It was fucking storming during Bauhaus; people ran to the front to avoid the rain. It calmed down though, and everybody got into it.

During Suck, Aaron spit straight up in the air and then caught it in his mouth. Nasty, but impressive. During Down In It he was rubbing Alessandro's crotch, and I have no idea why. The band seemed to be having a lot of fun.
I was third person back from the rail in front of Aaron. The pit was small and great- energetic, but we weren't squished in there. I liked having some personal space. Although, there was a really annoying drunk girl with orange hair. Melissa, if you read this, try not to be so annoying, please?
Trent didn't say anything and....the venue is really nice. I guess that's it for now.

It was Awesome! If anybody has the Bauhaus set I would really appreciate it.
I assume they also have this at other concerts, but it was nice to be able to purchase Still for $10.

The show was great... the pit could've been a little more energetic in my eyes, but i'm not complaining by any means. I'm glad of the setlist change, the frail/the wretched, and gdml for the changeups were great though I'm still waiting for home around here. Oh well maybe indy?

I FUCKING MET AARON NORTH!!!!!! So I loved the venue, totally better than Blossom (last night). I think that Bahaus sucks. I have respect for them simply because Trent brought them out. Tonight I actually watched their performance and I hated it. I was sitting with my friends on the edge of the lawn and I see Aaron walk by with a security guard. The guard who was with him stopped in front of some nasty-chubby-hot topic shopping girls to hand out backstage passes. So Aaron was alone and I went up to him and shook his hand. I introduced myself and talked to him about the show last night. He was very friendly and said thank you and told me to enjoy the show.

the show was amazing. i liked geting even deeper last night and get down make love tonight, though i was so hoping for dead souls. i'd give my left nut to see that live.
setlist is correct aside from the missing frail/wretched that was already mentioned.
last night at blossom, i missed peaches but caught bauhaus. they sounded muffled and heavily distorted, so i wasn't so into their set. tonight back home in cbus, peaches fucking rocked. the drummer was amazing, though i never really got to see her since her setup was obstructing my view. she sounded great though. all around, i was impressed.
bauhaus sounded much better than last night. must have had something to do with the accoustics. i wasn't impressed last night, but tonight i was able to get into the set a little more. i loved daniel playing the sax both nights. he was pretty damn good. kinda reminded me of johnny depp in charlie and the chocolate factory. david and kevin rocked. i was loving kevin's drums. on point. pretty sweet, considering i knew nothing of them.

i gotta say the show was a lot better than I expected. I was seriously debating not going just because I hate germaine ampetheater so much but this was easily the best sounding show I have ever seen there. And I picked up 2 lawn tickets for $30. Really sucks that it started raining VERY cold rain during bauhaus so I missed their last 3 songs standing under cover by the concessions.
NIN's stage show continues to impress me. The pseudo 3D effect from the 2 different screens was very cool. The setlist was good although I would have liked something more off of PHM. Get down make love made up for that a bit though. Being far away I pretty much only saw what was shown on the screens but for the price that's ok. Very disappointed in merch prices but there's no need to start a debate about that here. Anyway, I had a very good time at the show.
Oh because of traffic we got there right as peaches set was ending so I can't comment on that.

As usual nine inch nails was great. For the first time, the spiral tickets were the best in the venue.

I was impressed by the whole evening. Peaches was better than what I expected and it was awesome when she went into the pit and crowd surfed and then ran out around the whole venue! I was sitting right behind the girl she put her arm around coming down to her seat. I know she played Two Guys For Every Girl and Fuck The Pain Away, not sure on the rest, and yes, her drummer kicks ass.
Bauhaus was good, but Peter Murphy creeps me out and I think the sound was a bit off. I loved when he was standing on the drum stand and all that green light and smoke was around him, great effect. Also, did anyone get what he said about the thunder? He made some crack about it.
NIN was FUCKING AWESOME! This is the best show I've been to ever. Aaron didn't stage dive tonight, but man can he tear it up. The man is wild on stage. Here is the setlist, in order (I wrote it down)

First time hearing The Big Comedown live, I loved it and Non-Entity sounds amazing with the band, even if only half of the audience knew the lyrics. Trent didn't talk at all. Maybe C-bus brings back some bad memories for him (Maise died here). Visuals were great, especially during Closer with the dripping visiual. The place was lit by the time Head Like A Hole was played. I was in the 8th row and couldn't hear Trent at all because everyone was singing so loud. Amazing show, hope they come here again with the next album.

On the other hand, People really suck and sometimes I feel like stabbing them with rusty sporks! The last three NIN shows I've been to, there are these sorry-ass fucks who show up after everyone else has been standing in line for hours and just mosey right up to the front. One is a big fat blonde dude and the other is a skinny chick. Both are from outside the country. Let me just sum up TRUE line etiquette.
You can hold someone's place in line if, say, they are going to the bathroom or to get a drink. Holding someone's place in line for the whole day because they don't want to wait in line is unacceptable and really tends to piss people off. If you want a good spot in the line, then BE in the line. You fucks know who you are and you have a nice warm spot in Hell waiting for you.
Then, I get into the pit and have to stand behind two tall, emotionless assholes that apparently buy GAPit tickets to stand there with their arms crossed and stare at Trent and Co. like they were a display in a fucking strip mall. really sucked the energy out of myself and probably the band.
Here I am, jumping and dancing to every tune, and the "glimmer twins" just standing there like it's a fucking Kenny G concert. Get a life and leave those incredible tickets to someone who actually wants to experience the show, not just trying to get yet another crappy cell phone shot of the band.

One thing I have to disagree with you on is how people enjoy the show some of us are there for the music not to kill ourselves in the pit.
My pit days are long over I now have 4 screws in my ankle and a pin and I have been seeing nails since 1994 therefore the back of the pit is a nice place to be really close to the band and enjoy the music and not get killed.
Just beacuse we arent throwing people around does not mean we arent having an amazing time hell I have pit tix and I am travelling to Pittsburgh for my next show From MA this will be my 4th show in one year so please dont make snap judgements about us other NIN fans we are there for the music and the show
Hell If you saw my smile at and after every show you would know how happy I am.That's funny, I never said the pit should be dangerous. I just said people should look like they are into the music and give energy back to the band.
Over half the people in the 300 person capacity pit were not even dancing.

OPENING ACT
Another great NIN show. Unfortunately, I missed Peaches. We arrived at 7:30 and she had already played. Apparently she went on right at 7:00, when the show was scheduled to begin. Can't even remember a time I've been to a show that started on time. But you have been warned. If you want to see Peaches, be on time. Wasn't too impressed with Bauhaus. A few songs were cool, I liked the sax. Not really my thing, I guess.
GERMAIN = COOL
I will give my props to Germain Amphitheater, though. It was raining off and on during Bauhaus, then the sky just opened up. The cold, wind, and rain would have ruined this concert a miserable experience. But the event staff came to the rescue and let people with lawn tickets sit in the back of the pavilion seating. They made room for a huge portion of the lawn crowd, and this was very awesome of them. It was POURING rain for at least half an hour after they let us in. Previous experiences at Germain weren't very notable, but they definitely earned some points in my book last night.
NIN = BAMFs
Nails was, as usual, awesome. I like this set list a lot more than the Feb. show in Cincy (which was dominated by With Teeth). The Big Come Down was totally unexpected and f-ing awesome, I love that song. Get Down Make Love, too. That's a great live song, I'm surprised I haven't seen NIN play it before. I've never seen them play outdoors , so I was worried the energy level would be lower than an arena show. However, I was pleasantly surprised. People were into the performance and totally following along. A bit more laid back than an arena show, perhaps, but cool nonetheless. I always like going to NIN shows because the fans are an eclectic bunch. You can people watch for hours on end and everyone seems to have a good time. The lighting was cool, too. Better than the winter setup, in my opinion (save the intermission war/materialism/Bush thing during the winter, that was awesome). The light grid in front of the band is used quite effectively throughout the show. Definitely catch the end of this tour if you can. You won't regret it.

After a few concussions resulting in root canals from my pit days, I would like to venture into the pit for awhile, but I can't do it like the old days. What I do not like are the pussies in the pit that get upset when you bump into them or try to get them to have a good time. Example, the fucker with a mohawk and the other fucker wearing some trendy wrap around your head sunglasses. There is a certain amount of pit etiquette that must be followed (no groping, drunken stuipidness, etc). BUT, if you can’t handle it, GET OUT!!!!

It makes me sad to see people not enjoying Bauhaus. They are the original Goth, and we would have almost nothing without them. At least give them all the credit they deserve. 
NIN was AWESOME as usual! I loved the fact that during Bauhaus the lightening was fierce!! It really set the mood for the evening! Excellent show! I advise all who can go see them, to do so!!!

However, my favorite part of the show was that Peaches ran up to my box and I got to scream "fuck the pain away" in her mic. I think she was just kinda shocked that somebody sitting in a box listened to her.

If you think you can go right up front, and just stand there with no passion for the music, no knowledge of the lyrics, take cell-phone pics all night, and think you won't get bumped around, you gotta be kidding. Get out of the pit and go to the food court, mama.
Also, I felt many in the pit did not know all the lyrics, and were actually getting pissed by people who are were singing, trying to enjoy a band they love ( does 21 concerts over a 17 year span sound hard core ?) Yeah that's me... I had a 1991 Now Im Nothing shirt.
The two BBW (?)'s behind me and my brother kept pushing us for no reason, and making stupid comments like..."you guys are bad singers" and " you are nobody" when I sang along withe the Down In It line "I used to be somebody". All this because I got bumped around a little and ended up in front of your stationary, unable-to-move lard ass. Deal with it!... and for the record, if you ever find out who/what I really am, you will realize who the 'nobody' is.
Wake up, lame ass Columbus fans, Clelveland rocks better than us.

The two BBW (?)'s behind me and my brother kept pushing us for no reason, and making stupid comments like..."you guys are bad singers" and " you are nobody" when I sang along withe the Down In It line "I used to be somebody". All this because I got bumped around a little and ended up in front of your stationary, unable-to-move lard ass. Deal with it!... and for the record, if you ever find out who/what I really am, you will realize who the 'nobody' is.

Whatever dude. I saw Exotic Birds and didn't even know it until 3 years later. I saw NIN in '89. I still have my "Hate" shirt. I saw them at the Newport with Die Warzau and Chemlab. I was at Lollapalooza at Blosom and lifted the barrier to open the pit. I was at the show his dog died at. I was in the pit a Woodstock... blah, blah, blah, blah.... It's not about whoose dick is biggest. The problem is most people aren't even old enough to have been in a real pit. You get the knuckleheads with the Abercrombie gear on skanking, swinging their arms trying to hurt people - that ain't a pit - that's fucking stupid. For every one person that knows pit etiquette (there is such a thing), there's five jugheads tackling you in the back or kicking you in the head. And that fucks things up for everyone. The show was absolutely unbelievable and worth the four hour drive from central/southeast Kentucky to Columbus (as it always is with Nine Inch Nails.) Of the seven shows I have seen (both Atlanta, GA Tabernacle shows in Spring 2005, the Nashville Halloween Fall 2005 show, the Lexington, Cincinnati and Knoxville Winter 2006 shows and now finally this one...) I want so much to say it's the best but it's real close between Atlanta (night two), Lexington, Knoxville, and Columbus. Columbus should have blown them all away - but it didn't - and it wasn't even the bands fault. Trent was on fucking fire, as was the rest of the band, everything was perfect. So what was the problem?
The crowd. I have never seen a more unenthusiastic NIN crowd, maybe I have been spoiled by the fire of Atlanta's unforgettable crowd (which has yet to be matched although Knoxville's crowd was on fire as well), but it seemed Columbus took NIN with the same enthusiasm as they would with putt-putt mini golf. The pit was ultra tame, as was the seated crowd (I was in a seat and could obviously see that it was very safe.) Few people were rocking out, I felt kind of out of place jumping around and rocking out - which sucked. But I guess I did grab Trent's attention because it seemed he looked me dead in the eyes for a few seconds at least ten times, it was very awesome moments. The only thing is this show felt "safe" and that's not a feeling I particularly like at a NIN show - and it was only the crowd that caused this "safe" feeling... I'm unhappy to report.
Bitching about the crowd aside - the show was fucking phenomenal and A+. My favorites were definitely Somewhat Damaged, Help Me I'm In Hell, La Mer, Get Down Make Love, and Down In It. I was worried about how the band would translate Into The Void live when I initially heard about them playing it - but they played it flawlessly and even better than on record.... it kicked ass. All of the material played on other tours were great as well, I especially dug the new production on Closer - very nice. The whole "grill" setup is amazing - Only and Help Me I'm In Hell stood out as highlights production-wise. It's a shame that it seems these shows aren't going to be recorded for the upcoming DVD, as this summer tour seems the most amazing production wise.
Bauhaus kicked ass - I must say I thoroughly enjoyed them. Peter Murphy does seem like he could be David Bowie part II. I especially enjoyed Double Dare and In The Flat Field... very lovely ^_^.

My friend had his first NIN concert and called it "the best" of all he seen and he is very unfamiliar with NIN. This was my seventh and possibly the best, I just wish the crowd was more enthused. The nice girls who sat by us, I am not sure who you are but I hope I kept my promise and didn't flail wildly and bump into you ^_^.

I just have to comment on this show a wee bit more...
to all the fuckers claiming how lame the pit was and all the fuckers complaining about how they like to enjoy the show, here.
This is a PIT. If you don't know the definition go shoot yourself now. If you expect not to get bumped or something... uhh don't get pit tickets, or at least stand to the back or sides, that simple really.
I seen probably about 10-12 people total REALLY getting in to the music(hardcore). I don't know if you people claiming that you were basically making the pit really were one of the few but I know my buddy, my GF & me were on the left side 4th row back and we getting crazy. Xcept for front rowers they were moving there heads bigtime, plus they really can't move that much. I did notice 2 chicks with orange & teal hair I seen at detroit too ETSer's?
I agree that I wish ot would've been more like blossoms pit but hey it was a great fucking time. I did try to move some shit around during MOTP... it was fun, people were getting pissed!! But after that people kinda moved away from us and gave us space to move so there was no problems.
And I don't mind people singing along I think it's great band support, but if your drunken or tonedeaf please just sing soft(refering to the 2 husky gentlemen in the back left-center.
I really love the GAPit tickets line up there... funny as fuck actually, I thought the pit was like sponsored by like polo or something. heh.
3 things that nobody else mentioned about this show that I thought was worthy.
1.) Aaron not jumping into the crowd, hmmm... wonder why??? Polo pit.
2.) The guy who weaseled his way into the pit during the beginning of the fragile, and the security guard that was elping him try to find his supposed gf that had his ticket although he had no fucking wristband, basically he was full of fucking shit and the loudmouth dumbfuck security guard wouldn't shut the fuck up... well he let the guy stay. I seriously was about to skullfuck the shit outta both of them, and I was thinking trent was too.
3.) The fucking douchebag on the right side that yelled out "here!" like two milliseconds before trent said "....h.E.r.e..."
To You: This is one of the most crucial points in the song that trent likes to draw out to get that anticipation out of you... not for you to scream an off-key loudmouth "HERE!" Keep your fucking mouth shut next time. I'm sure tr wanted to skullfuck the shit out of you for ruining that part.

@Becoming- did you hear the woman loudly talking during all of La Mer? She was right next to me- I tried to ignore it but I could have smacked her. I was disappointed Aaron didn't jump in the pit, as he probably would have landed right on me.
The pit was a little tame, but I don't think that not being packed in and knocked around equals a shitty pit crowd. Most people around me were dancing and singing.
I think the PETA people at every show are the same people- what a great gig. I wonder if they get to watch when nails goes on.

Just a few comments even though I wasn't in the pit. (speaking as someone who has seen about 40-50 concerts a year for the last 15 years)
1. I pay to come hear the band play and sing, not idiots in the crowd. I enjoy singing along too but if I can hear myself over the band I know it's too loud, and if anyone else could hear me it would really be too loud.
2. I understand about the band feeding off energy from the crowd and to a certain extent that's a valid point, but I don't think you should take anything away from people who don't get into physical motion as part of their enjoyment. People get into things in different ways. In general I think I get into shows physically more than a lot of people, less than others of course. But if you want to be honest about it, if you're jumping all around like a maniac you're not listening to the music as closely as you could be. I also think the crowd has the opportunity to give energy back to the band between songs by clapping/screaming/cheering etc. I've got no problem with people dancing, especially in the pit. And yes, if you're in the pit you should expect a bit of contact. But I don't think anyone should have to take shit for not "getting into it" regardless of where their seats are.
EDIT: A few more thoughts. I assume everyone on this msg board is a huge NIN fan, maybe they're even your favorite band. But that's not a safe assumption to make of everyone at the show. Maybe some people just like a few songs (from the lawn you could see the large stream of people leaving after they played closer), or maybe they won free tickets. I'm sure a lot of people were there just to see bauhaus. And I'm sure there were some people there who just didn't like NIN for whatever reason. My point is just that it doesn't make sense to try and judge people based on the way they choose to experience the show.

I understand what you are saying here and I agree with you. Trust me, I'm not giving shit to anyone for not "getting into it," I'm just saying that - for me - part of the excitement of NIN has always been the very obvious enthusiasm of the crowd. I'm certain a lot of people soaked in the energy like a sponge and had the greatest times of their lives - and that's fantastic. My friend who said it was "the best" wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as my other friend that I have taken to almost every show (but couldn't make this one) - and I think that's great. This is just the first show I've been to where people seemed to treat the show (at least from where I was) as if it was something normal or... how do I put it... a "safe" activity. I'm thrilled other people liked the show but, for me, it would have been much better had Columbus had the same fire and obvious enthusiasm as the other shows I've been to. For me, if the crowd was there it would have most definitely blown away anything I've seen prior to this. I think the best example that upset me was the guy in our row who went out and got beer at least six times during NIN's set. I think that summarizes how I felt Columbus received NIN. It was disheartening. I mean, if you are going to get shitfaced - that's great but at least do it before NIN hits the stage, not in the middle of their fucking set. Getting beer six or more times (I'm not kidding, it was at least six) during NIN's set is ridiculous, not only because it's Nine Inch Fucking Nails and they are the reason you came, but beer was $7.50 minimum a glass ^_^.
Then again, it was the guy who sat directly behind the guy with the blue mohawk haircut (and looking at the "beer guy" you could tell he was very disgruntled with the size of this guys hair.)
Which leads me to my next little quandry... you know I'm all about expressing yourself at shows in other ways besides dancing/singing and having great haircuts and shit, and this guys haircut was really nice. But damn dude, must the mohawk be so tall? People really would have trouble seeing over that, you could tell the beer guy was really upset about it. I mean, your haircut was awesome - it looked great. But cutting it down to a smaller size would make everyone think it was a cool haircut instead of everyone except the guy behind you ^_^. I mean no disrespect or offense.
In the upside of things, did anyone notice while waiting in line that Bauhaus soundchecked a shitload of Joy Division songs? I heard Twenty Four Hours and Dead Souls... probably more. I thought that was really cool.

yeah i'm not a big fan of people who seem to be there more to drink than to see the bands. It's annoying at shows this size just because they're always pushing their way through the crowd but it's even worse at small clubs/bars because they're trying to hold conversations rather than listen to the band. I always wonder if all you want to do is get drunk and talk to your friends why you would pay a $10 cover or whatever to do it someplace where people are trying to see a band.
I saw mono and pelican in cleveland recently and mono's set was ruined by people talking over their quiet parts (they have very wide dynamic range going from incredibly quiet to incredibly loud). For the most part, especially with bands like that, the crowds in columbus seem to be a bit more considerate (at least at some venues) so maybe for whatever reason columbus is just a bit calmer in general than other cities? I don't know.
I also know how a show can seem just that much more exciting when you're in a crowd that's really full of energy.

Pit was really tame as most of you have already said. Unfortunately the crowd is the deciding factor in what makes a show great or just an average one. The sound was even better than in Cleveland but the energy just wasn't the same (from the band and the crowd). Cleveland was by far the best With Teeth show I've seen mainly because of the crowd. This was an average NIN show but I still enjoyed myself. I actually found Jeordie entertaining for once...Did anyone see when he threw a water bottle and sprayed the guy filming right up front? He bent down and apologized really fast. Pretty funny.

if you are who i think you are, i was directly behind you. were you dancing and singing with your girlfriend directly infront of you? while the pit was definitely lackluster having a couple people near singing along and into it just as much as i was made it ok. that and the show was pretty much perfect otherwise.
i had a grey zip hoodie on and was going back and forth from the pit to seats 15 or so rows back (managed to get only one pit ticket late and didn't want to leave my gf the entire time).
and for everyone else bitching about the pit- there was definitely no energy and a lot of people who didn't belong but did it really ruin your nin experience? i waited however long now for another columbus show and nothing was going to ruin it for me.

I caught a water bottle from Jeordie and barely missed catching the tamborine, it just raked the top of my fingers. I got to hear DII for the first time in well over ten years and I repeatedly PM'd Trent to put Non-Entity in the setlist.
Needless to say,
I left the concert soaked with sweat and panting like a dog.
I just needed to vent a little about pit ethics, band-audience-interaction, and the two chodes that picked me to stand in front of and be totally emotionless.

This was my first time seeing NIN and I thought the show was amazing! I was fortunate enough to get free tickets and an aftershow party pass! I didn't even know that I would be going to the concert until that day. I was so excited!!!! I couldn't believe that I was going to meet Trent! I was disappointed though because it didn't happen. The party was not what I expected it to be. My husband and I stayed for 2 hours and Trent never showed up. It was very cool to drink and hang out with the rest of the band though. All the sluttly groupies were very annoying though. Lots of young half naked girls, but the band seemed to be pretty much into that kind of thing. Overall, an amazing experience!

yea trent dosent go to the party, just the rest of the band, but they are pretty fun and you end up with a pretty cool story, i was at the one in toronto all because my friend got in a bread eating contest with aaron north at the maine show. but YAY for you.
