i just got home from lowlands and i'm too tired to remember much but it was a great ,yet very different performance.
Unlike previous performances there was no lcd-screen whatsoever and they played only for about an hour.
They opened with "me i'm not" which is a first I guess and propably due to the lack of proper lightning. It was followed by the great destroyer and then they faded directly into ~1-2 minutes of "Happiness in Slavery"!! It sounded great and totally made up for the shortness and lack of lcd-screen.
"head like a hole" and "hurt" were not played, they closed with "gave-up".
I'm a bit sad that they had to play in the afternoon and didn't get to play on the mainstage, unlike tool who did a great job as the sunday main event.
i have to get some sleep now...

The setlist was the most disappointing setlist ever! no closer, no head like a hole, no hurt, no SICNH, no gave up, no last, nothing! Lack of cool lighting, and the really really short setlist disappointed me.
The Happiness in slavery breakdown in The Great destroyer ruled! and made up for the rest of the setlist sucking
The last song was not Gave Up, the last song was Wish.
Trent was very quiet even for his standards (glad to be here+3x thank you)

A friend of mine went, it seems they played "The Day The World Went Away" and "Survivalism" among others and that it was incredibly short, just an hour. I'll try to get more info!

Way to short set list. (I think they were well under the hour, since them seemed to start late. Although I wasn't wearing a watch so I'm not entirely sure.)
Compared to the last NIN show I saw (which was in 2005 in Nijmegen) this preformence was kinda bleak. Part of this was definitely the lame ass frigid crowed at lowlands this year. It was pretty much impossible to get into action.
I did have a nice viwepoint though right at the central barrier just a couple of meters from the front barrier. Trent did through (one of) his tamborine(s) into crowed, which was caught by some luck kids in the front row.

Yeah the setlist was a bit disappointing because of the lack of some standard live track (closer, Hurt etc). But on the other hand they played Dead Souls and my favorite Nin-track, TDTWWA. Besides classics like Closer have already been played live a lot.
I don't know is they did play under the hour (I wasn't wearing a watch either), but maybe it seemed short because the Krafwerkish start didn't really integrated with the rest of the show. At least in my opinion.
Also the light show was disappointing for Nin standards. And the daylight wasn't helping either. (I like my Nin shows in a dark environment.)
But all the criticism aside, I really enjoyed the show! I loved the Happiness In Slavery breakdown. At the start I wasn't really in front (I stood among people discussing what album Closer was on :S), but at the start of March of the Pigs I rushed to the front and I stayed there screaming lyrics and jumping around.

some including 4 more songs which would've never fit the alotted time slot
the one performed had Head Like a Hole crossed out and changed to Wish
some others did include a version with Sin and Hurt and some with The Frail/The Wretched and Hurt
set was wierd though; stunning opening which in my opinion would have done very well to carry on through the whole of the set; pure mental electro noise but the changeover took too long and momentum was kinda lost
trent wasn't happy with the performance at pukkelpop and the crowd reactions there so he tried to mix things up for this festival
trent also wans't happy with the stage size which wouldn't accomodate the lightshow and screen thing
still nin soldiered on; the beginning was loud and stunning and amazing, the set was wierd and off balance, but with Dead Souls and Wish, plus a brilliant Reptile I guess there's no complaining really
band was tight, sound was splendid, lights weren't as awesome as the big light rig, but really really pretty from where I was standing (dead center)

i did enjoy the show, the lightning wasn't that great but overall i liked the show. trent came very close to us during piggy.
the setlist was able to see on stage on the left. yay for 10x optical zoom.

It was daylight, it was in a tent, we couldn't bring any production - it would have looked stupid anyway and we were only allowed to play an hour.
I thought the setlist kicked ass and it did what it was meant to do - it showed our range and it confused people. It didn't try to make that performance something it wasn't and it was fun to play.

this is for my daughter and all the women on the other side being looked down upon by mr white who was obviously not in his best mood, guess he did not like the stage crew that much ...

The setlist was confusing mostly for non-nin fans, they didnt know what to make of it (a lot of people left after The Great Destroyer)
I didn't like the setlist because it had none of my personal favorites, but since you played all of them at the Paradiso shows in Amsterdam, thats allright
Still a great performance ofcourse, loved every second of it, I came to that festival just for NIN, and even it was worth every euro.

I aprreciate the band's effort to make "something" of this show. There were no good conditions: afternoon spot, lighting that reminded me of the '80s, and a tent you usually find at beer und wurstenfestivals.
Therefore, I think the "alternative" setlist was a great attempt to do something special for the fans who were there, rather than playing a 60 minute crowdpleaser setlist.

They ended their Pukkelpop performance with the drum kit-less Kraftwerk-style setting, this time they started with it. This kind of confusion always puts people off. But three songs later Jeordie White and Aaron North tear their guitars open and Josh Freese takes his place behind the drums. From then on the gears keeps changing up with the well-known distorted samples, an angry Reznor and immensely loud electronics. Clear sound, a ridiculous fresh voice. With songs like The Begining of the End and Burn, fans can stare themselves blind on the smoke and scarce light effects.
MIN
We get that Reznor is clean after all those years, but does that mean he has to act like an all american rock icon? The "yeah"s and muscle moves may be kept for Fred Durst. And when Reznor starts to sing emotionally, he suddenly seems the emo-gotfather. That can't be the intention. Also the limited stage production disappointing.
CONCLUSION
Nine Inch Nails can add some more concrete in their foundations next time, but the nails scratched enough. In a pack of butter that is, while it should have been steel.

I still think NIN would have been a better closing act in the Alpha then Tool. Not saying that Tool isn't great, but their music is to complicated and drawn out to make 20000+ people go out of their mind. The larger stage and longer time slot would have given NIN much more flexibility in their stage production. With the more powerful sound of a NIN live show, they would have blown the crowd away.
But looking back this was OK too.

I can understand that Trent wasn't happy with the stage size at Lowlands, but you must be joking about Pukkelpop... Trent walked of that stage with a smile like he was the king of the world. That performance was kick ass and the crowd reactions were great. Tool was there, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Kaiser Chiefs but... EVERYBODY was talking about how NIN's performance was the best of Pukkelpop 2007.

Be glad that you have seen the band on a festival instead of bitching about a setlist or what you would like 2 c.
It is the choice of the band 2 perform those songs.
The performance of Pukkelpop was amazing and the band played at full of energy so i dont c why TR + band wasn't happy with the crowd reaction or performance.

I had never seen NIN with a screen before, so I was siked for that. Awaiting the concert on my own, since all my friends were somewhere else or outside the tent, I was completely blown away with the start. Is this what we're supposed to expect when Year Zero pt.2 comes out and only songs from those albums would be played? I would defenitely not mind:) The version of March of the Pigs was amazing and different than with other concerts I had seen, also Dead Souls was a nice surprise.

It's what makes NIN one of my favourite bands, Reznor evolves and is not afraid of change, it is what I appreciate the most in a band.

The sound is crap, you can barely hear the HIS part. There's no low tones in the recording so you dont hear it at all.

i would kill to hear a decent mp3 of the TGD breakdown with HIS.
The songs weren't picked by the band but the DJ that was playing before NIN was asked especially for that slot by the organisation and he 'knows' the band via the tourmanager I believeroel wrote:Does anyone know if the songs played before the performance were picked by the band?
