Trents voice was better than ive ever heard it. So strong.
Amazing re-instrumentation of a lot of songs. Trent using keys heaps
more.
More than anything, its raw raw raw. All open white light, strobes
and white floods, nothing fancy just them playing fucking hard.
Very minimal backing track stuff, but honestly, you wouldnt have a
clue anything was missing.

Was La Mer the version where trent just plats the main chords for a bit leading into another song, or was it the full La Mer with the kickass drum beat and all?

Am I missing something? The first post mentioned March of the Pigs, which is missing from the setlist? Did I misread something or is the setlist missing MotP? (I find it hard to believe he went a show without playing MotP. It would probably be the first time since he wrote the song.)

Here are my notes from the upcoming thread:
There were quite a few lights but it was a fairly basic setup, except for maybe these rainbowy lights at the back.
Ilan was awesome. He didn't do any insane solos or anything he was just right on the money. He moved from the drums halfway across the stage to play the piano bits in MOTP which was pretty cool. He also played 2 different kits during Fragile.
JMJ was fun to watch he gets pretty into it.
Hurt was the acousitc guitar version.
There was no 999,999 it was a new intro thing that sampled the drums at the start of 1,000,000.
There were lots of little bits that were subtly different.
La Mer was superb, the lead melody toward the start was played with a xylophone or something similar, not guitar.
SICNH's bassline was played on a double bass (which was also on a another couple songs, La Mer, something else).
Non entity rocked. Trent said something like, this was his favourite song that's not on With Teeth and "it's kinda weird it's not on there".
And of course The Downward Spiral. What a treat, it ruled big time. Trent said this would probably be the last time they played in NZ. Then they played a couple of songs said "Bye" and buggered off, leaving a confused crowd expecting an encore. Maybe a kurfew thing, but it was bittersweet ending, heavy on the bitter to be sure.
SICNH setup was - Ilan on keys, Justin on double bass, Robin on guitar, Trent singing. Head Down, had no vocal effects.
La Mer, the drumming was really cool, I've always dug the drum line on that and it came out pretty well tonight.
He repeatedly said they were playing stuff they liked to play and hoped we enjoyed it also.
The Downward Spiral was fairly faithful (Trents big heavy breathing was cool, he had his face buried in some weird microphone) except the end part that was just full on loud with no talky bits.
A few of the songs started with Trent slowy building up a sample, especially 100000, Terrible Lie.
Robin had a wireless guitar lead and wandered about the stage quite a bit, I don't know if that's the norm but the other guitars were wired.

What were those things next to each band member, on stands? You can see them sticking out in the videos...

Show was great. The Downward Spiral was excellent live. I don't believe Trent spoke the vocals for it, but it was heavy as.
The 4 piece was weird. Trent was using a LOT of different key setups. One was awesome he used before most songs making intros for 1,000,000, Burn, Terrible Lie, Suck etc.
Ilan was very solid. His hair was up and down. Put a lot of energy into it. He was a bit to ther left of the back of the stage. He didn't do anything overly special but being his first show he was great! The drum bits were solid and he hits them hard.

Without bothering to look at the video to be sure, you might mean these little lights they had on what looked like mic stands at the front of the stage pretty close to the guys. My favourite part was The Fragile when Trent sung the line that trails off, then stepped over the keyboard and picked up the next line on his other microphone. It was kind of a musical pun or something.
Songs 14 through 17 was the definite highlight (although when he said "this is probably my favourite song not on With Teeth" I thought for a second he was going to do Home, and then had to retract my excitement just a little when it turned out to be Non Entity). Something about the slow-burn nature of TDS, La Mer and The Fragile really suits the four piece.
Head Down also sounded highly cool. I hope there's audio of this show, I'd really like to hear it again. And there was this weird bit in something (Survivalism?) that sounded like they were going to break into Cotton Eye Joe...but in a good way.
Ilan was all two-drum-kitting, some-kind-of-xylophoney, keyboardy greatness. Whatever made Trent think NIN had to be a five piece, eh?
And bless that early entry system! I ended up on the barrier pretty much in the centre, just to the Robin of Trent, after nothing more arduous than a few minutes in the wrong queue (damn you uninformed ticket lady!), then a nice air conditioned wait in the foyer. Massive kudos to the fan club/line organiser/wielder of power guy.
And I thought The Naked And Famous were awesome.

This show was absolutely awesome. Just gutting about the lack of encore. Totally worth travelling the length of the country from Invercargill to go.
Was on the barrier for most of the gig right in front of Finck, got pushed back a bit from when I was taking photo's and recording but was still only 2nd/3rd row.
Got some wicked photo's and vid's, tho I got shaken around quite a bit in a couple of them. might post some links later on
Can't really complain about anything besides the fact I wanted to hear some more Year Zero stuff. Just got back home now and I'm still absolutely buzzing.

I was actually really glad when the keyboard line of TDS didn't segue into Closer... the full TDS was a very pleasant surprise! No vocals though...
La Mer was wicked. Broken songs rocked hard.
Survivalism didn't quite hit properly IMO, but overall the show was very tight. Good spread of material across the ages, possibly a few too many 'digital deconstruction' intros to the songs though. Would have like to have heard The Big Come Down, Echoplex.

And for the Intro. It kicked ass. The members all came out, Trent and Robin got either side of a piece of equipment. They were both making synthy sounds with it. It started slow and quieter. Then it started to speed up and get louder, they'd be rocking back and forward off it. It was awesome. I never got to see 999,999 but i'm sure this would be much better.

Are they using all the Screens from the last tour, or just lights and a few effects here and there?

Youtube a video. They're using lots of strobe lights and basic over-head lighting. There's some bars in the back With Teeth style running sideways. The light show was possibly a bit disappointing but the tour is meant to be stripped down so I understand why. (Also it's fucking expensive to haul it all over here i'm sure) I guess after the LitS tour the expectations have risen haha. We're so spoiled.

Holy shit. TDS was AMAZING. As was La Mer. And Ilan did a brilliant job, running around the stage doing a million different jobs at once. The setlist was brilliant. A really good mix; however seeing that picture of the setlist posted earlier makes me wish we got an encore. Oh well, still can't complain.
Nemesis - I was probably right behind you. I hope you didn't get too affected by that drunken prick with no top on that kept sliding around against everyone. *cringe*
And a little off topic, but I thought the Naked and Famous were really, really good. I was expecting nothing, but they kicked ass.
