick ass. it was the fairly normal set list with Mr Self Destruct, Deep and EDIETS. I have seen NIN many many times and let me say that Josh Freese kicks ass. He deviates a bit from the drum riffs we all know, but not too much that things sound strange. He definitely adds his own style to each song. Seeing them in an arena like this is a lot less intense then somewhere like the Reno/Davis type places, but tonight was great anyway.

Awesome show. Everything I wanted and more. The crowd was really rough tonight, at least compared to DC. Very redneck. I started out pretty much in the middle of the floor, but the asshole who yelled "WOOOOOOOO" when Saul Williams asked us if we agreed that VA was a confederate state was standing next to me at the time, and just to get the fuck away from him as fast as possible I wound up going closer to the stage. I ended up pretty close to the rail in front of Trent during the show, but I was fighting people so much (I'm 5'4" and 100 pounds on a heavy day) that I moved between Trent and Aaron and was much happier.

Can't recall the setlist at the moment...Home was played, as well as The Big Comedown.

i don't think i missed anything, maybe one. i think this show was better than dc in november. for one, josh is the fucking man! he is a maniac on the drums and i think he is the caveman that trent said he was originally looking for. was anyone close enough to see what was on josh's face? from where i was, all i could see was really big black eyebrows, not what he usually looks like or what he looked like earlier in the day. i got over 100 pics on my digital camera (some really good shots), i'll post some tomorrow night, but will probably post a ton after the greenville show while i'll also be going to. trent certainly put on a good show, we even got a little speech in the last part of the set.

The contents of your set list match mine, Trollman. Nothing's missing as far as I can see. Josh had black rectangles for eyebrows, and what looked like a fu-manchu moustache. The mosh pit was amazing, but... moshing to Something I Can Never Have? Bonus points to Richmond's Coliseum for having a ceiling like a mandala.

oh yeah, saul williams was pretty cool. i think he got a better response from the crowd tonight than from what other people have been saying about the audience reaction. he only played for 30 minues, i would have enjoyed a little more. he has some really cool and insightful things to say and has a good message to put out there.

He did have a mohawk, and possibly a string of hair in the back. What was homegrown and what was taped on I can't say, with the exception of the eyebrows, which were definitely fake.

As for Saul Williams, he (and his DJ) put in an excellent performance. Everyone around me had good things to say, and some were blown away, but noone around me was moving at all. Oh well, more moving room for me!

Also, did anyone notice the fighting in the middle of the pit during one of the songs? 4 or 5 guys cleared out a wide circle and started... fighting? Does this usually happen in a mosh pit? (first timer)

That show kicked much ass! Saul Williams was better than I had expected, and Trent and the boys delivered as usual. This time I was pretty sober and I stayed out of the pit, so I managed to actually "watch" the entire show and understand wtf was goign on. Glad I did since I didn't miss Trent out in the crowed, or when he gave Satan the mic.

One thing though...if I never see "Every Day is Exactly The Same" live again, I'm not going to miss it. It felt really out of place in that set.

Great show. Trent did give a little speech and a lot of thank yous. Trent & co were very energetic, and Josh Freese fucking OWNS the drums. Setlist looks accurate...(I think). I'm tired from the drive and being up since 5:30...kind of zombie like right now.
I was upset about not being able to see the souncheck, I was a guest of a standard Spiral member and only premium got in...but I guess Trent decided to do it last minute, so what can ya do?
Hearing The Big Come Down made me forget all about it, one of my favorites. My pics turned out shitty, so I'm not going to post them. A friend of mine got some truly incredible pics, including some fucking awesome ones of Trent in the crowd. Hopefully she'll post them.
Saul Williams was amazing. I like him even better now that I've seen him live. He was pretty well received.
Can't wait to do it all again at Nissan Pavillon this summer, up next to the stage. Fuck seats!

THE ICE KING RULZ!

That was my seventh show of this tour (and the last one until summer) and it was one of the best. It seems that we usually get "angry Trent" but last night he was in a really good mood. The setlist was fine, everyone played well and the crowd was energetic. The ICE KING and I were quite pleased.

I don't even know where to begin... Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails put on a hell of a show in Richmond, VA. Saul Williams came out and asked the crowd, "Is this really a confederate state?" and the whole crowd responded, "YES!!!"... Nine Inch Nails came out around 8:30ish and freaking crushed for an hour and a half. Trent stepped out in the crowd for the song piggy, I went crowd surfing, trying to get there, but the security guards pulled me off the crowd, and redirected me...So I found my way to my cousin who had also gone crowd-surfing to get closer. While playing Right Where It Belongs, a video was also playing, a video with a lot of emotional images. I will continue this sometime soon , i am pooped....

I want to apologize to the people that came from out of town. Richmond is a shithole. Sorry. The show rocked. Saul was awesome. Trent seemed to be having fun. Great setlist...I think this beat out Atlantic City easily.

I got to see the show last night in Richmond....and Saul was amazing. I saw him last year at the 9:30 club and he played a lot more stuff off older albums than last night, but don't get me wrong...I still loved it. I was also disappointed that he only played for about 30 minutes, it was over way to quick. Also, I could hear people in the crowd around me booing. F- you. People are so quick to judge and aren't willing to expand their music tastes, and yet when Saul did Shakespeare the same people clapped and applauded when the crowd did. Then went right back to talking shit. If you don't like it.....leave the floor, go kill yourself in the bathroom, but don't stand there like an idiot and trash talk the artist. Stupid ignorant pricks.

Sorry, but i really was really disappointed that there are fans like that. that......and I really just needed to vent. I guess to each his own.

Awesome show. Great setlist. Lots of the little "goodies" I like to hear (Home, Deep, Piggy) I was definitely not expecting the Pilgrimmage>selfdestruct opener after the band had played it 3 straight nights. Maybe this is the end of the LINE opener? I also was stoked to hear DEEP!!!! This was my first time hearing this one live. The band was very energetic for Deep and it was better than I hoped! They played it the night before so I was pretty damn sure we weren't going to get it but we did! I only caught the end of Saul's set but it seemed pretty cool. This was my ninth show overall and it was a great one. The crowd was very cool, with the exception of 2 or 3 total fucking redneck assholes.

Awesome show..... The end of Right where it belongs the videos on the screen really did raise emotions. I wont give it away for people that havent seen it. I cant believe they announced a show at Nissan. 10 mins from my parents house, see everyone there. Best damn show to come to manassas since they came during the NineDavidInchBowieNails tour.

Am I the ONLY one who was slightly dissapointed? I mean, I thought it was awesome, but not as awesome as I thought it would be. I thought the floor was kindof lame, not that many people were moshing near me. I mustof picked a bad spot on the floor. Did anyone else notcied any audio problems during march of the pigs, and piggy? The big come down was KICK ASS. something I can never have was great to hear too.

It was great to finally see NIN live. (despite all my complaints,really)

Amazing show, I was righ in between Trent and Jeordie. Freese sounded so good, anyone noticed his HUGE fake goatee with the his fake thick eye brows? Trent seems really happy last night he threw his mic to the crowd twice one during march of the pigs and while the security was trying to reach for the mic trent threw at least 6 water bottles at them then he looked at his bodyguard and started to laugh The second one was during Suck, and the guy was able to catch it and he sang "Suck suck suck suck" with the band for about 10 seoonds he made it sound all 'death metal' with that deep voice he had. Hah.

Best part was during Piggy, the lights went out and I couldn't see anything and I felt somebody right in front me but I thought it was the security guard,then I heard "Hey pig" lights went on and holy shit trent reznor right in front of me and somehow my hand ended up on his chest........ haha.

AND I got another soundcheck.

All in all, amazing show.

That show was absofuckinglutely amazing. This was my first time seeing them and i wasnt dissappointed. Saul Williams was pretty good, i came in open minded and wasnt disappointed. His dj looked weird as hell, but he layed down sum really good beats. I ended up like 7 or 8 back right in front of jeordie and where i was we ended up moshing almost every song, im still sore from jumping and pushing for almost 2 hours. Terrible Lie was amazing just like i knew it was gonna be. Suck was crazy. Head like a hole was nuts. I really enjoyed the 3 songs they played w/ the screen down. Especially the line begins to blur. There really wasnt any bad song, there were obviously ones i would rather hear than some they chose, but it was still a tight set. And all the shit on stage made it looks amazing. Really wasnt expecting deep, but gotta love that bassline that shakes ur whole body. And now im def thinkin about see them this summer, but i dunno if seeing them at an amphitheater could touch seeing them in an arena 10 yards away. I got sum pics w/ a disposable but they could turn out like shit so i dunno. Next time im bringin my digital since they dont give a shit about cameras. If anyone has sum good pics could u upload them, i might try and upload the audio clip i have of hurt, u can hear me and my friend singing along better than u can hear trent at times. And TLBTB and RWIB both ended up distorted as hell b/c of all the bass covering up the vocals. I judge concerts on whether i would want to see them again, and as far as nin its not if i want to, its when i will get to. That tops every concert ive ever seen and i have to see them again.

Did anyone else see that guy cut thru the crowd before the show start, spill beer on sum girl, then lick it off of her, then her bf get pissed as shit and almost start a fight. Kinda awkward.

Richmond kicked serious ass!

Bought tickets 2hours before the show. The seats were right on the side of the stage! Great view and close! After the 5th song moved to the back center of the arena.

thats all i needed to hear. The set list was great. Nice not to hear Reptile or the Wretched for once. Arron was great to watch as well as Josh. Josh's drumming was hard and heavy with conviction!

Great show. After seeing the Milwaukee and Chicago shows....i'd say that NIN keeps getting better live.(any live recording of this show plz pm me)

oh ya........did anyone else hear Trent after Suck?

TR threw the mic out into the crowd and some kid was singing "How Does It Feel" all Korn style durning the song Suck.

At least he was in tune and on time.Great F***ing show!

What a fucking show....I drove down from Pennsylvania with my friend (we live right outside the Reading area) .... Saul Williams was the shit..alot better than I could have expected..his DJ was the shit aswell...and NIN was fucking Great!!!!! I was up at the front mostly on Aaron's side but a couple times I shifted to the middle...it was fucking awesome that Trent came down to the crowd...Josh is the motherfucking Man he is better than Jerome, Im glad he is on board...this was my second show since the With Teeth Tour started last year, my first was at home in Seattle..and it was awesome that they played some songs that they didnt then like The Big comedown, Piggy, Mr. Self Destruct, Home, Everyday is Exactly the same, and Suck...I was very pleased and the crowd seemed really into it ..so did the band...The Seattle show was pretty full, but here in Richmond there was a good size crowd as well....It was worth the drive down and more..hopefully I can catch them again this summer... this was def one of my fave shows ever....I also liked it in the end when they threw their guitars up and stuff.. Aaron is one crazy motherfucker im also glad he is in the band...Thank you NIN!!! and hopefully I cant catch you guys again cuz you are the best band ever!!!....

To coldwinter, Richmond is the biggest shithole I've ever seen, and I've seen a few. I love all the one way streets and people parking right in the middle of the street, heh. I also managed to bypass the coliseum about 3 times and ended up in the scummy backstreets. I was scared and I don't scare easily...let's just say I rolled up my windows and locked the doors.

The venue doesn't suck for an outdoor arena, but getting in and out is a fucking nightmare. I'm moving next month and will be about six miles away from Nissan, so I plan to take back roads and avoid I-66. Traffic getting into Nissan often backs up from the exit several miles. Getting out can take an hour or more. Park as close to an exit as you can.

I also agree that it was a great show in pit of a town. I spent the last of my cash on parking because they don't take credit/debit cards at parking garages! Primitive.

I had an absolute blast at this show. I had great seats (thanks!!!) and everything was just amazing.

Mr. Self Destruct was a great opener. I had forgotten that they were playing it on this leg until Sheryl taught me the mic stand trick (4=MSD).

A wonderful setlist. The Big Come Down was awesome. I had heard the CRC version, and I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was.

This was my first show seeing JOSH FREESE on the drums, and he is amazing. I was a Jermoe fan, but man, Freese murders those drums. Gave Up was insane. The whole performance was great. The production and band has come together so well, it's no surprise they're continuing on the tour. Amazing.

Not too bad a drive...like 45 minutes. Regardless, there's absolutely no way I'm going to miss this show!

I was (am) a big Jerome Dillon fan as well. Josh Freese just blows me away though. I think "murdered" is a good analogy. He was pounding those drums so hard I thought they were going to explode. I was impressed with him when I saw him with APC, but I think playing with NIN has taken him to a new level. This is just a fantastic line-up.
I can't say enough about how blown away I was with this show. I'm still hoarse..I loved how you could hear EVERYONE singing, it was surreal.

Hehehe, now I know who Satan is. We noticed him in the pit before the show started. He had the whole Manson, goth thing going on. I kept thinking it must be him singing during Piggy. Trent must have been quite amused if he kept throwing him the mic.

Charming anecdote from the pit: Between Saul and NIN, there was this mid-40's looking dad with his 14 year old son and a bunch of his young whippersnapper friends standing in front of me. I guess the dad was trying to be cool and reclaim his rock n' roll youth by smoking a joint and passing it around to all the kids. But, after a minute or so, when the pot started to kick in, two of the boys started getting really goofy and kind of started falling all over eachother and then started to make out. The dad's reaction was PRICELESS...this very slow-motion "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" and look of utter and absolute horror came across his face and it made me laugh for a good ten minutes.

NINsullen, sorry you had to witness the full effect of the shithole I have to call home.

During Eraser, did anybody else notice the old guy popping out of the swimming pool? I went to the Atlanta show last October and totally didn't notice that. Cracked me up.

In fact, the entire band cracked me up. They just seemed like they were having a good time, & Josh's fake eyebrows/mustache had me rolling. Great show. I was so surprised by the inclusion of Home that it took me 45 seconds or so to figure out what it was.

Now if only I can get out to Colorado to see them at Red Rocks in May...Then I could die Happy.

honestly i didnt know it was home until i realized that i didnt recognize the intro. I had to see the setlist until i knew it was home. I thought it was just some fucked up intro to wish. So who is this random hero who sang like the devil. R u talkin about the dude in the god is nowhere marilyn manson tshirt or some dude who looked like manson. b/c honestly i saw about 50 ppl who could have passed as manson while we were all sitting on the floor waiting for the show to start. Anyone got pics. Mine turned out like shit b/c i had a disposable camera, piece of shit.

whoo, soo much fun.. i wish i could relive the show all over again. hopefully we'll be able to hit red rocks in may, definitely will check out va beach/d.c. this summer.

i'm desperate for some pix/video, b/c i so very lamely didn't bring my camera- i'm kicking myself in the a** b/c i managed to be right in front, and when trent first came down during piggy, he stood right smack dab square in front of me- ahh! btw, Burlesk, you must have been besides me if we both got to lay our hands on him when he first came down to the crowd i not only laid my hands on him, i HELD his hand- i still don't know how that happened, but it did, mmmm.

the funniest thing is, my arm also got stuck between his legs- whoops! the crowd was squashing me and i couldn't get my arm out for the life of me- the security guys kept smacking my hand, i guess they thought i was trying to cop a feel again, if anyone has pix/video, it'd be so sweet if they could post it or PM me

so funny this guy got famous overnight. He really made my night. I kept looking up on the stage to see if we had a special guest cuz he really sounded awesome. I'm not into the growling vocal but dude fucking nailed it! And then TR's comment made it fucking classic.

Good luck to this band! I hope they find some new fans checking them out!

there was a bootleg dvd on ebay, search under "nine inch nails richmond". i dunno if it's any good. it was 14 bux tho. i'm so cheesy, i bought one this morning there goes 14 bucks of hard earned money... probably for a hodgepodge of grainy, blurry crap. but oy, i just checked- there were 5 left this morning, and now the seller is out! they may make more copies soon, you could get in touch with them and ask, maybe? hope that was some help.

josh freese had electrical tape on his face and though he didn't wear them onstage, he had celery stalks above his arms in the armholes of his shirt,
and I just like to say "Satan", you did an excellent job singing Piggy while Trent was being engulfed by the crowd.

I got one of the dvd's as well. I was blown away to see how fast it was already up on ebay. so who knows? We shall see. Hope to relive an amazing concert.

The pictures are great. i was very looking forward to getting the dvd, but i was extremely disappointed with the quality and sound. It's horrible, if you're looking for a momento from this spectacular show, don't get this dvd on ebay.

one of the best shows i've seen in a long time. it was my first time seeing nin live but i've been a fan since 1994/95. I drove from Baltimore (about 3 hrs away) and it was definitely worth it. the visuals, sound and performance all meshed and was top notch. its great to see that trent is out there utilizing the latest technology to enhance the live shows -- when i say that i'm referring mostly to the screens / video production and the DigiDesign Venue FOH system they are taking on the road with them, which allows them to use just about every aspect of ProTools software live (automation, plug-ins, etc). As far as the performance goes, i was definitely not let down. Trent never forgot the lyrics and was in his element the whole night as was the rest of the band for the most part. you would never be able to tell he was 40 years old judging from his energy during the show. my favorite parts of the show were Something I Can Never Have and the Eraser - Right Where It Belongs - Beside You In Time section of the show with the video projection screen. The video was well put together and made a strong statement politically and on a human level without being annoyingly blatent like Eddie Vedder going on a 10 min. tangent onstage about condoms. I had floor tickets... I 'm not a fan of moshing or getting physical at concerts so i stood in the back near the soundman. besides i was curious to see the venue system and what other gear they were using to mix the show. one thing i didn't like was that the crowd ruined "hurt" for me, because they kept yelling stupid shit during the quiet parts. but i guess that is expected at a rock show. all in all a great experience and i will be getting tickets to see them again in DC / Virginia Beach this summer.

You guys are being a little hard on Richmond, dont you think? I guess a lot of you probably live in the nice-white-safe-suburbs, but as far as cities go...it's not half-bad.

I was there, show was awesome!! I want someone to torrent the DVD even if it is shitty. I've spent hours downloading VHS to DVD shows from the '94 tour and have NEVER been disappointed! I heard about the Motley Crue blip in the DVD but that's easily remedied. Honestly, it could be a video of someone in the crowd getting a rectal exam with the show in the background and I'd still want it!!

BTW - Richmond's not that bad...but I wouldn't hang in that area too long after dark. Head on over to the riverfront area that they refurbished for the fucking yuppies and you'd think you were in a different city...and lets face it - suburbs are suburbs...what else can you do with them?

Regarding the audio on the DVD... it's like listening to the show underwater. That said, the video is frequently decent, capturing facial expressions and plenty of on-stage mayhem, and the general feel of the light show is there. There's also lots of pit coverage, adding a personal touch to the whole thing... I had fun finding myself in one of the shots. : )

Verdict: If this was your show, download it. If it wasn't your show, you can almost certainly find something better.

i dug up the richmond dvd after not having looked at it for a while. the picture quality is better than i remember it being, but the sound isn't good at all. after analyzing the audio, i think i can make this show sound a lot better, at least so it's listenable. it might take a while, but i'm planning on fixing up the audio and reauthoring the dvd, giving it menus and getting rid of that dude at the beginning filming himself in the mirror.

the dvd is still going to happen, just need to beef up on how to do the process. in the mean time, i've uploaded some pictures from the richmond and greensville shows to flickr:
