Awesome set (Good Soldier kicked ass!)... Me, I'm Not was just TR & AC... Good sound for a bad sounding venue... TR got the shits w/ the lighting guy at the start of La Mer as he couldn't see... His biggest comment to the crowd (between Suck & Dead Souls) was: "We tricked you & got back sooner than you thought we would... we have a new album which many of you have stolen... this song is not on it... it's not by us, it's by one of my favourite bands"... Then when a roadie dropped his keyboard bringing it out for Hurt, TR said "Ever have one of those days...?"

Can't wait for the next 2 shows!!

Further to my last post:

As mentioned in Brisbane, Hyperpower! was live but truncated. La Mer was also a bit of a variation. Hurt was one of the best live versions I have heard. The set was still quite heavy on the TDS era & I hope some more TF era songs get an airing at the next 2 shows.

Absolutely no complaints though! Five (count 'em FIVE!) YZ songs!!

I think the new tunes will gel better after a couple of airings & settle in...
I was really hoping for The Good Soldier & loved it.
I was surprised they got two more new songs rehearsed already.

Actually it was reznor who knocked it over. He got the shits with the mic (it looked like the mic he was tussling with) and just pushed it over.

I was pretty disappointed. Compared to their last two tours, where they played so tightly (for want of a better word), a lot of it was kinda all over the place here- and not in a good way. I was kind of shocked that, after pretty much 3 years straight touring, they actually seem to have regressed.

I did, however, manage to snag two picks (one from aaron during the show, and then one from the roadies at the end).

I like Year Zero, but for me, aside from hyperpower, this is the beginning and survivalism at the beginning, the YZ songs that were played just didn't really fit, and kind of broke up the flow of the set. Though not in the way that throwing in shit like "something I could never have" and "hurt" and what not do. They just kind of sounded out of place to me.

That was a KICKASS show! My wife had a good first time at a NIN concert too. There were a couple pricks that had to be ejected but for the most part the crowd was really good too. I will post a more in depth post tomorrow when I have a rested mind and body. It's time for a couple cones and some serious sleep.

p.s. I got a green pick from the stage that was visibly very used. Which member uses green picks?

I was honestly disappointed with the crowd. i thought they were LAME and that was a bit of a downer. The last shows (in '05) were a little better than this but i put that down to an average crowd and plenty of lighting fuck ups. and trent was MASSIVELY pissed with his crew. they looked like they didnt know what the fuck they were doing. tr summed it up perfectly "ever have one of those days..." it was just that. one of those days.
i will also bet my left testicle that the next 2 shows will blow this one out of the water because as far as nin shows go, this was about a 7/10.
however, having had my litle whinge, i still had a fucking amazing time. me, im not was unreal (not much happening on stage but sounds very good live) as was the good soldier. suck was tits. dead souls was wicked. MSD was 1000 fists to my ears and eyes and ive never ever yelled as much and as loud as i did during heresy.

in so much pain, my ears are ringing, and im so so tired. i swear i was 20, not 50 (what the fuck happened to me?).

Onward to the next 2!

2. Coming back so soon after the release of YZ
3. Doing one of the best live shows in this country for years.

Pity about the venue accoustics - good but not great.

loved DEAD SOULS, HURT, and the Good soldier.

What a small fucking world! My wife was a little unhappy with me because I was threatening to "knock him the fuck out" but I think the prick had it coming. Next time we'll meet under nicer circumstances. It still spins me out that we talked a few times and I was never the wiser.


Back on topic: It was really cool how security was liberal with the water and seemed to be really professional.

yes. this one bloke thought it would be funny to crowd surf for the SIXTH FUCKING TIME IN 45 MIN (he kept coming from nowhere. i swear to god. over the barrier and then all of sudden he is next to me again 5 min later) and kick me in the mouth after i refused to help him up. so i punched him in the spine about 5 or 6 times as hard as i fucking could and then ripped his shirt. fuck him.

Wow that was awesome!!!
I agree that it didn't seem as tight or polished as their shows in 05, and that there did seem to be an unusually high proportion of jerks in the crowd, but I think the amazing set list more than made up for it. So many of my favourite songs in there!
As for what the new songs sound like:
Hyperpower! begins with a backing track chanting "left right left right" as the lights go down, and then the band come out one by one and crank it rather quickly.
Me I'm Not is just Alessandro and Trent playing on some keyboards and computers, but it's a really awesome trance kinda song live. I liked it a lot.
The Good Soldier is killer live, especially the end bit. Much heavier than the album version.
Oh and Aaron stage dived right on top of me. So cool!

I thought it was an excellent show. I had a great time. Hearing Mr Self Destruct was key! i saw fear factory at the Big Top last year, and there was more bass in the piped music after the set than i heard in the entire gig!

thus i was expecting crappy sound tonight followed by awesome sound tomorrow and friday after Trent had posthumously kicked a few asses, but i was pleasantly surprised.

i'm still deciding if it was the best NIN gig i've enjoyed...

bring on tomorrow night, friday night, and those melbourne shows!!!!

oh, and when he said "ever have one of those days?" i was well and truly in synch with him, having just suffered through EVERYTHING at work breaking down, my car getting bogged so i couldn't drive home in time to arrive early enough for... (was there a soundcheck? did i miss anything killer?) and having to take TWO cabs to get home from work in order to make it to said show (go figure)

this gig more than made up for all of that.
i'd write a proper review but i'm still buzzing too much; maybe tomorrow

Show was incredible. Was first one with my mate Liam on the left barrier. Got some video of Heresy, Closer, No You Dont, Dead Souls, Wish, Mr. Self Destruct, La Mer, Good Solider, and Me Im Not. Then me and Liam were part of the group that caught the mic during Suck. When I get a chance I will work on uploading all the videos I took.

There was no soundcheck or anything for that matter, Serena Maneesh did stop their vehicle at the gate and signed an autograph or two and took a couple pictures but that was about the only thing that happened.

Amazing. Was there last night. My first concert, by any band :)

I actually reckon the crowd was pretty nice. I got up by the barrier on the right side and caught Aaron North :) Some of the guys on stage also kept chucking their water bottles at us after having one sip, I got a bit wet but never caught it.

Music was fantastic. Hyperpower! was a great choice to start with. It sounds so good live! Just a bit of confusion when Me, I'm Not started playing and I had no clue what was going on. Everyone around me was like 'what is he doing... ?' Took us a while to realise it was a laptop and a keyboard.

From where I was standing it was hard to make out what he was saying. I heard the word shit a few times, that's about it. He didn't talk much which was surprising, I thought he would really talk to the audience (and what happened to his accent... ?), but it's all good. Serena-Maneesh was wierd, drummer was good, rest of the band was pretty lame, and were blown away by NiN anyway.

I was also really surprised when they started singing songs like TGS and MIN and other YZ tracks. I was convinced they wouldn't because it's really hard to get it sounding so 'digital' on stage. Guess they found a way :)

Hurt was fantastic - wow, best version ever - and the first live version I've heard where, like the original song, after 'I would keep myself', 'I would find a way' is rendered inaudible under the screeching noises of the guitar. Just how it was meant to sound. Cool.

Sang so loud. There were guys in the security strip with water and stuff for us to drink. My throat is still hurting. I think I was dancing with a group of really nice people, since it doesn't seem the whole crowd was like that.

TGS is fuckin fantastic live. Wow.

And you could spot me because I was the ONLY girl wearing a pink shirt ~^_^~

Yeah, I thought the crowd was good too - I got there towards the end of Sareena Maneesh, and was able to get up really close to the front without too much shoving in the crowd. Everyone seemed to know the lyrics as well, which was good :)

What I did find disappointing about the crowd was the lack of home-made AIR gear there - I had my shirt with my exhibit24 number and a big AIR logo, but all I could see people wearing were past tour/logo shirts. Ahh well.

Excellent show, nonetheless - Me, I'm Not was great, but Aaron's guitar was turned way up which ruined it a bit live - TGS was brilliant though.

Mr. Self Destruct kicked ass, was great. Good Soldier too, good stuff.

Had my first ever taste of a moshpit, and confirmed what I'd suspected - not a fan. Was fairly near the front for Hyperpower!, Beginning Of The End and half of Survivalism, then my friend and I just quit and watched from the back. Better visibility anyway.

Serena Maneesh were quite good, which was a bit of a surprise. Not used to good opening bands. Very into noise. Drumming was the best bit; singer was way too fond of saliva.

Aaron was mental, as always. Music sounded great. Highlight was probably Hurt, that was a fucking terrific rendition of it. Milked it for all it was worth. Plus one hell of a sing-a-long.

Hurt did really well. But some people barged by us screaming like idiots. As though it was a 'fucking mosh!' type of song. And then there was a girl beside me complaining really loudly that she was probably going to have a blister tomorrow.

But I fucking love hearing Wish live, Mr Self Destruct was awesome and it was a pleasant surprise how many 0000 songs were played.

excellent night. The guy booing Serena Maneesh was a fucking faggot. i think his shirt said something like "there is no patch for stupid people" I guess he was just an example of that. I saw him his fear i think it was? in the back of the head. and that annoying little crowdsurfer was shitting me. Sure its cool. but not after teh 10th time.

By the third song my step brother had lost his phone. and a bit after that had his glasses broken. expensive night for him. Heresy, Mr Self Destruct and The good soldier were all excellent. I got trents water bottle in either the hand that feeds or HLAH, cant remember which. Overall a good night

Great show, loved the setlist! Had a good view from the balcony (yeah, I'm not 20 anymore). Mr Self Destruct and Good Soldier were the highlights for me. Hurt was good but I seriously don't think they need to play it every single time any more.

great show. spent most of it smashed into some random dude in front of me and just behind Ryan and Sickamongthepure. (guys, next time go for Aarons side of the barrier ok? I had to watch Jeordie point out girls in the crowd for one of the minions to give passes to during Hurt)

The pit was kinda lame but at least it made it easier to send SMS's to schteph.

At first I was thinking "eh this is going to be like Brisbane but then they launched into Me Im Not and WOOOAAAAAAH.

Mr Self Destruct was fucking great too, and it was awesome to FINALLY hear Only.

Merch: shirts $40/45, hoodies $75, caps $30, tour book $30, stickers and buttons $5

Good venue too, it was nice and airy and didn't get too hot.

Was my first NIN gig and my first time at a concert in Oz, didnt bring any ID tho so was pretty pissed off not bein able to drink...........being Irish and all!!! At home if u look old enough u just get served!!!

I loved the way it was a small intimate venue!!!

I was down the front on Jeordie's side with Ryan., Mya and naut. EDIT : AND HUGHMAN!!! Was and awesome show, aside from the drunk fuck trying to feel up Mya.

Made eye contact with Trent during Closer... baby's due in nine months :b

Caught Jeordies mic at the end (eww cooties) and decided not to make a cock of myself by screaming "HEAD LIKE A HOLE" into it, but then I figured you only live once and gave a bit of a "woo!". I think it was turned off by this point though, I'll have to wait for the bootleg to see!

Spiral was a bit of a mess, mainly becuase the line was moved from outside to inside to outside the venue, everyone just made a run for it. The ticket collection was just a big mob of people around 2 guys, and was left a bit late, IMO. But either way most of the members were in the first few rows.

just wanted to add my little piece in.

This was my 5th Nails show. it was my least favorite out of all the ones i've seen. The band played with energy but i feel that there was some spirit or conviction or just that little spark that makes them so special that was missing tonight. Trent was having 'one of those days' so maybe that accounts for it. Despite that, there were many cool moments. It was definitely the best rendition of Hurt I've seen them do, and the new tracks off Year Zero were a highlight.

When Trent tepidly pushed his keyboard over a girl near me said "(gasp!) He just pushed his keyboard over! Oh my God! thats so cool!!!" This made me laff because in the Self Destruct era he would have smashed 3 keyboards good and proper by that stage of the show by jumping on them, throwing them in the air or axing them with a guitar. ... ahhh if only she knew.

I reckon the next shows will kick more arse because Trent will be wanting to put the problems of this first one into perspective by showing us what he and his merry men can really do.

Was my 5th time and I must agree- Although i did immensley enjoy the show (its my favourite band how could i not) was the worst Ive probably been to, nothing compared to last tour anyway..definitely lacking *something* to be honest, they all just seemed a bit bored

I managed to get in with my over 18 ticket (even though I'm under)... they didn't even check. I happened to be right next to the guys who booed Serena Maneesh at the beginning... The crowd was pretty lame, especially for a NIN show, but I had to move back anyway, 'cause my fishnets were getting ripped :( Trying to get into the buses to central was worse than the actual concert... and why were the shirts this time so crap??

The setlist sounded really poppy, nothing really heavy... but Only was awesome. And somehow I actually managed to see TR a couple of times!

All up it was a great show. Some fuckheads in the crowd that needed to be removed but that's the way it is. I really really liked Serena-Maneesh and thought the singer really gave it his all.

I met Ryan. by pure and total chance and he and his girl seemed to be very nice people. It was a struggle to maintain my place in front of Jeordie and my ribs paid a dear price. Not bad though since we got there at 4:30p.m. Come to think of it, I may have met naut as well. From what you said, you were behind Ryan.? My wife was getting faint and bought a bottle of water from a girl behind her for $20. I guess that was the price of keeping her place in front.

The non existent light show was a disappointment and "Me, I'm Not" needs some ironing out I think. Other than that, it was a great mix of songs. A couple I could have done without and a couple I wanted that didn't happen. Of course, that's always the case.

The Spiral was absolute chaos and very disorganized. One of the two guys giving out tickets was passing them out to Americans first. Why, I don't know. Luckily, I had my USA passport for my photo ID. The lines shifted here there and everywhere but we managed to be in the first couple dozen of people let in. I had good luck for a change.

I could have sworn somebody told me that each member of NIN has a different colored pick. If so, who uses green ones? I got one at the end of the show and I am curious as to which member used it.

Yeah, so that was my first NIN show...and If any of you happened to notice a guy passing out and being lifted out during The Good Soldier on Jeordie's side..that was me. I was in a black (suprise there) With teeth tour shirt and if any of you saw those two guys playing that coin game out the front under the luna park mouth, I was the one not playing...(and I made that up by the way )

But what I really want to know, some guy out the front told me Trent and / or Jeordie pointed at me while I was being lifted out, and my friends told me the same afterwards...is this true or am I being fucked with?

P.s...thanks to the very tall guy who helped my mate out when he was coming to see me...if your reading this, we're all thankful

I thought the venue was pretty good. I thought the stage was bigger than what it was and what was the go with how the barrier came out into the crowd? I guess it was so it was easier for security to pull people out. I thought it may have been for if trent came down to sing piggy but ohwell. Excellent concert.

Well,that was a blast.
Noisy,cut down production,loose feeling in parts but a great amount of energy coming from the band,Trent and Aarron especially.
I loved robin as a performer but North gives it just as much and matches the new trimmed down,focused Trent.
Survivilism an March of the Pigs,Gave up,Burn,Wish and Mr Self Destruct...
They work so well in this format..
As the actual YZ tour should be a production Extravaganza,this was a cool way to see the band,
if you didnt rate it you must be dead deaf and stupid.
I would say it kicked the Teeth and Fragile tour shows sydney has seen.
Ill see if friday beat it out.

did anyone go to the aftershow?
We got Passes but couldnt make it,be interested if any girls got eaten by Twiggins. And of course if Trent showed..

They came on 9pm and finished at 10:30pm. I think he finished a bit early, maybe cause he was not feeling himself.

I am already going to deaf after so many years of loud concerts, comes with being old I guess. If you stay towards the back of the room, of even in the middle you will be less likely to receive that kind of ringing that comes from being too close to the amps.

It isn't TOO loud, but I had mild ringing after the Thursday show. I'm taking my trusty Hearos to tonight's gig - they're about $20-30 at music stores and quieten the music without distorting it at all. I've even seen 'em at chemists etc.

There were no stickers/air flags/anything in the girl's toilets about 30 mins before doors opened (6:30ish). Looked everywhere, was hoping to find a USB or similar ~^_^~

I saw one guy in the line in front of me with a white blouse shirt and a pink AIR logo sprayed on the back. Was upset I didn't see more.

ditto, ditto. Definitely the best rendition of "hurt" that i've seen live personally. Really felt it. Needed to be a different song to follow it than "the hand that feeds" though.
Wasn't so keen about "Me, I'm not" (although on the album i absolutely love the song), i think that has some work to go before being done live well. Maybe more distortion and delay effects on the vocals or something are needed. But "The Good Soldier" absolutely fucking did it for me.
"Heresy" was another highlight. And i could not believe they were playing "Mr Self Destruct"... that just went off!! So awesome.
And yeah, after missing out on "Only" last Australian tour and it being one of my favourites of aWitha Teetha, that was sweet.

Will write up more when i have some time and match what i've already written with the set list.

PS: Something funny... i saw a guy kicked out by security before Serena-Maneesh even started... hilarious! He was struggling heaps against the security too... that was upstairs and he was kicked out the door just outside on the balcony/smoking section.

The snob yokels imposed a curfew at the venue which kicks everyone out at 11pm. Add to that a useless bunch of events managers and confused crew and you can see how everything would have built up for him - I felt the same way by the end of the night. Hopefully, things will be sorted soon.

Already sent Ryan a PM about this, but I (and I'm sure some others out there) have my hands on the "unheard" fourth radio gig that Peter and El Rezzo did together, ie. the Joy Division lovefest.

They played four songs:
* Dead Souls
* Twenty-Four Hours
* Warsaw
* Atmosphere

For the most part, NIN does all the backing tunes and Peter sings everything, with Trant chiming in here or there. They're really, really friggin' amazing covers, though. I hope he pops out a Year Zero sequel, a best-of and gets out of his contract so he could do something like, release all four radio shows on an EP or a fan-made Year Zero remix EP or something.

ANYWAY! POINT IS!

If anyone out there wants the Joy Division Love Fest, ie. radio show 4, PM me and we can talk the talk, walk the walk, if you smell what I'm cookin'.

Great video of Me, I'm Not, but who is that 11-year-old girl singing in the background? And I use the term 'singing' quite loosely.

Every time she says "Heeeeeeey!" I cringe and cringe and cringe.

"Heeeeeeeeey you guys, can we stop by the mall?"

EDIT: I also just looked through the photos on triple j...I don't think Trent's ever looked quite so wholly unattractive, unless of course you count the corn starch and bicycle shorts days.
