Despite the absence of hlah thats a pretty decent setlist. However I honestly don't know a)why wankers yell shit out during hurt b)why the people around said wanker dont smack them in the mouth.
Image

Yeah, it is unnecessary, but there's also no denying that TR gets angry easily.

Hmm... would this be the first or second time that The Frail is played without The Wretched?

That setlist looks badass.

Bricklayer
Holy shit - and I thought I got home quickly, there's already posts about this!

Yeah whoever was yelling shit ought to get smacked the fuck out, why goto a gig to heckle the band? Fucking pussy.

Brilliant setlist otherwise
Bricklayer
Overall a good show, but the lack of HLAH and Closer was kinda disappointing. Not to mention Hurt getting cut off.
Prince Adept
Oh, so there was no Closer? That's unusual.
Zodiak13 wrote:Holy shit - and I thought I got home quickly, there's already posts about this!
It's just because I've been relaying the info via sms.
Bricklayer
an amazing set that ended so horribly that it made me hate this gig
Bricklayer
closer wasnt played and i dont think it was going to be

"me im not" got canned and so did "HLAH" cuz of the fuckheads yelling in hurt

they were awesome but finished 20mins early!
Master of the Ninth Arch
Ruiner rocked!!!
Master ad Vitam
So...

No The Wretched after The Frail
No Closer
No Head Like A Hole
No Me, I'm Not and it was planned to be played.
Only without guitars. (They played this before.)
Hurt got cut off? (again)

Damn. Sounds like an interesting show. :P
Bricklayer
its funny.. sort of.. cuz im going to all 3 shows with my bro and i said i wouldnt mind the last show having something interesting happen, just to be there for ya know, a lighter throwing incident or something...

i said it as a joke tho, and look what fuckin happened!!

some people never learn... the guy is senistive about his performances. u shoulda seen the look he gave jordie when he realised jordie wasnt doing backing vocal in 'wish' (which was cuz aaron knocked his mic stand down, but the steely glare of reznor came out for sure haha)
Bricklayer
GRIMLOCK MAD!
Bricklayer
I'm so pissed about that show. I can't believe Trent just cracked the shits and stormed off.... I hope someone cracked that ahole who yelled out the stuff.
The gig was great tho before that.
Lots of stuff ups - computers not going right, guitars not going right, then hurt.....
Bricklayer
kristyan wrote: u shoulda seen the look he gave jordie when he realised jordie wasnt doing backing vocal in 'wish' (which was cuz aaron knocked his mic stand down, but the steely glare of reznor came out for sure haha)
i noticed that too!!!

Ryan. wrote:Yeah, it is unnecessary, but there's also no denying that TR gets angry way too easily.

Closer probably was played and naut just forgot to mention it.
I don't remember Closer being played. Overall, it was a really good night, actually prefered it to when I saw them at rod laver in '05. The new songs worked really well, was great hearing "capital g" live.

Whilst it no doubt sucked that it ended early, I hope everyone keeps in mind that it was a great show. I do realise it's kinda like watching a really good movie that seems to have a tacked on ending, but don't let that ruin it for you.

anyway, off to bed, got to get up at 5am to drive back to the country for work (starting at 11am)
Prince Adept
I'm off to sleep too. Hopefully tomorrow's show is better for you guys!

naut: die.
Bricklayer
it was still a really great show thats for sure. the end just gives a great story to tell haha. plus theres still tix for tuesday if u wanna see the whole thing

i gota teach in the morning.. might wear my 'art is resistance' tee to fire up my year 11s

cya 2mrw night!
Bricklayer
I'm not too worried about the setlist being cut short - I've heard HLAH way too many times - but I REALLY want to know what the "really cool" thing was when they brought out that keyboard/midi thing. While they were fucking around with it, all that was going through my head was "The Great Destroyer The Great Destroyer The Great Destroyer".

I can dream. :(

Awesome show otherwise, Ruiner was fantastic.
Prince Adept
I thought the show was great! the first half in particular. thanks for posting my updates ryan.

AND CAPITAL FUCKING G

TR's hissy was LMAO.

Somewhat Damaged
You Know What You Are?
Sin
March Of The Pigs
Piggy - massive sing along by the crowd
The Beginning Of The End
Survivalism
Ruiner (!!!)
Burn
Gave Up
Help Me I Am In Hell
The Frail
The Good Soldier
Wish
Only (TRs guitar wouldnt work so it was a bit of an extended version until it kicked in)
Capital G!!!
Suck
Hurt - cut short. Someone yelled out WHAT ARE YOU DOING AFTER THE SHOW and TR got all "Do you expect me to ignore that? I come down here and you yell that out?" blah blah
The Hand That Feeds
No Head Like A Hole at the end due to prior hissy fit.

Before either The Frail or The Good Soldier they tried to do Me Im Not but the rig wouldnt work. TR said something like "this is why you dont make music with computers because someone kicks the plug out" He also said "Sorry about the past few shows" (hmph) at some stage.

My faves: Capital G! Only, Somewhat Damaged, Piggy.

Seriously though. Get fucking rid of Burn, Suck and Gave Up. I'd rather hear Closer than any of those.
Bricklayer
in sydney it was used to play "me im not"

so i assume it was for that

first example ive ever seen of a macbook fuckin up tho lol

Please tell me a bunch of guys ended up decking that guy who yelled shit. Was an awesome gig apart from that
Master ad Vitam
fucking awesome.
I was saying in the line that somewhat damaged was a great opener, but i wasnt expecting to hear it again.
and ruiner, fuck yeah.
Josh having a drumgasm during survivalism, HA! and then doing his usual coffee drinking.

TRENT WE'RE ALL VERY SORRY ABOUT THAT ONE ARSEHOLE!
The rest of us don't bite the hand that feeds.
WHY don't these people get the shit kicked out of them?

I thought security would never get rid of 1000 angry nin fans.
i hope he doesn't hold a grudge against us.
Master of the Ninth Arch
best opening to a concert... ever
but also worst end to a concert
there was definitely more than one asshole there though
Master Traveler
Fuck me awesome gig (despite the quick wrap up!).
Got to be in front of Trent 3 people back for most of the gig (I had to scatter to the bar after Only tho for some water).

The opening was fucking awesome, it seemed like a anti-climax as the lights didn't go out instead Trent just rocked up, but fuck me it blew the fucking Metro up :) so good!

Josh absolutely killed during THTF the drumming was really fucking good. Other than that waiting in an alleyway that stank of fish for the Spiral entrance wasn't great, but the gig rocked. serena-maneesh I thought were surprisingly better than what I expected from the reports on here, nothing fantastic but definitely OK for a support band I thought. Anyway I'm going to go wash my Cum Rag top for use again tomorrow night :)! Oh and to the girl who was in line next to me and my girlfriend (had just gotten back from Europe) sorry if I was yelling lyrics into your ear as I was stuck behind you in the mosh before you got pulled out! hehe
Bricklayer
upandatthem wrote:an amazing set that ended so horribly that it made me hate this gig
Im so sad that I have to agree with you completley.
And it wasnt just that one guy during Hurt, it was the whole heap of people who decided it would be fun to chuck a hissy fit themsleves after the band walked off.
Repling to one hissy-fit with another hissy-fit isnt going to equal HLAH people.
And besides, I doubt Trent could have made it thru another song. He was dying during Hurt, the poor guy.
Oh yeah, and the security not giving out water for the first half (at least)...Thats not just dumb, its a hazard as well.

But on a brighter note, we got 'Da Bom Song!!!!
And (for the most part) I really did enjoy the show!
Bricklayer
i chatted to the engineer whilst they packed up and he said they were going to play me, i'm not.
This is just another mark against the Metro. First, all the little shits nearly bash people to death, and now ..... well, what else can you do?
This tour is not going right for NIN.
There were mad rumors going around that Aaron North had quit in Sydney.
Anybody got truth to that?

And of course, hanging (briefly) with the already met but equally awesome Sickamongthepure and Naut is always great. You are all top people.

Shit, i had a great time...Spew about the show being cut short, but PUH- LEEZE! How much of that crap is he expected to put up with during Hurt?

To the guy that yelled out "WHAT ARE YOU DOING AFTER THE SHOW TRENT!"- I hope you die in the most miserable, lonely way possible...You are shit. Pure dickheadery. Ditto those shirtless fucks in the pit. Go back to Limpbizkit.com

Also spewing the MAC/Keyboard contraption broke down during Me, I'm Not...

But i still had an awesome fucking time. Better than 2005? You bet...

I thpught they were going to play Eraser, they normally play that right after Help Me I'm In Hell. What makes you say it was going to be Me, I'm Not?

EDIT: ok, I guess a few other sources confirm it was Me, I'm Not. Damn, would have been nice to hear that. Oh well, 4 songs from YZ is still pretty damn good, including one premiere.
Master of the Ninth Arch
ok...i hope everyonelayed that prick a few punches, really ruined the atmosphere... up until then it was fucking amazing!

*edit* also sareena maneesh (spelling?) were so so, will agree with others the drummer was great, the rest of it was way too much wanking around on the guitars and i couldnt even make out the vocals
Master of the Ninth Arch
My review:

The earplugs I was wearing worked almost too well. The band actually sounded kinda quiet. I thought to myself "oh, they're not that loud" and pulled the earplugs out for a second. OUCH. It was unbelievably LOUD in there. So I stuck them back in.

Mike, the only person who recognised me in my oversized Superman shirt, instantly struck me as a good guy. What's your handle here?

I was also way up the back when the band started playing, having to bounce on my toes just to see anything. I felt it would be rude to push my way forward, but after a couple of songs it seemed fairly obvious to me that most of the people there were where they wanted to be, and were happy to let me squeeze through into the mosh pit. Thanks!

Finally, the music. It was awesome. I was hoping for a Hyperpowered opening, but Somewhat Damaged is one of my favourites, so I was just as happy, if not more, to see that.

It doesn't show that much on Halo 22, but Josh Freese looks fucking awesome when he's drumming. He was the most fun member of the band to watch. And Ruiner was amazing. Amazing. And I'm not a Ruiner nut like a lot of people are, I prefer Eraser and I Do Not Want This, but Ruiner live was _something fucking else_.

When shit started fucking up, like the computer and the guitars during Only, Trent was actually pretty cool about it. It was actually kinda cool that something different happened, and I liked the way he sang "and it doesn't really matter any more <mumble> like my fucking guitar</mumble>" That was great.

But the second that guy shouted "I FUCKING LOVE YOU TRENT" I was thinking "oh fuck, here's some dickhead who's seen the Berlin footage", and I think Trent thought it too, because you could see it in his face, but he pushed on with the song. But that fucking guy, he would not shut the fuck up, he knew what might happen, and he wasn't going to shut up until it did.

Now, I don't care if you think Trent should harden up, if he gets pissed too easily, I think he really tried. And I was fuckin' embarrassed. That guy gave the whole crowd - gave Melbourne - a bad fucking name. And I think a lot of other people in the crowd felt the same, from the expressions I saw.

The whole band was pissed, too. The way they played THTF was perfunctory, just to get it over a done with a quick loud one. And Jeordie was shaking his head at the audience the whole time.

I know Trent looks in on ETS now and then, and I reckon he might want to see what we say after that show, so I'd like to say sorry. I don't blame him for cutting it short, I think the band was fucking amazing, and I hope he doesn't let one fucknuckle ruin his opinion of Melbournians.

And while I don't endorse violence in any form, I admit that I found myself wishing that someone near him was willing to give him a quick jab to the mouth, if only to distract him from being a cocksucker, rather than to actually wound him. I wonder if he feel satisfied with himself right now? I mean seriously, even if that was the result he was after, does he feel good about it now?

Anyway, it was a great show. I really enjoyed myself, and I can't wait to it it all again (hopefully with some different songs and no enormous fuckheads) tomorrow. Well, technically later today, now.
Master of Achievement
I need to post things in the right places.
Screech Of Machines wrote:Am I the only one who thinks the hissy fits are rehearsed? I mean, it wasn't exactly the most offensive thing anyones ever yelled out during hurt. Still, anyone who yells anything out during hurt (or any other quiet song) is a tosser.. I heard that dude got a few elbows to the head trying to escape.

I had my hand on the tambourine. So so close :(

To the people who stand in the pit looking grumpy whenever everyone else starts jumping/dancing/whatever to a popular song - get the fuck out. What do these people expect, seriously?

As for Trent's voice - he was leading a lot more audience singalongs than usual.
Master of the Ninth Arch
the stupidity truely does amaze me...saying we love you i can handle, but a little fucking respect would go a long way. i really do wonder if that fucking moron has even listened to the lyrics of hurt. shame on him for ruining something so intimite and personal, not only to trent but im sure all the fans as well. i just hope trent doesnt hold it against the rest of us.

First show on the tour not to play Head Like a Hole. Damn shame about the circumstances. Hopefully we have a chance to make up for it tomorrow.

I totally agree! I didn't mind at all that we didn't hear Closer or HLAH.. Ruiner was a mazing! The sound was so damn good. Giving out tickets at the end was fun. And good on Trent for walking off. Hey dickhead- it takes several days and at times many weeks for recordings to appear. You expect them to appear instantly?
Master Traveler
I can't believe I heard a crowd boo NIN. Was there a 'Trent is a w*nker' chant at once stage, or were we just hearing the words wrong?

I was near a guy who kept yelling out, but was smart enough to keep his damn mouth shut during Hurt.
MikeyLiz
Good post slopes.

As to removing Burn and Gave Up, NO WAY! Remove Suck, but the other two were highlights.

I say, if people are yelling during hurt we gang bash the cunts.

Glad to see "Capital G" got played live. And Trent is quite sensitive during "Hurt" and he pretty much deserves to be. Still, you guys were the first ones to see Capital G's premiere, which is pretty cool.

Ouch V_V no wonder the band was so pissed off with such technical difficulties as those, then to top it all off, "Hurt" being screwed around with. Why was the crowd screaming during all that technical difficulty noise too? >_>

aside from the utter retardedness of paying $80 to heckle a band, even if they are just being drunk, you gotta remember that a venue like Metro, you'll hear every single little word that's yelled out.

hey, you're welcome man. yeah, I have one other video, but it's quite big in raw form. I need to process it before youtube will accept it, working on that now.

Update on the line jumpers: Sully told them to!
They were at the end of the line, by the alley, and when they got their tickets from Sully, they asked where to line-up, Sully told them that he was about to move the line to the alley, so they should stay there and they can get at the front of the line.

So as much as i hate line-jumpers, they did what they were told.
Boo Sully, boo.
That saves me the hassle of getting it off my friend's phone.

Thankyou for posting, please post more if you have them.
Small request: megaupload or something please?

Now seems like a good time to plug this collection of non-youtube nin videos - collections like this CAN'T happen if everyone puts everything on youtube and nowhere else.
So please, think of the children.

The raw form is the straight-from-the-digicam motion jpeg. I doubt you will notice the quality difference re-encoding to xvid and it's less than a fourth the size. YouTube will only accept videos up to 100mb in size, that's why I have to do this. I haven't touched the audio (mostly because I've been having problems with it) so no loss there, but again, the quality in mp3 vs PCM shouldn't be too noticable anyway (I mean, it's a digicam, it's not like it sounds pristine to begin with).

can I just add that some people in the Spiral need to chill the fuck out. seriously.
MikeyLiz
Chill the fuck out? Or Harden the fuck up?
Bricklayer
Somewhat Damaged was a great start to the show and I was so happy to hear Ruiner.

Everyone yelling out during Hurt was annoying. There was moment during the middle of the song where he paused and it couldn't hear a sound, it was amazing, then the idiots wanting to be heard ruined the rest of it.

Trents voice sounding like it was struggling near the end. During Hurt it sounded a bit strained and he didn't hit the higher notes in Only. I hope he's OK for tonight.

The energy was brilliant, but the end left me thinking 'is that it?'

Not trying to give anybody shit here, but I don't recall of too many incidents like this in the American With Teeth Tours from 05-06...the concert I went to at Hi Fi Bi Ampitheater with Bauhaus opening had a fantastic crowd. And the only incidents I DO remember hearing were "SOMETHINGS GONNA GIT BROKEN" and the lighter thing.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Alright, managed to get a working copy up on YouTube:

The Frail + Good Soldier

This was right after the aborted attempt at "Me, I'm Not".
MikeyLiz
All the idiots yelling through The Frail is bad enough. I'd hate to see what Hurt was like.

Cheers for upping that. Awesome quality.
Grand Pontiff
I was right down the front near TR with schteph, Christo and Mafu for this show, getting majorly squished. I ended up seeing spots during Only and decided it was probably a good idea to have security pull me out and I watched the last few songs from the side of the barrier.

The show was awesome, and I liked the layout of the venue, but fuck it was HOT down there. They really needed to hand out more water, a girl over my shoulder was begging and begging for it and security just laughed it off. Another girl got pulled out unconscious after me and THEN they tried to pour water down her throat.

Ruiner was AWESOME, also loved the Somewhat Damaged opener and Sin. I can live without Closer, Hurt and Head Like A Hole, they're not going far.
Most of the fans I met were pretty cool (guy whos american tshirt we minded, you out there?) although schteph had some absolute cock using her as a elbow rest, screaming out "you're so HOT Trent" ect

Great to meet everyone properly, seeing Mr and Mrs Blud, schteph, Christo, Louise, Mafu, hughman, Lady K, I'm forgetting some people here! I was looking out for slopesandsam's superman shirt but missed it. I did see darkscreamz cum rag tshirt (eww) though, if I see you again tonight I'll say hi.

Prince Adept
the security there were a bit shithouse - kids getting pulled out were just being sat in the bar on the left, there were no first aid workers and the staff in the bar just stared at them. it was really fucking annoying because i was standing near that bar (On my bag stuffed with merch, I got an extra 6" of height awesome) and I constantly had security dragging girls past me. oh and it WAS fucking hot in there, even I started to feel woozy about halfway through and I wasn't anywhere near the pit.
Grand Pontiff
I got the feeling security had no clue what to expect and were really under prepared. None of them were wearing back braces, which I've never seen, and during the quiet songs they stood back and smoked (hey, how about some water?). I watched the last few songs from the bottom of those steps that were behind the barrier.
At least they gave me a big cup of ice/water after I got pulled out, I think I would have passed out with out it.
Prince Adept
same here. metro's never really had a band on like NIN before. i wonder if tonight will be any better. im gonna go upstairs tho tonight.

I've been behind the glass on the 2nd level at Metro shows before at its kinda cool - sound is great and you can see everything. But last night everyone up there just semed to be standing there, not cheering, not dancing, nothing.
Bricklayer
Speaking of the security, my friends gf looks like a shorter version of that blond guitarist from SM, and when they were checking tickets they said "just need to look in your bag BABE" ewwww.

Did anyone else find it kinda strange that they didn't really look at the tickets as they took them, but had a whole pile of them on one of the counters after? If I was actually living in Melbourne I'd be trying my chances for tonight...... on second thought, that's a bit of a bastard thing to do, but at least those going tonight (monday) will get to see the full set

the view from up behind the glass was good, not sure about the sound tho

It was an amazing show.

It was my first NIN gig and i have been a fan for about 7 years now.

I was stunned and shocked. It truely was a feast.

Hey, nice to indirectly meet you! You let my g/f Kate have some water just before the show, she much appreciated! :)

Also I think I know that TWAT girl you were talking about, she pushed her way through and ended up putting her arms around some guy next to me that she didn't know which meant her elbow was directly level with my throat/face. I asked her to move her elbows and she just repeated it back to me all 'stand off ish'. She then proceeded to bitch to someone about me in her drug/drunk/hippy "I'm a self centered bitch' voice when I'd gotten like 1 person away from her and exclaiming how 'it was a mosh' 'like oh my god'. Last time I checked a mosh can be full-on, but people deliberately making everyone in the sardine tin around them uncomfortable because they decide to have their arms flailing in every direction around them still count as being fucking tools. Not to mention the "fucking trent yeah!" that she repeatedly yelled out was getting just a 'little' tiresome. Bitter much? :)
What a freakin dissapointment. That show made me want to never put another cent into his music. Don't get me wrong, the show was great. But it's not like he hasn't been heckled before! Yesterday I had so much respect for trent as a man, a misician and an artist. Now I have no respect...he not a man, he's a child.

*waves* I remember you guys! Yeah I think we're thinking of the same twat. She kept ranting on about how "it's a mosh, you're supposed to be really aggressive" and when schteph asked her to take her elbows off her shoulders she spent the next 10mins screaming into her ear.

I'm sorry but I don't quite follow your logic here. How is it unprofessional to cut the show just a LITTLE short when the crowd won't shut the fuck up(besides singing along and what not of course) during one of your more intimate, quiet songs? Drunk or not, come on now. And so what if you didn't get the typical HLAH ending. You still got a kickass show. Just watching those clips of Capital G and The Good Soldier showed me that.
Master of the Ninth Arch
For those of you who've seen other NIN shows (either live or via other means) does this sort of heckling happen often during 'Hurt'? Or is it just drunk Australian yobbos? I've seen NIN three times before this but can't remember if it happened or not.

Feeling v.ashamed to be a Melbournian right now.

i was pissed off too, but look at it this way - all the shit that Trent does for his fans leading up to the album, the fact that this isn't really a full tour for the album, just a tour because they want to come and play for his fans. Then how are you repaid? You get stuck with a crappy location and a shortened playing time in Brisbane, an even shittier venue in Sydney, and you get to Melbourne with a slight hint of a decent venue only to have the guitar not work for one song, and the laptop screw up for another song, then you finally play the one song that you know everyone loves, and you've got some drunk wanker yelling shit out at you.

I reckon I would've walked off too.

In 2005, people were yelling "I love you Trent" etc as they always do, and a few GUYS were yelling out "I want to have your babies". I've never heard any paticularly offensive heckling, most of it is faux-obsessive stuff, I'm guessing it's people trying to mock the "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen i love trent and would die for him" type fans....

Still, the fuckers need to shut up. I have a feeling if people start yelling out tonight or tomorrow the crowd is going to turn nasty and there'll be some flying elbows.

Yeah I see your point... I prob. would of the same (walk off that is) BUT I am not a professional musician that has been in the industry and should be used to it...

Can I just throw this out there to everyone...? We all seem to be assuming that he/they walked off because of US the Audience giving him a rough time, but maybe he couldn't go on any further because of his throat thing??? and if it is that, then he perhaps should of postponed the Melbourne gigs as well to give 100%

But if he did in fact walk off because of the audience, then the spoilt li'l brat label sticks, because we paid GOOD money to see a full set.

At the end of all, I think a simple explanation would make things better.

No, you suck. Trent cut off 1 song, boo hoo. Want a tissue? You don;t see the other people bitching with this "i've lost my respect" bullshit. You guys still got a good setlist.

Not doing Head Like a Hole could be for more reasons then what happened during Hurt. The place was Hot, maybe the band were hot too. Maybe they were up to the venues curfew. Maybe there were more technical issues. Maybe Trent thought his throat had had enough pounding for the night. Maybe they were never going to play HLAH. Im sure it would take more then a few idiots yelling during Hurt to make him go off. There would have been other factors.

I disagree with the people who think Trent should harden up over this shit.

An artist is expected to lay their feelings on the line, put on a believable performance, but when it is disrespected he is expected to just live with it?

If someone did that near me I WOULD smack them, and I'm not a big girl. Shit, if someone did that to an unknown artist in a shitty little pub, I would take them to task.

Not only that, but when he was tinkering around with the computer, making some experimental-type noises while he waited, some yobbo near me was shouting out "Play somethin ya bastard". WTF!

I felt like I was in a room full of truckers watching a Chisel cover band for free.

After he stopped 'Hurt', some prick from the balcony yelled out "Trent needs a tissue"

Why should an artist who has tred the boards for so many years, have to stand on the stage and feel like he is being bullied by an audience?________________

^ the TR of old would have yelled out something nasty back at him and made the dude look like an idiot instead of stomping off. i kinda miss that.

great show apart from the creeps yelling out shit i think theres a time and place to voice your opinions and that was the worst possible time and to the people saying that you have lost respect in Trent i think thats pretty weak and your most likely the people that yell this shit out and should open up your eyes you can only push people so far before they snap and last night was an example of that
Bricklayer
In response to Naut - I actually don't think this would have happened to the TR of old.

The audience had such a reverence for the show he put on when I first saw him do Hurt live. Its as though certain people don't care now because the song has been played out on the radio, etc. The new breed of fans is generally a bunch of wankers from what I can see.

Yep, gotta agree with this. Maybe over the years he's just gotten sick of people during Hurt that he's decided to do something about it. We've heard that sound clip from Germany, that was only a few months ago right?

As for smacking people who yelled out. I was waiting for the guy near me to start yeling again, but he was smart enough (Or too drunk) to yell during Hurt and didn't cop my hand to the back of his head.

And the PC noises while trying to get it working. Was starting to think maybe a teaser of a new song for Part 2.

I felt like I was in a room full of truckers watching a Chisel cover band for free.

Yes - Exactly that. It was embassring (Yes I can't spell). It's wrong to boo a band who has just done an awesome concert, even if they do cut a song short. Show some respect for the hard work that has been done and the years of great music that has been made.

i was up second level, the second last step from the front, wasnt bad, had a railing to hold on to, and spent the start sitting in some nice leather chairs someone left behind.. the view was decent... id seen nin in Brixton Acad. 2005 and at bdo melbourne 2000 so i knew what to expect and being 5foot7 i wasnt going to survive in the 'Pit so i wanted a spot i could see, the glass was a pain but still good view, sound was good, but we never actually heard yelling out during any of the songs from the floor, so when trent said during Hurt about 'i can hear u asshole' we werent too sure what had happened.. was thinking we were llucky to get hand that feeds as most bands dont bother to come back if one member is pissed off.. his voice was definitely dying at the end which was a shame, but yah considering people here have different opinions on what was said, who knows apart from trent.

fanastic concert in my opinion, was really enjoyable, the entrance was wierd, he just walked out and people went nuts, was expecting Hyperpower or something to let the crowd know, but newp.

had fun and almost missed the last train back to sydhnam which ment for a LONG walk back to Ballarat.

Yeah the jeering all through Hurt was terrible. I don't think he was angry at the "what are you doing after the show?" comment in particular. It just made him snap.

I'm not talking about stopping Hurt or retaliating, that I can understand. I'm talking about cutting the show short (though it wasnt cut anywhere near as short as some people seem to think) and seemingly judging the whole audience on those few assholes.

Trent hasn't commented, so i'm not sure how he judged the whole crowd.

As to ending early, theres nothing confirming that the yelling during Hurt was the reason for not doing Head Like a Hole. I havn't seen how it ended, but maybe it was always the plan?

Consider that the other 2 shows had Hyperpower as an intro and it's 20 songs each date. Me I'm Not ending up not being played would have meant you got 1 less song. I'm not sure whether they had the opportunity to do another song due to what they were organised for to make up for Me I'm Not. Why would you do an extra song after the technical problems, throat problems, heckling and the extreme heat and fans being dragged out unconcious. I'm sure a lot of factors just made them want to get the hell out of there.
Prince Adept
Forgot Capital G, too. ^
MikeyLiz
Fixed it.

In that case, you guys got a full set really.
Master of Achievement
And listed Wish twice.

I don't paticularly care about Head Like A Hole not being played, nor Closer not being played.... honestly I kinda want them to stop playing Hurt too, I'm sick of it and it gives the crowd too much opportunity to be wankers.

The way the show was finished off definitely seemed like a cut-short deal though, I don't know if it really was but it definitely seemed that way. And IF it is the case, that is punishing the many for the actions of a few.

I got annoyed with the fuckwits in the mosh - drunk yobbos, people constantly yelling out, assholes trying to make the pit as violent and dangerous as possible, and those guys that took off their shirts. Also, kind of on the other hand, people who get into the pit right down the front expecting that they can have 20 feet of personal space and no movement from the crowd around them - it's exactly the same at every fucking concert, you know what you're in for so if you can't deal with it GTFO seriously.

Forgetting all of that bullshit though, I absolutely fucking loved the show. The setlist was orgasmic, the crowd interaction was nice (before the end of the show, Trent was a lot more talkative than he was in 2005, made the show seem more personal), and despite the technical difficulties, the band was brilliant. Also happy that so many YZ songs were played.
I was also really pleased to see that a lot of people were practicing good crowd etiquette - apologising if they bumped someone more violently than intended, helping people up who were falling over (you're welcome to the girl who thanked me), and a nice sense of comradery for the most part. :)
Master Traveler

i was by the mixing desk for most of the night and it didn't seem too hot to me, usually sweatiness. and i had two shirts on cause passouts weren't till NIN took the stage. hopefully people at tonights gig will be better, and if anything happens they'll post here.

Haha, your right, Wish is on there twice. Thats what you get for pasting a setlist someone wrote in a hurry. Glad to see you've cooled off though.

If anyone bootleged this gig, it would be much appreciated.
I cant think of many things that will ever match it.
Trent was staring directly at me during the end of Piggy, which i then had the amazing opportunity of singing the outro of. Yeah, something that wont be forgotten anytime soon.

He did this when they played Into the Void i think when i saw them live (it was not this gig)- Jeordie skipped some backing vocals.

When they played hurt a few months ago in Brixton too, some tosser shouted "Come on Reeeznaaaa" right as Trent was singing which pissed me off- singing along is great , but shouting moronic comments is irritating and shows lack of respect.

Thanks for the video link Spider, very interesting.

I'll be honest, it's a rock show in a club where people are encouraged to drink. If Trent can't deal with people yelling then he shouldn't play small venues. He wants an intamite performace on his terms and not his "fans"?

Yes Trent, focus on the big picture and the countless fans in the back that have NO clue as to what's happening and continue playing.

It's a rock concert, not the symphony, and called maturity.

I did a quick search of each page for the word "rape" and couldn't find it.

Are we not talking about that here?
Bricklayer
So it's a day later - what to say? This was the second big gig of the year for me (first being Muse back in Feb), and I thought this was a great gig - I had my reservations about the venue, but I underestimated The Metro as a place to hold a band (last time I was there was when some friends wanted to go clubbing - NEVER AGAIN), but it's true that what went down at the end of the night left a sour taste in peoples mouths.

I didn't quite hear what was said from where I was (just by the bar on the first floor), but I thought it was obvious the crowd was jeering the hecklers and not TR. I did hear somebody tell out "Trent you're a wanker"... why?

I'm happier to hear that they only cut HLAH from the end, but still, screw the wanker that yelled out. But also you'd think Trent would be kinda used to dealing with crazy, maybe even obnoxious crowds. The other thing that I noticed that there were some real yobs in the crowd. Glitzed up goths I expected, but bogans? Ah well.
The main highlight was Sin for me. Lowlight was people shoving their way past my position every 2 friggin minutes.

Overall, good night. If my ass was made of money, I would have gone tonight too, heh.

But it wasn't on his fans terms. It was turned into a show-off session for some embarrassing yobbos which the fans didn't approve of.

Its like an artist hanging his paintings in a gallery and when people start pissing on them he is called a baby for removing the paintings from the wall. Get real.

The cockheads who were pushing through everyone are to be expected at a guitar gig (or even from coked up 'muzzas' at a dance party these days). I was surprised when I scared 2 guys into going back though when they tried to plonk themselves right in front of as soon the band fired up. I have 2 kids and I'm used to being as scary when I lay down the law as I can. In my mummy voice I said "Oh no you don't - keep moving or go back!" hehe :p
Master Traveler
Nads, you missed my point (I think). Trent walked off liked a pissed off baby because he was being heckled or people weren't listening to his song. I'm a HUGE fan of the song and NIN, but to expect the entire crowd to be quite in a bar is silly. How many new bands get to pull shit like that!

The song is not a painting and no one pissed on it - Trent was immature and tried to force the crowd to play by "his" rules. Fuck him. I've seen NIN well over 20 times - 18 in the last 24 months - and watching that video clip made my blood boil at how immature Trent was. I was shoocked and still am. He should know better.

And Nads, you being a dad leads me to think you're kids have probably tried the same shit (stamp their feet and walk away) and I bet you don't put up with it - yet the fans two nights ago got to pay for the experience.

Hehe, I'm a mum :p

Sorry, I just can't agree. When you lay something on the line as an artist and it is not respected, why the hell should you have to play?

Also, I really don't think this would have happened on the Downward Spiral tour for instance. There was such an awe for the songs and the performance given back then (95) that I can't imagine this happening. I think the crowd is full of largely 'newer' fans who have just heard the song rehashed over and over on radio, etc and the respect or relevance is lost on them.

I was at the Sunday night show. Thought everything was going well until the couple of equipment malfunctions, but then the bogan d!ckheads yelling sh!t just seemed to be the last straw. I just wanted the guy to shut the hell up so I could listen to the music. In some respects I couldn't blame Trent for cracking the sh!ts, but at the same time I was really disappointed that the show ended that way.

The thing that really struck me about the gig was the crowd. As a general comment, it was one of the most feral I've seen. The amount of drunk fu@$ing boneheads was depressing. If you want to get waisted go to a pub, don't waste $90 on a ticket to a gig only to prove what an a$$ clown you are by spoiling the show! Going to the mens room, I nearly got pi$$ed by a f@#king flannel wearing meat puppet. How did this f@#ktards even get tickets? Maybe it's time to start a screening process, where you need to answer 3 simple NIN related questions before you can buy your ticket?

The way the show ended was just plain bad, and I still feel pissed off about it. I feel pissed off, and embarrassed. Hopefully I get to see NIN play live again.

Sorry, rant over.
Grand Pontiff
ahem i believe we got two premieres

Captital G
and
Only (Broken Guitar Remix)

when trent said that i almost spat out my water....

"I'm just gonna keep going until they fix my guitar.... COuld be a Couple of minutes could be a couple of hours... ... Looks like a couple of Hours"

His guitar also fucked up at the end of wish so he threw it off...

I felt so bad at the end almost ashamed...

Ruiner rocked and Capital G tore the fucking place apart....

It was also kinda cool watching trent try to fix his laptop... scratching his face and anger started to rise and rise and rise...

The band was on fire and made the '05 show look like shit trent was much more animated...

Although i was disappointed with the ending i just have to think:

We got a new Song
Trent "disposing" of a lighting rig (during piggy)
We got Technical Problems
We got a dummy spit...

we got the entire NIN experience...

The guy yelling during hurt was bad but i felt the guy upstairs who yelled "COME ON!!!!" when trent was fixing the laptop was worse...

I loved the show (bar the end)

I do like how we all kinda stood there after THTF like "what the fuck?" and even as they were turning off the keyboards we were still standing there... and how as everyone left taking two steps... looking back.... two steps... looking back - just to make sure it was over...

As with the harden the fuck up issue i dont blame trent for walking away
as he said during hurt

" Ok, What?... What did you say?... I don't understand if i'm supposed to ignore some fucking asshole yelling at me during a song"

I hope the guy got jumped....

Aaron was great but he always is Josh = amazing and AC too but Jeordie was on fire... i sttod infront of him during the 05 show and he barley moved the other night he was Starting chants and jumping around....

the lights were good too...

I hope he comes back in sept after doing the resched. syd gigs...

Did spirallers get anything other than early entry???

Anyway... great(ish) gig...

Am I the only one that actually enjoyed myself on sunday night? I'm not saying the ending was what I'd expect. Maybe it's cuz I didn't have the option of going to the monday or tuesday show cuz of work commitments, but I thought it was pretty damn good on sunday, not to say that monday might have been better, but the way some people seem to be talking you'd think it was the worse gig ever.

I was lucky enough to see them in 2005 at Rod Laver and rate that as the best concert I've seen. In terms of 'crowd behaviour', there was nothing in 05 that even remotely came close to what happened sunday.

Yeah I'm actually thinking this may have happened... after Trent stopped and got all angry at the douchebag, someone to my right yelled out "kick that fucker out", and shortly after, Trent said "oh I'm in trouble now"... I think he thought whoever it was meant kick HIM out, not the heckler.
To be honest, I never thought the booing was directed at Trent or the band, I just assumed people were booing the tosser that ruined the end of the show?

what the fuck is wrong with some people? You don't ruin an experience you have been waiting for by making an already frustrated Trent Reznor even more pissed off. The saddest part is the guy who screamed is probably bragging about that shit. He is probvably running around to all his friends saying I pissed off Trent Reznor so much he walked off stage. Trent we still love ya, Fuck those assholes! Imagine being on the road as long as he has, it is surpirising he hasn't flipped more often and worse then this. Did anyone make out what the guy said? We all get angry when a bunch of shitty things happen to us in a sustained period of time. I can understand how bad it is for someone who is as much of a perfectionist as Trent. Everyone give him a break and be thankful he has been touring as much as he has been.

Jesus I just watched the you tube video. His voice sounded amazing. I wonder if he was trying to record for a live album of the future? Maybe that is why he got even more pissed? That girl screaming make some fucking noise really got me angry. Either you sing along with the song or shut the fuck up. That is like yelling "Hell Fucking Yeah!" to the choir at church. You can hear the small breaks in his piano playing when he starts to get pissed.
Bricklayer
Just a reminder, these were all of the songs that were performed on the night;

Somewhat Damaged
You Know What You Are?
Sin
March Of The Pigs
Piggy
The Beginning Of The End
Survivalism
Ruiner
Burn
Gave Up
Help Me I Am In Hell
The Frail
The Good Soldier
Wish
Only
Capital G
Suck

Not once during any of these songs (all SEVENTEEN of them) did I think "man, it really sucks to be here" even with all the equipment failures. I distinctly remember on the night thinking that it was awesome to see all these songs performed live, even the ones I've already seen live previously (BDO '00 and Rod Laver '05) or on Closure/And all that could have been/Beside you in time.

Maybe I was lucky enough to apparently be surrounded by the only dozen or so people that actually enjoyed themself for the majority of the time. I for one am looking forward to the next tour (whenever that is).

Yeah exactly, it was a brilliant show, I didn't care about the tech problems, those sort of things can make a show a little more personal, which is cool.

It's just the way it ended soured the night a little, the more I look back on it tho the less I remember of that "ruiner" yelling out stuff at the end and the more I remember the sick setlist that we got.

Ok, with the rape, Ill tell you exactly what i know, some of the events in question are hearsay, and should be taken as such, but this is the most accuracy i can give. I dont want to propogate bullshit and everything gets further from the truth every time its passed along, so dont take this as solid evidence by any stretch, but this is my version of what transpired:

I distinctly remember thinking during Burn that I was very glad i hadnt dropped a pill because the bass was intense, i struggle to explain the effect it had on my body, being completely sober.
This type of effect was used on several subsequent occasions throughout the show. Somewhere near the end, during Suck I think, a girl got pulled out, she was gone. Not passed out, but close to. I dont know if she had dropped a pill or if she'd just been crushed and dehydrated, but it did seem like the effects of ecstacy to me.
The bouncer tried to get her to drink but she took one sip and then couldnt take anymore. Bouncer dragged her off. I felt concerned for her, but thought she would be taken off to get proper medical attention and got back to enoying the show (until that fuckhead started yelling shit)

Ok, after the show, i went back to hotel with my friends, maybe 10 minutes later went back and met up with spiral ppl we had been in line with and got some food and stuff.
Over our meal, this is what I discerned: According to the people who had stuck around outside til we got back, Someone had walked into the bathroom and witnessed a bouncer raping a girl. One of the guys who was there had called the cops after i assume who ever witnessed this event came out and told them, they were then there when the witness gave a statement to police detailing that infomation. I have no idea whether the girl was the same one i saw getting pulled out, but when i heard this i felt physically sick, knowing that there was a good chance it may have been.
Although i didnt see it myself, several ppl at our gathering confirmed reports that sometime during the show someone had crowdsurfed several times, and on the their third time thru a bouncer had grabbed him and assaulted him (i think they said he stuck his knee into him then threw him face first into the ground but i didnt pay much attention due to the shock ove rthe other thing)

Like i said, none of this is official, and i dont have a first person account so if anyone can clarify this with more authority then do so, but yeah, it seemed like this was more accurate than fabrication unfortunately. Make of it what you ill
Master of the Ninth Arch
ahh yeah I saw that guy... I was in front of Aaron... he crowd surfed past a few times (brown top from memory), from my view the bouncer tried to kick him by I didn't see contact, the guy turned around and asked what the bouncers problem was

Yes! I was standing on the level right behind him! He was pretty funny, but yeah, there were a few times where I thought "dude, relax!"
haha yeah, you woulda have been close to me then

the guitar solo in ruiner blew his mind, he was all over the shop
and everytime he had a drink in his hand LoLLerskates *HUGZ*..dunno how they could sell one to him
teeheehee... it was my first! I had been waiting sooooo long for this. Missed BDO and '05 because of parents and a nasty accident, so the anticipation had been building for a while... However, I was not drunk! Not even a little... Why would you need it? I was high on NIN! I hope I didn't piss anyone off... Yes I was a bit loose, but always careful not to hurt anyone around me.

How good was that guitar solo in Ruiner?!?! My mind was already blown out just hearing the song live...

And starting with Somewhat Damaged - What an intro! Absolutely loved the way Trent began singing almost accapella, then the guitars came crunching in... Bliss. And then every song after that, more bliss...

I really did want Trent to smash his malfunctioning computer/synth/guitar setup after it wasn't working... I thought at the time he was going to play The Great Destroyer after those few quick blips, like others have said, so it seemed a logical move to me... hehe. Now, after the other Melbourne gigs, i'm kinda sad I didn't get to hear Me, I'm Not.

Still... This show ROCKED! Even if the venue and the few losers didn't... As for the heckler, he sorta got what he deserved... I overheard a guy out the front saying, "My mate gave that dickhead a good hiding"... I asked who was his mate, he introduced me, so I thanked him and shook his hand... I don't like violence, but there were a lot of angry/sad/embarssed NIN fans that were fucked over by that heckler's actions...

Pro's vs Con's - THIS GIG STILL KICKED MY ASS!

A BIG THANKYOU to Trent, Jeordie, Aaron, Alessandro, and Josh... COME BACK AGAIN SOON!

and if you're one of those (many) whining at Trent... you CLEARLY just got your asses kicked a lot harder than you can remember!

It's quite amusing to watch people, especially supposed 'fans', try to tell rock stars how to act...

Trent's behaviour was nothing short of disgraceful. He needs to be a hell of a lot more professional than that. Trent, you are a whinging prick!

Watching him crack it was like watching a little child throwing a dummy spit. Trent, you are a geniune tosser and i for one will not be spending 1 single cent more on any of your material! Perhaps TR needs to get back on the gear so he harden's the hell up again.

Something i forgot to say earlier: great to hear the "extended" version of only again. Doesn't look like a recording of 2006/06/02 will ever show up.

I wanted to say to Cam's friend (airport cam not nympholet) you are a fucktard - digging your elbows into someones back, kneeing them and trying to pull them off the rail is moronic and no way to behave. *elbow head*

Sorry to NY Jason who thought I was having some kind of fit trying to get this guy off me! Sorry to cam if this idiot isn't your friend but I saw him come up and talk to you after the show...
Bricklayer
Hahaha that masking tape incident was great, it kept me amused for a while anyway. It was funny how the security came up and thought someone was actually getting bound up

Hey- everyone who attended this show...Wanna read the lamest review ever from possibly Australia's biggest fucktard?

"Do you think that because I'm up hear that I can't hear you?" Trent snapped at the audience. There was total silence. No one dared breathe"

pfft!

I guess now that Trent's stopped taking drugs he sits backstage and drinks apple juice while listening to Mozart before a concert instead of snorting lines and fucking women (at the same time), so he's got nothing better to do than be punctual.
ROFLMAO has that retard actually gone to a NIN show/watched a boot before?!?!?!!
Master of Achievement
Mind you, this guy also stated on another forum that the AIR sticker on TR's laptop during 'Me i'm Not' was actually a piece of black tape, strategically placed to hide the Apple logo! Even after being corrected, he's STILL arguing the fact!
Ignorant cocksucker wrote:In that picture of Trent with the keyboard/laptop combo... does he honestly think that by putting a bit of black gaffa tape over the Apple logo that we won't notice it's an iBook?
Then there's these gems:

The amazing thing is, this guy is actually much more annoying in real life.

Believe it, or not...

My favourite bit is "The place was not as overly crowded as I thought it might have been. Which was great because I hate it when the venue owners get greedy and deliberately over-sell shows. We were even able to get a great spot on the stairs looking directly down on the stage."

Yeah, 'cause a venue so packed that people were sitting on the stairs wouldn't be oversold right?

Yeah, I was surprised they let people do that, you'd think it would violate the fire code or something.

Someone was alledgedly raped in the bathroom, how concerned do you think they about a fire?
Prince Adept
not to mention the extreme heat and lack of ventilation in the venue, the whole place is a trap really.

It's taken me a while to post (cause im quite lazy)

All in all I thought it was a pretty freakin awesome setlist.
Shame about the abrupt ending.

Props to thirteen for screaming along with us during the gig!
