a bit disappointed that Trent twattered he didn't think this was their best show, but i agree somewhat. the setlist was terrific, IMHO, a true hardcore fan's setlist. But let's face it, the crowd wasn't all hardcore fans, so...

Just got back to the hotel, drove in from Dallas to be here. Amazing show, could not have asked for a better set list. I couldnt believe NiN opened up for JA, I had no idea. They played about the same amount of time, but I still think NiN was on longer. Oh, and I LOVE the new drummer! What a bad ass! He's no Josh Freese, but he still holds it down. Janes Addiction was of course bad ass too, very glad I got to see them, but Nails blew them out of the water! The merch was very cool too, got The NiN and JA posters and a NIN|JA shirt. Well, bout to hit up 6th St I guess. Awesome night, great show, lots of energy.

Hey guys Dan The Man Here first time poster, I drove in with SHbassGTR and just gotta say that I loved this show!! It was my first time seeing both bands live and was more then satisfied with both performances. ROCK N ROLL

Excellent show, Street Sweeper was awesome and glad I got to see Tom play with his tongue.

Setlist was more than I could have asked for, can't wait to see the video from The Fragile

I have a ton of pictures and several videos, sorting through them now but my camera decided it wanted to put a lot of noise in them. I'll upload them but will wait and see if someone else has some better stuff first.

Very disappointed in Trent's twitter, I was on stage right and didn't really pay much attention to the floor, but it did seem pretty tame. Justin kept coming over to our side of the stage and rocking with us, had a great time

Great show first of all. All three bands were in top form and it was the best four hours of music you could ask for. The crowd was awful for NIN though. They didn't shut the fuck up, it was like nobody was interested. That's fine, but when you're yapping away through the whole set, it gets fucking ridiculous. Three guys in my row talked through the whole set and then bolted when Jane's came, who the fuck were they here for?

SSSC were awesome. Definently more Rage than Audioslave. The Paper Planes cover was ace and so was Tom playing the guitar with his teeth. I'll definently pick up their album in June.

Setlist was great, with the exception of Sin and Not So Pretty Now. MSD was a perfect opener and the holy trinity of I Do Not Want This, LITS and Dead Souls was enough to make you want to fucking cry, it was amazing. I'm sad to see Trent call out the crowd like this, I'd expect behavior like that in San Antonio, but not Austin.

Jane's was awesome. I honestly didn't know what to expect, because they've been hit or miss, but they were awesome. Perry was in rare form and the band looked to be having a jam session which was fine by me.

All in all a great show, lots of fun, I converted my brother, I just wish the crowd was a little bit better.

Oh, and does anyone have Jane's set list?

Great setlist and show. Was hoping for Reptile but got Dead Souls instead. Very, very strong opening - they really came out on fire, and liked how some of "easier" songs like La Mer and Lights in the Sky came across with the more stripped down stage set up. Highlights were Terrible Lie, The Fragile, The Becoming, and I Do Not Want This, imo.

I'll have to agree that the crowd on the floor was pretty lame / light on chaos and energy. Sporadic mosh pit would crop up in the middle, but for the most part it was a lot of standing around taking pics or video, and very little participation. Which was surprising, but maybe a by product of having the more relaxed camera policy, floors no longer being what they were back in the TDS and Fragile eras, show being in Austin instead of Houston (personal bias), and NIN being the opener instead of the closer. NIN was great, and it's too bad that the crowd was into it.

Personally the floor was perfect. Who says you have to pushing and be throwing people around to show you are having a good time. I was next to the rail, only about 2 people from it, and I was taking video and photos the whole time, well off and on. I think that if people are doing the photos and video then the band must be doing something right to make everyone wanna capture the moment. I really enjoyed being that close to the stage and not having to worry that much about my surrounding.

So today I was moving out of my dorm, and I managed to get in touch with a guy selling an extra ticket via craigslist. I was coming from San Marcos, and the traffic was NOTHING like I anticipated it to be. It took me an hour to get to the Frank Erwin Center. I was pissed. I missed SSSC, and MSD-Sin. I was so fucking stressed on the way there. I knew I would be cutting it close, but the traffic really fucked me. I'm just thankful I GOT there.


I was pleased in the end. Jane's Addiction was really good, despite the many lame jokes to introduce songs. Anyone know their set list?

Craigslist guy was pretty cool, if I were him, I would have beat the shit out of me for making him late, but I did pay him double face value for the ticket, so I guess he thought beating the shit out of my wallet was enough. It was my third time seeing NIN, first being last August (I think?) in Houston, and second being in San Antonio last October. Wish I could have been on the floor, but really, I'm just thankful I caught the wave goodbye.

Excellent setlist. I Do Not Want This and Heresy were the highlights for me. I'll agree that the crowd sucked. Waaaay too much talking during the majority of the set. The pit also seemed a little sparse considering GA was sold out. For the most part I didn't let the crowd bother me and just concentrated on rocking out. Thought the new drummer was great. I'd put this in my top 5 NIN shows I've seen just based on setlist alone.

Greatest show ever!!!!
Highlights were MSD, Sin,The Fragile, and LITS.
But Trent's right, the crowd wasn't digging it too much, felt like my my mom and I were the only ones singing along.
And I can't wait till Rob posts the vids for The Becoming and LITS.

Missed a good deal of SSSC and the first NIN song to direct a late friend and let her in the building. Grrrr. What little bit I did hear of SSSC I liked and will check them out in the future.

Things did seem a bit off connection-wise tonight with NIN, but the performance was stellar! Had seats on JMJ’s side…you can really feel how vibed he is to be in this moment with the band. Very cool to see. Enjoyed seeing Trent and Ilan playing off each other as well as Justin and Robin doing the same. I’m never particularly happy with the acoustics in that building and hope if and when NIN comes back they’ll choose a different venue…I’d sooner drive to Houston. I guess what made my experience great was being able to hear songs performed live that I love like The Becoming, Gone Still, Lights In The Sky and the Dead Souls cover. Also really liked the energy on I Do Not Want This. It’s got to be hard to turn a lame crowd around and sometimes it just doesn’t happen. I think it’s simply distractions – whole lot of crowd talking, texting, filming, drinking – pretty much everything but paying attention. It’s like going to an art museum and just reading the placards but not looking or getting a feeling for the art. Why come? Access NOT. Too each his own. Anyway, I’ll have to live vicariously through other concert footage. Still great to see them again…

Loved the JA set…really impressive work by Perry considering the injury. The man has a lot of energy! That was a gorgeous “tail” he was wearing. I kept trying to tell how it was made. Also dug the drummer’s kilt. Fashion accoutrements aside, I loved hearing Mountain Song and Ocean Size…was hoping for Slow Divers but you can’t have it all.

How to wrap up…I don’t know. Grateful.

P.S. Yes, I realize I've just been totally hypocritical in wanting to see other people's footage at later dates.

Don't understand why everyone thought the crowd was lame, I was about four rows back center stage in the pit and trust me there wasn't anyone not into it. I had an amazing time (finally got to see the Becoming), and that's all that matters to me.

I was in the bleacher stage right section 49 peeling out for the whole show, about 3 songs into nin set I get a tap on my shoulder from a girl behind,she shouted in my ear "why are you standing up we can't see through you"

I mean come on 2 of the best alternative bands ever in one nite and your lazy ass can't even show them respect by getting up , I mean I bust my butt at work for like 14 cruddy hours and I can manage it

I was around there as well and have the same thoughts. I had a blast and did my part to make my area of the pit get into the show.

I got to add 10 songs to my list of live NIN tracks. That's a pretty wicked night in my book.

My pics didn't turn out that great, my pit camera finally died on me and I had to bring the new one which sucks for concert pics. But here's about where I was. here too

My only complaint was the talking and people not staying in their fucking seats who had to keep walking back and forth. I want to enjoy the show I payed for not make sure you have room to go get another plate of nachos.


Other than that, great show.

Just got back to Houston. Great show! I can't believe they played Not so Pretty Now, I Do Not Want This, Lights In the Sky and Dead Souls! Great fun. It was so funny when Trent was slamming on the keyboard in a fit. All I gotta say is LITS is to new Hurt.

Dont get the hate for the Austin crowd. It wasnt crazy or anything but they were no way lethargic, at least pit areas I were at. It wasnt a bad show but the Atlanta and Flordia shows DEFINITELY trumped Austin which might have given it a disadvantage. Maybe a crazy pit was expected for Austin, IDK. There were mini mosh areas at different areas during different songs. One thing that was funny there was this guy in the pit the folks around him was saying because "he's blind give him room" but he was taking photos like a mother. Also whoever werent on the floor probably didnt realize the first 6 or 7 rows back from the center rail were absolute crush, so there wasnt any room to jump around. I had to move back a bit to take pictures and mosh a bit. The band didnt give any inclination during that they thought the crowd werent in to it. They were still on fire. So I was surprised by the reason comments.

I'm a little disappointed he left Texas on such a low note. From where I was sitting it looked like a lot of people were having fun.

I only had a fixed 50mm lens (no zoom) and was too busy filming to take many pictures, but here are some.

This was my 7th nails show, and I would agree - this was the tamest pit I have seen/been in. Thankfully I was near the people who knew every word to every song like me and took none of these rare songs for granted. First time seeing a few of the songs on here, and they were mind blowing! It was about as good as I had hoped for and as good of a set they could come up with to appease most people in attendance. I'd go on to say this is in my top 2 of best NIN shows i've attended.

I stood next to a guy the entire time in the pit (we were about 3 rows back from the rail, center right) and he recorded the show in it's entirety in HD. Yes the crowd was lackluster, but the advantage to that was no one bumped his camera. Looking forward to seeing it mixed with the audio (if anyone recorded it).

I was in nosebleed but it was a great view. From where I was sitting the pit did look rowdy but I know the people around me were sitting down. Stupid drunk white trash bitch in front of me was screaming "play closer!" at the top of her lungs during "lights in the sky" and just wanted to punch her in the back so she would fall down. Aren't I mean? She just kept yelling that throughout the concert and what pissed me off is that wasn't her seat, it is was somebody else's and she made a big scene when the usher told her to move.

Other than that the concert was awesome. I was pleased to finally hear heresy, the becoming, dead souls and I do not want this. I wished they would have played Last but oh well, I'm just glad that I got to see NIN maybe for the last time. Hopefully in the future they will resurface.

On one final note, don't drive from shreveport, la to austin and back in one night the drive is fucking brutal.

I'm sorry but the respect for NIN was not there. I too was bombarded by people telling me to sit down. I have been to six NIN shows, and this was by for the lamest. I think Trent was right on for saying what he said. This would be the third time I have seen NIN at the Frank Erwin Center and you wouldn't believe the energy that NIN can deliver. I'm sorry, the show was awful, but I have to say that Trent will not lose his fans. He connected with the ones who were listening. I'm sorry but you don't go to a show such as this and sit down during the set. Like what was said, it's not a damn opera. Respect for JA coming back out and locking up a tour, but I wasn't there to see them, I was there to see NIN. I was extremely bummed about this, but in the past Trent and his crew have had nothing but a great energy from the Austin crowd. However I did love and appreciate the fact of the rare songs that NIN did play. Just hope he is not too discouraged to make a comeback to Austin. Might have better luck in Los Angeles since we are going to be moving out there. Hope everyone had a semi good time.

That show was incredible. Couldn't have asked for a better NIN setlist, and even though I wasn't really looking forward to them, SSSC really impressed me. Definitely going to pick up their album next month. Jane's was pretty good also, but (for me at least) opening with Three Days was kind of strange - nothing else in their set can top that. And yeah the crowd kind of sucked, but I can guarantee it would have been a different story if they had played in Houston or Dallas. I got a few pics, will go through them and post the good ones later.

Okay, I went to the show and filmed in HD right above the soundboard. I will post the video soon but I am at work. HERE is a still for now to give you an idea!

There are some things that I think didn't work in Trent's favor, keep in mind that I have no problem what so ever, but these are just observations.

Jane's is more of an Austin town, I can honestly say that the crowd from which I was it was more excited for Jane's than anything. And since they were the headliner, more people were there for them.

The setlist. It was perfect for us, could not be a better setlist, but the lack of hits probably discouraged people, I heard people sing along to HLAH and THTF, but dead and talking through songs like LITS or Heresy.

Many of the casual fans have seen them before, so they were probably bored. Sure many people could've liked them, but Trent's right, nobody seemed to care anymore, considering they've been touring non-stop for four years, everybody has seen them at least once, and for them it was enough.

Those are my theories at least. Like I said, no complaints to the band for once from me, I was in heaven for an hour and a half and it was truly bliss, I'm going to miss them on the hiatus, but I am bummed about the way things turned out, but I am glad to see that you guys enjoyed it as much as I did, and I'm glad I converted my brother.

As someone said earlier, it had to be mostly because of the use of cameras. A lot of people were focused on getting all that they can since this is the last wave goodbye.

...Or it couldve been all the people smoking pot on the floor.

Here's a few I took last night.











Loved the relaxed camera policy! I had a blast jumping screaming and doing what you do when you're close to the rail. There was plenty of time to do both.

There was certainly enough pot smoking going on somewhere behind me. I noticed the time when Trent threw down the mic during Fragile. I bet it's a reaction of hearing the crowd mumblings which made him upset a bit. I notice throughout the show that he was a little low on energy; which explains his feeling about the show. I had a great time nonetheless, and I managed to capture at least three songs on video.

Aren't Austin crowds usually more laid back than the rest of the country, particulary the rest of Texas? Seems like a lot of the shows I go to in Austin (for all types of music) are this way.

I had a great time. Anyone got the set for SSSC?

Oh boy, you guys got dead souls. I would have loved that one live :)

I was the far, far gone guy on the very front row of section 36 (best seats in the venue as fas as I'm concerned).

Somehow I managed to keep my brain from leaking completely out of my ears...

...all the while maintaining a steady high definition shot.

Eye contact between Trent and my camera lens on more than a few occasions.

The set in its HD entirety will be coming soon.

just got back home a few hours ago... this was my 7th nails show as well... and though i enjoyed the show very much, its probably my least favorite. as mentioned it was a great setlist; mostly TDS and fragile stuff. i would have LOVED to have heard last... but oh well. the fragile was my pick, i love how he slammed the mic down, then quickly ran to the mic by the keyboards to finish the "but its too late for me".

personally, i thought heresy did not transfer well live. was great to hear it performed, but like burn... IMO... ehhhh...

piggy (NCSMN) was a great change of pace... i always loved the opening drum sequence and thought it transfered wonderfully live. i love how NOBODY knew not so pretty now... looking at each other kind of confused... "which album is the from..?"

so... first choice being the fragile, id have to say the way out is through was the runner up. AMAZING. i especially enjoyed the abrupt ending. yes, the crowd was kinda lame, but HLAH ended up bringing everyone together, dancing, headbanging, singing along. i love seeing that at concerts... participation with a large mass of people is fun sometimes!

of all the people i ended up meeting and talking to, i concluded this was certainly a janes addiction show, not a nails one. people where there to see JA. the nin set, though cool to most of them, was just a way to kill time. and by the time nails was finshing up, i noticed the venue was quite packed. i thought the nin merch kinda sucked, too. the shirts were okay, but certainly not worth 35. what happened? the last show in houston had beautiful merch and of course i was too broke to get anything last time. now that i had cash to spend, nothing appealed to me. so i just grabbed a poster.

all in all, my least favorite nin performance, --BUT-- still a great show. id have to say either the fragility v2 show at the compaq center or the lights in the sky gig at the toyota center where my favorites.

cant want for an audio copy..!! people who recorded the show please keep posting here... i like what i see/hear so far.

this was my first time in austin, and i really dug it. it reminds me of a REALLY laid back los angeles. i didnt realize there where hills everywhere and the drive out there was gorgeous.

well, well...
Trent (aka the BLACKHOLE) was devouring planets as usual...when you are like 5 to 10 people from the rail, slightly to the right...only the most committed survive there. The last 3-5 people will hardly ever lose their spot to someone pushing forward...i push forward till i reach this point, then hang on for dear life, maintaining position, while screaming every lyric to every song, jumping and trying to connect with Trent...when u see the whole show from there, you are not aware of the overall crowd energy...ive been to over 20 shows now, and this ranks high, esp. because of the setlist...(though i could tell a little that something was amiss and unsatisfactory to Trent) and my enjoyment of watching JA and SSSC only made it better, and gave me the "big picture" Trent was envisioning, pairing up with JA...i know i gave all i could, like i do every time, every show, but Austin is notorious for being lame in the energy or crowd participation dept. (slacker city USA)...but again no one around me, along the rail in the center was worried about that...i wish i heard non-entity, home and metal...but was aware that i would likely not get 2 of those...not so pretty now, the becoming, heresy and piggy version made my night regardless...(TWOIT and the lyric "I WANT TO DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS" is part of my soul and will always be with me forever) This show really made me think i have to make it to Boner-roo, or some outside hope that he comes back from overseas and plays a couple of last USA shows to see us off properly...

Clearly the age dynamic, past show perspectives, the mixed fan base, cell phones, cameras, band order, etc...all played into the many opinions here...i could go on for pages about how posters are right and wrong...but ya know at 37 years old, I am getting a little old to be pushing my body this hard, and in a way I believe Trent cant keep it up for much longer without looking out of place, like hes trying to be something hes not any more, his body and age fighting back. Grey hair, testosterone loss, black tshirts and army boots dont mix so well past 30 ...so Trent, thanks for seeing the end that needed to come, i probably would keep hitting my little NIN button, dispensing your music/drug till im dead, oblivious to the world outside thats past me by. Soo.....I think its time for me to grow up and move beyond my current self, funny how I'm kinda relieved to see the end (cause when the way out is through...thats a tough path to take) thanks for the many years of dedication to your craft and being true to yourself and the fans. Special kudos for having the foresight to pull JA off the shelf...fuck they are the best band besides NIN IMO, and to not have them playing is a travesty.

another thought...if NIN was too close the show, how would a fan like me, not practically kill themselves, screaming for more encores?...Trent, i think realized this would lead to insatiable attitudes. Again after the show I was exactly in the mindset I believe Trent was wanting...ready to buy any new JA music they may create, and feeling of coming "full circle" Thanks, thanks, thanks!

nice moment, @ Denny's, congratulated and shook hands with Tom and Boots as they went in...1 waitress serving the whole place...funny...also the parents with their teen kids at the shows tickles this father of 3 young boys. Also took my wife to her first NIN show and bringing her to this show was one piece of fixing our relationship...now she understands me a little better, without actually understanding the thoughts that go on in my head (she woulda never married me if so haha!)

I'm pretty sure most of the people were there to see JA. People were talking and turned around during NIN where I was on the floor (about center). It fucking sucked, but what should I have expected? When was the last time JA toured compared to NIN? I moved to the back for JA and was shocked at all the people singing along and how loudly they were cheering compared to NIN. But whatevs. I enjoyed NIN and that's all that matters. And standing at the back during JA, all of a sudden I see Robin walk past us to the crowd. He was out there for a little while then walked back to the back. That was awesome to see. And JMJ came out on the floor after everything was over. I took a picture of him taking a picture with some guy (cell phone pic b/c my batteries were dead in my camera).

I loved the setlist. I don't think I could have asked for a better one. Oh, and the way JMJ was playing the finger cymbals during "The Becoming" was lo.l-tastic.

My friend was talking with one of the security supervisors at the show. He said he loved the lax policy on cameras. They hate having to check just as much as we hate being denied the privilege of bringing them. Trent Reznor makes everyone happy!

Ahhh, I've got you.

It does suck that most of the crowd wasn't as into it as I was, and that it seemed most around me were there to see Jane's Addiction, but that's fine. I got to see some of my favorite songs live for the first time, and maybe the last. Actually being able to go was such a last minute surprise.

I spent the last ninety dollars I had on a ticket, and a parking garage, and I couldn't be more happy to be broke.

I'm digging the shit out of this tour.

From where I was seated, the crowd around me mostly seemed to be casual fans who didn't know or care for a vast majority of the songs. Lots of people talking through the show except the singles. I didn't really care, I thought the show was incredible, but the crowd just wasn't getting into it where I was, for the most part. But as for me, I couldn't have hoped for a better setlist. Hearing La Mer in particular really made my night, but it was really one hell of a set, all in all.

I thought Heresy worked just fine. I didn't care for Dead Souls, but I never liked that song.

OK, I can understand all the bad crowd stuff, but for me this was the best show I've been to in ages IMO. The setlist was fucking awesome! So much from TDS!

When I saw Trent with the Fragile graphic Les Paul I about crapped myself. I wasn't paying any attention to the people around me at all, I was just having fun for myself.

My wife and I were really close on Robins side on the floor. Robin and I made eye contact a few times and he gave me a sly nod when I gave him the thumbs up.

The best part for me was that I could have my space and not worry about too many moshers, place stealers and overall dicks around me. There was really none of that where I was.

Song highlights for me were definitely the ones from early on that I hadn't heard live for 15 years or so. Heresy, Mr. Self Destruct (what a way to open!!) The Becoming, TWOIT and Dead Souls. It was my first time to hear NSPN live and I really never liked it before, but it came off really freaking cool.

LITS tour was amazing visually, but lacked, to me, what this one had in energy and performance. 5 out of 5 stars for a diehard fan that wants obscure, non-radio tracks to be played.

Ilan is crazy good and was so tight on the piano when he played. Great choice for a replacement to robot boy.

Oh yeah and Janes rocked like I knew they would. Stay for their set you douchebags that leave early. Way worth it even if you're not a fan.

Only downside is that my wife got a DWI after the show and spent 20 hours in Travis County Jail. I told her not to go buy those cigarettes at 2 am. Oh well!!

I hope this isn't it but if it is they really hit my buttons and made it memorable. I loved it!

^^ Yeah it was as cool as it could get for me. Then having Eric Avery right in front of me jamming the Three Days bassline was just as good. And I was right there when Perry was dry humping the speaker. It Was Awesome!!

Wish I could have had more time to spend in ATX for a meet and greet with some of you lovely NIN fans, but the wife hates this website and therefore if I told her I was going to a ETS meet, she might pull a Lorena Bobbitt on me. NOT GOOD! Plus I had my son with me for the whole time except while at the show. (He cried when I told him I was going to see NIN and he wanted to go bad. At 4 and a half he is too young.)

Oh gawd! The Perry speaker-hump was the sexiest thing I've seen all week!

I'm not going to lie, Perry is sex and a half. He was just plain awesome on Tuesday.

I have to agree with the both of you. I never thought he was attractive in the least bit...til I saw him in action. Yessir.

Kinda bummed I didn't get to meet any of you cool kids there. Maybe in five years.

Initially, I was not going to attend this concert. I’ve seen three spectacular NIN concerts prior to Tuesday, and I was full and satisfied. Jane’s Addition is the reason why my boyfriend and I decided to buy tickets at the last minute. I liked Jane’s Addition for years, but I was never a huge fan. I did want to see what they had to offer live. My boyfriend is not a fan of NIN, but he was curious to see them live after I told him about my previous concert experiences.

Well… I can honestly say Jane’s Addition was the highlight of the evening. Perry Ferrell and company gave it their all. I had a huge smile on my face throughout their set. Perry’s stage presence, song choices, lighting, overall energy was on point. You could tell that Jane’s Addition truly wanted to be there. There was high energy from start to finish.


I was bored throughout NIN’s set. That energetic and inspired performance I was expecting was not there this time around. Certain songs were lackluster live in my opinion. I’ve always wanted to hear “The Becoming” live. I was under whelmed. I don’t think I will ever warm up to “Not So Pretty Now.” “La Mer” and “The Fragile” were definitely the highlight of the show for me. I am not one of those “only play the popular hits” fans. I’m glad they focused more on the rare NIN songs. I guess they felt flat to me.

The arena seemed to come alive once Jane’s hit the stage. It was evident that the majority of the audience was there to see Jane’s Addition. People who left after NIN missed an amazing set by Jane’s, and I’m glad they performed last.

I know it takes two (the performer and audience) to make or break a concert. It must be difficult to perform when the connection is not there. There was definitely no connection between band and audience OVERALL from start to finish of NIN set.

The city of Austin probably thinks they're too cool for NIN now. Beats the hell out of them playing in San Antonio to a bunch of people that think Rob Halford created metal.
