SPEECH:
After "God Given", Trent said "Thank you very much. I know this is the cliché thing to say on-stage, but are you guys having fun tonight? Good. We... this is pretty much the start of the tour. We sit in a dark room for about four months trying to think of what people might want to hear and work [on production]... and you don't know how it's going to go over until you get in front of a crowd full of people, and on nights like tonight it's real fun to play for you people and we appreciate that." Something like that, anyway.

PROS:
The visuals are damn impressive. When a grid of 112 moving M2000 lamps on an elevator truss is one of the less notable aspects of the production, you must be at a NIN show. "Terrible Lie" was especially cool, IMO. Trent screamed "this is the only time I really feel alive" during the "Closer" breakdown, and Robin whispered the "I would never tell you anything that wasn't absolutely true" lines in "God Given" to great effect.

CONS:
The sound in the ACC is very muddy, and there is no way of getting around this. Robin's guitar fucked up at the beginning of "The Big Come Down" and it wasn't really fixed until the solo. They are back to playing the Fragility arrangement of "Hurt", which is not my favourite. They played "6 Ghosts I", but with the visuals from "10 Ghosts II", which I would have preferred to hear. Oh well! Those are minor complaints.

OVERALL:
Very good show. Deerhunter was cool, too; the only song of theirs that I recognized was "Fluorescent Grey" and it was nice to hear. My favourite moments were the ending of "In This Twilight", mandolin+harmonium on "Piggy" and the new "Only" intro.
Wow, fucking unfuckingbelievable. Even after seeing them essentially play the same show 2 days ago at Lolla nothing was lost on me. The visuals are just so unbelievable. You could tell Trent had some minor vocal battles, but he sounded fine. Highlights include God Given (Robin was awesome), Survivalism, Hurt (like the old arangement, and it's a classic), and In This Twilight.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Okay, so... forgive me if I'm suggesting something stupid here, but did it not look like someone was planting something in a bathroom on one of the cams during Survivalism?

Good show. Not my favourite NIN experience, but that's not much of an insult at all. I do think that this might be the best the band has ever sounded live. I was in the stands tonight, but from where I was the crowd seemed for the most part pretty dull. People got into it a few times - surprisingly so during Survivalism - but it took a while for things to warm up, except for a group near the right side of the stange (kinda between where Trent and Robin were standing).

Either way, a fun night. Wish I had a more straight-on view for some of the visuals, but I'm quite happy either way.

Also, whoever was in the front with their arms hanging lazily on camera during Survivalism should be ashamed of themselves!

Speaking of which, while I really like that song, I don't think it sounded that great live. Seemed a bit empty during the verses, to me.

Also, Only is much, much better this time around. I really didn't like the guitar stuff that was being done with that song on the W_T tours.
Grand Pontiff
Absolutely awesome show. Didn't line up for all that long in the nin.com line, the rain was ridiculous, but I still managed a decent spot in between Trent and Robin. Didn't see any ETSers in the pit, but I think I did see Swindley & Co. at the will call. (ps: nice semi-hidden laminate you had there in the beer tub picture. I think I should have hung out with you guys!)

I was most taken with the visuals. After every song I keep thinking "ok, that was the best lighting" but then something came along and topped it. In the end, I think 6 Ghosts I won for best visuals. But those swinging lights during a song I'm not remembering right now was pretty sweet too.

I really appreciated hearing Vessel and God Given. It was nice to have a lot of post With Teeth stuff.

Did Josh use a water jug during the Ghosts section? It sure was a different mix of instruments up on stage. Loved seeing the double bass.

And obligatory crowd comment: I was very close to the front and was pretty much able to hold my spot while watching the majority of the show. That's never happened at a NIN show before, and I actually liked it. The set was definitely quieter than any other show I've been to, but that's what Ghosts and The Slip were. I had a group of guys behind me who just kept wanting to start a mosh, but couldn't find a song that was loud enough. Good - I just wanted to watch and listen without being pummeled for once :)

Trent's voice sounded fine to me, not a trace of problems from what I could tell. Thanks for the awesome show!
Master of the Ninth Arch
To add to the speech mentioned above, he said "to figure out what works and what's shit". (or something like that) The acc is absolute balls for live shows.

Excellent show, crowd was pretty in to it. Josh had some trouble turning on one of the drum block lights and putting another one out during echoplex (makes more sense if you see it), but otherwise, very impressive stuff. Sorry, I kinda miss Aaron...

Trent's voice was okay, you only heard how hoarse it was towards the end. I think a lot of the crowd became a bit bewildered once we hit the ghosts section, the visuals were awesome, but after the very hard rocking first part, everyone just kinda got confused.

Trent's face/eyes during the greater good, uber creepy ala rubber jonny. I feel like a total nerd, I was getting distracted during survivalism wondering if there was anything arg-y about it....

Reaaaallly could have easily been longer than 2hrs........

Yeah, i saw that too, but it's a fucking men's room, and i didn't want to be arsed about with the only petty reason of "dude, i'm just looking for a usb key...."

Me too. Jeordie as well. I'm sure it'll wear off, though.

I actually thought they could have done more with that, like the swinging lights from the early 2007 shows.

Yes, those songs aren't my favourites but they were great to hear live. I agree with the rest of what you said, too!

I liked Aaron, but I think that Finck's doing a much better job. He just seems more with it, while Aaron was more inclined to just do his own thing.
how long did anyone wait for post concert autographs?

I dunno, it seems to me like Finck is just as sloppy as Aaron, only more predictable.
Knight of the Royal Axe
I haven't seen NIN live in a while and I thought the show was quite good. I loved Terrible Lie, it was nice and hard and everyone seemed to really be into it. The visuals were pretty cool especially when the guy came by and 'wiped' down the screen so it turned black. I also didn't notice anything wrong with TR's voice. All in all it was fun and despite the really strong weed smell right behind me I had a really good time. I didn't enjoy the opening bands stuff, it all kinda sounded the same to me.

To each his own. Sometimes I thought Aaron was a bit off-time and I couldn't stand what he was doing with Only, but generally I liked him. However, I thought Robin sounded great tonight and really made a few numbers work.

A question for people who might have also been at earlier shows:
Did the visuals for Vessel shut off early, or are they supposed to cut out there?

I would have loved if The Greater Good was actually played live (you would think that would be the norm for a concert, but I guess they had so much equipment on stage to put away they couldn't play anything for a bit). That's probably my favourite off of Year Zero. And why didn't we meet up?? haha...
Cheshire_Cat wrote:I loved Terrible Lie, it was nice and hard and everyone seemed to really be into it.
Me too. If that song wasn't on the setlist something would have been missing for me.
Cheshire_Cat wrote:The visuals were pretty cool especially when the guy came by and 'wiped' down the screen so it turned black.
Yeah, the show was definitely more "theatrical" than I've ever seen NIN. Trent acting to a camera (somebody around me shouted the cameraman was Rob, but I couldn't tell), Josh pushing buttons on the screen, Trent wiping the LCD lights away to reveal the stage... it wasn't just Trent acting this time - there were band members and roadies involved. It was a show, that's for sure.

Great show. Still digesting how this massive amount of fantastic production really differs from the more 'basic' show last year.

Heavy of the newer songs!! :D The songs from Year Zero that werent getting played much in 2007 were great. God Given was fantastic. I really like the new intro to Only.

The screens for The Warning and Vessel were great.. especially the bursting effect on Vessel.

Like arrangement on Hurt with Robin on the acoustic guitar. In This Twilight was million times better than the recorded version

Crowd was really tame..

The show really progressed in segments. I think a lot of people were expecting a full out rock show of March of the Pigs etc the whole night. The energy of the crowd was up and down, but overall there was more head nodding that actual movement.. somewhat of a relief.

Not sure what I think of the line up yet. Weird seeing a few different people up on the stage.
Grand Pontiff
Just got in from a day so fantastic they should invent new words to describe it! Overwhelemed and tired, I won't try to give a proper review until after a good nights rest. I took a whole mess of pictures and think I got some decent shots worth posting, so i'll have those up tomorrow or Thursday. Had big plans for videos but failed miserably..suckered my friend into recording though. She got Echoplex, The Good Soldier and a few others i think. Keeping my fingers crossed that she gets around to sending me those so i can post them for you guys (she's been having computer problems lately, so who knows when i'll see them).

Favorite parts of the show:
God Given, The Good soldier, video screens during Survivalism, The Warning, Piggy, In This Twillight and ALL of the visuals for Ghosts.

I'm finding it difficult to form a proper thought right now so i'm going to hydrate and head to bed...but it really needs to be said that it is and honour and privilege to see Robin perform.
Master Traveler
ok, four things:
1) they were so fucking tight i am surprised that stage didn't turn into a diamond.
2) josh freese is an octopus...with endless energy.
3) the singing was wonderful, but i think mr. reznor had better stick to sign language on off show days or he might bust his throat before the tour ends...

4) what a fucking incredible show.

for all of you who are creaming in anticipation of nin hitting your town...you have NO IDEA what you are in for.

it is going to take a week for me to come back down again, and i don't mean because of the insane amounts of reefer being smoked...

rah! thanks guys!

Great show. I was right up front and I loved the Ghosts stuff. People in the back were saying the floor was quiet, but that was cool 'cause it let me listen to the music. It's hard when you're right up front to enjoy the show sometimes, so it was nice that this time I was able to be there and actually listen was real nice. Thanks to the people around me for helping to create a great atmosphere in which to enjoy the show.
Especially Chelsea for attacking that girl who wouldn't keep her hands under control.
Jenn, I'm really looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Edit: Getting drenched was rather not fun, especially since only the presale people were out in the torrential downpour. The rest of the GA tickets were under cover. They should have gotten us in sooner. Ah, well, we kept each other warm.

Just came back from the show.

We were seated, but it didn't take away any of the excitement of the show. I can't believe that even after Lollapalooza, the concert still felt fresh and new.

Vessel was fantastic yet again, and God Given was just beautifully done... I love Finck's solo during God Given... Awwhh, man! I can't say enough about how happy I am with Finck's work in the new line-up. He just has a great stage presence to him.

Trent had some problems with his voice, but he pulled it off and did a great job! Light work was amazing as it has been in this tour.

Highlights: Vessel, The Greater Good, God Given, In This Twilight
Troll
Jesus fucking christ!

1. I was NOT expecting an encore. I was seriously leaving after HLAH and then a guy stopped me and said "there's more! trust me!". 5 track encore was mind blowing!

2. The visuals are the BEST NIN has ever put up. Seriously, combine all the previous visuals from the previous show and they don't even come close to visuals for this tour! The futuristic industrial city shown during "In This Twilight", the visuals for "The Greater Good" with camera zoomed on trent (i didn't realize it until halfway and i was mind blown!), the visuals for "Survivalism" was BADASS! Visuals for every track was top-notch.

3. The choice of tracks. Trent is a genius! His previous shows had a specific pattern that can easily be picked up. This tour, i was always playing a guessing game on what song will be played next. (P.S. I think i was the first to scream when 999,999 kicked in. People though i was nuts until the lights went out heh).

4. The band was kickass and solid! he different instruments on stage blew my mind!

5. The band exit was the best I've ever seen. Period!

6. The crowd was pushy at time, but had mininal crowd surfer (only at HLAH) which was good. Floor was NOT quiet, but they weren't rowdy either. I was in in the 3rd or 4th row in the floor btw.

Alright guys, good night! :)

Great show! Front row and I was SO impressed with how un-pushy people were in the pit. I love seeing Robin back, and I loved how they switched things up this tour with the middle Ghosts set.

I did not enjoy being SOPPING wet going into the show though. We got DROWNED while waiting in line to go in for the nin.com presale. Though despite it all, the lot of us had fun.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the visuals a bit further back in September. Overall, the guys looked like they were having a good time and Trent's voice was amazing when singing considering how raspy it was when he spoke to us later on.

I'm so bloody tired now though but I'll post more later.

Fantastic show. This tour feels like a slightly different NIN - more theatrical; more 'polished' but yet still able to rock out with cock out.

Condsider my mind blown.
Master Traveler
Amazing show! The visuals were truly spectacular. I think it was visually the most interesting and creative show I've seen. The band was very tight and sounded great for the whole thing. I particularly enjoyed the Year Zero tracks and all the interactive, theatrical elements. It was a truly great show!
Grand Pontiff
I have some shitty cell phone pics... my seats were horrid. The video set up was kind of lost on me for most of that portion of the show. Unless you're more or less facing it directly it just serves as a bright obstruction of the performances.

The set was decent, the performance was good. Robin's guitar was out for the first half of the big come down, and tossed it into the tech pit and had a bit of a thing there. He played on though, and then it got resolved to finish the track. It was a good show, but I've been to two previous ones that I had a much better experience at.

I hope there's a DVD, or Blu Ray of this tour so I actually see what the stage design and sequences actually look like.

Echoplex was the highlight of the show for me, that was brilliant. And, God Given was good.

I prefer Robin over Aaron, he's a much more intuitive performer, and his playing fits more with NIN aesthetic. He has a much more fitting stage presence than Aaron as well. I found that Aaron was to wrapped up int he guitar tech at times during his performances, but Robin is like an angry and horny gorilla painting.

I like this line up better, and I think if I had better seats I would have been much more into the show. Just goes to show, early bird gets the worm.

Oh yeah, cell phone pics...

You can Download them at full resolution, but because they're from a cell phone, that doesn't mean a lot :(

Just got back to Buffalo from this gig. First ever NIN show for me and it couldn't have been better. The lighting was sick, I walked around during Vessel, The Warning, and some Ghosts to take in the sights from different angles and from everywhere it's great. Trent was somewhat hoarse but his voice was on when it needed to be.

Robin is the perfect guitarist for NIN, and Freese is a beast. Impressed by Justin and, well, Alessandro makes it look too easy. He should try to look like he's struggling so I can praise his effort more. Tight performance, The Slip is a WAY better album live.

The encore was great too - well done fans for not ruining Hurt. This is the tour of the summer, my brother isn't even an NIN fan and he really, really dug it.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Esor Lxa wrote:The encore was great too - well done fans for not ruining Hurt.
Word. I didn't hear anyone yell anything about Mr. Cash, praise the Lord. I could have done without the girl behind me singing along for Hurt in her not-so-amazing voice, but I can't really hold it against her either.
Bricklayer
Unfuckingbelievable...

Best production EVER. (Canucks created it, I might add) and it was amazing to see Finck play again. In particular, I totally noticed that Terrible Lie was way better... and definitely brought back the old school NIN I remember...

At one point, the interactive light wall was not working for Josh during Echoplex and he gave it the finger before he exited off. During The Big Come Down, Finck's guitar was fucking up and I watched him yell at the roadie then THROW the mother fucking guitar off stage. It was AWESOME.

Everyone was tight but I HATE the ACC because the sound is ballz. Still I enjoyed the show anyhow...

I was ashamed of the people who were filmed at the front during Survivalism and were like zombies. FUCKING LOOK ALIVE PEOPLE! The Pit was so tame I didn't know where I was ... not that I didn't enjoy having space to move and air to breathe... it was just a little weird...

Other than the above minor instances, it was better and better as each song played. I took a few pictures but I'm too damn tired to post... maybe tomorrow

To bring up an age-old gripe: I thought for once this would be THE show I wouldn't hear clapping during Hurt. But then it started on my half of the floor during the last possible quiet part. And then it got horribly off beat. And now I'll just have to hope for change for the next show :)

Personally I think they should retire Hurt and Closer from the roster, but I know it's not gonna happen. Too many fans would be disappointed if Hurt wasn't played, and Trent has to pander to the "huh huh fuk u liek an aminal" dollar somehow (for the record, I like the song a lot, but I also think it's an incredibly dark song and it's hard to get into the right mood for it when so many people around you fall into the "woo, let's smoke up and sing along with the chorus!" category - it's easier to enjoy the dark songs that are also angry and loud in that context... okay, enough rant!). I also think they could stand to lose Only now that it's been done right, but I'm not sure they will since it was one of With Teeth's "singles".

I'd love to see Last, Ruiner, and The Line Begins To Blur make appearances on the NIN setlist again in the future, but I'm quite happy with the set they played tonight. I also want to see them keep doing Survivalism live, even if I didn't think it sounded all that good tonight.
Grand Pontiff
^ Lose Only? Because it's finally being played well? Odd logic there. I'd keep Only throughout the tour, and add one or two more With Teeth songs maybe. Line Begins to Blur would work...

I'd love to see Hurt retired in favor of Right Where it Belongs. That's a hidden gem that doesn't get played live. With RWIB and In This Twilight I don't think Hurt is necessary. Closer can stay.

I didn't think Survivalism was great tonight either, but I don't like the song alot.

God Given was crazy awesome. Everythng Robin does right in NIN came out on that track.

Playing with sensory lights looked really fucking cool.

this show was jaw dropping good.
visually, the best ever imo but then again, every time i attend a show, Trent does something that knocks the socks off the previous performances which btw, is the best thing about NIN.

I'm not talking about ditching it for the rest of the tour - I'm talking about subsequent tours. Sorry for the confusion.

I think Only is an alright song, but its mood doesn't fit a lot of the other stuff that well. I'd have much, much rather heard Getting Smaller tonight than Only, for instance. Line Begins To Blur was also done amazingly during the WT tour, so it can afford to take a turn warming the bench for now, but I'd like to see it back someday. It was one of my favourite performances from the 2006 winter tour.

Right Where It Belongs did get played live during both of the With Teeth tours. It had its moment to shine, and it can stand to be shelved for a while, but I'd love to see it come back some day too. There are a lot of great quiet, melancholy songs in the catalogue that would make amazing closers, but the fact remains that Hurt is the most iconic of all of them, and it's clear that Trent hasn't gotten completely sick of it yet.
Master ad Vitam
^^^^ That was sooo waaay cool from down front. It was like he was wiping away a steamy mirror and he seeing us behind the mirror. Loved Only. Thanks for the video, solar eyes!

And thanks to everyone for the great pictures. Keep 'em coming! All I had was a crummy cell phone.

I keep saying, that WE WERE ACTUALLY LISTENING and able to enjoy the music. It was so much better than being surrounded by drunken idiots yelling and jumping up and down to absolutely everything. Anyway, that wasn't us, we were jumping and singing in the centre. That picture was off to the side somewhere, Trent pointed the camera at some point, I forget.

What was the song where he was doing that thing into the camera and it was doing waveforms or something of his mouth?

The people on camera could have at least looked a little excited. You know, maybe pumped a fist in the air instead of just having their arms lay down in front of them? Especially if they weren't being crushed by the crowd - no excuse for not boppin' around a bit if you can actually breathe!

The Greater Good.

well, i loved the show. i had a friend with me that isn't into the new stuff so i had to deal with him nagging about that. To all of you out there that have some issues with what you want to hear at a show i would like to just say that it is pretty fuckin hard to please everyone..... i think that trent is putting this show together the way he wants it to be seen. i have seen many shows in the past with alot of older songs and i am actually happy to see some new shit tonight.

If i sound harsh i dont mean to be, a show is a show the way the producer wants it to be.

The camera was toward the left side of the stage at the front of the pit. (maybe 5 people from the outside edge?)

I loved loved loved the show. I fucking hate the ACC for anything, and wish it'd been a different venue, but I was blown away by everything else.

I wish I'd taken my camera though. I made a last minute decision to skip the camera and just enjoy the show, which I now regret.
wow what can i say...

i had a great day.. the concert was amazing, i met some really cool folks, had a good meal before the show, discovered a great band thanks to flyers some guys were passing (deadly apples).. oh and deerhunter was cool too

hope trent comes back to toronto soon!

Holy CRAP! Tonight was awesome!! It almost made me sad listening to the studio albums on the way home tonight because they're so awesome live.
LOVED Robin! Oh my GOD he was AMAZING! I was sitting on the right side so he was directly in my line of sight. I saw when the guitar started fucking up and he flipped. I was wondering what he was about to do. They were all so entertaining and I loved each and every song. I noticed Trent wasn't hitting the high notes, and for obvious reasons, but he still nailed every song and was incredible.

I loved this arrangement of Hurt and Only. Incredible guitar intro to only. I hope they keep that. I don't think ANYONE could have prepared me for how amazing the Ghosts set was going to be! I was speechless and in awe. The section I was in was pretty cool, everyone was mellow for the mellow parts but the second the energy in the music ramped back up, so did everyone else.

Brought my camera, took SHITLOADS of pictures, but only 5% actually turned out....okay even. Got some video but I have no clue as to what it's like yet and it's 4:20 AM and I'm tired so I'll save video for another day :p I got tons more to say even...but alas, too tired. You can look at pictures here.

Also, nice to meet Swindley and ItsJustDave! Though it was only for a minute, you guys were super nice. Also, hi to the guy in line with my friend and I who chatted with us. We didn't get your name. AND a big FUCK YOU to the asshole who grabbed my ass when I was on my way out of the ACC after the show. Eat shit you mongoloid.

*sigh* and to end this post on a good note, one of the better pictures I took and also my favourite:

first let me say the band played great they were amazing.

now... WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ALL YOU TORONTONIANS?
probably the lamest crowd of people i have ever encountered. no one seemed to be into the show at all. i was on the rail and i could have taken a step back from it if i wanted to. no one was rocking out, and i didn't even have people pushing on me. their was just no energy on the floor and that really pissed me off. also, the volume needed to be turned way up for NIN. deerhunter was about twice as loud. during nin, i could hear people singing along the whole time and they were just as audible as trent. however, robin was amazing and so was trent. josh's drumming during piggy was also a highlight for me. as i said before, they put on a great show, it's just too bad that 95% of the people on the floor were little bitches.

one more thing...if your gonna clap to a song, at least do it in time. you stupid fucks almost ruined hurt.
Bricklayer
No words I type into this box can possibly describe just how worthwhile the entire evening truly was...

I saw NIN back in 2005, during their With Teeth tour...Even then, I told myself it was one of the best concerts I had ever been to, that NIN raise the bar completely...But then I was lucky enough to witness them for the 2nd time tonight, and I was in total fucking awe!

I brought my good friend who has never seen NIN live, but always endures my constant babbeling about them. Her mouth dropped open during Vessel, which had to be my favorite moment of the night...Perhaps because I was very stoned, but it was just in-fucking-CREDIBLE! The way they got behind that giant screen like that? How literally every beat of music was incorporate somehow...Just amazed me...Trent takes production very seriously...When other bands don't hardly give a shit, Trent makes sure his fans get every penny's worth...

The only thing that made me sad was some of the songs I wanted to hear, he didn't play...But you can't have everything I guess right? And also he was promoting the slip, so makes sense he would just focus on new stuff mostly....But still, got to hear the classic NIN hits...

Best moments:
Vessel..
Terrible Lie...AMAZING when everyone in the arena was screaming back the words..
ALL the instrumentals...
Robin Finck!! I was reading what other people were writing about him, I don't know what your all talking about? I thought he was killer! Aaron North just bored me, and slightly pissed me off? It's also been a while since Robin has toured with NIN, he is finding his "groove" again...

I was reading people picking out this and that about the show, how trent's voice wasnt all that great, that the sound was shitty, and robin was sloppy? Maybe it's just cause I fucking live, and breathe NIN..But I couldn't find one thing wrong with their performance? I think I noticed Trent's mic cut in and out at one point during a song, but that wasn't his fault? dumb asses at acc are responsbile for all the mis-haps...

But anyways, THEY NEED TO COME BACK SO I CAN SEE THEM AGAIN!
Bricklayer
I almost forgot to mention this...Does anyone remember when (I think it was Trent who was doing this, but im not sure) Had a flashlight, and was almost painting the stage white with it? Someone told me it wasnt Trent, eh...still really kool? Or before Echoplex started to play and he was hitting those circles? Reminded me of a screwed up game of 4 in a row...

got in line at about noon.
i ended up on the rail in front of robin. fuckin sweet spot. not too much crushing, great view of all the guys. and i got covered in robin water...which was totally cool because i was already soaked through to the bone anyway because of having to stand in the rain forever.

i haven't slept yet since being in ontario. i got in from victoria on monday night and have been on the go since.
i'm getting a little run down. i see the set list has already been posted, so i won't post it again i'll post more pictures after i've had a rest. sometime this week.
best show i've ever been to...but you could tell that trent was struggling a bit with his throat, especially when he spoke. but he still rocked.

probably the lamest crowd of people i have ever encountered. no one seemed to be into the show at all. i was on the rail and i could have taken a step back from it if i wanted to. no one was rocking out, and i didn't even have people pushing on me. their was just no energy on the floor and that really pissed me off. also, the volume needed to be turned way up for NIN. deerhunter was about twice as loud. during nin, i could hear people singing along the whole time and they were just as audible as trent. however, robin was amazing and so was trent. josh's drumming during piggy was also a highlight for me. as i said before, they put on a great show, it's just too bad that 95% of the people on the floor were little bitches.

one more thing...if your gonna clap to a song, at least do it in time. you stupid fucks almost ruined hurt.
you must have been at the opposite side from me, because the group in front of robin were rocking out hard.
Bricklayer
the concert was so good, i had shitty seats with weirdos in front of me tripping out and hitting us with nasty dreadlocks, but whatever. I thought the crowd was great, it was strange to see so many little kids there. i hope they come back and do smaller venues like the did for with teeth. and deer hunter was great, the guys accent was cute he sounded 8.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Absolutely outstanding in all respects. Every time I go, it's a different experience. Although I was subject to shitty, up-and-behind-the-screen seats during the WT tour, this made up for it as I was in section 104 (almost directly across the arena, a little off to the right). So, not as close as I'd have liked, but I got quite a good view of the screen.

VISUAL ORGASM.

The Greater Good was by far, for me, the graphical highlight. Waveforms interspersed with Trent's face. He looked terrifying.

Curious as to what was going on with the red button-pressing that just didn't seem to work a few times during Echoplex.

I kept away from setlists as I wanted to be surprised. And I was, more than a few times. Thoughts:

"(During the Frail) Oh, here it comes. Here it comes...YES, THE WRE...ok, Closer it is then."

"JESUS CHRIST ON A PONY THERE NEEDS TO BE A LIVE GHOSTS ALBUM."

"Are they covering Pink Floyd? No, they can't be. But it almost sounds like - oh, nevermind. New intro to Only. Cool."

"Ahh, so they're closing with Hurt agaOH SHI-"

I am more than satisfied with the setlist; although it seems like they're still making adjustments and figuring out what works (TR said as much, beginning of the tour and all); they managed to get what, a full half of Year Zero, 80% of The Slip in there amidst all the usuals? Felt like they played forever, and in a really good way too. It's a pleasure to see Robin again, he seems very on top of his game.

All the sounds from The Slip sounded absolutely brilliant live; what people once said about YKWYA? applies to much of the album: the studio versions are wonderful to listen to and all, but these songs are a million times better live.

As to the crowd...from where I was, it really seemed to be a mix of people standing still and nodding their heads politely, people thrashing about in front of their seat, such as I, and maybe the other third remaining seatbound. A lot of the crowd, however, seemed to get quiet during a few of the YZ songs like God Given...

Props to the hysterical-sounding lady nearby who screamed "I LOVE YOU TRENT!!!1!1!" at the top of her lungs during Hurt. You're awesome. >_>

As to the Hurt clapping, I admit I was irritated at first, but I caved and joined in. I've resigned myself to the fact that it's going to be happening every time from now on. The Hell happened to the timing though? Jesus.

I think this one needs a live DVD and CD. They've never sounded better.
Master of the Ninth Arch
My 9th NIN show last night, and the best ever!

31 songs, 2h15m long - this was the longest NIN show ever performed.

I was surprised to hear Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" playing last night. I didn't realize Trent was into Mariah.
Decaying Voice, it wasn't Mariah Carey's song, it was the original "sampled from" song that played.

I came all the way from Montréal to see this show and I must say, as somebody else did here before me, IT WAS THE LAMEST CROWD I HAVE EVER SEEN. The hand claps in Hurt were ridiculously out of time, people were just standing there doing nothing most of the time, almost nobody sang, in the "bow down" part of HLAH - I'm used to see hands in the air.... and some pricks managed to scream during Hurt as well.

The band did pretty good though and played around lots of technical problems; Trent was having a hard time with his voice, the volume wasn't high enough from the beginning until Closer, we couldn't hear the bass in some of the first songs like Head Down, there were problems with the "touch screen beatbox" for Echoplex (so the beat was a little different), Robin had lots of trouble with his guitar, he had to scream things to techs on the right of the stage and during The Big Comedown, he had to get off stage to get a "new" one...

The lighting was AMAZING, best light / screen show I've ever seen.

Highlights for me were Piggy, Terrible Lie, God Given, Good Soldier Survivalism and In This Twighlight.

So if they come to Ottawa, Montréal and/or Québec City, I'll be there again for sure.

Yeah, I'll second that! Maybe the left side was quiet? Who were the ones they filmed in the front row during Survivalism? They looked asleep! There was the lot of us from Trent to Robin in the front row who were really singing along and having a great time.

I thought those screens during Survivalism were entertaining to watch. This show I felt there was too much to look at. You certainly could go multiple times and always see things you haven't seen before.

Now I'm sitting here trying to figure out who some of you were heh. I got to meet so many great people but we rarely exchanged names.

Stellar. Absolutely stellar.

My only complaint is that after that ending, I can't get "So Long, Farewell" from the Sound of Music out of my head. All they needed to do complete the homage was for Trent to lie down in a fetal position on stage and have a burly roadie type pick him up and carry him off.

Oodles of fun. I think I'll quit my job and follow NIN around the continent. I want to see this show again and again.
Master of the Ninth Arch
great show. I spent my day in the "regular" ticket line up telling the nin.com presale ticket holders where to go to line up. arrived about 10:30 and there were four others in front of me. By 3:30 there was only about 20 of us. Lots more in the nin.com line up. They got wet from the rain, we were all covered. The search when we were let in was a bit extreme, but I got thru ok.

i wasn't on the rail so I can actually comment on the crowd, since I was about 5 rows back. It was quiet during the instrumental songs, and nuts during the rest of the songs. I was in front of Robin for most of show, but got pushed over to left closer to Trent during the show as people moved up.

Funniest were the girl/bald guy who pushed way up during the opening act and then fought with anyone else who tried to push them. Security had to stop one of the fights they had with a guy that I had pushed there way after he tried to get past me. I wasn't impressed by him turning around and just pushing his back into my back for about 2 min and then screaming in my ear, you wanna go back? fuck you.

show was great . amazing. i think NIN has found a way that they can keep moving forward in terms of other musical tastes/experiments.

thanks for posting all the photos and the vid of only looks great.

Wow, the lineup for GA sounds brutal. That's one of the reasons why I got a reserved seating (I could come at 7:15 and not be late) The checkup for the normal entrances seemed pretty thorough too, I saw a few people chucking away their umbrellas. Everyone was patted down and all forms of bags were systematically emptied...
unless you were small, asian, and non-threatening looking (I guess no piercings, spiky clothes, goth-ed out garb).
I didn't even get a pat down, my bag wasn't checked at all, I just stood there confused, while the guy said, yeah just go ahead.
I dunno if I should have felt offended or not.

My voice is still hoarse from screaming all night.

Did anyone see any posters for last night? I asked the people in the merch booth, and they said they never had any posters to begin with...

And does anyone have a transcript of what was said exactly during the show? The ACC muddles the fuck out of everything.

I am not small, nor asian, but I'm old enough to be considered non-threatening. I didn't get a pat down or bag check either, but I'm not offended. I consider it one of the perks of getting old.

I guess it really depended where you were. I was centre rail and got pushed constantly. Alot of the time I couldn't sing 'cause the air was being forced right outa me. Crowd surfers were coming in over my head rather regularly and a number of people had to be pulled out by security 'cause they were fainting / freaking out, whatever. Girls behind me got into a fight 'cause the one was trying to force her way to the front.

I hate to say this, 'cause it sounds like I'm blaming the band, but I don't think their energy was over the top either. Robin threw a couple of water bottles at us, but other than that, nothing. Trent kept his eyes closed for most of the concert, I think he just plain and simple isn't feeling great. He needs to rest and he's not getting it and I'm sorry, but when his energy's down, the crowd just doesn't respond the same; Nine Inch Nails is Trent Reznor.
Bricklayer
Nine inch Nails live was the greatest concert experience I have ever had the opportunity to see. Trent had the best visual effects that I have EVER seen at a concert before. There was this one part during Vessel, when I was completely stoned and I was just completely mesmerized. My mouth was just hanging open. Echoplex had a really good opening with the interactive visual where Josh Freese went and started hitting the circles on the screen to make a beat. The Greater Good was AMAZING I thought, especially with the slightly creepy visual of really close up video feeds of Trents face on stage. Hurt was absolutely a stunning experience live. At one point, right after I had smoked a bowl, they had the visuals look like they were on/in water with reeds in the background. I had to turn to vomitxheart and ask her if it looked to her like they were in water also. Hahaha. AMAZING. Simply amazing.
Bricklayer
Waiting at NIN.COM entrance in the buckets of rain = SUCKED BIG TIME

Getting let in earlier due to the rain = WAS GREAT

Deerhunter = WERE THEY EVEN ALIVE?

Trent & Company = FUCKING AMAZING CONCERT!!!!!

This by far the best I have seen them, I'm sure it would have been even better if Trent was 100% better. My fiance and I started out 4-5 back from the rail between Trent and Robin and it was crazy at times, so whoever the people are that said it was lame, you must have been in the wrong spot. We ended up almost in front of Trent and like 3 back close to the end of the show. ALOT of people smoking pot which personally is fine with me. Its those fucks who gets right drunk and wreck it. I had some asshole think it was a good idea to grab my hair and hold onto it for support, so to you fucker "DAMN RIGHT YOU DESERVED TO GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE BY ME!!!!". This was my fiance's first NIN show. He wasn't completely stoked about seeing them, but left saying "Besides Floyd, that was the most amazing concert I've seen, fucking amazing!!!!" My sister and her boyfriend were centered with the stage in seats and said from back there it was a fuckin masterpiece, the visuals were breathtaking. They took some amazing shots, I will try to post them when I get copies. WAHOO!!!! Come Back to Toronto (or anywhere in Ontario/Quebec) soon Trent!!!

Random comments;

1) Did not see a single ETS laminate. Was there from about 5pm onwards, in the fan presale line. I must have been wearing blinders. However, I could tell from a lot of the random crowd comments when things were said that they couldve only came from someone who posts here. A great example of this was end of the Frail (at least 3-4 different people I could hear were like "C'mon Wretched.. no Closer... cmon.. cmon... awwwwww" or the tech jokes with Josh and the Echoplex screen)

2) Highlights for me included Vessel, Ghosts & Ghosts Piggy, Terrible Lie, Head Down (after 3 viewings I thought last nights performance was finally leaps and bounds ahead of where this song was in rehearsal) and probably The Big Comedown. Robin's guitar solo at the beginning of Only = really cool. Also enjoyed Trent's creep walk on stage at the end of the Greater Good, and how he let his hand slip along the LCD before completely dissapearing. Did anyone confirm or deny if that was Rob with the camera? It didnt look like him to me, but who else could it have been?

3) Deerhunter were pretty good. Better than Crystal Castles, most certainly. Still not sure if their vibe makes them the best possible candidate to open a NIN show, but I guess that doesnt really matter if theyre good musicians.

4) Crowd was pretty dead. Which sort of worked in my benefit. But the clapping during Hurt is umm... yea, stupid. Honestly though I'm going to kinda blame Trent for that because when you start to get people clapping in previous songs, clueless people will assume its ok. Meh.

5) As great as this show was, I'm a bit cheesed. No special nugget or song that hadnt been played before on this tour. No Getting Smaller, No Down In It, No Meet Your Master... what the fuck? I really thought we would get treated to a little something special somewhere along the way last night, so it was slightly frustrating at the end of it all when I wanted to feel satisfied but I couldnt.

Did any ppl end up meeting up after?

I must have been at a different show.

The whole show was plagued by tech problems and I actually thought Trent looked embarassed to get any applause at the end of the show.

Supprisingly nobody mentioned that the visuals crashed during Vessel, and they had to go to backup lighting.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the show, but there were more issues...

Trent's voice started off bad, got better towards the middle of the show, and ended horrible. I felt for him, cause he was trying (hard). The third time I saw TR was during the outside tour (Bowie) in 95. I've never heard his voice better since. I realize that last night was different. I hope he gets over the problems soon.

The feedback at the end of Hurt was terrible.

The show started late, which meant that "down in it" was dropped to get them off stage by 11:00 (all shows must end by 11:00 at ACC, i think it is a T.O. bylaw). They started at ~8:52, and ended at 10:58, so no, the show wasn't 2:15, as stated previously.

The lighting tech('s) were too hesitant during Only, I saw the potentential for the visual to be great, it just wasn't.

If you are wondering how the flashlight thing worked PM me...the tech screwed up on that at one point as well.

On the bright side, the Survivalism screen was cool. I was laughing to myself because Only felt even more discoey, and I was dancing. Although Robin had guitar problems, I really enjoyed TBC. JMJ was singing along with Discipline (away from the mic). It made me laugh. The Warning just worked. I enjoyed Vessel more than I thought I ever could, even with the visual crash.

The look of pain on TR's face during ITT honestly made me surprised he made it through the song, and he deserves credit for that.

All in all, TR seemed to be forcing it, trying his hardest to do a good show, and I respect that, but I really don't think that he was up to it physically and mentally. And I base this on the looks that went between him and Robin and the look on his face when he went to the back of the stage during various songs.

With all that said, if his voice improves I'm driving down to Michigan in a few weeks, cause I'm a 13 year old fangirl in a 33 year old man's body.

Yeah, these were the ones who got in the fight with the girl behind me. Thanks again to Chelsea for taking the brunt of it and protecting my back. That nasty broad kept digging her elbows into me and trying to wedge herself onto the rail. I finally called security over - it was funny, at first he was yelling at me to suck it up, then after a minute he watched her, realized what she was doing and came back and reamed her - threatened to pull her out and she finally settled down.

Wearing white yesterday wasn't such a hot idea after all..Ah well.

The line was cool, people were well behaved..Funny at times though, for tryign to stay dry as long as they could before they just got SOAKED. My feet are still wet. The skinny little girl with the latex strip for a top and the latex miniskirt..Genius..I was going to wear the same outfit. I always love seeing the variety in a NIN crowd.

Chris, glad you got to see them, hope you made your bus last night.

The show..
NIN is never a let down..On their weakest night, it's still an amazing show. The set was great, we got to hear a lot of the new stuff, instead of the stuff that's been done quite a bit before. I even liked last nights March of the Pigs, which, I'm tired of hearing, but they brought it back well last night. The visuals were just amazing. I've never seen anything like it..Trent really does go above and beyond to put an entertaining show together. it won't always go off perfectly, but that's what you get live. I started up front, but decided to move back to take in all the visuals. I think I made the right choice. I'm not a big fan of the smokers and drunks, but, it wasn't too distracting in there. Seeing them play the Ghost songs, changing their instruments and all, just increidble. All in all, great..They just keep getting better. God I love hearing Big Come Down live..

Side note..I know it's the youtube age and all..But, Something MJK said at a Perfect Circle concert in Buffalo once..

"Everyone stop, and take a look at the person beside you, behind you..All around you. Take this all in. This is now, it's a moment that will never happen again, so look for it, watch it. See it. Feel it. Take it all in. Remember it in your mind..And put the fucking cameras away!!"

With each concert I go to now, I see more and more little blue screens poking u[ over the crowd..more people more focused on taking a little cell phone pic of this AMAZING visual show, this amazing assult in sound, something no cell phone could ever capture and do any justice to..Trust me people, put them down, and just watch and listen. Take it all in. Let your mind remember it, not some little static garbled light blur on a cell phone..I know what I paid to experience.

Wow! I can't believe how many people are saying the show was awesome! Easily the worst NIN show I've seen; and this was my 6th show...

I realize that part of my complaint is that I think his last 3 albums are shit, but even so that performance was very lackluster. It boring for the most part. The Slip and Ghost songs were utter shit, and same with Year Zero. And who the fuck wants to hear Hurt for the thousandth time...

Trent can only hide behind LED lights and gimmicky stage tricks for so long before he's gonna have to write some decent songs.

I'm sorry, but I think some of you wanted to love the show so much that you did, even if it's unwarranted.

I for one want my 80 bucks and evening back. At least Radiohead is coming up soon. They'll be my saving grace I'm sure.

How can you be so attached to old school NIN that you think the new stuff is shit, then say who wants to hear Hurt for the thousandth time???? If you don't wanna hear new stuff, what else is there but songs you've heard a thousand times??? Dolt.
The new music is fantastic. Get off the train, we're movin' on without you.

It's got nothing to do with NEW or OLD you moron -- it has to do with good song writing. Songs that have depth are aren't one dimensional. I'm not saying that he got worse as he got older, the Fragile is my favourite album, but it's beyond me how you can say this was a good show relative to his others.
Grand Pontiff
Toronto crowds retain their reputation for standing still and hardly moving. That was a very tame floor, except for the tambourine grab although that could have been a lot rougher as well.

Overall a good show as always, can't say it was the best nin performance Ive seen tho. Maybe the best light show (was a little too close to fully capture them), but yea, a big part was just a lack of crowd energy. *shrugs* I miss the club shows.

I have to agree. I thought this was by *far* the weakest, and most uninterested crowd I've ever encountered at a NIN concert. Usually our Toronto shows are quickly sold out and full of energy. This was definitely not the case last night. That's not to comment on the band's performance, which I thought was great (thankfully Robin is back).

That said, there were a few tech glitches that remain to be worked out, but that'll be taken care of soon enough, I'm sure.

i think the security check depended both on who you got and when you arrived. certainly at the beginning they were checking everyone/everywhere, but I expect that later on they realized they couldn't check every single person and still get the people into the show.

I have to admit, I was SHOCKED at how tame the floor was. But hey, I am not complaining. I'd rather enjoy the show full out from front than be pushed around and always wondering if I am going to be kicked in the head. I keep thinking back to the Fragility show when I was front row centre and I was ripped apart. I am glad those days are gone.

Lately, Toronto crowds have been quiet though. The last Mode show was serene too. (not the band, the crowd!) Weird. But because the crowd wasn't nutso does not mean that the show was bad.

I think the worst NIN show I saw was last tour at the Ampitheatre. Or maybe because it was my 4th show that tour maybe I had seen it enough or something. But this show was far more of a treat. I mean Trent may be getting over throat issues, but the guy still put on an incredible show.

I get the feeling that some people just don't like the trent that is more professional and willing to try new musical styles. I know I' ve read in some places that people get bored when they go into the Ghosts part.

I too, appreciate a more mature crowd..I like seeing them get into it...But, I've been to the ones where it's hard to breathe at times from the pressure, or then there is always the boot to the head, never fun, etc..

But each stage of NIN, I grow with it as well. I liked the rough 90's, and I've enjoyed the more mature 2000's. The Slip songs are all about raging again though..Loud, hard and fast. Musically. Lyrically, it still fits into his Year Zero bit.

As far as the Ghosts stuff, I was just loving that..To see them expand on what they usually do or play..Trent on the bells over there, and all his other noise makers, all the new instruments, it was just excellent seeing them play it live. I was there in the 90's, I got that out of my system, and I'll continue on this ride wherever Trent takes us.

It was a GREAT NIN show.

I have to agree. I thought this was by *far* the weakest, and most uninterested crowd I've ever encountered at a NIN concert. Usually our Toronto shows are quickly sold out and full of energy. This was definitely not the case last night.
I must step in here to offer a counterpoint ... just because people aren't bopping around in a pit; or jumping non-stop; or yelling out every lyric non-stop; or whatever the hell else you expect from non-lame crowds doesn't mean they are not "into the show" or interested.

I was fucking thrilled to be there, and was totally into it ... but in my own way - which was to stand-back, watch/listen and just enjoy it. So before we all judge the interest level of people based on how they are reacting, perhaps we should step back and recognize that everyone enjoys shows in different ways.

As for ticket sales, it did seem to be slower than usual, but as discussed at the show Swindley, we both agree there are likely various reasons for that (economy, Tuesday following a long-weekend in Canada that usually has people traveling, lack of label support for both concert and radio airplay, etc).

I know I go to shows to get bumped, elbowed, and shoved by sweaty teenagers who stink like wet dog and B.O. It's even better when they are belting out the lyrics louder than the singer.

Good times for sure!

What a pointless discussion. If someone wants to just stand there and enjoy the show, they can -- and they certainly shouldn't be called lame for doing it. Let's get fucking real here.

I agree. I think I've been to every NIN show in Toronto. I've done the pit/moshing, smoking up and getting drunk in the seats, the lousy Spiral pre-entrance where we were stuck in a couple of sections for a couple of hours with the concert being "dry" etc etc.

This time, I just wanted to stand infront of my seat and have a couple of beers just enjoying watching the show.

I had this person right behind me horribly singing each and every lyric. I came to hear Trent sing, not him. I should've told him to shut up as it was annoying, but I just tuned him out instead.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be like that or not. You just confirmed my doubts.

So, I guess the upper left and right corners of the front screen weren't working properly last night (flashlight part, echoplex and at the end of another song I can't remember...)
you said it. a ticket would of costed me 88 or 77 bucks (two price levels) and gas from were i live these days to toronto is probably close to 30 bucks and parking is at least 15 or so.

so thats like 120/130 bucks without even getting a beer yet!!! :S i cant afford that right now...

plus the last couple nin albums are sorta blah for me..

oh well... hope all that went enjoyed!

toronto crowds are known for being very reserved for the most part. that being said everyone in the seats were up for the majority of the show, even the 'ghost' portions which suprised me. back in may when the cure played the acc, the crowd was stiff as a board until a popular single was played.

i no longer enjoy the general admission areas on the floor. i prefer to enjoy the show without being a big sweaty mess and dealing with a bunch of drunk or high mall goths. back in the day i'd be lined up to be first in the venue and against the barrier, i even caught the keyboard that trent tossed into the audience back in 94 at the gardens show.
we used to skip school and camp outside the concert hall all day in the freezing cold to make sure we'd be at the front, dead centre.

these days i prefer to sit back with a beer and take in the whole show and last nights show was so visual, you didn't want to miss anything.

If it's any consolation, I've had the same thing happen to me, and I did tell him not to add his own soundtrack to the concert, and he just said "Sorry that's just the way it is" or something to that effect, maybe he even started singing louder after I told him to stop. He wasn't just singing along, he was ad libbing most of it (eg. yeah motherfucking pig yeah! I'd let you control me trent! WOooOWOowoowOOWo).

As for people mentioning crowd "lameness, "I was at the Foo Fighters show at the ACC, and people were mostly sitting for any of the slows songs or even the non-singles in that set, NIN by comparison did very well.

I'm used to Toronto being towards the middle or end run of a tour, so having a technical-difficultied/unpolished show was a bit of a novelty. Having it in the ACC didn't help matters much. Despite all that though, the show was still very entertaining and a nice change. I will admit though that the cirque visuals at times were a bit too good in a kind of distracting way, maybe they'll work out how to better incorporate them around the set in future shows.

Jeeeeeeeeez, why didn't I take the day off work today... I feel dead.

Uhh, good show for the most part. I'd agree with most people saying that the crowd was just tame, not lame. There's nothing wrong with that. I opted for seats from the presale because I'm nursing a broken toe, but looking back I could have hobbled around the pit without much hassle. The seats I got were fucking terrible, too. I was about 30 feet from the band; but completely perpendicular to the stage, which made all of the visuals near unwatchable.

Still, it was entertaining. I felt really bad for Trents vocal chords, he just got progressively hoarser and hoarser. I felt like shouting 'IT'S OKAY MAN, JUST HUM. WE DON'T CARE.' However he did do surprisingly well on ITT.

1,000,000 rocked my fucking cock off. He came out with so much energy it was unbelievable - I thought the stage might collapse due to too much AWESOMENESS.

2 Ghosts I was a tad shitty. Robin's guitar was way too quiet and I couldn't hear Alessandro at all. The other Ghosts material made up for it... but I was sad at the exclusion of 1 Ghosts I.

Vessel and The Warning were both kickass. The Greater Good creeped me the fuck out, despite not being able to see the screen.

Etc etc.

I was at their last Toronto show at the Molson Amphitheatre, and I daresay I enjoyed this show more. It was more intimate, but still maintained a powerful presence throughout.

Fun times.

PS: I'm disappointed that I didn't get to meet any of you crazy ETS people. Maybe next time we should actually arrange a meet up. Or whatever.

First in line at pre-sale line (A girl was already sleeping at the regular entrance), didn't have a clue where the fucking 4b would be (turned out to be on the south side, where you could be exposed to either the sun in all it's 33 degrees splendor or the fucking rain. Oh well.

Then, got between Trent and Robin. People saying it was a wild place are right. I was actually suprised to find that my body had a 3rd dimension still by the end of the show. Felt like I was being dry-fucked most of the show (which is ironic seeing as how drenched we all were)

Got the tallest of security guys in my face, directly between me and Trent...grr! During the show, crowd converged, got close somehow to center, just in time for Ghosts, where Trent got to right side....just behind the same fucking security guy.

By HLaH, my voice was already calling it a day so i'm one of those who didn't sing (well, a little, yes) during the chorus.

3 people actually asked to be removed from the pit in my area : one guy was about to simply pass out, his girlfriend (or his friend who is also a girl) and some other girl (I think). I also counted at least 10 body surfers in my area alone who made it to the front.

PROS : Head Down, all Ghosts (I so wanted to hear 31 Ghosts IV!!!), The Warning/Vessel part, In this Twilight - I agree : best ending ever and the cute girl in lineup who was simply and utterly charming.

CONS : The Rain. "Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day" should have been applied. I feared for my cellphone and my camera, but they got through fine. My camera taking videos but NO SOUND (found out after the show). The off-beatclapping during Hurt.

Wow... I'm currently at work and need to give my take on this concert.

My first NIN show was the Nov 10 2005 show at the ACC (the first With Teeth Arena tour show in Toronto), which I thought was technically excellent - the screens during Eraser/RWIB/BYIT, the curtain things during Love is Not Enough, the lights, the design of the stage was fantastic. The performance was cool, although your excitement is deflated considerably when you've seen the setlist beforehand and know where the show is going (which was the case with me).

My second NIN show was the Molson Amphitheatre show the next summer, which was awesome from an energy standpoint - Trent and the band were really relaxed, songs like Down in It and Head Like A Hole and Suck were bleeding energy. Josh Freese was totally kicking ass and taking names (unlike that Australian replacement guy), Alessandro was jumping on his keyboards, Jeordie was moving around more, Aaron and Trent were running around everywhere - they had so much energy and power.

For me, last night's show was like those two shows combined. The songs from the Slip translated incredibly well live - 1,000,000 was fucking awesome, Letting You kicked ass. Discipline and Head Down were also great.

The songs from Year Zero also came out well - the new take on The Warning was cool, making the song a lot more ominous and atmospheric than it was on the album. Vessel also kicked ass. The Greater Good was creepy too, with Trent's face and those cloud/bacteria things.

A few comments about the crowd. I had GA tickets and stood all the way on the left, a few meters in front of Justin, and last night's GA crowd is THE BEST GA CROWD I have experienced in all of the concerts I have been to so far. I did not have to deal with any asshole latecomers pushing and shoving past me to get to the front; I did not have to deal with any stupid moshing assholes distracting me from the show. I went to see Tool last year in Hamilton, with GA tickets, and it was totally ruined because of the hundreds of retards with fetal alcohol syndrome or herpes or something taking their shirts off and charging into you - I did not have that problem last night. A big thank you to the GA crowd in my area for being mature and respectful. (Speaking of GA, I had the fortune of being on that camera during Survivalism... it was cool but too distracting! I missed bits of the song trying to see myself on it :P)

What else - Piggy was great (it was good to see the AATCHB guitar solo making an appearance, and Josh's drumming ripped it up); Only was cool (the intro threw me off), with the screen and the lights that would turn off as Trent came near them. Head Like A Hole and The Hand That Feeds were great as always. My only qualm with the show is that Robin's guitar could have been turned up slightly - he was hard to hear in our area of the pit.

With regard to what Swindley said about the crowd being lame and not into the show, and what somebody else said about that not necessarily being the case - last night's show was a different kind of treat for NIN fans. If you came out to see March of the Pigs or Closer or Gave Up, sure, you got that - but you also got three songs from Ghosts (5, 6, 19) and two of the most evil atmospheric songs from Year Zero (Vessel, The Warning). Those aren't the kinds of songs you can really jump around to. If somebody is not jumping around, it doesn't mean they're not enjoying it. 5 Ghosts I was cool; I'm not that big of a fan of 6 Ghosts I, but they changed it up in some interesting ways (Josh with the kettle drums was cool). 19 Ghosts III was also cool. Later on, 31 Ghosts IV was played - as I recall there was a guitar solo in there which was different from that crazy Belew thing on the album.

Which brings me to the encore. Absolutely beautiful - it was incredibly cool to see Josh program the drum machine for Echoplex using the huge squares on the screen and later turn the drums off, beat by beat... God Given was fantastic (Trent's guitar solo was cool and Robin's "we'd never tell you anything that..." was nice too - did anybody else notice Trent using a Parker guitar? I wonder if Adrian Belew had anything to do with that :D). The Good Soldier was tight, and Hurt was awesome.

I think the best part of the show was In This Twilight - translated well live, and the way they ended it (first Robin waving goodbye, then Josh, then Justin, then Alessandro, and finally Trent) was just beautiful. The band in its current form is incredibly tight.

My hat is off to Trent - last night was something incredibly special. He could go the way of Maynard and co. and play the same songs with the same tired visuals that were used on the last tour, but he chose not to, and for that I have a huge amount of respect. The band was energized, the stage and the technical aspects were amazing - a perfect night.

Great pics! Trent was having so much fun up there on stage playing with all that technology. The way he was motioning his hands above his head, and I even saw smiles. That's one of my fav moments from the show.

Also, I could have sworn Robin was running around like a madman looking for his guitar during Echoplex. It was almost comical seeing him dart around trying to get it.

Great show, I was hoping we would get a rare song thrown in there but I love all the effect they put into the show with The Greater Good being real cool.

Happy to have Robin back in the band hes way more into it than Aaron IMO.

Highlight for me was Hurt and In This Twilight when the band left the stage one at a time and Trent really seemed like he was having fun that night.

Was looking forward to seeing NIN, been a fan of the band since Pretty Hate Machine, have it on vinyl somewhere. This was my first time at a NIN concert. My friend who was supposed to come with me was unable and I was unsure about going by myself. I’ve been to many concerts over the years. My first concert was back in 1977-78 and I went and saw Triumph, my musical taste have changed over the years, but I’ve never gone alone to a concert before (hope I don’t go blind or grow hair on my hands).

Anyhow, I sold the second ticket and drank beer with the money, which really did little for my mood. The rain was a pain; I felt out of place, I am old enough to be a father at least half of the audience, well at least it seemed that way on the floor. Not to mention I was by myself in a sea of people.

The first band came on and I listen to part of the first song and went back to the bar for more beer. By this time I had drank about 4-5 Carlsberg beers and a few Heinekens and was thinking that this should be better than watching Beside You In Time on the TV, well at least my neighbor’s would be happy not hearing or feeling the deep bass, darn sub-woofer!

Anyway, I figured that the warm up band should almost be done and I better make my way into the crowd. I was right; it was their last song, which seemed rather good. While waiting for NIN to come on I met a younger woman (early 30’s!!) and we began to talk about the band and other things in common. At this point I was unaware that I was rather close to the front of the stage; well so to speak, maybe at the front ¼ of the floor. Next thing I know the lights are on and the band is playing and I have no clue where that woman is, I was about 6-8 people from the front of the stage, right between Trent and Robin. I believe you can see part of my face in the above picture funny enough.

Despite the heat, smell (other people’s BO), that sweet smoke which I wish I had, and that girl landing on my head; it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Alright sound for a hall at least better than the Gardens from what I can remember, really, really, I mean exceedingly great light show, and I really could not ask for a better spot. Mind you, it seem to me that I was moved about by the crowd, so I was not really in one spot but rather one area (about 6-8 people from the front of the stage, right between Trent and Robin). I’m rather glad that it was tame. I could never figure out why some fellows at concerts take off their shirts and run into each other going in a circular motion, why? Where do they get the energy, don’t they have jobs?

I was not familiar with the songs from Year Zero and The Slip; in fact it was the first time for me hearing anything from The Slip. It was all good, no it was great!! I’m a little to old to be jumping around and at my tonnage, me landing on your feet would be criminal. However, I can assure everyone that I was 110% into the concert. Allow me to reiterate, it was great fornicating concert!

I am astounded that anyone could have come away from last night's show disappointed. What I saw was the realization of a man in his artistic prime - vital, powerful, fully engaged - utilizing the technology of his time spectacularly, surrounded by musicians at the top of their game. I was dazzled.

The 90's are over. Check your preconceptions and biases at the door. Feast on NIN 2008 - it's decadent and delicious!

For the record, I did point out the problems with Vessel's effects on the first page of this thread...

I think there's a happy balance between a crowd that's totally dead and the proverbial "group of shirtless drunken hooligans running into each other and knocking people over." Nobody is arguing that we wanted to see the latter, some of us are just saying that things were too close to the former, or at least a bit tamer than we expected. The section between Trent and Robin in the crowd near the front seemed pretty nice, but - from what I saw in the stands - the rest of the crowd seemed surprisingly inactive. That's not really a complaint, just an observation.

Hopefully I'll get GA tickets for the next TO visit and will be down there to mix it up a bit! :D

Also, with reference to not getting checked by security - I arrived kinda late (around 7), but my friend and I came fairly straight from work and we didn't get patted down or checked by security at all. Maybe wearing tucked-in dress shirts is the way to go if you don't like security getting their mitts all over your business?

Werd. I missed that. So that makes 3 of us that thought it odd.

When it happened and the first light shined on TR's face there was no reaction, but when the light came up on Robin's face he looked pissed, and then he stared at TR for the rest of the performance. As the song went on he looked surprised that TR didn't throw a fit.

Haha, yeah, at first I was half expecting a fit to be thrown, but I'm glad that he didn't and just continued with the song. Fits are for afterwards, not during the show when it compromises things for the audience. I was too far away to make out facial expressions, myself.
Those of you who noted a problem with Vessel's effects, can you elaborate on that? I myself was too far back to notice anything but I'm awfully curious now.

The video screen behind them cut out earlier than it seemed it was supposed to - it just cut to black abruptly near the end of the song. Then after a few moments of darkness three lights came on from in front of them to illuminate the keyboardists for the rest of the song.
Master of the Ninth Arch
It would have been nice to see the end of Vessel's lighting effects, it really got crazy towards the end. Yeah, I noticed the strange back to basic lighting move too, but I forgot about it afterwards, it didn't spoil anything much.

Yeah, Robin's side rocked !!

I too was right in front of Robin the entire set, along with a group of 4 other friends and we were ALL rocking the fuck out the entire set! It was DEFINITELY the most fun I've had at a NIN show out of the 6 times I'd seen them. Our area of the crowd was just loving every minute of it. I was screaming the lyrics the entire show. Appreciated the nice break with the instrumentals for a breather. But I have to admit the older tracks definitely caused the most havoc! First five songs of the set were just a blur and it definitely didn't seem like they played two hours! Can't wait for the next show, better start saving.

Picked up the white ghosts tee, awesomeness. 80 bones for the jacket! WTF!!! and 70 for the hoodie. jesus. that's paying god damn admission for just a shirt. prices are getting regoddamndiculous, and NO POSTERS? say wha! good thing we have the free pdf's for those. all in all, awesome time! never seizes to impress, hence the addiction to the awesomeness known as NIN live!

next show will involve seating, and mushrooms haha!

Yes, the "you fucking promised me" isn't on the album version, but he's thrown that in for the past several tours (see AATCHB; BYIT performances).

I'm only back to my computer now after staying overnight and then driving back into New York and going straight to work. But had a great time -- truly awesome folks on the floor in front of Finck, and a special thanks to the Spiraler who sold me her extra presale GA ticket!

I'll be random girl this late in the game. But first I'll throw in an extra fuck you to the ACC staff for making us stand out in the torrential downpour. (I *sincerely* hope it wasn't the band, not wanting us inside where For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen we might hear teh soundcheck betters.) Once we were inside in the hallway that became the sauna, I watched one guy take off his shoes and then take off his socks, which he then wrung out as if they'd been sitting in a sink full of water. Ugh. I'm sure we all looked purty down there on the rail. I got to my hotel room and laughed -- looked like I'd put my finger in a light socket. *poof hair*

Anyways...

-- Alessandro's voice is beautiful on Vessel.

-- Finck did this possessed crouch-hop thing that's awesome. I can't wait to see if he does it again/on a regular basis.

-- Reznor threw this into the security pit at the end of the song. I'm not sure if it was pure premeditated drama or not (before that, he picked it up and moved it across the stage closer to Rob in the pit, so he could get better photos), but hey, I loved it no matter what. :) (Anyone remember what song it was?)
Image

-- Being up close to the stage is so worth it to watch the Ghosts segment of the show. Watching those guys play the various instruments was fascinating (Finck on a wind instrument!). It may sound silly, but it makes it *real* just how vastly talented these guys all are. The xylophone was right in front of me, and it is as cool as everyone has said --- and being up close to see the detail of the mallets' movement and Reznor's concentration was well worth potential bruises.

-- Deerhunter. Wow. Didn't expect that. :) I'm curious, though, if their stage presence will improve down the road.

-- Saw a cute little sportscar with Michigan tags this morning on the QEW with an awesome NIN front plate. Very fancy -- just a big NIN symbol where the plate would go, in what looked like a very heavy matte metal. If only New York didn't require two plates (and I knew where to find one)...

Call me crazy, but when each member left on In This Twilight, one by one, and Trent finished the show alone with a few final notes on the piano, did anyone else notice they were a very slowed down version of the piano in Zero-Sum?
Master of the Ninth Arch
Absolutely loved the show. Best out of 3 for me, by far. The visuals were mind-blowing. I raced back to Montreal this morning in order to catch Radiohead tonight, and their visuals were quite paltry in comparison.

Highlight for me: The Big Comedown, Ghosts 31, Wish, Terrible Lie, the interactive visuals, the t-shirt I bought,

lowlight: price for food at the ACC, wandering around Toronto until 5 fucking am waiting for the train station to re-open, having a drunk loser in front of me hassle everyone around him during the show (section 122, row 20, seat 3).

Overall though, what a fan-fucking-tastic evening, and I hope they come to Montreal sometime soon...

Yes I did notice that. In fact, I got video of those exact last few moments that you describe in your post.

Well, that NIN tour easily has the best visuals I've ever seen live. Radiohead's visuals were definitely great though, just more simple. Overall, both shows were awesome!

I loved the show, even though there were a lot of technical difficulties. Fantastic light setup, best live incarnation of NIN ever. The drive back to Montreal was a nightmare though, it rained all night long.

Whoa. That show was FUCKIN AWESOME. I got there after deerhunter, got soooo lost running around trying to find my pre-sale tickets. I got into the pit rite as 999,999 was ending and by MOTP i was 4-5 people from the front rail. I was rite there in solareyes video for Only, somewhere neer the chick with pink hair that kept trying to push past me [sorry about your luck ;)].
On the topic of only, i think i'm the only person who loved aaron norths intro. I think aaron was awesome and better for a couple songs, but fink rules all. The Rez was sounding prime but he wasnt even attempting all the high notes. JMJ = amazing. Alexandro stands in the dark for the most part. Freeze is a nut.
Visuals in the pit were amazing although i was too close to really get the whole view of things.
I talked to a few ETS peeps around in the pit, everyone of which said 'we better get the wretched' and then we all lost it when we didn't.. oh well!
Setlist was great but we missed out on The Great Destroyer, pissed about that one..
The pit was pathetic, everyone but my 2 buddies and I were litterally standing there giving us dirty looks when we pushed up - if you dont like it, get seats next time :). The only time they we're pushing was during MOTP and a bit in survivalism. I saw the dude chillin at the bar with his arms and tryed my fucking hardest to get up there and stir up some shit on the camera but muscular part of the crowd wouldnt give up..

All in all, fuck i hate life after NIN rolls out of town...

pushing around to the music is one thing, and no, I don't mind it one bit, its the pit at a nails show. of course it's going to get rough at points. that's the whole fun of it all. But at points I had to turn around and push a few dicks back from basically crushing a friend of mine, who was a bit shorter than everyone and a chick. Understand that there are moments where it's acceptable, and some that aren't. Reaching over the smaller people and towering over them and crushing them, will obviously get you some looks, and some retaliation. Not to say this was you. Point is, that if you want to get rough, don't be surprised about people getting a bit annoyed over SOME of the stupidity, and doing something about it. For the most part in front of the Sfinkster everyone was loving every minute of it.

Somehow I don't understand how some people think they can squeeze through everyone and make it up on the rail. There was no god damn chance in hell I was letting anyone get closer than me after waiting since 8 am, and then getting drenched. People should get the point after receiving elbows and knees to prevent them from taking my spot and just fuck off after the first 15 minutes of that bullshit. That one chick got the hint finally and gave up and got security to take her out. Nothing personal to the girl, if it had of been anyone else, they'd be getting the same treatment. Working your way through the pit to make it a few people back from the rail is one thing, but thinking you can just waltz up and get a spot on the rail itself. I don't think the people up there are that generous, and have waited a good long while to get where they are for a reason.

Anyways, ranting done. I don't think it was Trent doing the swiping of the screen. Looked like a tech dude.

The dude I met from LA up at the front of the nin.com lineup, before we got put out from underneath the covering. I was the guy from Ottawa talkin to you about all the NIN shows, and that Queens show you went to with the surprise Garcia appearance. Drop me a PM man, you're a good lad! Too bad you ended up on the left side of the stage rather than over in front of Fink with us. Hope you enjoyed your first Canadian visit, regardless of all the crazy stories about people getting beat with hammers and losing their heads and being eaten. That shit just doesn't happen and I'm as shocked as anyone that Canadians are the ones involved.

You sir are nothing short of being my hero.

On tuesday, I went up to Toronto with very little money and no ticket hoping that I might be able to buy a cheap nosebleed at the very last second off a scalper. That was my only possible way of seeing them, and I figured it was worth it to come up and risk not even getting in, just for the opportunity.

I then decide to dick around on my school's computers (Ryerson) and check some other forums I visit regularily. All of a sudden I get a message from a saint, I can't remember if she posts on here as Miss.Selfdestrust or fallchild or what, but she sent me this man's post explaining that he had an extra ticket. I called him, and this man was kind enough to give me a free floor ticket for the show.

I still feel like the luckiest man alive.

The show itself was amazing. One of the best shows I've ever been to, the light show basically rivaled what I saw with Daft Punk and that says a lot. I do wish the set had a bit more room for some The Fragile stuff, but honestly that's my only complaint, and it's a minor one at that, as the other song choices were great. The only 2 songs I couldn't get in to were Discipline and Only, they still don't do anything for me :(

Either way, amazing show, amazing pictures everyone. I don't know what I could say that hasn't already been said. It was great meeting anyone and everyone there that night. If you saw me there, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM or reply to say hi!

Exactly. When the e-mail said we could pick up the tickets at 3, I was really hoping we'd get let in for the soundcheck. I finally went inside and started giving them a hard time, demanding to know why they were keeping us out here in the rain and why don't they just let us the fuck in. I'm afraid I was low on the charm, I was just so pissed off, I was demanding he go get his supervisor. He just kept saying it wasn't up to them, it was the band. Hmmm.

Stop making fun of my city! Really though, if it is a fastest dying city (and here I thought it was already dead) what's more truthful is that instead of a city Buffalo is a region.

I don't think Nails will be hitting Buffalo. Most buffalonians, like myself, would either go to Toronto or possibly Cleveland if they really wanted to go, and there aren't enough Nails fans to fill up HSBC I don't think. Maybe they could get 8-9 thousand, but HSBC concert wise can hold almost double that.

If they wanted to play smaller venues though they could play Rochester like they did for WT.

^^ I would go to Buffalo, but probably not through Toronto first! (kind of a detour)

We had so much fun in Toronto. Both my kids came with me, and it was the older one's first NIN show. Next morning she gets up: 'Ow'. Me: 'What'. Her: 'my neck HURTS'. Me: 'were you headbanging'. Her: 'uh, maaybe'. Hehehe. The power of NIN takes overtakes everyone.

One of my favorites live was Letting You (and I knew it would be since it was one of my favorites on The Slip). Finally getting to hear YZ tracks live, esp. The Good Soldier.

We were in a great location - section 109, and could see way better than at Lolla where we were practically up against the next person's back. Here we could take in the visuals, and actually see band members. Also, from the side you could see how much scurrying around there is behind the scenes as screens are going up and down. After being at Lolla, about 10 feet back from the soundboard on the left, I found myself looking down at GA in Toronto and wishing I was down in there!

One thing I noticed, is how CLEAN the NIN stage is. Almost minimalistic (despite the big screens). Rather than guitars and stuff all over the stage, techs seemed to be running up and down stairs to hand people stuff, or slip in from the back.

Also, I am so amazed at the versatility of everyone. I mean, Trent you kind of expect to be able to play anything, but to see him on the marimba, AND it being something you want to listen to, is pretty cool. Justin on upright bass? Robin on RECORDER (I think?) Josh on something other than drums? Alessandro in the shadows looking like a mad scientist. It is clear by the complexity of the sound, these guys can fucking PLAY, and they're very focused on the craft. The Ghosts tracks they played are not rock - they sound to me like some kind of avant-garde thing, though perhaps you can't even categorize what Trent is up to. He is his own genre. Or world.

Now I must wait for Philly (and am lucky enough to have at least one more NIN show in my future).

Swindley's comment was more than likely for my benefit. For various reasons I've missed both Buffalo NIN shows (1994 and 2000) and we've both been surprised by the lack of a Buffalo date since.
clarification, if someone will:
there seems to be this idea that if you are at a show you need to be outwardly showing your enjoyment.
i think someone from the uncasville show even said "at least sing along".
i didn't dance at the toronto show. i am not much of a dancer, and sitting where i was meant even if i attempted to dance i would of ended up tumbling down a very large flight of concrete steps. sure, that could have been amusing to watch, but not fun to experience.
so i sang along. i usually don't do that either, but i couldn't not sing along.
and then i see at least three people from the toronto show bitching about people singing along.
seriously, if someone is going to pay close to hundred dollars to go see a band (free tickets from casinos excluded) then that in itself shows, or should show, that they WANT TO HEAR AND SEE THE BAND.
how does dancing/moshing/screaming/wetting your pants equal a true experience as compared to sitting or standing quietly and enrapt? someone even said "zombies". to be fair i can see how being on the floor and not dancing would seem odd. yet it still doesn't mean you have to or you aren't totally loving the show as much as the person who is swinging from the barrier like a fucking monkey on acid.
stop trashing others methods of enjoyment and concentrate on your own.
i fail to see how any of you could of or should have noticed anyone else's reactions or lack of if you were truly into the show. you shouldn't have been noticing.
anyway, after reading all of the tour journals so far, and having been at the toronto show, i have to say it is none of your business how people express themselves, or don't, at a show. mind you own business, mind your own experience.

oh, and dear mods: beat me with a parcel of wet noodles if this is not the appropriate place to put this.

If this board had karma points, I'd go all in right now. Well said!

Although I might add that when one's enjoyment trashes another's, that's a diff matter.

That show was awesome and I can't wait for them to come back around. I'm really interested in a bootleg of the show so I can listen to it at work. If anyone could hook me up with a link it would be much appreciated.

alright, almost done all the mastering and such so that it sounds a bit more loud/clear. I have to head in to work now, and from the looks of it, I might be heading out for a bit after work now. So I'm now pushing the upload time to some time really early this morning/late at night. Around 5 AM I hope

My take:

I thoroughly agree with you, but to clarify, for me the difference is going to see a show vs. being part of an experience.

TR and the boys put on a show. It was meant to be consumed.

To see what an experience is, I suggest watching "Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That!" It shows, in great detail, thousands of people in MSG having an experience (and one pissed off Asian dude).

Experiences are amazing, and I've had a few of them, but they are rare. Usually the artist is a lot more engaged with the audience than TR was on Tuesday night (or, it seems, at all on this tour).

Also, for me, an experience occurs when I least expect it, and I just want to sit and watch a show. Or when I'm cold, wet, tired, etc... and the next thing I know I've lost myself in the moment. What I'm trying to say is that you can't force it, like those that have posted on previous pages seem to be trying to do with their criticism.

I'm still loving what I saw on Tuesday night though.

I agree with you for the most part, except for the bolded part.

Its all good when Trent encourges it but they guy beside/behind me singing along (no matter how shitty he was or not) to practically everything Trent sang was quite annoying and takes my ability away to enjoy and hear the show. Once again, I paid to hear Trent sing not him or anyone else.

But that shit happens at concerts, one just has to deal with it.
Master of the Ninth Arch
Yeah, the guy singing beside me was just plain obnoxious. I don't mind people singing along usually, it's okay. Hell, I sing along too, but there's a difference between singing along and drunkenly bellowing out your own soundtrack for the night.

It's the same as watching a film in the theatres somewhat. You paid for your ticket to enjoy the movie, and someone paid for their's. The occasional audience gasping and laughing together is fine, but if there's some asshole in the seat beside you talking loudly or reciting lines before they're said during the movie, it needlessly ruins the experience for others.

The Dime bootleg of the show's pretty good from what I heard so far! But it's not substitute for that night... I hope a DVD comes out.

Um... sorry to ask again, but did anyone look in to the whole washroom thing at all yet? I'm half tempted to dress like a dude and go back to the acc myself. I mean, they did hide things in a washroom before, and tickets in a graveyard...

Yeah your totally rite, but when I'm 3 or 4 people back from the rail and getting dirty looks and bitchy people cause i'm jumping around and bein' rowdy, like, fuck off. I understand if your in seats or even back a bit in the pit, but come on, if you dont like dealing with that shit, then dont stand at the rail.
Thats my comment on sings off key's little rant too. If you go to watch the visuals and outwardly just chill, I've got nothing at all agaisnt that I would be doing it if i saw this tour agian.
But if you go to the pit and get right up front, your going to have to deal with the fans who want to do their thang.

And as for the talk of a Buffalo trek, as long as you arnt retarded like the people i got a hotel with for the Toronto gig, TOTALLY DOWN!!
Getting together with strangers I met ogff the internet to share a hotel room with them in another country? What could go wrong!

Im down. That show was FANTASTIC! 100% amazing. By far, the best arena tour NIN has done since 05.

I think there could also be a new wave of fans who simply got into NIN over Rock Band, seeing as quite a few of the NIN songs released for it are more on the catchier side than the raw.

I was actually impressed from where I was, I was near the front in the first row of seats on the left side, and everyone in the same row as me was standing up, jumping around, and during Gave Up we were all punching the rail in front of us and kicking the floor. I'm sure we might have even made a pit if there was enough room. XD

It was also a surreal feeling during the middle of the set, since this tour seems to have the Fragility sense where everything is fast paced and heavy until the middle, where the crowd becomes incredibly mellow and entranced by visuals and soft atmospheric music after Gave Up all the way up to the inevitable onslaught of Wish.

Just a few long observations. :P

I think most people have been talking about the activity (or lack thereof) on the floor, not in the seats.

And the With Teeth tours also had a "mellow video moment" in the middle with Right Where It Belongs and Beside You In Time, so I'm not sure we can really call that "the Fragility sense". It's been in the formula for quite a while now.

Sigh, I'm such a nit-picker.

Thanks Chris..Can't wait to listen to it!

Side note..since coming home, it's just been a constant battle..My feet were soaked the entire way home. Driving with no shoes on seems odd to me for some reason. I had work at 7am, so I was forced to stop in at Walmart and buy new shoes since they were the only place open at 7am..Put my boots outside to air dry while gone, came home, still weren't dry. Put them back out, forgot about them..They got rained on. Brought them in, wore the uncomfortable new shoes a few more days..Last night my cat decided to spill his entire water bowl onto them..he knocked the bowl off the table, and of course, my boots had to be right there..So, I put them outside to dry again, and fell asleep..Brought them back in when I woke up an hour ago, it's been raining all evening..I can't win. Nor can I get my feet dry.

Karma indeed.
Master of the Ninth Arch
for the record, my ribs are still sore from the rocking out.... which is fine. problem was that as soon as I started to get into a song, a few guys saw that as an opportunity to push their elbows into my ribs and try to get in front of me .... on the floor. I'm ok with girls going in front of me, I let about 5 move in front of me and I started in the second row and finished about 4th row centre after being 2/3rd row right. Hated the singers, stfu and experience it another way. Moshing is ok .... crowd surfing is ok --- is the person that I punched in the kidney's here ??

Sorry about that, I wasn't really clear enough, I know that they've used that formula at almost every show, but I lickened this to the Fragile in the sense that it was more mellow. The section in With Teeth started with Eraser and when it did slow down was quite quick since Beside You In Time picks itself up pretty fast at the end.

I also think Ghosts probably slowed the crowd down a bit too. Don't get me wrong though the Ghosts section was beautiful and really cool to see.

No need to apologize. :)
Despite its heavier moments, I still think that the live Eraser with video accompanyment is a passive experience overall, so the With Teeth "movie break" had a mellow vibe for me as well. Just differences of opinion.

On a related note, I think one of the reasons I didn't like this show as much as my previous NIN experiences was that - despite the band sounding relatively good and the lighting and effects all being really cool - there didn't seem to be much of a point to all of the spectacle. A lot of the images used in previous tours were really poignant, but I didn't get that sense this time around. A lot of the stuff, while really cool, seemed a bit on the gimmicky side. That's just my two cents worth, though, and I still think it was a great show. Nit pick nit pick!

b)this show was fucking sick, i was drunk when i got there, so when i went to the bathroom to put on my merch, i left my 60 dollar banana republic polo that i was wearing in there.

I've actually been thinking. Since I will be syncing up 19 of nexus' clips up to the bootleg that timmay was able to fix up for us. I might as well see if anyone else out there has any vids of the show, and possiblllly be able to piece together the whole show with all the clips that I receive. It definitely wont be an overnight thing. But I figured if I'm going to do this much of it already, might as well see if we can possibly set up the entire show. It'd be a pretty good souvenir, and I wouldn't mind really about the quality of the vids, just no cellphones hah. Maybe from a couple different perspectives from other people on here. Anyways, if you have some video, and are interested PM me with some megaupload links and we'll see what we can do.

GO trains? I'm pretty sure there's like a bus / train every hour. Copps Coliseum is right on the bus route, and maybe a 15 minute walk from the train station. Maybe less. It'll be cold, you'll walk fast.

Speaking of which, I soooo prefer summer shows. Standing outside all day in November is not for the meek. Maybe I'll actually get a seat for this one.
Will definitely be at the Hamilton show!! So glad they're coming here finally... :)

Victoly:
When I usually go between Hamilton and Toronto by bus, I take the "QEW Express" bus which usually takes less than an hour (depending on traffic). Copps Coliseum isn't a far walk from the station in downtown Hamilton.

Kind of late to be replying to this thread. BUT this show was incredible, I managed to catch one on Robin's water bottles, which for some reason had tape wrapped around it. Hopefully I can make it to Hamilton
I was at the show, and i was really pissed when people behind me were telling me to sit down. I dont know about you, but i paid to see nin for the 5th time, and i wasn't going to let anyone ruin it for me, so i stood up for the whole show, sure my back was killing me, but it was my tribute to trent and nin for the great show. I was even more shocked when they had encores, every shows ive ever been to ended at head like a hole, quite the surprise.

And, robin finck is a way better guitarist. He may not jump around on stage and play sloppy like aaron, and i dont mind what aaron was about. But Finck has always had the better bends, and heavier, and stronger presences with his guitar then north did. You watch And All that Could have been, and watch With Teeth, and you can really see the difference, if no one has been to alot of their concerts.
