@ Virgin Festival

You know the drill. Post only if you were there in body (since it's a festival, I think it's best to make that the only requirement)

wow wow wow!!!!! fukn aye that was the shit. hurt still gives me goose bumps. I don't know the setlist, seemed the same as the last shows. was it me or was there a bunch of ghosts tracks played? sounded awesome. the lights..oh those fukn lights. intro 2 only was sweet. god dam that was a show. u could hear TR voice fukn up, felt kinda bad. the man is the shit. the highlight 4 me was EVERYfuknThing. well off to knoxville. wwowwoowowowoowowowowoowowowowooowowwoowow still all pumped. sorry if I flapped it, I haven't seen nin since july 8th, 2006. fukn nin is the shit! poor kayne, TR told us 2 go see him play, cuz nobdy was there...hahaahaa 1 down, 4 more 2 go....

Great show.. Sorry, no setlist, but it's pretty similar to previous shows. A little shorter, since it was a festival (i.e. no Head Down, Good Soldier, etc.). The reports on visuals which I've been reading here did not disappoint. In hindsight, I wish I had watched at least part of the show from further away to get a better view of the graphics, but there is always Philadelphia... I was about 20-30 feet back from the rail on the left side.

After talking to the crowd for a minute and introducing Hurt ("And now we're going to play something depressing"), Robin's guitar wasn't working, so it took 30 seconds or so to get a replacement.. Trent looked furious on the screen, but didn't say anything.

The drunken redneck factor was a solid 8, which normally would have pissed me off, but STP's set earlier was a full blown 10, so I could manage.

The show was great! The redneck factor does score an 8 with me as well and some idiots just pick the wrong time to crowd surf. I did not hear anything wrong or messed up with trents voice and the visuals were by far TOP NOTCH!

Oh the last thing Trent said was "Go stop by Kayne (West) he looks a little lonely with everybody over here"

I'm pretty sure that is the correct setlist.

The band sounded amazing, the visuals were surreal.
'The Warning/Vessel' were really cool to see, the screen is just out of this world... I really gotta do some research on that screen. Loved the new twist to 'Piggy'... he said we were a great crowd, loved the Kanye West comment, another cool thing was the way the band said goodbye during the end of 'In This Twilight'. Ah! all in all amazing show.

I'm ready for my next two shows!

I was in the second row on the right side near the topleft corner, motherfuckers. Amazing show, much better than the last one I saw, which was also great, and now I'm definitely going to the reschedueled one in Worcester. The Kanye comment had me rolling, and I was really happy to see Trent actually enjoy playing in a festival type setting for once.

The crowd was really laid back at this show. Even still NIN put on a great show. Trent sang his little heart out, which I completely appreciated, but his voice sounded off as the set went on -- it seemed worst during Echoplex. When he spoke to the crowd, you could really tell he's losing his voice. (He sounded worse than he did at Mohegan Sun). I really hope he gives it time to fully recover.

My only complaint about this show was that the festival is set up so poorly. We could hear the music coming from the Dance Tent during all the quieter NIN songs, including Hurt. That really was annoying. I'm sure, though, that the closer you were to the stage, the less of an issue that caused.

Yeah, don't put that in quotes because that was not exactly what he said. He didn't use the word lonely. TR said something to the effect that everyone should go watch Kanye's set after NIN is done because he felt bad that no one was over there.

Obviously, he was making a funneh because he would have no idea how many people were there or not. Indeed, it seemed like the front area of NIN's stage (in front of VIP area) cleared out after STP and really did not fill back up again.

Burlesk, your setlist looks pretty spot on, but I think they played one more Ghosts track (31? a heavier rock one) later in the show.

When speaking, you could especially hear the strain in his voice... Hoping this clears up for him.

I'm still in D.C. until tomorrow but took 2gb of photos and got all of Vessel on video (and a bit of Piggy before getting yelled at by security). Will work on uploading when I get back to LA tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Overall great show though. As expected, they did not disappoint.

P.S. If anyone saw the big NIN logo on the painting wall by the other stage (it had Saran wrap over it), that was my handy-work.

Indeed. I had one shrieking "TRENT!!!" in my ear all night, even when it was only Josh up there for Echoplex. And not that I condone the groping/clothes ripping of girls that are crowdsurfing, but what the hell were these chicks expecting? Don't crowdsurf while wearing a sundress/skirt unless you want to give strangers a free show. And even then, don't do it; you never know if Daddy's in the audience.

Yeah, let me add a little something about these annoying little mall-punk wanna be NIN fan cuntbags: Don't fucking go to any NIN show. Ever. There were these two stupid little bitches right next to me who were like "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen, NIN is like, the best , like, band, like, ever. I fell love with them not too long ago blah blah blah, I'm only 5'2, but I'm gonna go get up there and touch Trent blah blah blah, it's my first time seeing him, blah blah blah." Now, I was pretty much at the rail, and there is no fucking way those two idiots were getting anywhere near in front of me or anyone else, because these other two assholes almost came to blows with the dude right beside me for trying to let the two girls up. They were talking to the guys surrounding them, including me, and flirting, giving out numbers, etc... the whole time. When one of them told me I smelled good for the third time, I had just had enough, and I said "Just shut the fuck up and listen, OK? If you're a fan, pay attention to the god damn show." It worked for a while, I guess. But as the show went on, we were all getting more and more compressed, and they both freaked out and had to be pulled out by the security guards because they couldn't handle it any more. Other than the music, that was the highlight of the night. If you're too fucking uncomfortable being THAT close, then stay in the back or fucking stay at home, it's simple.

On a completely different note, did anyone realize that a lot of the guards were total fucking assholes? Like, I was at the rail the whole show, and there were numerous times where people just couldn't handle it anymore, and you know what, that's OK, even in the situation with those two girls, it can be a bit tough at times, but when someone is uncomfortable in that situation, and doesn't feel safe, it should be their job to help them so they can get out of there, not tell them to fuck off, and make them just force their way to the back when they were literally 5 feet away from the front. I just think that is a such a shitty thing to do when people need help. They helped the girls out, obviously, but the guys I saw asking to be taken out received no help whatsoever. That was pretty much my only qualm about the Vfest staff. I wonder if there is someone to complain to about that, because it isn't right.

this was my first time seeing NIN and it really was incredible. i had no idea that the stage show was as spectacular as it was. the effects during "the greater good" were deffinitely a highlight, like when his lips and the mic came through on the screen. i was just blown away the whole time and i did think the crowd surfing got a little annoying but what else would you expect at the vfest?

the year zero songs were exceptional and terrible lie was just ridiculous. good luck on the rest of the tour guys

Oh man this show was amazing, i had to admit i was worried about the lighting because in the beginning they really weren't doing much, even for closer which typically always has awesome light showishness. but they really outdid themselves after the set break, i was so psyched they played pinion <3 right before they went on i was talking to my friend saying something to the effect "i really hope they play pinion to start, even if they stop in the middle and restart and play it i dont care"

i was really excited when it actually happened, i've never seen nin do a set change like they did so it was really a treat.

any chance we can get the soundboard recording or something, i'd love to have this show live on my i-tunes :3

The show was completely awesome. The only issue I had was the brevity of it compared to other shows and the lack of God Given and The Great Destroyer....that and some of the glorious TDS tracks like Heresy, Ruiner, and The Becoming. But I really doubt any of them will show up this tour.

I think the ghosts were mixed up, but maybe not - anyway - doesn't really matter I guess.

I was able to transcribe the set list directly off of the sheet that was on the mixing board and I think the lighting control cabinet (two mac pros).

I had actually expected them to play The Wretched, which I was really hoping for, since it was on the play list for other shows. Maybe next time.

Forty-eight hours later and my mind is still blown! This was my second time seeing NIN and even with knowing what to expect, I still can't believe I witnessed that level of badass in front of my own eyes.

By far my favorite human moment of the show was during Letting You. One of Robin's pedals (an expression pedal maybe?) was giving him trouble during the bridge and out of nowhere he kicks the fucking thing and it appeared to fly over the edge of the stage (didn't see where it went). He turns around and keeps playing as his guitar tech rushes to plug shit back together. Next thing I see is Robin stomp his effects board and apparently nothing happened because his tech comes back out, picks up the board to check the cables and two seconds later Robin ripped the thing out of his hands and threw it down on the stage. I wish I could have seen the look on that guys face because Robin looked pissed as hell. The ending of the song was epic and angry if I have ever seen it. Where is the video of this?!

Closer took me by surprise when he sang the lyrics to The Only Time during the first part of the breakdown. Been waiting a while for that to happen... Vessel was Fucking Insane! Trent seemed to be feeling it like crazy and I still swear I saw him backhand something off his stand towards the end of the song before he started getting rough on his keyboard. Can anyone else who was up close confirm this?

The Big Come Down was one of the ones I was waiting for, and it didn't disappoint. Sadly though, after the first chorus, the swinging lights visual was no more. Either something or someone fucked up because in its place was a mostly dark stage during its cues. But it didn't matter by the time the orgy of a bridge dropped, and I don't think anyone noticed anyway.

Other highlights included Only, The Greater Good, and Survivalism which sounded a lot better than what I expected; the guitars were turned up! But where the hell was Alessandro during THTF and Echoplex? I could barely hear him. Oh, and Trent had an awesome night despite his recent throat issues. The only time I noticed him struggle was during the chorus of ITT, and if you ask me, I think it was pretty widely assumed it was mic trouble anyway. Otherwise, you couldn't tell he had been sick.

As far as the complaints about the audience, I might as well have been with a complete different crowd than the one described. Sure, there were high schoolers, crowd surfers, and drunk mofos but what the fuck... its a festival. I wouldn't be saying any of this if I hadn't seen as much overall respect towards the band and other people as I did. I never saw any form of pit and everyone around me made sure there was room to be comfortable. The only time I heard inappropriate screaming was during the beginning of The Frail and maybe two brief shouts at the beginning of Hurt before someone told the person to shut up. Nothing but dropped jaws during the amazing Ghosts set and TGG, it was awesome and I was impressed (and lucky) for my first time attending a big festival.

Props to all the cool fans I met: red shirt/red lighter guy, cell phone videographer guy behind me, and the cute girl with the nose ring who scared me with an undercover cop comment after HLAH. It was so loud I couldn't get any names, but I'd share my smoke again anytime people.

Maybe one day I'll see The Becoming live, but until then, this has to be the best show I have ever seen. Thank you to all the people who took the time to post pictures and video, it is greatly appreciated!

And I know it goes without saying but smoking green throughout the set will definitely enhance the experience a hundred fold! Should've been mandatory.

Alot of cool comments already for this show I just want to add something.

Right when NIN started about 10 feet back on the left side of the stage there was this bootlegger started filming during the first song. A security guard got pissed he was filming with a quality Sony Camera and started pegging him with watter bottles to get him to stop filming. The bootlegger being annoyed started yelling at the security guard to come over to him and fight him. The security guard was acting all tough, but never hopped over the railing. The security guard got the head security guard who in my opinion is the most intimidating looking guy in the world. All the head security guard did was stare the bootlegger down and he put his camera away. I am pretty sure the head security guard was Trents private bodyguaurd because it looked like the same guy that guards Maynard from Tool/APC. I was at a APC show about 4 years and and i was talking to a security guard there about the same head guard at this show. He was telling me he was Maynards private security guard and had a 7th degree blackbelt and can kill people with any body part including his penis. Anyway, does anyone else know the security guard I am talking about. He is kinds hispanic or hawaiian looking. Is he Trents private bodyguard?

i was recording too and had two security guards and a festival employee behind me and noone told me anything, i could've recorded the whole thing if my camera hadn't been a bitch, it kept going in and out of focus plus i forgot to put new batteries and had to turn it off mid concert to save for some songs at the end.

There were two large "community art walls" in which people were given paint and could just paint whatever. Was fairly cool. There was a lull in the day and I was bored so I went over there, saw a Paramore logo and got a little more motivated and "fixed" the wall. (I'm a middle school teacher and my students play that crap all the time, so it was quite lovely to paint over it.)

Was anyone else surprised by how good STP were? I'd heard bad things about this tour, aynd I didn't have a lot of hope after they came on 20-min late, but they took a bunch of songs I don't even like that much and put on a damn good show. Scott Weiland was functional, which was a fucking shocker. We were joking before the show that the reason for the delay was probably just that they couldn't find him. We'd actually planned to see Dylan, but we moved up all the way to the second row during Iggy's set and didn't want to lose our spot for Nails.

Iggy was the motherfucking beast. Holy crap, that dude had more energy than pretty much the rest of the bill combined, and he's in crazy good shape for his age.

We ditched Paramore for She and Him - best call of the day.

There was more weed in the dance tent than backstage at a Kottonmouth Kings concert.

Black Rebel Motorcycle club were lots of fun.

I'd heard good things about Shudder to Think, but I wasn't really impressed. A dude in the row behind me yelled out to a roadie for a setlist and actually got one.

I find it amazing how varied people's experience of the audience is at each show. i think it just shows that when we're all packed in tight, one doesn't really know much about what's going on beyond the people in your immediate vicinity.

I couldn't really comment on STP's performance, since I spent most of their set fighting to keep my place one row back from the rail. Biiiig guy and his even bigger friend tried everything they could to get the security guards to take me out so they could have my spot. God I don't know if I've ever personally met a bigger asshole. He shouted obscenities at me, threatened me, told the guards I was sick and needed to be taken out, it went on and on. Right after NIN started I finally managed to move over a bit and 2 gentlemen who'd been watching all this let me in at the rail. So I managed to get front and centre and had a great time. Ironically, those 2 big guys ended up protecting me from the constant crowd surfers and i never felt any pushing, they took it all. Weird experience.

They played 25 Ghosts! Yeah! That's the one I used for my film.

So what's with Alessandro not acknowledging the crowd's good wishes when he exits during ITT? He ignored us in Toronto too.
