great show! set list was shorter than richmond, but there was a bit more energy from the band. i'll get the exact setlist later, but they opened with love is not enough, then raised the curtain and played mr. self-destruct, which was awesome! we also got sin, dead souls and reptile, nothing from the fragile and the rest was standard stuff. i'll post some pics later too.

Thats right, motherfuckers, we got BOTH openers!!

The pits had energy, but the rest of the crowd was kinda tame. Not many goths, but a lot of skuzzy metalheads. I felt weird being the only one it a pit not dressed in black, but it was still cool.

Aaron had a black x of electrical tape on his face, and Josh had electrical tape eye-brows and fu-Manchu 'stache and goatee, but he lost everything but the eyebrows somewhere along the way.

The show was great and Trent complemented the crowd, saying that he keeps seeing the same 10 people in the front. He then asked if they were going to follow him down to Miami to see them play "with a bunch of shitty bands.....wait, did he just say Rob Zombie sucks...yes I did."

Sound in the arena kinda sucked, but having seen NIN live before, I know it wasn't the bands fault.

Only fucking rocks live .... unbelievable.

the show was awesome, having both openers was awesome! i really like the pinion intro a lot better than the pilgramige one. feeling the bass in pinion was awesome. the show was great, but i didn' expect any less!

What a shit setlist...the crowd was decent and the band seemed to be in good form. TR even gave a blurb about writing new music and he was enjoying himself. Then he went on to talk some shit about the Global Gathering festival and all the other bands suck...even Rob Zombie!

Ok I just got back from the show, this being my 5th and here comes my Honest Reveiew, no bullshit...as usual:

Saul Williams: Ok I'm going to say GOOD and BAD things about him so before you freak out read it all. I feel I will make good points and i'm interested in your responses.

#1. It's embarassing and ridiculous for any musician of any musical style to get on stage with a mic and a second hand who presses buttons (play and stop) The DJ was also doing beat hits/snaps as well as spinning the wheel but his performance, from a musical perspective, would have had much more density and power with live musicians.

#2. One of the songs he performed is entitled "True Black." Now for you morons out there who don't know, this promotes racism. How well do you think it would roll over for a white 24 male (myself) and my band to go out and write a song called "True White" and write about the same subject matter but switch the color of skin. It's childish and is a sign of weakness. Some of you may say that it is called for because he is black and maybe his ancestors were slaves. I got news for you people... white, chinese, mexicans have all been slaves pre revolutionary war...read your history books, they're called indentured slaves. My point simply is this, we live in a free world as of status quo so stop bitching about the past. It's over, it's a tired subject...DROP IT!

#3. The DJ was fooling no one acting as if he was singing the backup vocals because sometimes (most times) he would miss he cues and then it just seemed like a stage act. Boo!!!

Ok now for positives:

#1. Great beats, strong music but lacks appropriate message.

#2. Great stage prescence and dynamic voice, but god does he need live musicians.

For all of you that might turn this against me to make it seem like i'm a racist, don't. You'll be making a fool of yourself.

Now for the real deal:

Nine Inch Nails:

Setlist is 100% on (sadly to say) because for the past year the name of this tour has been "Every Setlist is exactly the same." If anyone of you ever has a band and you get popular - DON'T DO THIS. Play it all and make all songs available to play by having your "SPIRAL" members vote for the stelist here and there out of your whole catalgue.

#1. Great energy on stage

#2. Killer lights though they don't come close to fragility or self destruct days.

#3. Out of the 9 shows i've seen Nine Inch Nails play this was by far the worst and thats a good thing because while they still were excellent the set is lacking originality, actually it's screaming/begging for it. Also the lights are of lower value, everyone who is a guitarist misses Robin.

#4. Highlight of the night???? Easy...Josh freese. Period, he's far better drummer than the last guy and defintely jerome and is by far the most boring drummer ever. I felt embarassed for him every night they toured with the dresden dolls. Oh Mr. Self destruct + dead souls were highlights.

#5. Trent said the band has been working on new material and are planning to record it, that was nice to hear. Also he thanked the crowd many times over and said we were a great crowd (though the 10,000 arena was 70% full...for you non math majors thats 7,000 :)

#6. Did anyone else notice Josh did his intro drum part to march of the pigs one measure to early so the whole song the lights were off by one measure? God i was hoping someone else noticed that.

#7. It was funny as hell watching Trent about to kill over in laughter when he trhew the mics into the crowd and heard these terrible girls singing. Girls singing Nin doesn't sound rightl, especially when you're 14 going 12. Trent almost lost it though.

#8. Boo of the night goes to the chick in the back with a glow stick during hurt. Need I say more? Lighters are acceptable defintely, but a fucking glow stick? This isn't a rave.

During head like a hole my nose decided to burst in blood for no reason, probably due to sinus infection as of recent. So no ending remarks other than I mean everything I said.

For Nin I give show it's worst rating out of the 9 I've seen but seriously people it's Nin and when Nin shows aren't up to par or might be bad they're still pretty damn good. Let the flames begin!

Let me sum it up for you.

For this being your first nin show: It was awersome

If this was your 2nd or third then it wasn't near as good, especially if those other two or three had been in the same year because you basically saw the same damn thing everytime.

Tonight being my 15th show this tour...yes it was shit if you stack it up to the other nights.

Its too bad Saul has to play in the south in front of idiot rednecks who post idiotic comments on message boards.

ha!@comparing "indentured servants" not slaves to actual slaves. There is a huge difference between the two. Indentured servants actually got paid in some form or another whether it be travel expense to a country or whatever. Also after their certain amount of time was up, indentured servants were free to go. Oh, and another thing, many indentured servants chose to become one and some would even quit before they finished their job. You, sir, read your history books. With that said, I don't expect you to understand Saul Williams, and that is not a knock on your intelligence. I don't understand Will Ferrell's comedic appeal. So I guess we all have our quirks. It's not promoting racism, quite the opposite actually. I think you are hearing the words but not listening to them. You are entitled to your opinion though. With that said I enjoyed Saul Williams quite a bit. I do, however, agree with your suggestion for him to include live musicians.

As far NIN. I agree that the crowd was very mild-mannered. Some even looked around clueless to tracks like Burn and Dead Souls. The pit seemed to have energy though. I didn't think this was the worst NIN show I've seen. The inclusion of Sin, Mr. Self Destruct and Dead Souls was enough for me not to rated the worst. Considering some of the setlist I've seen from previous shows on this Tour, and shows I've been to, I think we made out pretty well. And ha!@the horrid singing by that one girl. Eh, that probably made her life. I agree with you about the highlights of the night being Mr. Self Destruct and Dead Souls. And I, in many ways, agree with you about set list montany but for the other 90% of the people who maybe just casual fans or can't follow NIN around the nation, it would suck to them. Majority rules I guess. I would love to see tracks like Twist, Happiness in Slavery, Get Down Make Love, and Supernaut (I know this is a 1000 Homo DJ track but hell, Suck is a Pigface track) live but if that were the case...crowd energy would be terrible because you would get the reaction you get like when they play Burn or Dead Souls. Puzzled faces. I appreciate the honest review.

He seems to be a very bright guy and intelligent and you can hear that through his music and passion though his lyrics don't set him apart from many others. Thanks for the clean up on Indentured servants but, you get what I'm saying.

Yeah, I understand you. I guess I think of him more in the light of a spoken word artist than a musician. Afterall, all it was his spoken word material on Slam and Def Poetry Jam that introduced me to him.

Yeah, most people had no clue what the fuck was going on during "Dead Souls".

However, I truly think the crowd is the x factor in how good a show is. This crowd was tame as fuck.

When I saw NIN in ATL during the club tour I was in the fucking balconey and it was 5x as wild as on the floor in the arena. The crowd was made of die hards and was fucking insane; most intense show I have ever been to. 90% of the people at this show had shirts on they had just bought at the merch booth. The crowd was a bunch of n00bs, and they acted accordingly. The band put on a great show.

btw, your right; "Piggy" sung by 14 year old girls or by rednecks in DEEP southern dialect makes peoples ears bleed.

Hehe you should hear Closer sung with the same dialect. ;)

The first part is very true as well as the latter. So how about those Nine Inch Nails? :p Oh yeah, another highlight of the night along with Dead Souls and Mr. Self Destruct....Saul Williams saying something along the lines of the fact that he can't take off a black shirt and have his black gone.

btw, your right; "Piggy" sung by 14 year old girls or by rednecks in DEEP southern dialect makes peoples ears bleed.
Yes, I believe you are referring to the show at the Tabernacle prior to the show they had at Philips Arena. :)

However, I truly think the crowd is the x factor in how good a show is. This crowd was tame as fuck.

When I saw NIN in ATL during the club tour I was in the fucking balconey and it was 5x as wild as on the floor in the arena. Indeed, I was. Also, check out the edit-post link.

I loved it.

In all honesty, I think this show rocked harder than the show I saw at the Phillips Arena. The whole band just seemed more energetic. And you can't go wrong with Josh Freese. I'm still trying to figure out how he didn't break his drums.

The venue itself was alright. It could have been a bit darker. No big deal though.

Aaron North's guitar gave out too quickly during the smashy smashy ending part, but luckily he found the keyboard Alessandro was smashing and finished that off.

If I have one complaint, it was that there was no Fragile tunes.

I wanted to see Mr. Self-Destruct, so I was a little sad (not really sad, but you know) when they opened with Love Is Not Enough (still a killer song), but damn...they blew that right out the window didn't they? Just, BAM there it is!

Looking forward to my next opportunity to see them.

Um. What are you talking about? They played the song.

Maybe you misunderstood me or perhaps I wasn't clear.

Since I was aware they had previously only opened with LINE or MSD, I was at a loss when LINE began other than MSD. But, that whole theory went to hell when they just followed it right up with MSD with no curtain. I was floored.

I also saw Rob Sheridan poking around near Aaron during HLAH taking photos. Looks like they've put one up on the official site already.

I also would like to add that I rather enjoyed Saul's performance.
Bricklayer
Yeah I did misunderstand. To me it read as if you didn't know they played Mr. Self-Destruct. I think the BAM! spooked me and threw me off. :)

No big deal. I'm not writing very clearly right now anyway, as it's a bit late and I'm quite tired. I should sleep. :P

Great show, the set list could have been better (Something I can never have, anyone?) but being in the Spiral reserved seating, I had people around me who were as into it as I was. Loved hearing Dead Souls. Yes, it wasa bunch of noobs in the audience, it's GREENVILLE. I was so happy that NIN came to play, I don't care what the hell they played. Oh, and if you want to get in with the crowd around here, it's not "dixie" it's "Freebird". The energy was not The Tabernacle, but it was a bit better than Philips Arena.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Well, being my first NIN show, I was unexplainably excited. Granted, some of you are bitching about the set being too cookie-cutter, but it was my first NIN show, and I didn't care. The crowd (especially where I was, the lower seating), was INCREDIBLY tame, like, they were just standing there. I was the only one singing in some songs.

Plus, there were way too many drunk hicks who probably only knew Closer and The Hand that Feeds. On the plus side though, there were 3 really hot girls behind me who seemed to know all the songs, that was a plus. I laughed really hard when those inbred girls up front sang during Piggy ("Aye Lawst Mai Sheet Becuz of Youuu") then seeing Trent jerk the mic back. Classic.

So yeah, amazing night overall for me.

*Hopes someone releases a bootleg of it*

I thought the show rocked, except for the lack of Fragile-era songs, but they put on a great fucking show anyway. Most of the crowd seemed into the show, but a lot of the people in the seats near me were just sitting/standing there the whole time looking bored, which I thought was pretty lame. All in all, I feel pretty broken today from screaming the whole time and dancing, plus my left ear stopped working at some point during Reptile and has yet to return to normal. Great fucking show... I can' wait for the summer tour.
Master of the Ninth Arch
You guys know that you dont have to scream and jump around like an idiot to enjoy a concert, right??

I was down at the front and we had a blast! My section was women only at least 3 rows back and I was at the barricade. Trent came to our side after jumping into the crowd. He laid on my chest for awhile and then moved on. I have been to 7 NIN shows but that took the prize for me. I thought Trent was much more into the show than the last couple of times I saw him (Atlanta-Phillips, Reno). Tabernacle show was in a league all its own and thus I will not unfairly compare other shows to it.
Anyways.......NIN finally back in Charlotte in 6/06 as well as Raleigh! About damn time!
I liked the set list except the Fragile was missing. I would like to have heard some of it. They basically did most of Downward Spiral and W/ Teeth with some Broken and PHM thrown in. Good to hear Dead Souls as I have not heard that live since 1995!

ive seen a bunch of shows this tour and id say that most of them were pretty good and usually played a few songs that i wasnt expecting. last night wasnt one of those nights. had it been the only show ive been to then i suppose i wouldnt complain but trent even said during the show that he recognized the people in the front row who had seen the last few shows. im sure im not the only one who sees several shows and would like to see something other then closer done every night.

-Greg
Fuck yeah! As this was my first NIN concert, I cannot compare it to any prior efforts. But it was great to hear Burn, Dead Souls, Eraser and Reptile, as well as what I've seen on the AATCHB DVD. The production values were overwhelming, as expected. It was also great to see a large cross-section of the american public represented at this event. You had your drunk rednecks looking for a place to party, sexy leather women from 1994, yer goth-stalwarts, some older gentlemen and ladies (including my 63-year-old father), and up to 4 black people! (including Saul.)

Obviously, this is probably the best concert I've ever been to, and will definitely see them again when they come to Charlotte in June (with better seats).

i drove up from orlando FL to see this show, and it was phenomenal. I wanted to hear mr self destruct, and at first thought it wasnt happening when they opened with love is not enough.

when he came down into the crowd for piggy he was right on me, and i got to sing into the mic for one verse or something, hopefully it wasnt terrible like those girls and that other dude who was country folk.

amazing show.

kainen j wrote:Let me sum it up for you.

For this being your first nin show: It was awersome

If this was your 2nd or third then it wasn't near as good, especially if those other two or three had been in the same year because you basically saw the same damn thing everytime.
Nobody said this was the Grateful Dead. With the amount of production that goes into this show, you can bet your ass your going to see "generally" the same set of songs. They do a good job, in my opinion, of keeping it interesting and lately they have been going even further outside of the "norm" (see: LINE and MSD last night, MSD four straight shows, Deep etc). NIN are in a position where they have an obligation to play the "hits". MOST fans are not going to several shows on the tour, so you are in the minority. If they are still playing these same songs next year, you have a valid point to bitch about the setlists. I have seen them 9 times since 1994, and the Richmond VA show was quite possibly the best I've seen since my first show (I've seen them 5 times on the WT Tour). Also, it's really fucking hard to top your first NIN experience man. Once you see them, the element of surprise and mystery are greatly diminished.

Best touring band on the planet. End of fucking story (as Bill Hicks would say).
Bricklayer
Why such spite and complaint?
I have no grievances, qualms, anything about the show itself.
The drunken stupor and high times around us was not the highlight of the event, but as a fan who loved the show for everything I was angry at the absurdity of someone altering their state and seeing a show like that. That's lost respect for NIN to be raucous and obnoxious just for the sake of doing so.
That was my first live NIN and it won't be my last but shows are shows and people are that way no matter where the venue.
I didn't enjoy the actions of some but that doesn't call for knocking the people as a whole.
Everyone saw something that was gloriously beautiful and should be content. I certainly am. Very much so...

Is Moke going to format an mp3 of the Greenville concert?
Oh my.
I suppose if you've seen NIN 10 times, I can understand some of the complaining same set list, crowd etc, but I've seen other shows from the early lollapoloozas, Nirvanas, OzzFests, Club shows etc, and it was my first chance to see NIN, and the production was top notch, Trents singing was nearly perfect, and for most music fans the setlist had it all.

I had no complaints when it was over...

You call that fuckin deep southern dialect? I'm sorry, but the people who managed to sing didn't sound southern at all. I live in South Carolina, by the way, I know what "DEEP southern dialect" sounds like.

Everyone saying shit about "rednecks" and "hicks" and things like that, grow the fuck up. It wasn't just natives that were acting like drunk fucktards.

I suspect there was a high population of Clemson Greek in attendance as well, which are worse then any redneck.

enough with the bickering.

The show was great, except for the sound quality. This was about the 9-10th time I've seen NIN since 94 (3rd on WT). The band was great, Josh is by far the best drummer yet, and Saul Williams is an exciting opening act. Too bad the sound quality of the Greenville location wasn't better, but... Big thanks to Moke for posting the mp3!!!

To the ATL Spiral folks in the crowd - it seems I was sitting right next to most of the people I was stuck waiting in line with at the Phillips Arena show last October - I'll see y'all in June !!

i thought the entire show sounded fucking great but i stood in front of the sound board. i guess it always sounds good right there.
the show was great! nothing tamed about where i was. thanks to the fayette co. guys! nice to see such hardcore nin fans from my home town! thanks for all the help protecting the girl i was with.
This show was amazing!!!! It was my 3rd time seeing them and it was by far the best performnace I've seen!!!! Dude that posted the Sin song from our show...do you have the rest of the songs from the show?!

Yeah, I'd love to get this show in mp3. I thought this show was a lot better than Atlanta in October (Phillips) and that was my first time seeing them; the crowd was more into it, and the band was definitely more energetic this time around. I'm intrigued byt the idea of an amphitheatre tour this summer. Should be interesting to see how the band does it.

As would I, but I saw no tapers, so it is unlikely.
Does anyone have the mp3 of the show at the bilo center?

holy shizen... this was the last of three shows i went to in the last year. it wasn't as bad as it seems some thought. the setlist was the best i've seen in my three shows. MSD and Dead Souls were badass!!! (Tabernacle night 1, phillips arena, Bilo center) but the mood wasn't the same. i agree the majority (not everyone, cause i was going apeshit along with my buddy luke..) of people didn't know how to process Burn or Dead Souls but the show was not something terrible. it is just that the Bilo Center sucks as a venue. I saw tomahawk and tool here as well a Zombie/Korn and i have to say that compared to the other arenas and venues i have seen big acts at, the bilo center sucks. the sound couldn't be worse if you are in upper seats. (fortunately, we had floor tickets and were able to hang out on the outskirt of a pit. ) the only thing i didn't like about this show was the fact that people were moshing to closer. i mean, come on, MOTP, MSD, even at a stretch maybe ONly..BUT CLOSER!!!!!! i mean, even at Platinim Plus there's a certain BPM for dancers to strip to shouldn't the same ettique apply to what music is moshable? i've lived here my entire life and am sick
of seeing dumb redneck people destroy something that is art. oh well, maybe if Reznor and crew are still doing this when the time warp catches up in 15 years, people will know how to perceive songs like closer. ("wow, they playt this un on that there MTV when iz a yungun" i wish a song like "AATCB" had made it to one of the sets, but maybe the next show in the ATL will bring that gem to live life...although i doubt it.
oh well, it was a decent show. i was happy to catch another one.
oh yeah, and i would have to agree with the Zombie sucks comment. his live show is good but his music is seriously outdated. he should stick to art and movies because he truly excells more there.
