First NIN concert ever in Portugal. And what a concert! After entering at stage with Pilgrimage, they started the "destruction" with... Mr. Self Destruct! I can't remember the full setlist, it was similar to BYIT dvd, but smaller - about one hour and a half. Four hours later, I'm still astonished... and I'll repeat the dosage next Monday

This is the best setlist ever! fucking hell this rocks.

This is going to be really disjointed, but I just wanted to add a couple of things:

Great show and amazing crowd energy. As I told someone here after the show, the average age of the audience appeared to be 15 years old. They totally rocked out.

I was fairly certain NIN was finally going to do Last as they soundchecked it on Friday and Saturday. I also have very high hopes that they WILL do a new song at at least one of these shows. Maybe the first night was just not the right night?

Closer included The Only Time breakdown, which I don't think has been mentioned. Trent held a small fluorescent light to his face as he sang a bit of it on an equipment box placed close to the rail. Which reminds me, the rail was placed really far from the stage. I've never seen that kind of set up before but the way the venue was constructed demanded it, which is probably why TR came to the rail.

I am fairly certain that was not cornstarch on Trent's pants (although the people I was with disagreed). Like what he wore on W_T winter tour, it's likely some grey/whitish spray onto jeans (w/ rubber coating) or leather pants (it was hard to tell which). Gloves came off at some point but jacket stayed on throughout. Loved the new tour outfit. :p

Lights were minimal. No LCD panels. At the back of stage there were a set of traffic light-looking things, but all in yellow lights. Above each member of the band were these low hanging lights w/ a pull string in the center (reminded me of interrogation lights used in police shows). TR, AC, JW and AN swung them around throughout. Good effect. TR also walked by each bandmate w/ the strobe light during HMIAIH.

Burn started with a new synth part. I didn't recognize it at first.

Smoke machine cut off lights on stage, so MOTP was done with house lights on. All was well within a couple of songs later. Trent said something like "of course something has to go wrong on the first night."

One last tidbit: You lucky Europeans fans will likely see NIN in the summer too...

The only thing we, portuguese, don't understand is why wasn't there an encore? Is that normal?
I think i don't recall seeing the people standing and demanding the band to come back for so long after they turned on the lights. 1h30 was short even if they will play tonight and tomorrow!

Anyway, can't wait to see them tonight!

yes, perfectly normal, there are never encores with nin, still i'km sure the band enjoyed all the commotion...it was endearing, knowing there wouldn't be an encore i just took in the energy that was emitted when they left the stage...

Great start for a tour!! First row, (thanks to the earlier spiral entrance),body hurts today but more to come tonight!!
Going to the coliseum now, photos of the last night show and the other two nights coming, next week....at thge first row, security guys didn´t allowed people to tape the show, only photos. Tonight I´m going to try another place at the venue to see if I can tape some songs on video.
The setlist published here is correct!

the concert was great.

but...

there was something missing in this concert. it was like if it was too rational for what i was expecting in a nin concert. it was like destroying something in a certain direction, knowing where the pieces will fall. it seemed too controlled. too "easy". there were times where it seemed that they were too concentrate on doing things right instead of enjoying it. probably because it was the first concert of the tour.

maybe it was because i waited 12 years for this. maybe it was because something always happened and i didn't have the chance to see them in some other country. maybe i was expecting some kind of chaotic vibe in it. maybe i was expecting something... unexpected.

the lights went off on third music. it was cool that they kept playing with the lights of the coliseu on. fuck lights, we don't need them.
it is starting to be a tradition to me, going to concerts where something like this happens: AIR lost stage power and told some jokes to entertain us, kraftwerk at a summer festival lost one of the screens they had on stage (ironic isn't it? Kraftwerk in trouble with technology...).

the setlist was great.
if only aaron knew how to get of the stage and come near us i think he would have done it. and i think he should do it! we'll take you ladder!
don’t think that the coliseu was the best place for this concert because of the distance between the audience and the stage.

and i totally agree with no encores. sometimes it's just too boring the thank you all ---> clap clap clap thing ---> 4 musics ---> thank you very much ---> clap clap clap thing ---> 3 songs ---> you're the best ---> bye ---> clap clap clap thing

i'm sorry but i want more! we just stayed in the room like "eerrr... WTF?! where's the rest?? We want more!"
i was hopping to feel really overwhelmed, tired, excited and at the end it was ... " ??. I WANT MORE!"

went to yesterdays concert and going tomorrow too.
now that the expectations are less excited and more serenes, i will have time to appreciate more details of the concert.
i still love nin. i'm still going to see them tomorrow. but...

I would be remiss if I didn't mention how awesome the PoPo were. Loved their set, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again tonight.

Aaron watched their set from side stage, which was cool. He also acted as guitar tech at one point when the guitar messed up.

i was in attendance of the show, the setlist order correction shows it. Yes, i was confussing Adrift with first part of La Mer... sorry, but all people isn't as wise as you

Hi guys!

Finally NIN came to Portugal! I´ve been waiting for this concert for almost 10 years!... and I must say I was a bit disappointed... I only went to the last day and I was really looking for to it, and none of my friends that went to the other concerts wanted to tell how it was because.....they didn't want do disappoint me. But I think it was mostly the organization's fault, because:

- the space was too small, the band couldn't move much (the Colosseum sucks, the worst concerts I've ever seen were in the Colosseum of Lisbon);

- there was no space for props or video projections;

- the sound quality was terrible: Reznor's voice blended with the guitars, and we couldn't hear anything but noise distortion;

- the (pour) light effects together with the smoke effects, in such a small space, blocked the view, we just couldn't see the band properly;

- it would've been better to do only one an bigger show in the Atlantic Pavillion. Instead of 90 minutes (90 minutes?????) we would have 2h of concert with better light and smoke effects, video projections, and maybe the band would feel more up to the task. The spacial conditions influenced the performance of the band.


About the band, they were great, I just felt there wasn't much interaction with the audience, which was a pity...

But hey, it's NIN, and I loved it anyway!

The "Pavilhão Atlantico" it's big, but the sound on that venue just sucks... the sound of Tool there...was like shit!( ) The best venue for gigs in Lisbon is "Coliseu dos Recreios" it's true it is smaller, but the "Razzmatazz" in barcelona is 1/5 smaller! and they will be there too! so i think the place is good. And yes, the show seemed smaller, i really don't know why, but the next 2 days just completed what i can call the best 3 days of music in Portugal (i will not say "of my life" because i'm shure i will see more an better shows of NIN!)

And It was nice to meet the Spiral Members that where there! I want to thank you all for letting me enter the venue with you!

I met some spiral members too in the second show. i'd love to a member but i'm not rich lol.

I agree with Manuel. There's no better place in Lisbon to a show than Coliseu. Pavilhao Atlantico is fuckin horrible. The sound is pure noise. I remember MJK's voice in the Tool's show, it sucked sometimes and the guitars were too loud.

Coliseu is confortable, have a cool sound and it's in a excellent location. Not that big but it's enough for this kind of shows. The only problem is the stage space and the space between the first row and the band.

Of course I'd to love to have mega screens with great visuals like USA tour, but that is not so important. I saw Tool two times, which is a band that provide a magnificent visual effects with videos, lights and lasers and NIN shows were way better, IMO.

Oh god, it was so great.
Me and my crew arrived around (at the venue) 6pm, so, we look around the nearby, bought a pizza, and then we finnaly went to the entrance line.
Everyone was very kind, making us questions about the pizza price and joking around.

When we saw the spiral members getting on their special entrance we were like..."those bastards! I want to be a spiral member too! The first rows will be for them!".

Minutes later, they checked our tickets, we ran to the "arena" itself...I could believe...it was so empty! Just a few spiral members on the first row and others on the balcony...result = we at the second row

Then, the wait for the venue get totaly sold out. While I was waiting, a junkie was behind me and everyone was messing around with him...and I was getting scared because we was messing with me...but after a while he disappeared.

As the minutes were passing, everyone was making fun of the PoPo's stage equipment...as it was kinda ridiculous...PoPo was written everywhere...but everyone was friendly, and a 30 years old men star a conversation with me about how many time it was left for NIN to start and making fun of popo.

Then, PoPo arrived and well...they were no that bad...actually they were pretty funny: "Lisbon say POPO! POPO! POPOPOPOPO!" :X

Popo was over.
Everyone was like "oh god, it's now!"...but the roadies took too much time to organize the stage.

Terrible lie with that incident at the end, about the lights and the fire alarm...and then...March of pigs! What a moshpit! I was totally swallowed by the crowd, ending up on the 4th row. Not a big problem.

But...then...LIGHTS OFF! Everyone went crazy! Then, pilgrimage intro = crazyness part2.

Smoke, lights and then...Mr. Self Destruct! One of my favourites NIN songs! And Trent was there...5 meters far from me !

I didn't recognized Last at first but after I while I was singing the lyrics with everybody

Blah Blah, the gig went one..I was surprised there was no curtain with projections on eraser.
La Mer / Into the void / No you don't were a big surprise for me..I never expected them to play those ones.

When the concert was over, I was totally sweat...

It was really great, I just hope them to come back soon
