Yes, those people who were there on time and taken inside had a right to go back to their places at the front of the queue. That's how it works. They queued so as to be allowed in to the spiral event, and also queued from early so as to get to the front of the venue. Lesson: If you want to make sure you are at the front of the queue, get there early. Not rocket science. Also, use of the phrase "dirty slut" pissed me off. It is simply one huge room with "temporary seating" around the outside (that stuff that folds away). It is not purpose built like the MEN in Manchester, NIA in Birmingham and Wembley Arena in London. I can say this because I've been to all of those venues. This is fact. Just off the the top of my head, bands / artists I've seen at the NEC are Depeche Mode (three times), Smashing Pumpkins, Jamiroquai, Foo Fighters, Black Sabbath and Julio Iglesias (I took my mum). Every time I get there (usually after paying quite a lot in a parking cost) I wish that I was watching the band at a smaller venue, or that I hadn't simply gone. Ultimately a venue is nothing more than an area of space; some have more capacity than others. Therefore it could be argued that certain types of performing arts, and artists, are better suited to those areas where expression and performance is not impeded, or impinged on, by spacial, impractical restrictions, which is what my review expressed; based on my observations.
To be clear then: it is my opinion that the Birmingham Academy is a piss poor venue and unfit to showcase one of the most important, original, exciting talents in music history.
Oh, and their toilets are full of piss as well, as i found out when i collapsed in one their cubicles and floated on the piss-soaked floor. Now that's what i call rock and roll.

The venue may not be spectacular, but I find that the quality of people is nearly always better at Brum's academy than other places... the people there are much friendlier and sympathetic compared to the twats who attend Brixton Academy on a regular basis.Tone wrote:The Birmingham Academy is a shithole. I totally disagree!! The joy of seeing a sell out show at Birmingham is that the atmosphere rocks and you can get so fucking close to the band. I was front centre balcony and it still felt very fucking close and I had a wicked clear view of the band. The sound in there is great and its in a very central location. I would rather pay to see NIN at a club gig any day of the week and the view inside the academy is way better than Wolves too (although thats not stopping me from going!)

I do agree that the smoke was OTT but it has been for the whole tour. I think its got something to do with the general ambience the band are trying to get across but I hope they adjust it soon as we cant actually see them!
I had a wicked time at the academy and I cant wait to see the re-scheduled show in August.

Then all of the sudden the guitars and drums kicked in and this wave of people hit us like a tidal wave, it was great
I wanted to stay in the pit to be honest but i was so exhausted, i spent atleast 50 percent of the time watching out for some smallish girls that were around me and helping them out when they got in trouble, but when my friends bailed i thought i'd best take the opportunity to cut through cos i wasnt gonna get out any other time lmao.
