they fucking played until 10 pm those mother fuckers.. but it was damn good while it lasted.. same set list except smaller than every other show

I was excited about pinion, and something I can never have was awesome as hell (really badass pink and blue lighting!). In general this show went much smoother and the sound in the theater was much better on the balcony. I had a really great view and this setlist ruled. Oh, and Aaron North won me over tonight. Last night I was still missing Robin, but tonight Aaron was awesome.

I wasnt there tonight but I was last night. Trent fell off the stage and wiped blood from his nose on his mic stand. He might have broke it and had to play a smaller show tonight. Does any1 know if this is why or nething like that?

god damn god damn god damn. that was so amazing. i survived my first pit too. hey does anyone remember who threw the water bottle at the begining of burn? probably not but i caught it. maybe someone has a video of it. that was the best set list i could have asked for, if only they had played only though.

Wow. Now that you mention it, I remember him falling from the stage during Piggy, but I thought it was planned. Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember one of the roadies freaking out and the guy next to me in the balcony shot out of his seat. Trent got right back into it, though, and the rest of the band didn't seem too phased.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that last night he came down off the stage on purpose, he did it again tonight (I think during closer). He dropped down, walked around a bit, then got pulled back up, he was only off the stage for a couple seconds though, so I could see why it would seem like he fell and got right back up.

As far as the nosebleed thing, I didn't notice this last night, and the set tonight was 19 songs (if you count pinion) so that wasn't any shorter. He definitely didn't have a broken nose tonight.

I was up front. When he fell, he was reachin up to give 'love' to the crowd, and slipped off the gate and dropped like a rock. He laid there for a lil, then they got him back on stage. He stumbled around a bit, laid on the stage, went to the drumset, tore that apart a lil, then got bak into the song and everything went fine after that.

Holy fucking shit, that was awesome. Best show yet.

I'm bummed that I wasn't able to meet up with the NIN Historian or Beavette. We had trouble getting a cab from the restaurant we were at and didn't end up getting there until halfway through the Dresden Dolls' set, and then my stupid ass phone died a few songs into the NIN set. Sorry guys.

The show was great, everything I hoped it could be and more except for the ass clown that decided to throw a beer when he got pissed there would be no encore and hit one of us in the face. If you are reading this, I hope you got hit by the train on the way home from the show. If people are going to act like gorillas at concerts then there is a Limp Bizkit concert comming up soon I am sure, where random acts of violence are probably socially acceptable and Fred would probably even think you are cooler than you think you are right now.

By the way, what was up with Jerome during the beginning of Gave Up? There were drums, but he was drinking a water? Is there a secret monkey in the back that plays the drums for him when he gets thirsty? I thought that was weird... Can't wait unitil the next show in Chicago, I just hope they don't serve beer in bottles.

that was one of the best sounding shows i have ever seen i think. i was really worried because everyone said the sound at the congress is lousy and the whole friday mishap, but i was very impressed with the sound.

oh yeah,
and my friend who went with me is a graphic design major met rob sheridan. she asked him if he needed an intern, but he declined the offer.

(just in case anyone wanted to intern under sheridan)

I think the setlist from last night was a little better, but the show overall was better tonight. It was great hearing "Every Day is Exactly The Same" played for only the second time live. I was toward the back of the floor last night, but tonight i was in the balcony, on the side of Jeordie. Opening with You Know What You Are was pretty intense. Trent and the whole band was very energetic again. At the end of Head Like A Hole, Aaron rubbed his guitar against the venue wall, and it created some smoke, somehow. Great 2 nights of NIN.

WOW

The set list was all I couldve asked for and more !! I was up in the balcony and the sound was really good (pleasantly suprised that it was not as loud as I expected).

I think the band sounded tight, the crowd was totally into it, all in all a great time.

Oh and the Dresdon Dolls were better than I expected too. Pretty cool.

Cant wait to see some pics and hopefully find a bootleg

there isn't anything i could say that hasn't already been said about this concert. i've see nails a few times, and this was by far the best. hearing "no, you don't" and "every day is exactly the same" made my night.

and exactly how many water bottles did jeordie throw at aaron?

the dresdel dolls, the singer has a great voice, but that material... my god..... utter shit (sorry if someone disagree with my opinion) but its a shame that someone can have such a powerful voice and waste it on such repetitive trash. i thought i was being tortured for 40 minutes.....

came home wasted from the bar one night and sat down and figured I'd send an e-mail over to good old nin.com...

went on a bit about the usual fan worship(how much nin means to his fans and how we appreciate his work). then asked a favor...

told him I was going to be at the may 7th show, and my favorite song is Something I Can Never Have (which I have never seen live since I have been following his boota around since '94)...

anyway it was played by coincidence or not and it was fuckin' a amazing as was the entire show...almost as cool as when I met him (yeah had to rub that in)

This was my first NIN show and I had to drive 5 hours just to see it. Let me tell you...IT WAS WORTH IT. Where should I begin. First on saturday morning woke up and ate breakfast at the Tempo cafe on chestnut street downtown. It was on the same block as my hotel. So me, my sister, and 3 of our frineds sit down next to these two guys. One is wearing some crazy jewlery and the other is ITALIAN AND HAS DYED BLACK HAIR. I thought it might be Alessandro, but I didn't say anything. Then my friend asked, "You guys going to the Nails concert?" they say "yea...were trying to make it" HAHA we looked like idiots, but I still didn't catch on because I don't really know what the new guys look like. Then they say, "were you guys there last night?" and im like"Nope, wish I was, were you?" Italian guy says "yea, but I heard they had technical difficulties with the PA" so his friend says "yea I heard the KEYBOARDIST tripped over a cord." Then I realized. I was all like "Alessandro?" and he was like "yea whats up?" we were in the hotel next to his. so I asked him how the tour was going and whatnot, he said it was cool and stuff. Then he finnished eating shook my hand and said "Have a good show!" and godamn! I DID. First the floor was FUCKING AMAZING! everyone was into it. I had to use my arms to givemself room to breath, but it was awesome. The setlist was almost all I could ask for. The Dresden Dolls weren't bad either. During Nails, I moshed my brains out and crowd surfed durning HLAH!! It was awesome. then got back in the pit for the end of the song. CAUGHT A DRUMSTICK!! That made my night...really...best show ever!! people were cool, no assholes in the pit really. There was this one HUGE dude, but he wasn't an ass, he was just really really big, and when he got in the mosh, he would clean house. It was funny. Anyways, hope to see them again this fall. Trent is up to any challenge. He's not only back, I think hes BETTER!!

Freakin' fabulous set list! Loved that they played 5 songs off of WT and almost died when I heard the opening chords to Sin!

While I do think that both shows were excellent, I think the band had just a tad more intensity during Friday's show...perhaps due to the sound fuck-up. And maybe it was just where I was standing, but it seemed to be a much younger crowd than Friday. Not that I'm complaining...both shows were incredible but just on different merits.

And thanks Beavette for your parking info in the Friday show thread. Found a non-metered street spot on the corner of California and Milwaukee.

yeah these guys i was standing next to very close to the pit immediatly moved in between it and me when they saw that guy (im a little fragile girl). they said they saw him in the bathroom and he was talking about how he had been stabbed like nine times! you could see the fear on the faces of the people around him.
the morning after is great. im even more sore than i was last night.

Best fucking sho ive ever seen. way better than fridays but ya know.i sat down for the dresdon dolls and waited for nin to get on, so id have full energy.

i was the fat kid with red hair freaking out in the middle allll night smokin joints, and all friday night.friday night was a bitch to get cabafter, took me and a friend an hour and a half to get one.this time we parked in those fake ass lots across the street from the venue.
very good to hear 'something i can never have' and'everyday is exactaly the same' i was blown away...if only he had played 'Only' and 'sunspots'

to anyone who was wondering how arron was getting all that smoke off his guitar at the end of the show, it was smoke alright, smoke from plaster being ripped off the side off the stage wall. I could see the chunks of plaster falling off the wall. Fucking amazing, arron eats robin fink alive.

I was really blown away at the intensity that NIN came back with on Saturday. After the friday night mishap I thought they might have gotten all that aggression out that night, but they still seem to have alot left over.

To anyone thinking the show was shorter than friday, sorry you are wrong. Same time as friday night. One hour and a half. You have to remember it took 30 min to fix the problem on Friday. I still will never forget that.

Now I have to wait till the fall for my next fix.....AHHHHHHHHH

Last night Nine INch Nails performed at the Congress Theater on Milwaukee Ave in Chicago.Good mix of 20 to 30something crowd all there for NIN!

The Current Line up of NIN has Jerodie(twiggy from Manson). Jerome on Drums. Aaron on Guitar who replaced Robin (whos in or was in GnR) and some dude on Keyboards.
Aaron is a fucking rockstar.His presence was great. Jumping all over and ramming his guitar on the walls on the Theater. Also at one point Aaron took a dive at his Cabinets and while doing that Jerodie was throwing water bottles at Aaron to try and make him fall. Classic.
Jerodie holds his own in NIN. The dude was in Manson ,Perfect Circle and now NIN. What a career for a guy who's in his earliy 30's.
Jerome looked liked a spider behind the kit. Jerome has been touring with NIN since 1999.
I love the current line up. Really Strong!
Trent well he's still mad. His guns are Huge. It looks like he's been pumping iron for sometime. Enough about looks.
Reznors voice is still if not more powerful than ever. Spazing out throwing a guitar, jumping in the crowd, slam dancing with other members on stage and dumping water anywhere it's dry.
NIN Sounded incredible and I was amazed how clean it came off. Just like the records!
The stage Lighting was so up to date and it felt like you were 1) in hell or 2) in space.
Overalll I've seen NIN 6 times since 94 on every tour and I have to say NIN is still worth seeing live.

yeah- I was at the rail right in front of him. the security guy standing there turned around with a "wtf?" look on his face. He also flinched and put his arm up to block his face when aaron turned and stomped away- he thought aaron would hit him with his guitar.

Aaron has a constant attitude problem look to him, that's for sure. Most of what he was doing seemed to be out of piss and annoyance, like "fuck this!".

i thought the sound was great, and not too loud at all. the crowd around me kicked ass.

comparing trent on the fragility tour to this tour, i thought he looked much healthier (besides the huge muscles). i think like how he performed he looked much better. it was amazing.

I and a friend drove out Saturday morning and afternoon from St. Louis to Chicago to see the show. We stayed at a friend's dorm at U Chicago and took public transportation up to the show. What an adventure!

Needless to say, the show rocked. We were in the balcony. It was the first NIN show for both of us. I am a fan and he is not, but he was even more impressed than I was by the performance. I thought the Dresden Dolls were quite good. Their music is at times a bit repetitive but they are quite entertaining. Also, their cover of War Pigs proved to the audience that they could rock. Their response to the guy who yelled fuck you was also good. Amanda asked which of them he would like to fuck. Then later they told the audience to cuddle with whoever had yelled (apparently Marilyn had told the audience to beat up someone who yelled the same thing).

Anyway, I believe Drunkpoet's setlist is correct. It was an awesome set, especially the first half. It was great that they played so much PHM stuff. Sin was definitely the highlight of the concert for me, especially when Trent tried to twist Aaron's head off while he was playing guitar. At one point toward the end Aaron climbed down onto the back of an amp and had his legs sticking up in the air. The lights were cool. I thought I was going to have a seizure during some of the strobe stuff, and when the background lighting was flashing red and blue (toward the end, can't remember which song). If anyone noticed, they did the whole DNA gel effect with the lights during some of the WT songs. Only Fragile song was No You Don't, which worked fine. I thought the crowd was less into The Collector than any of the other songs.

*EDIT* The only (very minor) disappointment was that Trent was not quite up to snuff on the vocals of EDIETS. You could tell this was still a new one for the band. I'm sure it will get better with practice.

so the show was fantastic. i went to both and couldn't ask for more. it was amazing to see and hear "something i could never have"
the crowd was more into it on saturday i think, alot lounder and trent was more into.

oh and right after we waited to try and get a pic. no luck. then went behind the theater and waited a bit and got to meet the man himself!! so incredible. i got to hug him and say thank you, he smiled and hugged me back. it was really amazing.

and we asked him about the lighting he said that Roy Bennett (maybe Benton, i forget) did it. and he also said that it was fucking genius.

i went to both friday and saturday's show, just got back to st. louis today... what a fvcking long ass drive coming back from moshing nonstop

needless to say, if anyone say a guy with long hair and blue sweater in the pit, that was me. i took off my sweater and white shirt and kept it around my neck because i was burning the fvck up. also some guy recognized me from friday's show right in the pit. that was cool. the only thing that was pissing me off was the continuing collapse of the pit. oh well.

friday = hurt rocked so hard, the crowd was into it. saturday's, however, the crowd was a bit lame. oh well. i love how trent did a diff't setlist this time around. so rockin. when they come back, i'm deffinately doing KC, STL and CHI; maybe even tennessee. can't get enough nin

I got in line at 3:30 and met some interesting people in line. There were some Dresden Dolls walking around breathing fire and walking on stilts! When they started letting us in, I luckily got first row balcony! I couldn't have been more happy.

The Dresden Dolls came on precisely at 7:30 and seriously rocked. I had no idea what to expect, and they were awesome! I can't believe how amazing their version of warpigs was.

NIN totally rocked the house. I think it was the heaviest NIN show I've seen. You could tell that they were still learning some of their new songs, and even some of the old songs (with the new band). Some of the keyboards were not as pronounced as they should have been (very guitar driven show), but overall the energy was amazing. It looked like Trent had shoulder pads on he was so big! Bummed about no encore, but they played NON-STOP for 90 minutes. Can't wait to see them in the fall!

Wow. Now that you mention it, I remember him falling from the stage during Piggy, but I thought it was planned. Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember one of the roadies freaking out and the guy next to me in the balcony shot out of his seat. Trent got right back into it, though, and the rest of the band didn't seem too phased.

maybe this explains the red spots that were on my CD booklet after Trent got done signing it. FUCK! I have trent's blood, thats awesome.

Sadly, I didn't know of that of course until I was inside, so I didn't bring mine. All in all. Nice guys, minus the fact that they didn't comprehend the crowd's need for water. There was this stoner behind me bad mouthing each and everyone of them, "can we get some agua muchacho", or something.

Glad to see everyone enjoyes the show as much as I did. I might have some pics, but I really doubt they're going to be any good. If so i'll be sure to post.

Some songs that stood out to me for some reason:

Pinion was a very cool opener and it worked well going into You Know What You Are which is just a kick ass song live or on tape. Sin was a pleasant suprise and one of my favoties on PHM. March of the Pigs sounded great and got the pit fired up. The Line Begins To Blur and Something I Can Never Have
were both awesome. The Hand That Feeds just gained ground on my With Teeth favorites as I thought the song was great live. Terrible Lie for some reason blew me away, I know it's been done many times before but it seemed special for some reason. The Collector is one of my least favorites on With Teeth but sounded better live. Closer version was kick ass.
Home was pretty mellow and the song I was the least familiar with. Burn was Great, I think the first time I've heard it live. Everyday Is Exactly The Same I thought was excellent and I wasnt a huge fan of No, You Don't but it was another song that blew me away for some reason. Suck is one of my favorites, nuff said. Gave Up another one of my faves that was a nice suprise. Hurt I thought was cool, it seemed the crowd was into it but I wasnt there Friday, so I dont have anything to compare it too. Wish.......at this point I'm remembering how much I love Broken. Head Like A Hole is a cool choice for an ending, it still rocks !

I ALMOST DIED FOR TRENT REZNOR LAST NIGHT. (Saturday)

So that was the rudest crowd I have ever been a part of. I was 3 people back from the barricade, and 5 songs into NIN's set the whole crowd for some reason swayed intensely to the right, and of course, being 5'1", -I- was the one who ended up flat on my face on the floor and was almost trampled. Holy shit. By the time I made it to my feet again, my shirt was totally unbuttoned (?), my hairclip was hanging at the ends of my hair, I was dry heaving, and in the process of getting out I lost a SHOE. What the fuck?!?!? I can now legitimately claim, however, that I have not only bitchslapped someone in the face but also kneed (spelling?) a man in the groin. I'm lucky if on a heavy clothing day I weigh a hundred pounds, and like I said, am 5'1". With that in mind, a tip for the two bouncer-sized cocks who showed up at the end of the Dresden Dolls set and tried it several times: When trying to get to the front of the pit, attempting to climb over small, lightweight girls in front of you is NOT an effective way to reach your goal. In dealing with people half your size, bear in mind that your man-parts are vulnerable. Also bear in mind that if you got there very late, the people who didn't are NOT going to like you trying to squish them very much. Terrible as this sounds, I have to say that I was seriously pissed at the people who got the little green after-show stickers, because I didn't. I quite literally almost DIED, and then my asthmatic ass spent all night long unable to inhale - and -I- don't deserve to get something signed by Trent? I've never been pissed about something like that after a show before, but a near-death experience I guess awakened new feelings in me. I will say, though, that through all of that, my eye makeup looked FABULOUS when I got back to the hotel.

Oh, and I did get my shoe back after the show, after spending the whole time after I lost it hopping up and down on one foot and using my boyfriend for balance, because after I found him he refused to let me put my bare foot on the floor. But I got my shoe back, and I was happy.

Gee. That sounds horrible.

I'd never hurt a girl at a show this emotional. Especially after seeing girls get groped countless times when crowd surfing (with a skirt, what do you expect though come on damnit wake up) as well as having a couple girls fly right on top of my head and topple onto the ground on the other side of the rai right before me. Horrible sight to see but that's a damn risk anyway. The worst however, was seeing a guy land directly on his neck and not get up after getting thrown forward. Noone caught him. It's already a hazard staying that far up. People are nutty sometimes.

Yea dude, for the first five songs, (pinion, You Know Who You Are?, Sin, March of the Pigs) I kinda felt like I was gonna die from heat stroke or oxygen depreivation, but I got through it. I decied I couldn't do two things at once. I could either stnad and screem the lyrics and watch the band, or I could mosh and just go crazy. Didn't have enough breath to do both. I kinda felt like I was in hell because of that lighting to . It was very cool. I wanna see what Trent comes up with for the fall tour.

That does sound bad. But, at only 5'1", if you have been to ANY sort of concert before, you should know that would have happend. That is why I get there early so i can get a good BALCONY seat, so I can sit back and enjoy the show.. well.. stand up and have 2 feet of space around me, and no one in front of me. I am only 5'5", so I know how rough it can be, and yes, people really don't care about what they might be doing to other people.

Also, I went out and waited for about an hour, and surely enough, trent and jeordie came out and took time to sign stuff. I even got a picture with Trent. I didn't have any stickers or whatever you were talking about.

Anyway, like I said, I feel bad for what happend to you.. but there were alternatives if you had made better choices for a better viewing experience.

This was my first NIN concert last night. Drove six hours, should've been four. I didn't care I've been waiting for this day for 12 yrs now, I mean common I did name my son after the man. I just chanced getting 2 tics from the fan presell since there was no hope for general sale. Oh My Fucking God!!!! It was the most phenomenal experience I'll ever have the privlage to have! With severe social anxiety I managed to stay in the pit about ten back with no panic attack! Luckly had guys on each side of my friend and I "trying to keep you girls up cause it's pretty rough behind us!" And i was all worried it'd be all assholes in the pit. i did have to bail to the balconey before I passed out from heat! I wailed away with Trent as loud as I wanted, no worries. The crowd was just so driven and Trent didn't just perform the music, he WAS the music (i'm not forgetting the others guys though either) What sucked....my digital pics are CRAP!!!!! most have comet trails either from me being moshed in the pit, or my unsteady hand from excitement. I got one good long shot and one shot just looks kinda cool with the trails. I took like five seconds of video before my batteries bit the dust!

oh and right after we waited to try and get a pic. no luck. then went behind the theater and waited a bit and got to meet the man himself!! so incredible. i got to hug him and say thank you, he smiled and hugged me back. it was really amazing

Oh why god couldn't I be with you!!!!!! I would kill for that chance! Anyways here are the four of about 150 that are really worth/semi worth a damn!

I had a hell of a time gettin two from the presale, then when I tried for more in the general sale I had me and two others on our own pcs along with me being on my cell at the same time and couldn't even grab two more?

Friend of mine and myself, went to an outlet, he bought what he needed for one night, +1 and i did the same, and we traded

Also, home was played both nights, yes. I don't remember them starting With Teeth the second night at any point.

I still think it was great seeing trent play the tamborine.

Man, what a great show. I sadly didn't get to meet anyone, but NIN rocked, and the pit wasn't as awful as I was expecting. I was afraid it'd get too rough for me to be able to stay in, because one of my ankles has been messed up for years now, but I stayed on the floor the whole time! Did anyone else catch TR mess up the lyrics during THTF? Also, he sounded like he was coughing or choking during some point during the beginning of the show. Some stupid chick kept yelling "I love you" during Hurt. Pissed me off-totally ruins the moment. Dresden Dolls were all right, but nothing to write home about. We drove six hours to get there, and couldn't find an empty cab in the area for shit. My husband brought out the camera during the search, and no one took it or anything, so that was cool. My friend did get her belt taken away though-it just had some square metal studs, but they took it.

I was on Jeordie's side, so when the show was over I noticed them loading up on the wing on that side. So after waiting in the long fucking line to get a T-shirt, we went outside, and security wasn't letting anybody down the side street where the buses were. I could see a barricade further down, and I knew that that's where the band would be coming out at, so I was pleading with the security guys to let me down the fucking public sidewalk, and all these people are walking past going, "Hey! Trent's down there signing shit!" and I'm just dying. I've been a big fan for sooo long. So I finally decide to give up on the security, and I run the entire block and scale a fence to get past them, and I finally get up to Trent, and I'm panting, and I'm one person away from him. I've got my Sharpie and my CD out, and I'm so relieved that I finally made it, and then he walks away. And I'm still fucking panting, and I'm holding my Sharpie, and he's walking away, and I just ran dehydrated and tired and on a bum ankle. I was so disappointed, I couldn't stop from crying out of frustration. I was already a little disappointed that I'd been talking to someone, and a drumstick bounced off me when I wasn't paying attention inside. So another missed opportunity. TR was out there for quite a while, so I'm not saying it was dick of him or anything. I just wish I wouldn't have wasted all that time with security. I really just wanted to say "Hi" and "Thanks for the great music," but I was a minute too late. So in short, it was a great evening, but I can't help but feel a little disappointment.

Oh, and if the nice couple in the crowd reads this-I was the girl in the purple shirt with my husband in the NIN shirt, and you bought us a beer. It was great to meet you, and I hope you had an awesome time!

That really sucks. I really think you just had a bad luck of the draw with the folks around you in the pit. I was in the pit on Friday and had two guys behind me who kept looking out for me asking me if I was okay.

I know before I left and was researchin routes and such I saw the lito on nin.com performance list. I knew if I got anything there it would be that. When I first got there I didn't want to spend that much. Second time, I didn't want it to get ruined so "I'll wait til the end of the show" Then suddenly while the Dolls were playin I decided "fuck it. They might run out, I'll go get it now" Had to roll it unfortunatly but I used my hairtye around it and had enough room to stick my arm in the hairtie to told on to it so I wouldn't lose it in the pit. It got just one little bend in the corner for the four and 1/2 songs I was in there so it worked well. Very glad I changed my mind when I did! Gettin that baby framed and mounted with my ticket stub this week!

I had no illusions going in that I was not going to be battered around. From LOTS of previous experience, I know what going into the pit at an NIN show entails. But this being the "Tour Journal" section, I shared my experience at the show, and it was that all the people behind me were much bigger dicks than at any of the shows I've been to in the past. And I really don't know about anybody else, but according to every NIN fan I know (myself included) the best viewing experience is the one that gets me as close as physically possible to Trent. That comes with consequences, and I knew that going in. I was simply telling what happened to ME last night at the show.

Yeah, like I said, that really sucks that the people that were around you were bad. Even if there were a few people around you that were dicks, seeing everything happen from above, I can just say that I was glad I was not down there. Seriously, I don't understsand why people feel the need to move up like 5 steps, when there isn't any room.

Anyway, as far as getting the complete experience, I don't think I need bruises and barely being able to breathe, as well as being dehydrated the entire time to get enjoyment out of it. More power to all the people who have that mindset though.

Anyway, I was lucky enough to go to the show, and I have to say that it was absolutely incredible. This was my first NIN show, and it completely met my (astoundingly high) expectations. The songs were great, the sound was pretty good, and the band seemed on. Jordie even moved! A lot! From what I've been hearing, I was expecting him to just stand around the whole time, but he was pretty cool this time around. All in all, the show absolutely blew me away. I get to see them again in San Diego. I can't wait.

crazy, i liked the setlist better on saturday than friday; but friday's crowd was way better in my opinion. especially during hurt; the crowd was more into it than on saturday. the sat crowd seemed out of it during hurt. the mosh collapsed more than it should have. i fell once on my knees holding onto another chick. oh well, pits will do that.
i also see my arm in two of the pics that are up, i had the hairtie around my pointer and middlefingers; so no doubt it was my godly arm

5/7/05 Chicago:

After scoping the situation the day before and realizing that we weren’t going to make some mad rush for the pit, we joined a bunch of folks in line about 5:30. We file inside and let everyone who is going to run- just run.

We take our place next to the soundboard again look like an island in a dense forest of chairs. If there were 2800 people in the Congress on 5/6, there were 3800 people in the venue tonight. It looked much more crowded, the aisles were full all the way back to the board, the pit was packed, where on 5/6 the back of the pit was still partially “breathable”
Even the rows of seating were more packed than the night before.

Once again the Dresden Dolls take the stage and I have to be honest, from seeing them the night before so close (about 3 pit “rows” out) and then seeing them tonight up in the seats- it definitely is a different experience. Although I believe their set was the same, from a distance you don’t get the details as well and their mix was phenomenal while standing in the pit- but flat and lifeless in the rest of the venue. “War Pigs” still brought the house down.

Tonight they got a heckler yelling “You Suck” to which Amanda says “Thank You” a few songs later the same guy yells out a “Fuck you” and Amanda says, “You want to fuck me?” Brian even chimed in, which seemed as if this had really pissed him off because on Friday he had not spoken a word! Prior to starting “Amsterdam” she says something to the effect of “I heard this story about Marilyn Manson that someone threw a bottle at him at a show and he said ‘I’m not going to play until someone beats the shit out of the motherfucker who threw that at me’ so we’re not going to play until someone *EDIT* HUGS *EDIT* the shit out of this guy” They continue their set and play an extended version of one of their songs that for their fans I’m sure was like winning the lottery, but for most of us it kind of dragged on and on. The crowd for the most part cheered and DD leave the stage.

Once again about 15 minutes between set change and it seemed as if it might have been even quicker tonight than last. With the house lights still up, you hear “Pinion” start to come in, most people are clueless at this point and think they are still hearing the pre-show music. I stand up and start yelling. My wife says, “What the Hell are you doing?” I said “Pinion is starting” to which the people around me start to catch on. The house lights drop and everyone seems to figure it out at that moment. Place goes absolutely fucking CRAZY. Trent steps on stage and launches into “You Know What You Are” and I thought the roof was going to come off.

The energy level in the venue tonight was significantly higher than last night, although the performance by Trent and co, was as balls out tonight as it was last. The mix was also higher tonight than last night. On Friday I could still hear my own voice above parts of the music, Saturday- not a chance in hell. The light show and sound were flawless tonight. I loved the “Burn” lighting in blue. Excellent! Once again Trent was feeding off the crowd and at one point said, “Goddamn it feels good to be back!” to which the crowd nearly exploded.

This show just started off kicking you in the nuts and wore you out for 10 straight songs (Pinion to Wish.) You then got a slight break with “Something I Can Never Have” even though I was singing this just as much as I was the previous 10 songs. The Crowd did a stellar job singing back to Trent with both “SICNH” and “Hurt” he even just played and let the crowd sing in parts.

I also kept saying “No Fuckin’ way, No Fuckin’ way” when Every Day is Exactly the Same” started to play. It was a very cool surprise in the setlist!

After the show was over and the masses started to file out, I went over to the Soundboard and shook the FOH engineers hand and told him that the sound on both nights was amazing and thanked him for his work. I didn’t want to take too much of his time so I didn’t catch his name, but he said he appreciated the comment and was glad we had a good time.

After the Show, it was meet back up with the group and figure out what we’re going to do about food. Some folks bailed on us but we got to have dinner with three of them. It was a nice way to end the weekend. All of us just re-living our 20-minute-old experience and other memories and stories!

Sorry I missed you Drunkpoet, And I had no idea Beavette was there, I would have liked to have said hello to you as well!

Overall 5/6 and 5/7 Comparison:
I cannot make a stance that “one night was better than another.” I had given my everything back on each night and both nights had sections of the performance or reasons for standing out in my mind as making the show special to me!
The energy on both nights from Trent and the band was better than I have ever seen and the performances were both tight, and amazing.
The sound was excellent on both nights (although slightly better on 5/7 in my opinion.) The lighting on both nights was equally good.
The Crowd was more intense on Saturday than Friday, but the Pit was just as brutal both nights from reports and experience.

When everyday is exactly the same came on I felt the exact same way. "Awe shit no they didn't" heh so I got that one recorded cus I hadn't seen them play that one at a show yet. But i guess I felt the same way when they played sin saturday after not playing it friday.

its half the reason most pics are of trent, its just easier to point towards the middle.

I was right in front a little to the right. That was the best show I've ever been too! Trent is so beautiful. I used a film camera at the show and I don't have a scanner so I took pictures of the pictures with my digital camera. LOL. As soon as I get my hands on a scanner I will post 'em. my saturday:
1. woke up @ 6am in columbus
2. drove 6.5 hrs to chitown, got in line at 11:30
3. met cool people in line
4. got into the theatre at 6pm with everyone else...

then the venue management got involved.

it was annoying that they basically opened the theatre doors & let everyone run down the aisles, trampling each other. they could just as easily have let 20 go at a time & not endangered people needlessly 90 minutes before the show even started.

worse than that, the security guys on my side (between trent & jeordie) didn't know how to properly get someone out from the barricade. i appreciate their efforts; they definitely worked hard at getting people safely out. but after seeing/hearing a friend that i met in line screaming in agony as the crowd pushes up against her pinned leg, i think 'people rescue' needs to be mandatory training for people who work the shows.

and as much as i hate to say it, there should have been less people on the floor. there was so little room & so much pressure that taking a full breath was impossible at the front. at least 5 people around me had to "tap out" & be sent over the rail so that they could breathe. before you rip me for being weak, i'll say that i went to 4 shows on the last tour, always on the floor (twice being on the barricade myself) & never saw anything like saturday.

ok, enough of that. wow- the show was incredible. i love the new album, and was thrilled to hear so much of it. no, you don't definitely stole the show for me. we made it crumble. looking forward to the fall.

Was Twiggy doing a headstand during one of the songs?

Does anyone have the official set list in the right order? I've seen a few on here and some have different songs and are in different orders.
I'll post some pics I took once I have them developed and scanned.

NIN Historian needs to check his facts. Dresden Dolls in fact told that Manson story but told the crowd they wouldn't play unless someone gave the fellow that was heckling them a nice big hug, and went on to say something to the effect of they loved him and deep down he was probably a nice guy (or something to that effect). And when they started to play said something of the effect of they hope that the guy wasn't too big (to the people, if any did, that gave him the aforementioned hug).

So, Mr. Scalper obviously gives part of his no-overhead ticket income to the Congress.

The final outcome?

1. I'm guessing Reznor et al. receives none of this revenue.

2. Mr. IRS probably doesn't see a dime of that untraceable cash, either.

3. The Congress very obviously violates about 200 fire codes. Did you see the aisles of that place? You couldn't get out in an emergency if you tried.

Personally, even with how badly I wanted to go I still wouldn't do that if I didn't have tickets. It takes earned money away from everyone legitimatly involved with the venue, not to mention Trent himself. None of us would have been there if he didn't work his ass off for it! The next door business and/or security were selling back door "tickets" for $60. You entered through a side door and went through some underground maze before ending up in the venue. There was no ticket stub involved. Beavette just posted info about in Friday's thread

The roommate and the other guy didn't really understand what the hell was going on until they were in the back of the venue. Nothing was explained to them other than "follow those guys," it was all very quick. By that point, Mr. Scalper guy already had the money and had split (after Crooked Security Guys took over).

Well if truely be that the case i can't blame em for not wanting to walk away from 175 dollars. I probably would've fallen for the same thing had I tried scalpers...good thing I didn't cause I was goin to to try and get my hubby in. He would've shot me since he's not a big NIN fan himself so it's better he scratched lottery tickets at the hotel for 3 n 1/2 hrs.
However I still think it should be against the law to rip off a living god!

i just posted in the 5/6 thread about my 'better' birthday-night show which we had tickets for.

i can start off my saturday tour journal saying we were offered a method of getting in to the show without a ticket. we were on the train on our way home when we got a call from 'someone' saying we should be good to go.

exhausted, my girlfriend and i decide we'll drive the hour back down in to chicago to see nin for free. since we paid over $120.oo per ticket for the previous nights show it seemed like a good way to 'mentally' split our ticket price in half.

when we got off the exit ramp and drove on to milwaukee ave. at about 530pm and the line from the congress was huuuuuuuuuuuge... insane... being that we didn't see a line the previous day we wondered if it was that long for friday or not.

we park and get to the congress shortly after 600pm when people start getting let in. we are in touch with our contact about getting in to the show and are told we should be getting a call in 10 minutes. an hour goes by and nothing. its now shortly after 7oopm and people in line are still funneling in...

for the sake of comparison it seemed pretty obvious that people with tickets were in line, and that the line was taking longer to get in than the previous nights show. whether or not there were more 'ticket-holding' people between the two nights or if the security checks were just taking longer was hard to see...

we got persistent and called and were given instructions to go two doors down to the 'congress wellness center' and ask for someone. we were told to tell this someone that someone else sent us. we were taken through a couple of crappy, under-construction-like rooms and eventually through some basement corridors. up the stairs we go and were in a hallway with the mix of people.

the place was buzzing. it initially seemed to be a bit busier that night.

since my girlfriend wanted to actually 'see' the show we decided to do the far left balcony. she stood on the arms of a chair for the show and i got stuck looking in between a group of five+ skinheads wearing military jackets with nin logos on their backs and german flags on their sleeves (no kidding)...

i just stood there with my hands in my pockets, listening and occasionally getting a glimpse of a bandmember. I enjoyed the music and the limited display, but i was nowhere near the level of the previous night.

what do i expect for a free show though, right?

i learned that for myself to enjoy the show, i gotta be on the floor and close. my girlfriend wants to watch the show and see everything like a movie. where i was screaming all the lyrics to all the songs the night before, i was just tapping my foot and slapping my thumb occasionally to the music the second night.

so now i know that as rough as the pit can get - and who knows if it could get worse than it was on friday, may 6 - thats where i need to be...

after the show we decided to try and stick around again. the show ended somewhere after 1030 and we did a lot of walking around the theatre, watching everyone pack the gear up and load it in to the semi trailers.

instead of waiting by the semi trailers like we did the previous night we decided to try to hang out on the other back corner of the building, where the dressing rooms were.

after walking back and forth between the busses and the dressing room side we had no luck. we split at about 100am when almost everything was gone except for one bus. two semis and three busses had left.

thats basically it...

i saw that somebody mentioned trent and jeordie coming out about an hour after the show... was this by the crowd in the back left of the theatre, behind all the busses and semi's?

Yes I stand corrected. The DD sound was bad up by the board that night (I saw them from the pit friday)
I think everyone gets the point. I also said "She said something like..........." So I knew I wouldn't have it perfect. But anyone who remembered it word for word- I'll give you a cookie the next time I see you!

It was more for The Dresden Dolls benefit than to point out a mistake on your behalf. There's a difference in the two reactions. They handled the moron very well and put on a remarkable show (with the exception of Coin-Operated Boy which might be the worst song ever, imho).

Opening for NIN is not something that usually goes over well, especially for something that is a complete departure from NIN. To me its the reason why crappy bands (i.e. Gravity Kills) pop up.

People are more comfortable with something that sounds similiar to what they like, than listen to something that is a departure from their usual taste. Not to say you have to like The Dresden Dolls but don't hate them for the fact they aren't NIN.

I have yet to see an opening band not get the short end of the stick, with the possible exception of PWEI because they played so damn loud people couldn't yell over them (for the record I love them)

Yup, that's the place. Paper all over the windows on the front, and loaded with Congress Security guys. They were mostly charging people $60 and up, though, supposedly. The dude at the front door told us "good luck" in trying to find tickets, after he'd just let some people in. alrighty so my story:

the missus at about 11am tells me to get in the shower cause she got a surprise for me for my b-day... i'm like what are we meeting trent as i asked? she laughed. fast forward a tad, we are driving towards the general direction of congress, she gets lost asks me where congress is, i ask her again jokingly if we are goign to meet the band, she doesnt say anything get to theater score parking (1pm-ish now) so she drags me past the tour busses, i am drooling all over myself by now. and she knocks on some window on the side. well, apparently someone that works for her is a tenant of congress theater. and they apparently got us permission to sit in on the sound check.... i jsut about shit my pants.... so we chatted there for a bit then i went out back into the alley adjacent to the left side entrances to the theater. nin shit all over the places.... i snapped some pictures of the boxes hahaha.

then we went inside down the the front and promptly got kicked out by the head roadie who didn't seem to care if we had permission or not, so then we were told to go up to the balcony. fast forward another 1.5hrs or so, we just sitting on the balcony, band members start coming in... they all seem to be about the same height so we kept trying to pick out trent. from afar that was alot of work. then i finally spotted trent... man i wanted to jump off the balcony hahaha.

fast forward a bit more now and jerome and i think aaron come out and start practicing. jerome is a fuckign mad man on drums. by that point we moved as close to the stage on the balcony that we could and jsut sitting and enjoying ourselves. well about 5-10mins into it the same roadie that kicked us out last time spots us, and gets us thrown out again, only this time it goes a bit worse. so we are escorted out by head security guy and are told that we are not getting back in tonight, and he does not care that we have tix. well we dont take him seriously and go in line.... well what do you know, he made it a point to wait for us and showed us to all his security goons and refused to let us in.

so i spend 3+hrs begging various people to be let in. i begged so many people that night i felt i was a freaking panhandler. the people that told us we could sit in on soundcheck sent a guy down to tell us that the best he could do was get us in for free as "vip guests" saturday night. i said i accepted the offer but i had no intention of giving up. so i went and sat in the back and saw the roadie that kicked us out. (he was the long haired tall foreigner dude that took the mike in first show and said he really wanted to give us all a show and to be patient).

i appologized to him profusely, told him we were invited, we didn't mean to d oanythign wrong and that we were not being allowed back in even though we had tickets. he was surprised to hear we had tix i guess cause he asked me to show it to him. so after i did he said he would get us back in. then DD went off stage and he went to do change over. and didn't come back. then nails come on and my heart just sinks. 4 of us are sitting out back in that little alley listening to the show. then one of the guys that i kept company for 20 mins during DD show went and begged some guy with a backstage pass on our behalf... and we got in!!! i almost fucking hugged em both. we blended in wit hthe crowd and spent the entire night looking over our shoulder.

saturday i took up the other guy on his offer to see the show and my friends and i were smuggled in same way as others that posted here (so much for vip guests huh). this was probably the coolest fuckign weekend of my life.... i really thought i was going to get to meet the man himself, but perhaps another time. i took some pics of the sound check of jerome and aaron, but i dunno how they will turn out (disposable camera) and i blocked flash to not disturb the guys. if they develop ok i will post those pics.....

so that was my weekend..... what a fucking blast....

I was on the balcony, and it definitely looked to me like there were way too many people up there. Ok, so the ones I took at the concert with a disposable camera, turned out quite crappy. I really wish I had brought my digital with me, but I was afraid I would not be allowed in with it if they found it. And.. that just couldn't happen. Ideally, I would've liked my SLR camera.. but no way in hell there. So, I present to you the few pictures that look decent. you get the idea atleast.

Awesome pics. Thanks. I too was worried about my digital camera so I just settled on my crap cell phone pics (http://lemonkey.textamerica.com), knowing others would probably get better pics anyway, which they have.

saturday. I felt bad, cuz someone right next to me wanted a picture, but the security person said that he wasn't going to come out the back, even though they brought out gates. I wouldn't have listened to the guy, but right after they left, he came out like, 2 minutes later.

Wow. Now that you mention it, I remember him falling from the stage during Piggy, but I thought it was planned. i saw that somebody mentioned trent and jeordie coming out about an hour after the show... was this by the crowd in the back left of the theatre, behind all the busses and semi's?

they set up a fence thing at the alley behind the congress by where they were loading. it was 10:38 when i took a picture with trent. he was out there for quite awhile and then went on the bus. security was holding people off at the milwaukee not letting them onto the street. there were only 40 people there tops.

Supposedly the Chicago lith was limited to 300 total, to be split into 150 each night. Percentage trampled in the pit must be pretty high.

That's what I keep sayin when I show it off here. "300 for the whole weekend between the two nights, it's hard tellin how many actually made it out of the building whole" So far I've only seen one on ebay....I should have bought the sweatshirt I wanted there too but I saw it in the NIN store before we left. We get back and now it's not listed anymore, the black with "heavy print", they have the t shirt.

I feel like going in more depth on how I got there..

I live in Sidney (45 min. away from Dayton). My friend and I drove all the way to Cleveland to pick up 3 other people (who by the way, weren’t informed of being in a rush to Chicago for the ticket I won off of Ebay). So there I am, in the very backseat, biting my nails, wondering if I’ll even be able to make it or not.

The drive started around 6 a.m., and things were BEYOND tight in time, we BARELY made it, of course I was the only one that benefited from getting there just in the amount of time, and to top that miracle off, after picking up the ticket which was a hassle due to traffic, I had been connected on the phone with a kid I met from the net some time ago thru the Jerome Dillon boards who was going to this show, so there he was, saving us (me) a spot in the front of the line – if anyone saw a kid with a red flannel on butt in line, that was me, and I’m sorry if you were pissed… I recall some looking at me weird, I don't feel sorry though. I hussled like a crazy muh fuh. But no security guards ended up saying a word to me, so I was good to go… all good things, after I caught my breathe from running around the block that is.

Next up, the lobby, on my way in, I was a little too shocked to be where I was to even think about going to pick up liths (I really should've) and I didn't want to risk being farther away from the doors when they were due to open. They opened, then the main doors which lead down the isles - I was on the left side initially, then I saw the right section moving so fast, so Wes (Jerome fan) and I charged that entry, and skidded down the isle and hopped over some chairs. I slammed against the rail and this larger girl with dreads. That was my mark, that's where I stayed.

So how many hours is that? 3 to CL and 6 or more to Chicago? I may or may not have you all beat, no biggy, but cool to see other Ohioans tripped it out there as well.

Go figure. It was a hell of a trip. In the end of it all, the one hour time change from OH to IL helped me so much - I’m beyond what I’d call blessed to be where I was that close to Trent up front.

Is Sidney on the north side of Dayton? My husband is from Dayton, and we go up there to see his parents all the time. They're in Huber Heights. For me on the northeast side of Cincy, Cleveland takes me 3 1/2 hrs. And god bless the one hour time change. We left here a little after noon, and were there by 4:30 Chicago time. We had some time to check into our hotel, grab something to eat, and change, so it was pretty relaxed. I had no desire to be in front, as I value my life! I hate the drive, though. It's so fucking boring.

Glad you made it, though! It was a great show. I posted my experience somewhere in here. Oh, and I'm not trying to compare drive times....I'm always looking for NIN fans around me.

I'd do most anything to get a video of this show. I was in attendance at the 5/7 show, and was so far over to the right (next to the stacks) that I didn't get a chance to see most of the lighting effects. =/ At least I was close to the stage, though.

Any way that you have of me obtaining the video, will work for me, so long as it's not something I have to be previously signed up for. I don't have a demonoid login, and can't find the new URL for EZ, so those are out for me. A yousendit would work for me, as suggested by someone else. But, I'm definitely willing to do as much of the work as I can do in getting this video. Not sure what works best for you, but you can just let me know. Or, if anyone else has already been able to obtain the video from demonoid or something, let me know if you might be able to hook me up. Again, willing to do almost anything.

If you're really into torrents the azureus client has a new plugin that lets you host your own torrents without needing a tracker. Once a few people grab it they can become the main seeders. I haven't checked it out yet myself.

Hey.....you're message is kinda true - but you could be nicer abaout it. A 100 lb 5'1" girl can survive if she gets to the stage and has some nice guys around her - and is prepared that the whole crowd is going to shift so hard that you have to prepare to not go down. I'm tall for a giel - 5'9" - but I weigh 115-120 lbs soaking wet, and I've been able to handle being at the stage. I will let shorter girls get in front of me (I can see over - why be a dick), and most people try to be nice. But if I see a guy trying to use his bulk to hurt a girl to get in front of her (like punching her, jabbing her in the neck with his elbow, kicking her legs from undert her), I will stab treat him like I do a rude stallion that's trying to mount a human - I'll stab his eyes with my elbows. And I'll tell the security that this fuckhead is purposfully hurting girls - they usually get pissed at that and will pull the guy out, possibly fucking him up first. at least that's what's happened on this tour. i think everyone - men and women - should act with at least a small amount of decorum. And please realize that your elbows can slam people accidentally in the face, so have some respect. I've hit people by accident, so I try to be careful.
That said, you have to be prepared for the giant crowd shifts. You can't stop them. and thisd is something I mentioned before - if you're really out of shape (and that has nothing to do with weight - I know people who "look" heavy who are so fit they could kick all our asses), then you will become dehydrated and have to be carried out. I've run for a zillion years - so I can sit in the heat for hours at a time. And if you're drinking or get too stoned - you won't be able to handel the heat either. It's just the laws of science. Alcohol + heat = major dehidration = you carried over the barrier.

But please people, try not to be dicks.

Ok, that sounded really girly, sorry. I am still in shock and awe from the show Saturday. I'm not sure if it was all the margaritas I drank at "El Cid" before the show, but I thought the sound & lights were awesome. We were able to grab really good seats before the show started, and decided we would just stay there the whole show (since we are all over 30 & female). I've had my share of pits in the past. Anyway when "Pinion" started, next thing I know me & my 2 friends were on our feet & headed to the floor. I wanted to dance! And dance I did! I did get really bummed out a few songs later when a pit started right next to me. I just wanted to dance - oh well. I still had a really, really good time.
I wanted to say sorry to anyone I may have burned with my cig (only had about 1 down there), or spilled my rum & coke on, or stepped on while I was being pushed. I have my share of NIN bruises & abrasions, and it was totally worth it!!
Thanks to everyone who shared their pictures from the show, I didn't bother taking a camera.

i took the "l" home, and the heckler was in the same car as me and my friends. i didn't know it was him at first, but then he recapped with his friends the incident. he wouldnt shut up about it either. he was so pissed. when people would get off the train he would say stuff like hey these guys like the dresden dolls what fags and things of that nature. it was quite amusing that half hour after the entire show, he was still talking about how much he hated the dolls because of what happened.

i was at the 5/7 show. it was awesome, only stayed up front for around 4 songs, then i was getting pummeled, so i moved back a little. i knew they weren't doing encores, so i snuck around the back of the theater during load in. me and my boyfriend thought it was promising when they put up barricades, then i saw jeordie walking out the back door. he was sweet enough to sign my boyfriend's litho and our cds. then trent came by and was kindly enough to sign our cds also and the litho (that bitch is getting serious framing.) we only had one picture left on our roll of film, so it's both of us crammed in with trent outside the congress. i was very pissed that security were not letting more people go down the road to the side of the theater. there were only around 30 of us back there. i thought that was shitty, we were telling people that they were signing, but security wasn't letting them walk down the street to get there. i told them to run the block and come up from the other end. if any of you i talked to are reading this, lemme know if you got anything signed.

With Teeth Live: Congress Theatre May 2005

i just realized that i still hadn't posted up my pics of the NIN show in chicago @ congress theatre i went to with my girlfriend on may 7th. it was a great show. here are some photos.

i think this is the best photo i have ever taken. this pic stayed on my desktop for around 2 months.

so as you guys probably know, the lights are awesome. but they do crazy things to small sony digital camera's. either way, it gave it a pretty cool effect.

not quite sure...this must have been one of my gf's photo's.

hurt.

my favorite song of that evening performed: home.

my girlfriend just couldn't quit talking about it after the show. she was an instant fan immediately following.
