Just got back from the gig. It was phenomenal, just as good as the last show in birmingham. Trent was also quite talkative cracking jokes about fallout boy etc. Got one of aarons plectrums too. Only odd thing was no hurt encore after HLAH. Cant remember ful setlist but some highlights were reptile, no you dont, wish, last and eraser.
Master Traveler
Trent joked about Aaron having terrible bum grapes.
The venue was a bit shite like a bingo hall, and Trent said that he had been angry the whole way through the show as he could not hear anything and they couldn't use their screens among other things.
I particularly enjoyed TDTWWA.
Master Traveler
Totally loved it and i too thought was cool trent spoke a bit more. He apologized for being sick the first time which was very noble.

highlights for me were ruiner, wish, we're in this together...actually all of them rocked.

Feel gutted for them that they couldnt do the light show and stuff. I guess thats why perhaps a bit less YZ stuff than at other gigs.

Anyone else drenched with sweat? <- hmm lovely

Any one know what the banter about smashing pumpkins and fall out boy was? I know it was festival related but cant see anything in those threads other than pumkins front man trying to take the piss with "miracles do happen" which got him booed :)
Master Traveler
I thought that the gig was fantastic. It was so hot in there, I was drenched and loving it! The With Teeth tour left me a bit cold, but last night took me back to how I felt when I saw NIN at wolves on the Self-Destruct tour. I liked the stripped down set, plus I'm guessing the whole light show aspect will be in play when the Wolves gig happens tomorrow.
Can't wait!
Master ad Vitam
academy is a horrible venue for something like that.
it wasnt so bad this time, but the temperature was ratcheted up somewhat in there, it was like a bakery.

All in all great gig, at least it was on par with the last birmingham performance. Ruiner was the highlight for me, also treat cracking jokes and what-not was also quite cool

NO hurt! many people were standing around after head like a hole, a bit miffed that the venue lights had come on.

Also on all the NIN tickets it said curfew 10.30pm but nin played at least till ten to eleven. either way i was happy with more of the songs.

sorry again to the guy that endured having my hair flicked in his face during eraser! but i hope he enjoyed his first NIN gig.

oh yeah aaron stage dived as well!
Bricklayer
It was an amazing gig considering the technical setbacks and immense heat! All was going well for me until i received 2 elbows in the gut and 1 in the throat within seconds of each other, so I retired to the back to watch the second half of the set!

Highlights for me include Ruiner, TDTWWA, The Good Soldier and Trent's banter ;)

I cannot remember the full set listing unfortunately :(

I've never posted in a thread for an event I haven't attended before, but what?
Master Traveler
hahah i know i meant to say wish but from the fixed album. Doh. ill edit
Bricklayer
Awsome gig, shite venue, but great crowd and great setlist. Trent talked for the longest I've heard him - first of saying they has played a load of shitty festivals, so good to be back, etc. Then said they were gonna play all the songs ever written by anyone, ever. Someone shouted out Fall Out Boy, and Trent said, "Not Fall Out Boy... we couldn't do them justice!".
I think that set the tone, and with the stage being so low, and the venue so small, it was totally intimate - had a real 'together' feel.

Half way through, Trent asked us to be quite for a few seconds, then said "that means shut the fuck up". As has already been posted, he said he couldn't hear anything he was singing at all, and was pissed off he couldn't get the screens at the venue. Then, on with part 2!

Through the sweat and the crushed ribs (bloody hell it was like an oven in the place) I have a fuzzy recollection of the set list, it was someting like this:

Hyperpower!
The Beginning Of The End
Sin
March of the Pigs
Burn
Last
The Frail
The Wretched
Survivalism
Closer
Help Me I Am In Hell
Eraser
Reptile
Piggy
No, You Don’t
The Day The World Went Away
The Good Soldier
Dead Souls
Suck
Ruiner
Hand That Feeds
Head Like A Hole

Not sure if they played Gave Up, I'm sure someone will have a better memory than me!

deffo. Plus wish, plus we're in this together now

I'm sure firstandlasts set list plus Gave up and Wish is what was played. We're In This Together definitely wasn't. Great gig, i look forward to Wolverhampton...

that's not odd
and the birmingham academy is a great venue. stop being pussies

it was a great show - for the first half hour, i was a bit disappointed, because it seemed like they were going to do a really bog standard setlist of hits. but then they cranked out the No, You Don't and Dead Souls and the like, and it was awesome times.

the only slight downer from my persepective was that there'd always be a giant security guard somewhat in front of me, partially obstructing my view. so not my best nin show, but definitely an exemplary performance, despite technical difficulties.

also, ladytron defied the laws of science and did not suck.

Im pretty sure they played we're in this together now and near the end because i grabbed the wife and got her dancing with me cos its one of our favourite songs. hmmm

I was pretty nailed though from jumping :)

Great gig. There were lots of techincal issues, however, like Trent's in-ear monitor and Aaron's guitar (he was off stage for first half of Burn and Trent signaled for Aaron's tech to turn off his guitar during Piggy because the sound was so off). But the best tech glitch was when that instument Trent uses at the end of Piggy (shit, if I know what it's called) didn't work. Trent just started hitting it with the mic stand and finally threw it across stage towards Josh.

It was hot as balls, as most people left drenching wet (including me). Apart from several crowd surfers, I was really surprised how many people asked to be pulled out. Even more surprising was that many of these were big dudes. Meh.

In Wolverhampton now, and looking forward to today show. Hopefully, this venue will accommodate the YZ screens.

BTW: orestes: I love you for posting that Duran Duran pic.
Bricklayer
now THAT was a hell of a setlist!!!
All my fav songs there.
Just Hurt missing..
Grand Pontiff
I dunno, I was hoping too much for Me, I'm Not or The Great Destroyer ... ah well! Other than that, a brilliant set list! (although I'll be gutted if they get played at Wolverhampton, I had to give up my ticket).

I shit on the venue for not allowing a spanking light show but the venue was fantastic for sound!!!!!

Downside of gig, being joined temporarily by a man wreaking off piss. I overheard him after the gig telling someone "I live on the streets" that explains that, although doesn't explain how he managed to wander into a NIN show...

icklekitty, I recognised you but decided against actually saying to someone who's never met me before "are you icklekitty?". I'm too British.

did anyone notice they started head like a hole twice?

firstly the synth drum chorus kicked in then just stopped.

and then it started for real, weird but it happened.
Grand Pontiff
This was a truely awesome gig- equally as good as the last Brum show if not better as his voice was in top notch form.

Drowning in my own sweat wasnt so nice but what ya gonna do huh!!.
I would pick the Academy over arenas and a lot of other clubs- its totally brilliant for NIN cause no matter where you are you are real close to the band- you lot will be whining about Wolverhampton tonight if you didnt like the academy!! :)
I was front centre balcony with a kick ass view of the whole stage.

Ladytron's set was great- all ye olde faves including 'International Dateline' which is probably my fave and they finished with 'Destroy Everything'.

NIN came out to Hyperpower which is such a cool way to start and went straight into the beginning of the end. They played Survivalism and The Good Soldier but I think we may have been robbed of a lot of the new tracks as Trent said they couldnt play a lot of songs as they couldnt have the light show. I guess thats the price we pay for seeing them in such a small venue- as I am off to Wolves and we will get the lights there I really didnt mind.

He did talk a lot which was great. He said that the festivals had sucked and that it was nice to be back among people who walked upright! He also said that we should make the most of the fact that NIN came back and we all came back- he said they would play every song they had ever written and every song every other band had ever written and then he said 'no we are not playing fall out boy'. Half way through the set he appologised for the lack of lights and said the venue was fucking stupid. He said he couldnt hear himself and because of that and the lights was feeling very insecure on stage. We all cheered and stuff- hopefully he could tell from that response that there was no need to worry.

They did start HLAH twice and the little thumb piano wasnt working so he did just bash it with the mike and then lob it over the drum kit- he also destroyed the table it was standing on by throwing it on the floor and jumping up and down on it!! He gestured a lot that the sound for Alessandro wasnt high enough and he had to get the mike sound for everyone made higher at some point during the show.
Trent also missed the first part of a verse of one of the songs and then picked it back up again- he looked over at Jeordie so dont know if it was the base that was off or if he was just looking over to get back in time with the music.

Despite all that the set was wicked. My high lights were Eraser, Reptile, Sin (one of my faves :)), TDTWWA, Dead Souls, Gave up, Last and Closer although the set was good enough for me to have a hard time picking out fave bits.
I'm not surprisd they didnt play Hurt if he couldn hear himself on the stage and I think he was too pissed off to sing it too.
They didnt play We're in this together.

Was a nice atmosphere in the line all day too, good conversation was had although there were some mobile phone vids that were totally out of order-you know who you are ;) Nice to meet everyone who I did- you guys rock my socks.

All in all this was an awesome gig and I cant bloody wait for tonight!!!

Hello, first post here.

I haven't got the tracks in the right order, but so far that's what my friends and I reckon the setlist is for the Birmingham show:

Head Like A Hole
Terrible Lie
Sin
Piggy
Burn
Closer
Ruiner
Reptile
Eraser
March Of The Pigs
Pinion
Wish
Last
Help Me I’m In Hell
Gave Up
Suck
Dead Souls
Somewhat Damaged
The Day The World Went Away
The Frail
The Wretched
Just Like You Imagined
Even Deeper
No, You Don't
Into The Void
Please
The Big Come Down
The Hand That Feeds
HYPERPOWER!
The Beginning of the End
Survivalism
The Good Soldier
Vessel

Feel free to reorganise these in the right order and remove or add any. Also my sister insists they played Only but we told her they didn't... Who's right?
Master Traveler
RedDeath: How on earth you take those photos without a tripod?

V good :)
Grand Pontiff
They didnt play Only, or Vessel or the big come down, or even deeper.

How the hell did you make this set list dude?!! there are loads on your list that were not played!
Master of the Ninth Arch
hey Red Death, who's wearing the hat? Jeordie?

Thank-you! It's just about setting the cameras ISO to the max it will go, a reasonably quick shutter speed (had mine at around 60) and the aperture to it's highest it will allow you (I think!) oh and shooting on continuous. Trust me, out of the 300 shots I took, only about 35 came out like these. It's very hit and miss!

Oh yeah, Jeordie and his hat! When he appeared on stage I didn't realise it was him. Guess someones feeling a bit Bob Dyan.

Neon, you may notice my post said "[we] reckon" that's what the band played, not that it was gospel... :) We tried to make it from memory, having travelled from Bristol to Birmingham and back, being knackered but very happy. Me thinks we may have been over enthusiastic when trying to remember the previous night.

So if you have a more accurate setlist feel free to share it. :) Oh, and fyo I'm not a dude, I'm fully female, geez, that's what I get for being a new poster... :D

Firstly newbie, I call everyone dude- so chill out! I am not attacking your femininity ok ;)
Secondly- I travelled all the way up from Penzance for the gig and so was also quite tired- but anyway.
Thirdly I did see that you had put the 'we reckon' in your post and my comment was meant more in jest than anything but maybe I should have put a ' :) ' in there so you got what I meant.

And finally the posts above have covered most of what was played- I was far too busy rocking out to keep track of the order but I'm sure the full list in order is posted somewhere on the spiral if you want to know (although I have not checked to see).

Cant wait for the thread to be put up for the Wolves gig tonight- it fooking rocked my socks!! :D
Knight of the Royal Axe
Well, I did enjoy the show apart from getting crushed at the front and gasping for air - damn it was hot in there.

The two shows together and the different setlists made a great pair and of course the different setlists. Last was awesome (as always) Reptile, The Frail - Wretched, Eraser, etc.

Great show but nothing in comparison with Wolverhampton which was fucking amazing.

TR was great considering the technical issues - not being able to hear himself for half the show must be hard. Something happened during Burn with Aarons guitar (which I think happened again in Wolverhampton) and he dissapeared which made Trent pissed. Then Aaron kicked a bottle into the mixing desk on the balcony which was a good shot! Then he proceeded to nearly pull the PA into the crowd which pissed the securty guard off and then lept from it crushing some people just in front of me.

Great show - but like Part I to Wolverhamptons climax. I do respect Ladytron though for having to go out in front of us lot though. :D

It was a bit of a tough gig for me... back in march when we were meant to go (two mates, my girlfriend and I) bought tickets for the first night and then realised I had work till 8 and couldn't have made it to Birmingham from Swansea in time... didn't manage to sell the tickets so that was £100 down the drain... bought replacements for the second night... travelled all the way down...

Walking out of the carpark we heard someone shouting.

"Fuck Nine Inch Nails!", he was storming through town like a slayer fan... may have been a slayer fan actually...? We joked around as we walked to the wetherspoons across the road,

"Mustn't have had a ticket". After finally eating (managed to slow my speech down enough to make an order) walked up to the venue... met with another disgruntled fan and a notice that read Gig postponed... jaws wide open we watched as the NIN Beat the Street buses pass drive off down the road.

Devastated.

The rescheduled gig finally came up... my girlfriend picked me and my friend up (one couldn't make it, let's share a moment for Ray, poor poor Ray), went all the way up, showed up at the academy, turned to Emma (my girlfriend, not some random girl I happened to know in birmingham), asked for the ticket and the response was,

"I thought you had the tickets?!"

mother... fucker.

So we had to buy another two from the scalpers outside... I begrudgingly handed him £40 (couldn't believe I got them for less than face value, would've been even more pleased if we hadn't forgotten the tickets in the first place).

Finally made it inside... stood North side of the stage and got some pretty amazing shot's... I'll post them up when I get the chance, not quite as good as Red Death's but I'm pleased.

I also walked out of there feeling like I'd been swimming in a hot pool in my clothes, I've never sweat so much in my life! I saw Nin in Barca in february and it wasn't that hot!

The gig was outstanding... life changing for me personally and dare I say it... worth the bagfull of cash I forked over for it.

Emma:
"What the fuck are you doing over there, typing an essay?"

Me:
"................um."

"yeh".

I also spoke to a really nice girl called becky that night, we spotted some hot blokes and managed to worm our way to the front row before getting separated.
also, thanks to the 2 guys and 1 girl that showed me the way back to the train station... would have been late for work if i missed the northampton train (though it did get delayed, which was lucky).

Oh and they did play Only. I recognised the beginning of the riff from the BYIT dvd and I started jumping like a loon. Was so happy that Dead Sould got played.

My mate went in there saying "I will die happy if they play Ruiner" so I will punch his corpse if he doesnt die with a smile on his face.

As said, the speech was awesome especially when he asked the crowd if the the academy was the shittiest venue they have been to. Also very considerate to apologise for cancelling.

The Good Soldier was excellent live, and the Beginning of The End gets slated a lot since release but I always had a feeling it would be amazing performed live. There were some nice surprises on the setlist (such as Dead Souls, Help Me I Am In Hell).

Is it me or does Survivalism not translate well live? It all sounded a bit garbled to me. Maybe because of the sound problems Trent spoke of, but I am unconvinced after seeing the other live vids of the song online.

And yes, I was literally wringing sweat out of my t shirt by the end of the night. I swear to god, I weighed myself the next day and had lost 5 pounds.
