I got to hear most of the songs I wanted, exceptions being Big Comedown and Reptile, but you can't win 'em all. At least I got to see a full set this time around.

pics & video (clips) forthcoming. Tired and sore. Went on at 9:22, finished at 11:25. No Reptile, God Given, or Vessel, but we did get The Great Destroyer. And THE WRETCHED followed The Frail, which was marvelous.
At times I liked Boris. 70% of their set, probably not. For sure the final 5 minutes of the last song with the drummer standing high throwing up the horns with his shirt open - stupid. The 15 minute final song is not an exaggeration. They sounded like Aaron North and Thurston Moore having a feeback-off during a thunderstorm with some indiscernible vocals. I'll have to check out some studio stuff.
Like I said: More tomorrow -- I'm so tired and sore (and I had seats!)

the show was awesome, as always, however the crowd wasnt very great, at least from where i was at. to be clear not EVERYONE in the crowd sucked, before i get my ass chewed out, but a LOT of the crowd did. very tame. a lot of people sitting down, not into it, etc. however trent & the band killed it as always. glad to hear the frail/wretched again... and yeah its too bad they didnt play reptile or down in it or any of the other ones theyve been throwing in here and there, but the set list was at least a little different than the detroit show.
^^ and yeah... im sure someones getting a beating tonight for the flashlight part not working...

Echoplex wall worked fine, like it was mentioned - erasing the blue wall during Pinion worked for a second at the top left corner, and then quit. Ok, NOW I mean it... more later.

I would agree, alot of the crowd didn't seem into it. A handful of the people seated around me actually left post-Boris before NIN even started playing. Maybe they got scared off by that awful feedback war at the end of their set. Good god, that was almost excruciating.

Just got home from the show. Had a blast. I was right in front of Robin, and only had to put up with a few assholes during the show. Hadn't seen the band since the summer of 05, so it was really cool to hear the "new" stuff.
Last Nails show I went to at Van Andel was the one where Trent got hit in the head with the zippo during hurt and we missed the last 3 or so songs. Nice to hear a complete show.
Did anyone else feel like all the band members in Boris were playing different songs their entire set?

Just got home, and I thought the show kicked ass. I was on the rail almost directly in front of Robin but closer to the side of the stage. Got in line a little after 1PM and met some really cool people who I hung out with the whole time. I did think the crowd was a LOT tamer than the Auburn Hills show. But that could have been because I was right in front of Trent for Auburn Hills, and plus this time there were guys behind me protecting me from getting squished. But I didn't see near as many crowd surfers as Auburn Hills although I did see one guy crowd surf during Boris. Judging from other's comments, it probably was tamer and not just my perception of things.
I had a lot better time than Auburn Hills, though. Probably because I didn't feel like I was about to hurl the whole time. I was surprised we got The Wretched again which kicked major ass, and I was really happy to hear The Great Destroyer. I would have liked to have heard God Given, but I wouldn't have given up any song that was played for it. One of the people I met caught Robin's first bottle of water, and another of the people in my group ALMOST caught Trent's first tambourine but lost it to the girl next to her.
We all will be back in the future, for sure. Except maybe my husband because he always seems to get sick right before the concerts and ends up being miserable the whole time. Poor guy. If any of my pictures turn out, I'll post them later.

i was also at the show and thought it kicked ass. didnt really care for the Ghost stuff though, seemed like it killed the energy of the show.
with that said, the crowd seemed incredibly tame. i was standing in the back (getting up in front and being crowded in really isnt my style) and the whole time, i was questioning if there was even a pit up there. i saw so many video cameras and cell phones up there, and saw they were so still, i had to assume there wasnt one.
so, in the end, great show, the set list kicked ass (with the exception of ghosts. its great to listen to around the house and what not, but i just think its terrible to be performed live) and best of all, no heavy metallic objects were thrown on stage this time.
on a side note, i dont think this concert was nearly as loud as it was at Deltaplex when they were here last time. it took me almost 3 days to regain hearing from that one, and im already back to normal from this one.

Have to throw this out there... isn't that place such a dump of a venue? Saw PJ there in 2004 and couldn't believe I was seeing a show in what looked like a high school basketball court!

OH MY GOD! Trent came on the stage on FIRE! He was kicking things around and was full force more than the last few shows I saw this tour. Then, to make thing better they played not only THE WRETCHED, but The Great Destroyer!
Needless to say after seeing 5 shows this tour, I finally got to hear the two songs that I had yet to hear. So I was SUPER happy. The show was amazing and it was 100,000 times better than last night in Hamilton. Though I was front row tonight and I just felt all connected again as I was for the start of the tour in Toronto when I was first row too. From now on, forget the seats I say - front row is where it is at.
I too was in front of Robin and I didn't have to put up with much pushing at all. There was more pushing then what I experienced in Toronto, but not too much more.
I also have to comment on Boris. I enjoyed them a lot more tonight too. The drummer is over the top and hilarious. The main guitar player is really good and I really loved listening to him play. I actually think so far that they are my fav opener for this tour.

The show itself was awesome. I dug Boris, only most everyone nearby didn't, but more on those tools soon enough. My only wish was for LINE or "God Given" but we got TBOTE instead. "The Wretched" was sweet...and I thought I might explode during both "Head Down" and "In This Twilight" because they were so fucking good.
The fucking retards in front of and behind me and my wife took us out of the show a few times, which sucked.
Regarding those behind us: Hey drunken frat boys--NIN is NOT for you. I shit you not, after confronting them a second time, one of them said during the Ghosts portion, "Fuck this gay shit, let's go get some pussy!" I'm not making this up. At least we didn't have to hear them talking loudly, harassing the nice older woman next to us, nor smell their cigarettes which they weren't supposed to be smoking anyway.
Now, to the people in front of us: Don't come to a show already drunk and then drink more! Do you not want to even remember the show? This moron was trying to clap along during MOTP and couldn't keep time because he was so hammered. Go hang out and get wasted at a bar next time, douche drinkers! Also, you were wearing YZ shirts, but were heard wondering aloud "What're these from?" during the songs from that album!

Yay, full set this time around, and I got moved up from the cheap seats I bought because (I would guess) they didn't sell very many tickets, so I was pretty much straight back from the stage and only four rows back. The band was great, as always-- it was my 3rd tim seeing them, and this is the best they've ever sounded and performed-- but the crowd WAS pretty tame. I happened to sit in the row behind FOUR people who left early, two of them only halfway through the show, and quite a few who didn't even stand up (then complained that they couldn't see anything, DUH!). The visuals were amazing, even though Trent's nifty flashlight-erasing thing didn't work (at that point, my sister muttered, "Somebody's gonna get their ass chewed . . ."). Best $35 I've ever spent!

Nope, they were 17, 21, 19 & 31. Fantastic show and well worth the drive to get here. Grand Rapids is fecking COLD in November, but no matter. Thanks to all the peeps I talked to -- especially Dingerz for the carpool! And, of course, thank you to NIN for rocking. This is my last show for a while and I'm happy to end the tour on a high note. Aside from "Getting Smaller", I've now seen all the songs I wanted to hear, which is great. Great show. Hadn't seen them since With Teeth in '05 in Toledo, and this show blew my mind in seven different directions at once.
It was kind of a shame to see the place so empty (nobody in the upper bowl), and the crowd so tame, but they put on a good show regardless.
I'm not sure how well the Ghosts stuff is suited for their live show, but the visuals are awesome enough for me to like them. That whole video camera/screen projection/giant Trent face thing was awesome, as well. Previously, the Fragility tours were at the top of my list as far as visuals are concerned, but this tour tops that. Hands down.

I got home around 2:15 am and passed out... so i'm writing this now 
. This was my first nin show with seats and it was awesome! I thought I was going to regret not getting not getting GA again, but nah, I really enjoyed the whole Ghosts set better and Survivalism. I was so suprised when we got The Beginning of the End, The Great Destroyer, and the SA verison of Closer [awesomeness!]. I did enjoy Auburn Hills more, maybe because we got The Big Come Down... I dunno. I recorded a lot of videos, so i'll try to get those up on Youtube soon. Anyway, i'm so excited for Fort Wayne right now!

awesome show! i was so pumped that we got the wretched and the great destroyer- definitely highlights of the show for me. a little bummed we didnt get the big comedown or reptile, but oh well, i saw those in cleveland. definitely worth every penny i spent on tickets, and every minute of the 5 hour drive to and from akron to grand rapids plus the 4 hours of standing in line in the cold.

Just got back from my sisters in GR. This was a fantastic show. Probably my best recording ever. I was standing front of the soundboard dead center and the audio was low from the feed but it came out crystal clear on the recording. I was very happy. My brother and I had pre-sale tickets and we had to scalp a floor seat for my sister outside which we got for very cheap!
The search to get in was ridiculous for me. The old guy frisked me for about a minute! looking inside my shoes and even through my belt buckle!?@ Also around my shirt collar and all I had on was a t-shirt and Jeans?! wtf? my brother and sister got in super fast. It was pretty funny.
To be honest I thought Boris was awful... The distorted guitar for 12 minutes was annoying... At times they sounded good but overall I was not a fan.
When NIN came on I thought there was a lot of energy. I think Trent's voice sounded a lot better than when I saw him earlier this year. The ghosts segment was overall better because the crowd was more quiet this time around during it. I thought Finck was on fire all night! During Echoplex that was the highlight. I can't believe they played "Hurt" last night too, just because of what happened in 06. I thought they would have switched that out for sure with like "Love is Not Enough" or something like that. And not a lot of crowd banter when Trent introduced the band. Oh, and how about during the Warning when the screen was off just a little bit. I took video during that show and will have that up on my site as well. Overall rating wise this was the 2nd best show I have seen this year to Detroit. I took about 500 pictures so I will have those up soon with the audio at my website.

I saw NIN last time with the lighter incident and I have a feeling I liked that concert a bit more. I don't remember being douched around so much there; maybe I was just in a bad place this show. The set was awesome, but I liked the set list of 2006's show better. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic. I have to agree that the Ghosts stuff absolutely killed the atmosphere that was built by March/Gave Up and it never got to that level again.
Though my minor qualms, it was a fucking amazing show.

I was wearing a chest pad my girlfriend devised for rib protection on the rail, and it was pretty noticable something was underneath my shirt just by looking at me (though I had a total of three layers over it). Still, the guy that "searched" me patted everywhere but my chest.

Alright, all home now. Well wow, I am glad I drove the 6 hours for this show. Though I guess I mentioned that already. 
As usual it was great to meet and chat with the people in line, and I'm glad Botley came along with me otherwise it wouldn't have been half as fun!
I just finished uploading some of my best pics to my Flickr. It was hard to take good shots because the smoke used in the show just screwed up the lighting. I really didn't think I got so many great shots but to my surprise I did.

My first NIN show, and it was awesome! I satyed at the hotel connected to the arena, so we walked in the skywalk there, scanned our tickets, and went directly across from there to our seats. Convienet. I was going to buy an 1,000,000 hoddie, but $80? Uh, no.
Boris was not good. They were friggin' louder than NIN. 6 songs in I could finally hear vocals, and that's when I realized they weren't in english. I liked their last song, but did that outro have to be three hours, ten minutes and forty-seven seconds long?
NIN however were amazing. I'm an probably one of the few disappointed that The Frail wnet into The Wretched, but that was cause I wanted Reptile. Oh well. I didn't like how everyone started talking during the Ghosts set. I actually like that part. I loved the visuals, especially for Only, Piggy, and the Ghosts set. I had a seat toward the back, so I was able to see them all pretty clearly. I was happy the screen worked for Echoplex; that was very cool. I was hoping for The Good Soldier, so I was ecstatic when they played it. MOTP and Wish were WAY more intense then I thought they were be. I admit, I teared up during Hurt and In This Twilight. ITT is one of my favorite songs and the main reason I drove from Detroit. Best song of the night, no question.

The Warning, TGD, TBOTE, and TGS were all great surprises! 1mil, MOTP, Terrible Lie, Wish, Gave Up, and HLAH were tremendous! After seeing them for the second time, it was proven to me that Ghosts live is NIN at their finest.
Robin was fierce the whole time, Freese was a monster at the end of Piggy. JMJ looked really bored (or really focused?) at times. I couldn't see Alessandro. Not much talking from Trent. I felt for him, he was really struggling to keep his voice going for about the last 6 songs or so. No disrespect intended though, I saw him digging deep to make it work- he is the master! He did toss around a lot of mic stands, which was cool.
In Detroit I gauged the crowd vibe and intensity by the reaction to 1,000,000 (good crowd) and did so again last night. I don't have the energy to rant about Michigan crowds anymore, so I'll just say (IMO) GR as a whole just doesn't seem to know or appreciate how hard this band works. Even though they come in and go out as pros, sometimes I wonder if TR & co. view some of these smaller shows as throw- aways?
Enough negativity. I'm glad I went, picked up the Bureau of morality shirt that I lamented not buying in Detroit. Love that t! Can't wait for Las Vegas!

boris=sucked. i thought the drummer was great, lots of fun. im not looking forward to seeing them again at ft. wayne. they better be better then last night.
my buddy left in the middle of letting you. i was pretty pissed. he got sick, and slept in my car until the show was over, so it was hard for me not to be pissed at the show, which was nice.
i loved NIN, i cant handle being very close so where i was was a great spot! even after moving back to get away from the mosh that i could not handle.

I drove 4 hours to get to the show cause it was the closest they came to me. It was awesome and I loved having seats that were in the very front. I almost got standing but I had a bad experience being crushed last time so me and my friends got seats. I'm so sore, I went crazy.

Also, I loved hearing Pinion to open before Wish even if it's so short, I just love the guitar riff.

My second NIN show ever, and i think it was better than this first (in Detroit).
I was almost in the exact center of the stage only one person away from the rail. Close enough to be able to see Trent spit while he was singing. (who else saw the big string of spit from his mouth to the mic right at the beginning of 1,000,000? ;)) Anyway, the setlist was pretty great, I'm really glad that I got to hear The Great Destroyer, but kinda disappointed at the lack of God Given. There was also this guy behind me who started to pass out on my shoulder a few times. I didnt really mind, and he even caught me after the show to thank me for not letting him fall over. (if you're reading, you're welcome) All in all, it was a great show and I had a great time. Thanks in advance to anyone posting pics/videos of the show; I can't believe that I forgot my camera.

Haha that's funny, yeah I was the one wearing a hat right next to you. I was plugging my ears for boris cause that last song went on forever and I didn't want to get a headache from those high pitched notes right before NIN came on. The me and my friends came here cause we were crushed in the front rows during Lollapalooza and missed a lot of the show. These were awesome seats though, great view. Decent show but not nearly as good as Detroit was IMHO. I don't feel bad going to both concerts but that's it for me until a new tour. The crowd by and large was kinda annoying and not very into it at all, but I had a blast. Except for the damn broken blue led in the first screen, totally ruined it for me...j/k. Just so we're clear, this is not the same venue in Grand Rapids where the "lighter incident" occurred. That was at the Deltaplex (As someone stated earlier). The Van Andel Arena is actually a very nice venue, this was my second NIN show there, I saw the Fragility 2.0 Tour there on 4/25/2001.
I thought this show was much tighter sonically compared to the Deltaplex show of '06, that place is a dump and everything seemed to echo off those walls (echoplex nod intended) when they played there...
Also, I thought the crowd was a bunch of limp dicks in my hometown of GR. The lollapalooza crowd was insane (AWESOME) and the Detroit crowd was good too, but no one wanted to mosh at this show and the arena was kinda empty...which was disappointing, but overall, still a great show.

So this was a great show. The venue (Van Andel Arena) is known for it's acoustics (as far as arenas go). The Deltaplex, where they played in 06 (see The Lighter Incident) is essentially a polebarn. It has metal walls, is intended for Expos and not concerts, thus it sounds like shit. It was disappointing the turnout for this show, but I'll reiterate what I said earlier: I had a great view of the stage, from 123 row A, and could see the GA crowd too, and aside from no apparent moshing, most of the floor seemed really into it, arms up, lots of singing along around me, cell phones/lighters, etc.
Spiral_out and I were right next to eachother (which we just found out here) and were both thrashing around. I gave myself a hell of a headache from rocking out, which went away for a while and then Pinion/Wish brought it back. Thanks Boris, for starting that off.
I was SO relieved when we got The Wretched. Bummed about not getting TBCD or God Given, but The Great Destroyer made up for it. I can cross another song off the list of tracks I NEED to see live now.

(seeing I was right in front of him) But what I didn't see is that it was shifted over. Oops. So two main mistakes that night. I was so glad I made the trip from Milwaukee for this show! The set list was near perfect in my eyes..I wouldn't have traded anything for anything else. The Great Destroyer was the main reason I made the trip, so I'm glad that it all worked out.
I started the night about three rows deep between Trent and Justin. During Boris, there were a couple of really annoying girls that would not shut up. If people asked them to quiet down during Boris' set, they just got louder and mocked the person. Ugh...I hate people. I had never heard Boris before, but I definitely liked what I saw. Most people it seems didn't care for the feedback war and finale - I thought that was the best part...but I am a metalhead at heart.
Once NIN took the stage, I got pushed back a bit (6 rows deep, directly in front of Justin), gladly away from the annoying girls. After March of the Pigs, my area remained calm for pretty much the rest of the night, except a couple of bursts here and there. I was able to get some great pictures which you all can view here:

All in all, the band sounded great, the visuals were amazing. Just please come to Wisconsin next time around so I don't have to go so far...we have bigger venues than The Rave/Eagle's Ballroom!

And I always wondered myself if this was like version 4 in the building's plan. Alphaplex, Betaplex, Gammaplex, oh, how about Deltaplex?! It really should be called Echoplex though. It's the worst place on this side of the state to see a concert. There are clubs that sound better in GR. It's main purpose is like 8 gun and knife shows a year, and other stupid expos and those "xbox and ps2 games from $2, washer/dryer combos from $50! come check out the amazing deals..." things you hear about on the radio. Waste of space.
But again we digress. This was at Van Andel, which sounds awesome. I am also a little surprised that there were no protestors outside - being so close to West Michigan's Bible Belt (Hudsonville). Maybe they're just getting lazy/it was too cold.

During "Hurt" at the Deltaplex in Feb. of 06 someone threw a lighter and it hit trent in the face. causing him to slam his keyboard down and walk off stage. At the 2005 Deltaplex show, Some waste of skin idiot threw a Lighter at Trent During Hurt & It hit him in the face. Yeah, that was really messed up too. And your right about Trent sharing something so personal with the rest of us. He did it because he knows the rest of us also hurt in some kinda way too. Hurt has become everyone's song.

The break (actually breaks) are still there. We may have gottten TGD, but missed out on TBCD (huge bummer), and Vessel (who cares - well ok the visuals are sweet). The Palace show also had The Good Soldier and Reptile, if memory serves. [EDIT: and God Given. I love this song, and the visuals are so killer, it's a shame it's been taken out of rotation lately. TBCD & Vessel would have been Great for sure. Reptile was not performed at the Palace. Grand Rapids also didn't get a speech. Trent Introduced the band & that was It. I totally agree. This was the 1st time for me to here The Great Destroyer Live [Was not played in 05 or 06] & I felt completely satisfied when the show was over. Reptile was one of the 1st songs that hooked me to NIN & it is just so intense & heavy Live. I heard it & Burn Live [My 1st NIN Concert] in 05 Detroit. I came up with the ultimate NIN tour: 2 Shows per city, 30+ songs 1st night, & then, 30+ songs the next night. Name of the Tour: The Greatest Shit & Then Some Tour.

I'm a Tool fan (hardcore), but I think Boris' musicianship is one of quality as well, especially the guitars. But totally different bands, them and Tool. Boris' crazy variety of styles is what I think ends up throwing some people. Next time and beyond, I recommend wearing earplugs for openers, unless you're a fan of the band. I especially came prepared for Boris since I knew they were that loud of a band, and even if I were anywhere near to call myself a real fan of Boris, I think I'd still wear earplugs 'cause it's just that massive. I am a hardcore Nails fan, though, through and through...so they have the right to make my ears ring (they still are from Fort Wayne).

she also has the intro and 1000000 but its a bit fucked up since a group of assholes came charging from behind us (we weren't even in the vacinity the pit or a pit) and almost knocked my woman over. she also has the intro and 1000000 but its a bit fucked up since a group of assholes came charging from behind us (we weren't even in the vacinity the pit or a pit) and almost knocked my woman over. Blantent stupidity. But you can hear her threating their life directly after.
But the rest of the video is cool.That incident plus the whole smoking nazi's thing really made this a blah show for me. Audience seemed a bit too hopped up on something. Maybe it was just where I was standing.
Out of 5 shows on this tour this was number 5 sorry to say, and I really like Grand Rapids.....

Thanks for the intel. Theres a great recording the next night after the deltaplex in Toledo @ ninlive.com. Trent did not perform Hurt at that show.iMatt wrote:yes.
