Oh and FUCK FIRE ALARMS!

TR apologised for skipping Birmingham...But tonight he thought he sounded "pretty fucking good". :)

Yeah, something like that.
The concert rocked my cock off.
I managed to get a spot on the barrier and sang along very badly indeed.

Alright, I'm just back home from Brixton. I did not arrive or hang out with the regular (and attending) UK crew; I'm sure they're off at an after party, or a late club somewhere. Have one for the old man, guys. I did attend with one manga lookin' missy. We were in the middle, pretty well-centred. Good sound.

I gave Ladytron a miss. I'll catch them on the weekend. Or not.

This was like the NIN greatest hits tour I'd always wanted to see. Fuck, it was awesome. Can't say how it's compared to the others on this European jaunt, but it was fucking tasty enough for me. Trent did indeed apologise for the postponed Brummie show and said his voice was still fucking with him.

The only thing that I wanted to hear but didn't was "We're In This Together". They'll probably bust it out tomorrow when I'm not there. Hopefully I'll catch it on one of the weekend shows.

Two songs from With Teeth, three from The Fragile, and all that wonderful Broken and TDS was soooo sweet.

The crowd was typical London: many too cool for school, but excited and moving without being too mad. I saw no incidents of trouble, and everyone was in a good mood. There were several first-timers beside us who were very excited, and gushed afterwards. Awww.

Setlist, same as the first (and only) Birmingham night, I think:

Somewhat Damaged
Last
Heresy
March of the Pigs
Piggy
Ruiner
Closer (w/ The Only Time breakdown)
Burn
Gave Up
Help Me I Am In Hell
Eraser
Wish
The Big Comedown
Survivalism
Suck
Only < not sure about the order where this one went in
The Day the World Went Away
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole

Oh, and schteph texted me that a USB key was found. She was at the front. I see there's already a blurb on the Hotline that several were found.

Ohhh you have got to be kidding!! Ahhh woooot! I went to a leak gig! *ah hem*....caalm.
I'm posting this for a friend who attended this show. She sent me a text message (since she doesn't have internet access at her hotel) saying the following:

"Awesome show, LAST! RUINER! TR sounded a bit hoarse, but otherwise was in top form. On to tomorrow! What was on the USBs? Were they all the same and genuine??"

(I know I personally didn't attend, but I figured it'd be OK to post on behalf of someone who did. Mods, if you disagree feel free to delete.)

same setlist as first birmingham, the crowd was rather tame (i thought american crowds were violent? the yanks here were pussies), and trent's security accidentally hit me on the nose after suck.

and of course the whole USB thing. team ets ftw
Yeah, was a fucking wicked gig and some classic songs... got 3 rows back but in front of Jordie again. I always end up there. Got some photos, most of Jordie really cos I'm short and couldn't see much else. Spent £55 on merch, the girls hoodie is *so* snug it's unreal.

Bless him apologising about the gig he cancelled, not that he can remember when it was meant to be but I doubt I could either. And his voice did sound "gooood" :D Husky and sexy, who's gonna complain? You could tell he was putting his all into it too but there were some notes he just wasn't even willing to attempt but he made up for it :)

Love it. Want to go again on Sat but might have no pennies left.

Anyways, pics...

Oh yeah and the fire alarms going of during Hurt. That was pretty shit.

Someone's gonna be pissed. If it's not screaming twats it's fire alarms.

Wicked, fantastic !!. Was in front of Jeordie as well, was over the moon that they played The Big Comedown and Deep, wish I could scrape together some money to go again on Sunday !
Bricklayer
The fire alarms went off during Hurt? How the hell did I not notice that, guess they didn't make any noise near the front/middle.

Anyways just got home, absolutely amazing show, can't wait for tomorrow now. Was so hyped up about the very idea of playing Last, then got all downhearted after his throat problems, thinking he might skip it over, but they played it and I just went insane.

Any NIN gig from here on in is just a bonus after that.

I never noticed the fire alarms, Spose i was too busy singing!

The gig was out of this world!! I loved it when Trent grabbed one of the stage lights and was leaning on the barrier with it during Piggy, Shining it on everyone, I was hoping he'd go all the way along (sigh) He then went on to throw it in the air and break it haha! God they love to break shit live eh!

Despite Trent not being 100% with his voice, You could easily see he gave it just as much as he ever given! The gig is the best i've ever been to hands down....

Now i wanna go back and see it on the weekend, but i can't :(

Trent just snuck onto the stage before the lights went down, it was almost as if everybody around me was suprised to see him come on stage so suddenly.

The crowd were really nice, i agree it was much more tamer than when i last saw them in 05, there was no crush and people seemed to be having a better time.

Oh fuck me the smoke at the beginning of the set i thought i was going to choke. It was overall a better show than the With Teeth shows back in 05. the setlist was 100000000 times better, hardly any stuff from With Teeth which was cool, however Only fucking rocks live.

Both Aaron and Trent both came off the stage at points in the show, Aaron literally fell right on top of me i managed to strum his guitar strings in the panic and touch his greasy hair.

Trent also shone a massive light right in my face which nearly blinded me.
The setlist was awesome, they way they launched into Burn and then into Hersey and Ruiner! I also really liked The Day The World went away and Hurt today.
There were no particular drags in the setlist like on the With Teeth tour, the show was just much better in general, however there were too many goths in the audience.

I cant wait for tomoorrow night.

an awesome gig! the lights were very minimal. thats a good thing.
I find that bands often use big lightshows to compensate for a weak set, but these guys made an awesome show with little backup form the stageset! great!

trent did joke about how his voice was a bit rough, but he would try to go on with the show, then, putting on super rough voice, made a crack about how sexy (or something) it sounded!

on a bad note:
to the fat guy with the blond mohawk who was super-drunk & moshing; everyone else was having a good time, most of the people moshing were in good spirits, but you were just obnoxious! My step-daughter nearly got herself ejected because you couldn't keep your hands to yourself. Maybe you have a thing for young girls, but whatever, before you start grabbing someone's ass (or worse) you get some f**king permission!! what gives you the right to go in & start making free with whatever bit of flesh you can find?? A lot of the girls in our vicinity felt very threatened by your behaviour, & if I see you at any of the next gigs, dont be surprised if you find yourself on the floor... That's really fucking shit about the fat mohawk guy. If he was messing with my woman/sister/niece/grandma I'd have lamped him there and then for the satisfaction of everyone in his vacinity. I'd get kicked out of the gig but at least I'd have three more to attend ;p (5 more including Amsterdam). No matter how pissed up and stoned I get at gigs I never act out of place.

Sorry - I'm posting and I didn't go.

Dude i was holding mine in my hand when i got patted down? Hmm maybe they think it's your phone now or something and Girls just get away with having those big old DigiCams i saw some of them have lol

I've never seen them take normal or digi cams off of people each time i've been Brixton, Unless it's by certain wishes of the band or if it's a video camera you get that taken from you, Which counts for pretty much everywhere anyway.

I certainly have, but if people are saying they were relaxed about it last night, then perhaps the band have said WTF, go ahead. I guess people can take their chances if they want, then.

Although I wasn't that surprised that most of the crowd had no idea what "Survivalism" was, I'm always disappointed when they get the same confused moo-cow expression on their faces when the band plays "Burn".
Was at the Academy last night, my very first NIN gig!

Ladytron - Came on at 8pm, not my cup of tea but were politely received.

Went to walk in, only to find I had tickets for unreserved seating upstairs! Initially this pleased me, but then when we were told we couldn't stand or smoke it turned out to be horrible. This was the last gig I wanted to be seated for and everytime I went to the toilet I got a glimpse of the chaos downstairs and got really p*ssed off I wasn't there. Still, guess it's my own stupid fault when I booked.

It's obvious why Trent's voice is (apparently) messing up...I've never seen so much dry ice in my life. Not sure how it looked downstairs, but we could barely see anything upstairs, especially for the first three tracks. I guess that's why the fire alarms were going off for most of the set...sort it out Brixton!

All that said, NIN were amazing. Trent may think his voice is suffering, but you'd barely notice. Everything was tight and focussed, my fave tracks being Piggy, Hand That Feeds and Head Like A Hole. Not much chatting to the crowd, but who cares? And is it typical not to do an encore? Not that it harmed the gig in any way.
Fantastic Gig last night!

I've seen NIN on three different tours (PHM '91, Fragility v1, '99, With Teeth, 2005) and this was a really great performance that definitely ranks up with the best of them.

Last, Heresy, Ruiner were unbelievable!

Shame they didn't do Sin, Terrible Lie, Down in it, Mr Self Destruct and the song I kept shouting for all night, the awesome HAPPINESS IN SLAVERY...can't have it all I guess!

Trent was in fine voice and has recovered incredibly well. I don't know how he does it night after night as I have totally messed up my voice today by screaming along like a maniac!

I thought the crowd was great and the moshers in front of me looked like they were having lots of good violent fun!

Awesome gig and great venue.

My first time at the Brixton Academy....

I was standing to the right of Trent in front of Aaron... So got to witness quite of few of his great solos during the concert...

I was totally surprised by how much songs they played off TDS and Broken but thoroughly enjoyed it. It was amazing... They played Ruiner and The Big Come Down which I was thrilled about...

Funnily enough I wasn't too disappointed by the lack of WT material... I got to see them play quite a bit of this stuff on the last tour...

Lets see what they bring in to the mix tonight....

I'm hoping for WITT....

Twiggy

I really wish I was going to all 4 gigs now... instead of just the 2....

For future reference, there's an easy way of getting around this that I've used before at Brixton.

1. Make friends with a small group in the lobby who does have downstairs tickets.
2. Ask them to go inside, but have one person collect all the group's ticket stubs and come back out to the lobby, where you remain waiting.
3. Take the downstairs ticket stubs from the people who are already in, and you waltz in yourself.
4. Give them their ticket stubs back.

This is easy, since there are bars and toilets inside the downstairs area, and no reason to come back out once you're in. Also, there are 3 different entrances to the downstairs area and they're not visible to each other, so it's easy to do the ticket-swap.
I had an SLR nabbed by security during Ladytron, they said it was because you arnt allowed any recording equipment at the venue. this was fairly lame as they had no problem with many digicams being blatantly used. (had they given the reason that SLRs are big and heavy and could have caused mishap that would have been more reasonable.. i was planning on putting it in its case in the cloakroom for NIN anyway. Trying to use a 2 kilo linp of steel in the moshpit would have been a baaaad plan, so i wasnt that fussed, they also left the film in there and i got of half a roll of Neopan 1600 for a uni project so its all good. Fortunatly they did not search me for my Cybershot so i had a digital camera for the rest.

Awesome gig, and yes fat mohawk guy leave our girls alone... sexual assault is not acceptable anyware. My girlfriend did not like being groped..

On another note, massive thankyou's goto everybody who stopped me getting destroyed when i had to duck below the croud in the moshpit when i dropped my memory stick... it was a very suicidal thing to do, but i had so much uni work on it life and limb took a backseat.

But yes, awesome gig, was great being so close.

And cheers Trent for going on with a fucked throat.

What an amazing show, there isn't much more to add except it was great they played so much from TDS last night, as last time I saw them it was the a-with-a-teeth-a tour and they played loads from The Fragile then, so that was good.

My brother caught Aaron's water bottle but a security guard took it off him on the way out, saying they didn't want him littering outside. Even though he pointed out there was no way he'd drop it as he was gonna take it home and treasure it, AND if he was gonna drop it he'd just do it there in the venue, they said "It's the law." and took it off him. He reckons he found the very same bottle in a bin afterward (identified it by a dent or something), so he's now got what might well have been Aaron North's bottle :)

I never noticed the fire alarm going off in Hurt, I was a little way back from the front in line with the ladies toilets. Strange.

shame the fat f*ck was back after a short respite; but he did get to feel my elbow in his face a few times... probably didn't feel a thing tho, he was so wasted

& ali, i guess you must've been in about the same area as me most of the gig, did you get a chance to put a boot in on the fat twat? hehe
Those god damn fire alarms! I think I was the only person that noticed them going off for what must have been 20 minutes. It took the stupid staff that long to work out they where going off! Thank god they shut it off quickly for hurt!
Strange how hardly anyone heard it, I have terrible hearing! Although, saying that, the sound was really good last night. Not too loud (I'm getting old, if it's too loud it just sounds distorted to me) and everything was pretty clear. The keyboards and synth where a little quiet in parts but other than that there wasn't much to complain about....
except the fire alarms!
I got to give trent a hug during piggy... and sing a little...
Was awesome... If anyone has pics of that bit let me know, would love to see them :P
Too right, though nothign liek what i imagine my girlfriends fingernails did when she dig them in pulling his hand of her arse. She has killer nails. Oh and a killer scream, anyone with damaged ears from last night who was close will know what i mean, apologies, she gets into her music hehe!

Last nights gig was very good. High lights for me were Ruiner and Suck although its always a pleasure to hear such a kick arse set list. The place was packed but there wasnt any crazy roughness- that I saw anyway. I was standing in front of the sound desk the whole night and although I did hear the fire alarm go off it was quite distant.

It was sad to hear Trent's voice fucking up- should he have even played last night? Isn't it just gonna make his voice worse? I dont suppose he wanted to let us fans down!
He said sorry again for Birmingham and that he was having trouble with his voice fucking up. then he mentioned that his voice was "still fucking with him" but he thought he sounded pretty fucking good- hee hee!!
He didnt sing some parts of some songs he usually does and he didnt sing some notes but to be honest you wouldnt really have noticed that if you didnt know what you were listening out for. There was a collective 'awh' from the crowd for Trent when the mic picked up his sad little coughing fit just before he sang Hurt.

I am the proud owner of one of the USB sticks (thanks Inky!) and thanks to ~Eris~ for handing me one of the AIR flyers to go with it- you guys rock!
The USB's were attached to the front barrier, on the shelf along the sides of the standing area and in the ladies loos!

Wish I could have stayed in London fo the next few gigs. Am very tempted to head out to Wolverhampton on Monday night after work!
I am addicted!

Yeah, There was a few people around me singing it..other than that, I felt guilty knowing the chorus cause it's obvious i've stolen it from the net (which Trent leaked anyway!)

But yeah, You come to expect the fans that come for just their March of the Pigs, Closer and Head Like A Hole's then when a new song or rarely set listed old song is played, They don't have a f'in clue what to do!

I can imagine there is so much lighting, strobe lighting and smoke going on that the band thought, What's the point in bringing cameras anyway? Might aswell let them try and get a good picture lol Although there were some perfect shots i could of got.

Excellent gig, great setlist. I didn't think Trent's voice sounded too bad at all although you could hear the strain during Hurt.

Yet again though as per our last trip to Brixton, my friend and I were surrounded by annoying fuckwits who either wanted to stand on top of us, deafen us with their atonal yelling or spill beer on us. We were stood at the barrier that's about half way between the stage and the sound desk, so we also spent a good part of the night trying to stop people running into it. One guy ran sideways into it, bounced off of it, looked confused and then tried to run through it again!

The fire alarm was going off upstairs I think, and I could hear it for at least 15 or 20 minutes.

I also met some other ETSers, although only briefly, but it was nice to put faces to names :)
Absolutely phenomenal show last night... the sound quality in Brixton is perfect.

Same setlist as the last show I went to (the Birmingham one on Sunday) which was both disappointing and a god-send...I wanted to hear other songs, but when the setlist is as perfect as that...

The lighting and overall tightness (you could actually hear the synths this time!) were better than Birmingham, and, although you could tell Trent's voice was a little fucked, it was overall a better performance I felt.

Aaron North is a god.

Ladytron were much better this time, better utilising the light rig and sounding better. That's the Academy for ya...

I much preferred it going completely black for HMIAIH, I thought it worked better...can't get over just how perfect this gig was. I'm tempted to buy more tickets for the weekend so I can go a third time...

When I saw Ladytron in Nottingham they had some kind of horror film playing on it. I can't remember the name of the film, its posted on the tour journal thread somewhere. I found it totally distracting.

Ah ok thanks. I thought they were ok but their songs got a bit boring as they went on. I think I saw the singer on the left take 3 steps at one point, but I might have imagined it.
Master Traveler
I think LadyTron sounded really good, I mean, If you're a fan, then i'm sure that would have been a bloody kick arse show.

The band just bored me though, But they're was nothing wrong with how they sounded, No out of tune singing etc.

Hell no, They're some very fuckin' awesome shots!!

I don't understand, Is it the person taking the photos or just the lighting and Trent always being perfect?

It looked like you could have projected a film onto it but this never happened. Anyone been to other shows and seen it being used?
Hey; in Notts they had some scenes which I think may have been from Susperia- although if they weren't they were from a film circa that era. The lights played haffoc with the screen though and you couldnt really see what they were playing.
They skipped it in Brum- I presume due to space allowance.
At Brixton I saw they tried to play it and a dvd sign came up so obviously there was some kind of malfunction. To be honest I didnt think the video added anything to their performance so you are not missing anything!!

Thanks very much! I doubt it's me that's for sure, must be Trent (although I do have one pic of him looking not so good).

After reading the mixed comments on the second night's show (it seems like only first-timers liked it), I'm glad that I went to this night. Certainly this was a far more awesome setlist for me.

C'mon the weekend!

This show was outstanding, my favourite TDS tracks were played and so I loved every minute of it. Because I'm a bit of a shortarse and I was doing this show from the sound booth I decided to climb up it for a better look and some super greasy pole swinging around and from what I could see, the show was fuckin sweet as hell. The lighting in the show is phenomenal and those UFO light things they swing around are an awesome touch.

Despite Trent's voice cracking up he still managed to pull of an amazing show. Good times!

It's abit of both, almost any position Trent is in is a classic shot lol but you've got good angles, took them at the right time etc. Awesome stuff.

Yeah his voice was fine, There was a few notes you could tell he didn't want to try cause of his voice, But other than that, I was amazed.
YEAH! Was a great show :) Was 3rd row center vis a vis Trent! Was able to touch Trent on Piggy and feel falling AAron's boots on my head YEA!

Great audience! I'm used to hardcore acts near the barriers (Polish specialty unfortunately) and the crowd in England was so nice and calm - Thank gods!

Greets for non-spiral queue members! the man with christianity flayers was so surprised to hear "If there is Hell I'll see you there" :D

Many thanks for people helped out with holding Polish flag! you guys rock!

march 7th happened to be my birthday so this was special anyways! Came over from germany again like i did in 2005 already.

Ladytron are awsome, i really have to get their record. Can't wait to see them in Germany again !

The dry ice was crazy. even before the show it seemed they wanted to smoke out the whole academy ! I was 2nd row in front of jeordie. (Realized he seems to really enjoy to swing those lamps around while Eraser :) )
Highlights for me were Songs like Burn, Eraser, The big comedown and although i am not a big fan of the closer song it sounds AWSOME live esp. with that bit off "the only time" at the end.
i did not realize any fire alarms during hurt though......

Before "the hand that feeds" trent said something like "this song is for george bush"

I've just listened to the bootleg and the correct order is:
Survivalism

Rest of setlist is correct.

Well, As I didn't see the show (and therefore same setlist) in Birmingham, I will just say this now: Of all the times I have seen NIN, tonight was my favourite show of them all. My God, I could have actually taken off I was so elated with it all.

I got one of the USB sticks and I feel like a total fraud for it. I've read nothing in the Year Zero section since it went up, and don't intend to either. The only things I know concerning this whole ARG thing are the bits I've gleaned from conversations around me. I don't care about it, but it is certainly one cool momento from my fave show.

I didn't hear the fire alarms, but I think I was way too into this show to have noticed a fire, nevermind an alarm.

My only negative, and to be honest it's not a negative in the strictest sense, is that after TDTWWWA and Hurt, I could not get back into it for THTF and HLAH, I had chilled out. Oh well, it's not like I haven't heard those two enough times anyway.

God, it was awesome.

We must of been really close because Aaron landed on top of me!

The Jesus guy was fantastic, we started chanting 'Darwin' to the tune of the Batman theme and when he told us Jesus gave us life, I told him that, in fact, my two dads gave me life, good times.

Haha i wondered if anyone would sing Heresy whilst he was about.

The leaflets he left were hilarious.

Oh totally. I mighta felt like a fraud but boy did I have a huge smirk on my face! I think it's a perfect memento, plus the video is awesome. I just like how the 12 of us in the group all left the Academy with one in our clutches.

Cheers for the links to pics and files all, much appreciated. I didn't have my camera with me at the gig as I didn't fancy getting it confiscated, so these are great!

This was the first gig I managed to get to, even though I've been dying to go see NIN live for years, and boy was it worth the wait! Fantastic show, awesome set list, it was like my own personal favourites list - and seeing Heresy live - surprised but delighted.

We were up in the circle so I dont know what the atmosphere was like downstairs, but the crowd where I was really got into it and bellowed along, even though there were confused "huh?"looks when Burn was launched into.

The dry ice was mental - it literally filled up the entire space, no wonder the poor fella is suffering with his throat. I'm surprised he managed to hold out for another few gigs too, considering he was struggling with illness(although have to say he was superb, you'd not really know there was anything up at all apart from one or two minor cracks, kudos for that!).
Bricklayer
sorry i have to ask this why were people confused when Burn was played is it not a well liked song or something, for me it was great as its one of the only tracks i knew really well as im not that hot on all the songs like some of you guys
