Just got back from the show....fantastic night as always...

Venue was about 2/3's full...more than I expected in Seoul where there isn;t much of a music 'scene' to speak of. Crowd was super-hyped though which was reflected back in the energy from the stage and the lengthy set list. Aaron jumped in during HLAH (I think).

Sorry...just got back and a bit sketchy to say the least!

Wow, just got back from my first NIN show ever. They definitely rocked the house.

They played Dead Souls from the Crow soundtrack. Some of the notes were changed which made it sound kind of strange but still, the song was pretty cool.

Their Meet Your Master breakdown was fuckin' amazing. It went on for about 4 or 5 minutes. The breakdown was accompanied by an awesome video display that was in sync with the musical chaos.

When they busted into Only, the crowd erupted. Everyone was grooving and dancing to the awesome bass line.

The mosh pit went all psycho with the American soldiers and some other dudes, during the usual high energy NIN songs, including No, You Don't. By the way, their performance of No, You Don't was fuckin' amazing.

OH, one thing I really want to share with all of you is Trent's performance of Me, I'm Not. It's a totally new direction for him and it's amazing. He was in front of the screen with Alessandro on his right, and Aaron on his left. Behind each of them were these throbbing green video displays that were in sync with the music, like a visualization on your WINAMP or whatever. Anyways, Trent truly performed in a new way during this song. He was all hip-hop style, but done in a fresh and original NIN way. I really want to point out that his movements and everything were amazing during that song and the background video displays really added a lot to it. Fuckin' awesome performance.

Another thing is that the total concert seemed to be broken down into 3 or 4 phases. The first phase was just the band with the black stage. The second stage, they added lights and fog. The third phase the video screen came down and the concert turned into a kind of rave/electronica concert. The fourth phase was the screen coming back up.

After that the phases got all mixed up for the final songs.

Crap, I forgot to mention that NIN's performance of Survivalism stirred the crowd into a frenzy. I was for sure going insane during that song. Damn it rocks so much, especially live. So, the performance of Survivalism was definitely another highlight.

cashpiles also went to the show and gives the concert two thumbs up, although he has some bizarre comments to make about the concert at some later date.

there was no meet your master breakdown, i think he means Happiness in Slavery.

super long show, i was kinda surprised not to hear Capital G though.

aaron north stage diving was a total surprised, i happened to glance down then look up and see him flying towards me uh oh

it was funny, most of the people at the front were either japanese or anglo. except the korean guy who was basically hugging me during the last few songs....

oh yeah! they had a very impromtu spiral meet and greet! thanks to the japanese girls for asking for a spiral line in the first place!

Yeah, one of my favorite parts of the show was the Great Destroyer into Happiness in Slavery madness that was going on. The Seoul crowd was very small, but intense throughout. They really ate up Down In It, as well. Superb show. It reminded why DVDs and bootlegs can never do NIN's live show justice. It's great that they finally came here! I saw them last 7 years ago during the Fragility tour in 2000 in the States.

at the meet i asked TR what the plan was for the ret of the year and he said "NO TOURING" plus the remix album is finished and ready to go, as is the saul album, and hes finishing work on the new album

I was at the September 11, 2007 concert in Seoul, Korea.

All I can say is WOW.

I read some comments about people not seeing me there. Yeah, well, I wasn't very social at the concert and I didn't wear my cashpiles T-shirt. But, I was there with my Korean girlfriend. Yes, even people like me can get girlfriends.

First of all, I came to the concert first and foremost as a reporter: for the new edition of THE NINSIDE TRACK.

Inside the concert hall, I interviewed two fans from New Zealand. The woman seemed pleasant enough, dressed all in black. She mentioned that she had been to 3 previous NIN shows and that the sound quality of these NIN shows were always great. OK. I suppose that is important. Anyways, I remained objective. Her partner, a tallish hairy man with fair coloured hair who somewhat resembled a lumberjack, did not appear very friendly. Not once did he smile. This made interviewing him slightly more difficult as I continuously had to try and brighten his spirits between interview questions.

What he told me:
He had not PURCHASED OR HEARD THE LATEST NIN ALBUM: YEAR ZERO.
UNCLEAR ON THIS: He may not have even heard WITH TEETH.

Conclusion:
He has no right to call himself a Nine Inch Nails fan.

After the interviews, my girlfriend and I settled in to a nice area to be bashed around by a few hundred unmerciful Ninnions. The concert began, and straightaway Trent could not keep his eyes off of me. Throughout the concert he would make suggestive bodily movements and gyrations in my direction, all the while staring at me like a piece of tenderloin baby veal.

Why would he come all the way to Seoul, Korea? As a reporter, it is my job to make sense of the facts. What I have come up with is this:
Throughout the years, he has sought out those with the power to take away his social anxiety. The concert goers serve as vessels for his anxiety. He fills them up with it and in the process, takes their social energy in exchange. I was the final piece of his puzzle. Throughout the concert I could feel his anxieties seeping into my soul, while his aura became increasingly vibrant and colorful.

Anyways, the concert was excellent, even the odd "moon in the sky like a big pizza pie" spotlight that focused on Trent during Hurt.

this was the best show id been to in, uh.. 4 months.

thanks to the japanese girls for asking for a fan club entrance, we were let in early. and were lucky enough to get a meet and greet from the band. they all seemed to be in very good moods right before the show.. although, imo, they are always very friendly.

hyperpower --> TBOTE was great, this is my favourite opener. it also works well because the band comes on stage first then everyone can scream extra loud when trent rocks up to start the second song. heresy continued to build up a lot of energy in the crowd.

i love the songs that are played with the screen down. me, im not is good and the great destroyer is better. the lighting is excellent. complete with the screaming slave tag, nice addition. during this song its fun to watch Alessandro and aaron, who keep looking over at each other to see what the other is doing. it looks fun.

eraser and only played from behind the screens are better than i thought they would be. the lighting is dark and moody enough that you can stll see through the screen when they want you too, while tracing out some interesting patterns and colours. the stage is lit enough such that the screen is transparent for only, during the chorus when they jump, but darkened or filled with red most of the rest of the time. .. the screen goes up towards the end of the song.

so, why does trent have on a white shirt during only but put the sweaty green jacket back on when the song is over?

jeordie completely went off during down in it. the tie flailing everywhere.

aaron was in the crowd during head like a hole. was doing his usual manic running around on stage. then from the back of jeordie's side he ran up and dove towards me. the whole time im thinking.. dont land on my head. the man got some distance and he was way in the crowd until he got pulled back out.

wasnt expecting hurt to close the show after HLAH.. nice ending and the crowd was respectful and sang along. screen back down with green and blue floaty lights until the rest of the band joins in the song.

overall the crowd wasnt bad, despite getting the worst bruising at this show. the venue was set up with a t-bar/ break down the center of the barricade to stop too much shoving to the center. all the crowd surfers were americans.. i was told they all came from the army base, since the US has a huge one in the middle of seoul.

the venue staff did a pretty decent job. you can tell that they dont host events like this that often. the secutiry people were all in shirts and ties. i thought this was a respectful asian cultural thing- not exactly what i am used to seeing in canada/usa/australia.

retrospectively i should have bought more merch at this show.. darn exchange rate.
